We walked in at about 1PM on a Friday. There was nobody there. We should have walked out honestly. But we were just so hungry that we stayed. The cooked food section in the food looked old. Everything looked like it had not been changed in a minute. The meat was gritty and dissolved in the hot pot. The clams were room temperature. That had to be a health code violation. The sugar in the sauce section was hard as a rock. The sheet of paper over the grill is weird. I'd just steams the meat versus actually grilling it. The lunch menu price was decent. The place is quite nice and clean! They've put a lot of money towards new decor and lighting. The place is spacious so it's great for big parties. Each person gets 2 broths. I recommend the house/thai and the beef. Miso was decent too for a Viet place! Grill in the middle I believe you're supposed to leave the parchment paper on but we accidentally took it off. They have a good drink special going on with big cups. Depending on the drink it can be buy 2 or 3 get 1 free. Their selection of cooked foods is good. Mostly fried items and goi (Vietnamese salads). This place has been bookmarked for a while now. Finally made it to the OC. This is a ayce hot pot and BBQ place. Evening is self serve. What attracted us here was the razor clams we saw in a video. But that ended up being the worst part of the meal. There was so much sand it was inedible. They really need to work on cleaning their shellfish more thoroughly. We meat they served was also the cheapest you can find, very lean and no fat which equates to very tough when cooked in the hot pot. The only thing that really stood out was the soup base. We each got individual pots and could choose 2 soup bases. I got the #1 house special and #7 Viet sour style - both broths were strong in flavor. I could just go just for the soup base lol. My service favorite was the grass jelly basil dessert. So yummy and refreshing. They had a variety of meats ( beef and pork), veggies and others. For the BBQ side, they put wax paper over the grill so some reason. I originally thought it was to not have to change the grill.... But they did change the grill, so not sure that the theory is around the paper. We enjoyed the bbq swai fillets and the galbi. I didn't try any of the cooked food. Oh, they also have cooked snow crab legs. We saw many people go for the snow crabs. They also had some buy 1 get 1 free and buy 3 get 1 free drink deals. We only had 3 people so we didn't end of getting any drinks but we saw lot of people ordering. The drinks were big. The place is pretty big so it's good for large groups. Service was ok. I really wanted to like this place but for whatever reason the night we went was not good... When we arrived there wasn't anyone at the front so we walked inside and someone saw us and helped us get a table. Dinner time is grill + shabu, we had a toddler so he was free. We got up to get our food and they had sections of appetizers, cold dishes, raw seafood, raw meats, sauce and crab legs. We get to choose two different broths, I chose beef and miso. Crab legs were very good, fresh and warm! Here is where it went downhill... The appetizers were not being refilled during our dinner time, it was pretty full but because it's not monitored, many people left the lids off so the food got very dry and hard! I would try to wait for refills when the food went very low but they didn't refill anything. The sesame balls were the only thing I think got refilled because they were not super hard but kept in a separate compartment by itself. The meat was ok, very tough and chewy beef and only marinated meats were available. The marinated pork was better but only the first batch I got was tender, the second one my toddler couldn't chew and spit it out. The sauces were a bit messy, it was hard not to spill anything into each other! I saw someone ladle a dark sauce and it spilled into the other dark sauces! I think it was because the cough shield opening was too low and the sauces were tin far because I struggled to get sauce too. The butter might have mixed with something because it was sweet and tasted fishy. My dad really enjoyed the crab legs. My mom enjoyed the bulgogi beef and didn't mind the chewiness. I really like the bulgogi pork. Overall, I didn't think we got to enjoy the dinner, I think that day it was an off day perhaps. Unfortunately, we live pretty far so my chances of coming back is a bit slim. I would love to give it try again in the future if I can. The restroom was not clean, I'm glad it had toilet paper and soap at least but there was a lot of trash around the floor. read more

