This place is a real fraud. I once shorted my Prius when trying to jump start. He mentioned that the mother board is fried, and dealer would charge a huge amount and he tried to fix it in a way where only the car moved and all other electronics were stopped functioning, for which he charged around 2k. I recently took the same car and another mechanic fixed all these issues for an hour of labor. All he did was replace the fuse. Another time someone tried to steal the catalytic converter and cut a small piece, for which this place charged around 500$ but in less than a year recently the welding completely gave up and I had to completely redo the welding for 280$. Quality work is so bad and I feel cheated. At least this guy doesn't know how to work on Prius. read more

A-1 is Truly A-1 in auto repair. I had a grinding and shaking noise when I put the car in reverse. He checked it out and found out my motor mounts were bad, he found that my water pump was leaking and I had leaky valve cover gasket. I told him to fix it all and put new spark plugs in too. I thought it would take 2 or 3 days to get my car back. I dropped it off on Friday around 10:30 AM and got a call on Saturday, the next day, around 10:00 AM saying my car was ready. Amazing experience. I have found my new auto repair shop. Minh is extremely friendly, knowledgeable and sincere. I called him about a damaged engine cover that was dragging under my car. I thought the cover was totaled and would need a replacement. He told me to come in right away. He would remove the cover and order me a new one. When I arrived, he greeted me enthusiastically and got to work. He said there was no need to order a replacement. He repaired the cover and charged me for the bolts. I was in and out in 20 minutes. I went to this place coz my friend recommended this shop and its closed to work. went it for an estimate to replace CV axle.after putting my car on the lift, Minh quoted me 2 hrs for labor plus parts. OK fine schedule for a service done on a later date. on the day the service was to be performed they now charging me 3 hrs labor for the same work that they quoted me for only 2 hrs.. I used to trust Cliff. He used to personally test drive every car and tightly manage his workers when he was just a few stalls. He now has two shops and numerous rouge employees including Minh. You can never get ahold of Cliff any more. The quality and honesty have gone out the window. $1700 in work done with low quality. Broken parts left in the wrath of their mechanics. I'm worried his repair will not hold up or will cause irreversible damage. There is evidence of an oil leak now that never existed until he replaced the seals. Couldn't even get Cliff to return my call after multiple messages. The work he did is even incorrect on the Carfax upload. He was the only mechanic that recommended I replace the oil pump during my timing belt change. (Extra work not needed according to several Acura certified techs) He offered a "discount" at an extra $600. Give me a call Cliff and fix this. I gave you a 2nd chance after Minh told me to replace a brand new water pump on my Lexus (2 months old done at the dealership). You can still fix this! read more

Called in for a quote to fix the washer reservoir leaking issue, it should not be a big deal but a simple estimation. Got lectured by the owner on what you should call or not call. The owner asked me what should he do, replacing the whole system or what? I replied with "or can you repair it"? Because that is the only common sense you either replacing the whole thing or repair it. It is basically they want to charge $150 for inspection, otherwise, you are not intelligent enough to ask for the price quote of such, as it is so complicated that you as a customer don't know what question should be asking! If I have to give a point system out of all the 5 stars reviews I write, most of them gets about 4.6 to 4.8. For A1 Performance Auto Repair, I give them 5.0. They deserve it. Friendly, quick and top-notch service are the reasons behind it. Minh, the operations manager, is fluent in many languages to better assist you. It took them 25 minutes to get my car in, but that was because of all the phone calls, customer requests, and communication with the mechanics. After they brought my car in, it was a quick oil change. They pressurized the tires as a courtesy too. Note: They are extremely busy, so plan ahead. I took my car for the first time here this weekend to get an oil change he helped me right away and had the car done in an hour and half. The price way amazing. The only thing is normally when I get my oil changed my tires are rotated and filled with air. And that was not the case I guess. I thought that was a normal thing they did when the oil is changed. While the owner said he wanted another chance to show they could do a proper oil change, I called them and asked if I could come by for one after work as it's next to my office, and they said yes. When I got there, I wanted to spend five minutes checking that the oil brand they wanted to use was the right one for my sprinter, and he got angry with me, told me he wasn't going to change my oil any more, and thus wasted my time before all the other oil places closed for the night. I heard some noises from the front of my car whenever driving over a rough road. So, I called Minh and asked whether he could check my car for me. I wanted to go to A-1 because Minh and his team thoroughly checked my car and gave me a detailed explanation the last time I brought my car in for an oil change. Minh told me to come in the afternoon and when I brought my car in, Minh told his father, Andy, to check the control arm in my car right away. I didn't even have to repeat what I said over the phone. Within 20 minutes, Andy confirmed to me that the bushings in the control arms were bad on both sides and he even pointed them out and showed them to me with a flashlight. Minh gave me a quote and explained to me what should be done with a reasonable price. The service at A1 is consistently great and their recommendation is genuinely straight forward and thoughtful. They only recommend what needs to be done and don't try to sell things that aren't needed. Minh and Andy, thank you very much for your excellent and honest service. Good mechanics and know what they're doing. Heads up, their labor rate is kind of high. Had to be on the road fast so I was in an emergency situation and needed spark plugs and ignition coils changed on my BMW. I would have done the job myself but needed to be on the road the next day and didn't want to wait for parts. Ended up paying over $800 bucks but spark plugs and coils for my car shouldn't cost more than $250 (and that's using really expensive parts) They definitely know what they're doing and work fast but I don't think a spark plug/ ignition coil job should cost $800+. I've been coming to these guys for about 15 years. Cliff used to be in the front office and working on the cars all the time, and now it is mostly Minh. The work they do is consistently good, prices are good for the area. Their estimate for how long services will take are usually correct, though there are times they are quicker or slower, but that's to be expected over a 15 year timespan. Beyond servicing my cars (5 of them over the years from a Saturn, to multiple Hondas and now a BMW), they also drop me off at work (I work close by) and sometimes pick me up. No fancy extras here (I'm sure it keeps their overhead low). My only minor complaint is that they aren't the best at calling me back after the work is complete, as I often have to check in with them to find out that the work is completed. I have brought two cars to them to check out before I purchased. Being new the city I had no mechanical friends to rely on when finding a car. Thanks to Yelp I was able to find A-1 Performance. I originally brought them a used Subaru (2006 Impreza Outback Sport) that was listed as in "good" condition. I know when I drove it over it had issues; but once A-1 did their 86 point inspection on it they listed EVERYTHING wrong with it. A bad mechanic might list a few things to insure their customers come back. The guy working the front desk, was straight up honest. DO NOT BUY THIS CAR. If he told me a price point under 1k for repairs I would of tossed my card at him. Real honest company. I returned today and had another car checked up on. Same thing with the inspection and they listed everything. Luckily this car was in ALOT better shape. They did not try to sell me on anything and just listed the items.. I know I will be back for any and all services for this car at A-1. You have earned yourself a lifetime customer... or for as long as I live in this area at least. Note: On one of my visits there I also got to witness A-1's staff deal with a complicated customer. Explaining manufactures warranties and ensuring the customer knew WHAT was covered and WHAT was not covered PRIOR to working on the car was key. It wasn't a hook and bait like I have seen many times over... "We did x, y, and z. But only X and Y is covered and you have to pay for Z. And the work is already done". I had to give some serious thought about updating this review. Although I do feel very bad about the experience that Jakob had with Cliff - I have to say that Cliff has always been very honest and did his best to help me with all my automotive repairs in the years that I have been bring my cars to him for repair. Cliff's rates are less than what you would pay in taking your car to be repaired at the dealership. He stands by his work - so if you bring your car into his shop, and it's not fixed to your satisfaction, he will do his best. I'll continue to bring my car to Cliff for repairs. As a woman, I find him easy to talk with and he lets me know what needs to be done to keep my car running. I was recently in there for an oil change and asked him if it was time for a tune up - he promptly went to his computer and said to me - "No, we did that in March - at the rate you're going, you won't need service until November." Again, sorry Jakob, for your experience and I do understand your frustration. I've had a lot of good experiences with Cliff - and I trust that it will continue to be that way. read more

