That being said, the cake was very moist and I like how there isn't a ton of sugar. I also had a butter bread which was so so tasty -- I love bread and I'll definitely come back for this. The first 85°C outside of Taiwan... That's what my friend, Van D. said. I first heard that this shop in Irvine, California, is the original USA location when I read Ed L.'s review (Of Yelp Hawaii). Wow... I didn't know that! So...I HAD TO get something here... and my friends, Amy M. and Van D. encouraged me to purchase something. Haha! It's a team effort! We arrived after Craig's last softball game of the season - about 10pm. He suggested that we go to this mall (with free parking) since it was relatively near to Harvard Skate Park and had other snack options such as Meet Fresh and SomiSomi. Because of Ed L.'s review and confirmation from Van that this store was very special, I decided to go to 85°C even though it was a bit crowded. I was looking at the Coconut Custard Roll... then Craig pointed out the don tot (custard tart). Ack! So... I got both. This is a self-serve type of set up. Walk in, grab a tray, place a piece of paper on the tray, get some tongs, select your pastries, and place them on the tray. The long line of customers moved along quite quickly. When I got to the cashier, he packaged each item individually in a clear cellophane bag. I'm glad that I ate the don tot in the car... it was delicious and had a crisp crust. I genuinely love everything about this bakery except for how long it takes for drinks to come out. Sometimes when I go, it is extremely busy. The entire shopping mall is a mess on weekends, but even when it's not too crowded, the drinks take a long time to come out. My recommendations: If you like something sweet and creamy, go for the Sea Salt Jasmine. If you want something tropical and refreshing, get the King Grapefruit. Called up the bakery to let them know and the manager (a rather rude man!) kept shifting the blame on everyone but the bakery. I bought the wrong thing yesterday and threw away the receipt, as usual! This morning I realized I had bought the wrong thing. It had "meat" in it which I do not like. I took it back and the manager was kind enough to return it! Everything is very fresh and delicious here. The only thing I'd change, is how they display the description and price for each item. The cubbies/cases where each item is in, is kind of tall. The tag is on top of the case. It is easy to mistake the tag for the item that's above the tag, because those 2 are practically next to each other. Just be careful and double check what you are picking. The pastries here are INCREDIBLE. Lots of selection with incredible flavors. I found the setting of the store to be quite interesting as there were multiple different areas with a specific line that travels to each area. Fruit decoratives on cakes can be really sour. They discontinued my favourite bread - "Calamari Stick" (aka 'squid ink bread' filled with some mozarella and topped with garlic spread). There is a petition on Change.org to bring it back but it still needs about 150 more signatures @the time of this writing. The "Milk Flaky Pastry" (aka 'Sun Cake') isn't as good as it used to be. The flaky part should be light and like its name, flaky but it turns out to be hard and excessive compared to before when they didn't make them at the solar-powered Brea facility. Sadness. The center gooey part is still good though - just chip away about half of the pastry (get all the hard parts off) and it will be texturally be similar to what it used to be. Some of the bread with oilier toppings like ones with green onion oil, cheese, and/or hot dogs get a bit deflated/dense and soggy in areas. They use NFC options to pay but the Clover POS reader doesn't indicate Tap with a CC. read more

This is probably the 1st 85C I ever went to. I remember lines out the door when it first opened here in Diamond Jamboree (this was several years ago obviously). The lines have gotten better and if you're here at night like I usually am, no real wait anymore to get in and pick your items. My favorite here is the taro swirls. Sadly if you're here late at night, they're probably all sold out. I was lucky enough to get a few the other day even though it was late. They're just as good as I remembered them. I like this location more than the Irvine Spectrum one (bigger selection). It may not be the easiest location to get in and out of since it's always busy at Diamond Jamboree (parking can be a pain)...but if I'm already in this plaza, I always make it a point to stop by here to pick up some snacks for the next day. read more

I remember when this was one of the only bakery chains in the area. The long and exciting anticipation to get your bread with your own tray! Crazy how many new locations have popped up. It's really exciting being able to see 85 at every corner but the novelty of it has of course - been more popularized. During times of Covid - they limit how many parties can come in at a time. Some people can't read and they come in even though they aren't supposed to. Once you're in, there really isn't separation when you are choosing what to eat. It is nice that they bread are already packaged before they place it in the container. I do hope that they keep that system up after all of this. The line circles and it feels like at some points, there is no six feet separation. I guess the best solution is to have longer waiting times for people outside so that it doesn't get to crowded indoors. The bread that I always like is the chocolate chip with powdered sugar. It just feels like a pastry from a Studio Ghibli movie or something! I also like their chocolate with chocolate cream filling- it's very decadent. Everything else seems very standard to me and nothing that I need to drive a lot of miles for. I'll always like this location for the memories it had when 85 was just beginning to be a big thing. Parking hasn't been crazy recently but when all this passes - this plaza is a free for all. read more