There was a hot bar with a few options like fried chicken, fried fish, and bunny shaped taro buns. The fried fish was soggy, the chicken was a bit dry, and it wasn't fresh. The food looked like it had been sitting there for awhile. The taro bun was extremely dry and hard to eat. The hot pot broth was alright, limited vegetable options as well. They use parchment paper on the grill for the meat, and change it out whenever there's too much burnt sauce on it. The meat had no grilled flavor and cooked unevenly. Then the bathroom is another story. It was awful in there. There were so many brown stains on the walls and doors, mold around the sink faucet, floor undone, and the sink was barely holding onto the wall. I enjoyed this spot more for their hot pot. They only offer half pho broth and Tom yum broth and both were very tasty. Come on the weekend for more hot food items. To be honest, the quality isn't top-tier, but for the price and the crowd-pleasing factor, it's definitely worth considering--especially for all the Vietnamese parents out there who are famously hard to impress. We went on Mother's Day and surprisingly didn't have to wait long--seated in about 5 minutes. There was a sugarcane drink special (buy 3, get 1 free) that totaled around $20, which felt like a great deal for what we got. As for the food, I appreciated the option to choose between BBQ and hot pot, or do both. The hot pot came with two broth options: pho and a lemongrass tom yum. I definitely preferred the tom yum--it had more flavor and depth. There were only two "traditional" shabu-shabu-style meat cuts, but enough to get by. For the BBQ side, most of the meats were thick and heavily marinated, cooked on foil-covered grills--very Vietnamese-style, which gave it some nostalgic charm. Service was attentive enough, nothing exceptional but no complaints either. All in all, I wouldn't necessarily suggest this place on my own, but I'd happily go back if someone else wanted to. They seated us right away but once the drinks were served they didn't come by again to see if we needed anything like refills or a new grill. I will start this saying just how Friendly and great the staff were. This is a grab your own food and cook it place. But the Staff were definitely very friendly and accommodating. I appreciate their smiles and attentiveness. My son and I went in and were surprisingly the only ones there. You can see that unfortunately the time we went wasn't busy or they don't have too many customers. The quality of the broth was great, and food was good. Definitely if more customers were there, I think things would be a bit fresher. Overall, a good experience that could have been better. But also, could have been far worse. read more

I so badly wanted to like this place because it's a shabu place that also has BBQ but unfortunately I wouldn't even call it BBQ. For "BBQ" they have you grill your food at the table on an aluminum plate that's wrapped in aluminum foil. No actual grill so you don't get that grill taste. The shabu broths were decent. They offer a Pho broth and a Tom Yum broth. The flavors enhance as you cook meat and veg in. The food on the buffet didn't look the most appetizing though. The restaurant was pretty empty for a Saturday night. Because of that I wasn't sure how long things had been on the buffet line since there wasn't much turn over. At least the staff was nice and the variety of options was available. They just really need to work on improving their quality. read more

This place is very unique in that they offer both BBQ and hot pot. While I enjoyed having both options, the food offerings were mediocre in quality. You don't get to choose your broth options. It just comes with pho and tom yum flavor in a split pot. I didn't care for any of the dipping sauces. What I loved most was the crown daisy and ong choy veggies offered. However, it's not really worth it for me to come back here for these. The floors were slippery from all of the grease that accumulated and not safe for walking. Overall, I'd recommend this place if you'd like both options to grill and hot pot at the same time. However, I personally wasn't a huge fan because of the lack of quality in the food so I won't be returning. read more