In terms of service, I would give this shop 2 stars. I took my car in for an oil change and asked Cliff to look at my brakes. He was very nice when I was there, the only problem was that he never called me for updates on the car. I took my car in at around 9am and my car wasn't ready until about 3 or 4pm. During this time, I didn't get a call once. I was the one that had to call a few times to find out how much longer the car was going to take. Every time I would call, the wait would move farther and farther back. Now for what's actually important. How was the work on my car? Well i got all four brakes changed here. I was happy because this place has such good ratings on yelp and the price was so cheap! I thought I was getting a great deal! Well I was wrong. My brakes are only a few thousand miles old, and I am scared to drive my car because I don't think it would stop if I had to really slam on them. A few times, I've had to stop the brakes hard (not slam, just kinda hard) and my brakes have actually smoked! MULTIPLE TIMES. Now i'm going to have to spend a few hundred more dollars to get my brakes inspected somewhere else because i'm scared of driving my car now! read more

AMAZING customer service from Minh. I stopped by with my dad because my damn Honda (1999) Accord decided to stop working on me. Thank god Minh can speak a gazillion languages (Cantonese, Mandarin, Vietnamese, and English) and was able to communicate with my crazy pops. Cliff inspected my car quickly and found out that not only the transmission was dead but my brakes were pretty much donezo as well. I ended up getting a brand new transmission, brakes, rotors and a oil change and it took no more than a few days to complete. I am super satisfied with the results and cost since they used all brand new parts from the dealership, NOT used or generic parts (although I think they do offer that as well). Other places were quoting me the same cost for generic/used parts. So hell nahhh to that! It's been about 3 months or so since I've had my car fixed and I can happily say that my car is running smoothly with no issues! One of the key things you want when your car gets older is a trusted mechanic and Cliff and his team are honest mechanics that I can trust. Well, I think I've been going to A1 for almost 10 years! I have had my Mini for 13 years and it's running well because Cliff is taking care of it. I will say that German cars are pricey to maintain so I'm that Cliff keeps me from going bankrupt! He takes care of all the luxury cars and sports cars including Mini coopers; BMW; Mercedes. The thing was that they were small but they just expanded so they can take more business and the parking is way better! As a quick example, I recently had to tow my car to his place because the fuel pump went out suddenly. Well, of course he fixed it but he noticed that my power steering was sounding a bit off and mentioned that I was under warranty. So I took it to the dealer who confirmed it was under warranty and it just saved me at least $800!! In the end; two thumbs up and I recommend. Wouldn't go anywhere else.n read more

My boyfriend's power steering belt broke coming back from lunch and needed immediate assistance. He saw this local shop and they helped him right away. They were able to locate the problem within 5 minutes and said they could get the job done within a few hours. We were also due for an oil change, so they changed that for us as well. I wish I could give 10 stars for the great work that was done by A1 Performance. Minh helped me every single time, his service is awesome and the mechanics are great. They have helped me get my 14 Subaru Forester that's close to 95k working like new. No matter it's a major maintenance or something not feeling perfect, they always get the job done perfectly with a fair price. Minh always spends the time to answer all my questions and provide professional recommendations. I use to keep my car only to the dealer for the piece of mind, but god knows how much extra money I have paid to the dealer.