Whats going on with you 85 degrees Diamond Jamboree. Like you cant even make my favorite drink (Hibiscus tea with Aloe Jelly) consistently anymore. Sometimes its fine. Sometimes its not sweet at all - like no sweetener. Sometimes watered down like not enough hibiscus. Twice the Aloe Jelly was spoiled. Like quality control is so bad. They got new trainees? High turnover? One time I had them make the drink 3X and they still couldn't get it right. Its sad. The 85 degrees at Irvine Spectrum makes the drinks perfect every time! And they are newer. Management pls send your staff to Irvine Spectrum and learn how to make the drinks right! And to customers dont even think about taking these drinks to go without trying first. We made that mistake again today and we got 3 hibiscus teas and not even sweet. Smh. 2 stars until they get their act together! read more

Any time I have someone visiting from out of town or even out of state and they DONT have an 85° Bakery there I will run here first and let them have the time of their life. Over the last 10 years of living in CA and going to 85° on a semi-consistent basis, nothing has changed and that's saying a lot. The quality of the breads and sweets are the same as day 1--light, not too sweet, not too greasy if you're getting the savory ones, the right amount of seasoning on all the breads and even meats too. You can easily grab just enough for a quick snack or grab extra to make them last for a couple of days, if you have the willpower of course. Sometimes if you're lucky and pick the right time, you can grab some of the more fresher bakes of the different breads they have there. Their cakes and slices of cakes are just as good. I will always prefer 85° cakes over most cakes I've had--be it from the regular grocery store or even a lot of the bakers I've had make cakes. I love sweets don't get me wrong but I've noticed my tastebuds prefer the more mild tastes when it comes to desserts and 85° achieves that. They even have some of their more popular milk teas bottled up for you to take home! The staff members are always kind, no matter if they're new or vets and it's clear that they try to work as fast as possible considering the amount of people that visit. The shop itself had gone through some changes over the years too, aesthetically anyway, but it still kept its flow. You walk in and grab a tray, then are met with a bunch of different breads to pickup and take yourself, and if you want the cakes you'll ask the staff member to grab either the slice or the whole cake. All in all, I don't think I'll ever get tired of 85°, exotically this locations. The other locations are good don't get me wrong, but there is a certain nostalgic feeling I get when visiting this location that just keeps me coming back no matter what city I live in. read more

My main gripe is the logistics of this place as it's hard to get around when it's packed with customers. Was in the area and decided to try this bakery. We ordered the garlic beard, taro bread, milk pudding bun, and the pull apart bread. All were really good but that garlic bread was WOW! Easily the best I've ever had. And the taro bun was mouth watering as well. Didn't try the coffee, but the sea salt jasmine tea is such a good cool concept! It's like a frothy salty milk that lays on top of the iced jasmine tea. Tastes better than it sounds I promise! Visited on a Tuesday around 3pm and there were no lines! We've gotten drinks and pastries from here a few times now. During a recent visit on a weekend evening there was a small crowd of people in the store and the measures they have in place to help with social distancing (having people wait at the door to be allowed in based on capacity, markers on the floor for people to distance while waiting to pay) were not particularly enforced. Everyone inside was wearing masks, but the large number of people in line and inside the store meant there wasn't much social distancing. In a less busy visit prior to this, we got drinks - the mango peach smoothie with konjac jelly and a tiger boba latte. The mango peach smoothie was flavorful with mostly mango and a bit of peach, and not overly sweet, and the konjac jelly are an interesting topping - the size is smaller than lychee and other typical jellies. The tiger boba latte tasted like lightly flavored milk even after shaking it up, probably not something we'd get again. I would get the mango peach smoothie again (I definitely prefer it to their peach green tea, which was alright but not the best in the area). We've also tried their chocolate nut cookies (moist and rich, delicious!), chocolate bun, matcha chocolate bun, and guava cheese pastry - all were tasty and ones we may get again. I'll continue to come here for pastries and the occasional drink, and take care to visit during less busy hours. read more