Came here for a late bday celebration for my mom. She loves seafood and my family loves grilled meat so this was the perfect combination. I thought the food here was pretty terrible, everything was bland and the quality wasn't that great. I ordered lemonade and they gave me the salted lemonade instead. We told the server that they gave us the wrong lemonade and the first server insisted it was correct and that's just how they make the lemonade here... It's too salty for normal lemonade. About 10 minutes later a different server came and asked about our drink. We told him it was too salty to be the normal lemonade. He brought us a sample of the normal lemonade and asked us if we tasted the difference and we did. It was way more sour and not salty at all. He apologized for the wrong drinks and offered to make us new ones. I actually ended up not liking the lemonade and opted for the thai tea instead. The thai tea was pretty standard, but a little too creamy for my taste. The marinated meats here are way better than the plain ones and there wasn't that much variety of meat either. Probably like 3 different types. The place is massive and it was quite empty. We came on a Thursday late morning for their weekday lunch which is now $21.99 (M-F 11-3pm). The table has 4 places for individual hot pot (induction heaters)...two of them at our table didn't work well. You grab all your meats, vegetables, and sauces from the a self-serve buffet. Even though it was lunch, they still had a lot of seafood options. They even had hot food options available, like salt/pepper blue crab. If you pay in cash you get a dollar off per person. Pros: love the Tom yum flavored shabu broth. You are served 2 types of broth divided into one bowl. Lots of good pre-marinade meats to bbq. The dipping sauces are more extensive here, if you like fish sauce and non traditional shabu sauces. The hot dishes like fried rice, and stir fried noodles, was good for pairing. Cons: not as much variety in sides for vegetables, as other shabu places. You cannot self serve water or beverages, which sometimes takes awhile. The walk way buffet area is very small, so it can get crowded quickly. Service was just okay. The grilled meat variety is huge and while the flavors lean towards more south east asian flavors (lemongrass or simple marinades) there are definitely other meats and seafood that also fit other type of flavors as well. I personally shabu even though the only broths you get are tom-yum and what I believe to be beef (it was very close to pho broth). We've host big family gatherings here a few times because there's never a wait even on Sunday afternoons. There's a variety of cooked Vietnamese dishes to eat right away and raw items to cook in your hot pot or grill. Everyone gets a 2 broth combo of pho and tom yum. The broths were actually really good and flavorful. Service was great! Everyone was so nice and accommodating of our big group but unfortunately food wasn't too good. All of the cooked food items were cold. There weren't any thin beef slices for the hot pot. There was only thin pork. I did enjoy the nice variety of noodle choices though. The buffet area was very narrow and cramped. Hard to get around people. The grills were not non-stick like at KBBQ. They were in fact especially sticky even with oil which made cooking hard. We also ordered sugar cane juice and they tasted watered down. Also one time when I was at the buffet, an uncle came out of the kitchen, cut in front of me and used the tongs to grab some food, transferred it to his hands, ate it, then walked back in the kitchen. Finally found a bbq and shabu style restaurant in SoCal, and I will definitely be coming back. To start off with a positive note, my family and I did the dinner buffet style for $27.99 per person. If you bring cash, they do give you a dollar off per person It was a Sunday around 6pm and there was still plenty of seating. We were given two soup bases with one being spicier than the other. I enjoyed the spicier soup base the most. As that is heating up, you'll head to the back where there are several selections to choose from. They have sauce bar with up to 20 selections. Then you'll find vegetables, raw meat for the hot pot, bbq meat for the grill, seafood, cooked chow mein, rice, tofu, etc and dessert area including a mango papaya salad. I was thrilled by how delicious the spicy pork belly was and kept getting it each time!! Things to note for my next visit and a warning to others: As a buffet style where customers come and go, I did notice a hair in the cooked crab. So I would still inspect my food just a double precaution. I did wait for the next batch to which the cooked crab tasted amazing. Another note is they offer a buy three get one free sugar cane deal. Just a warning, it's $7 per drink so you're paying $21 for three large drinks and a free one. Doesn't sound like a bad deal! But then you taste it, and it doesn't taste like sugar cane at all. I even mixed it to ensure the sweetness would be there but it was super watered down. I felt like I ordered water with a splash of sugar cane. Another note is that it's gonna be hard to track down a server bc it's not very evident who works there and who doesn't, but it's not a big issue. I would just raise my hand and wait for someone to come if anything. Overall, it's the only hot pot/bbq place in SoCal that I know of this moment. It's an okay place.
