This is a review that I should've written a few months ago but the staff there deserves this so I'm writing it now. They are deserving of there name bec they go above and beyond their duties. They were very accommodating and got me very good rates on my storage. When I had to downsize they were very honest on how much storage space I really needed. They were also very respectful of your things and kept the whole area clean. You would always find the manager sweeping all the time! I would go nowhere else if I needed storage again. read more

They SOLD my property! I have been using A1 for my storage needs for about 5 years, now. I went into the office to pay my bill in cash and the girl told me that my property had been sold at auction three days ago! They had never sent any notification, but did manage to send out a current invoice. The invoice had NO mention that my property was up for auction, nor did the girl that I spoke with just one week prior to them selling my unit, ever mention it to me! The girl told me that maybe I could "buy whatever stuff I wanted back from the buyer." What? I left a message with their district manager. She returned my call the next day. She had no reasonable explanation for what happened. She stuttered and could not say anything except that they were desperately trying to get a hold of the buyer. The buyer now has all of my family's medical records, account numbers, among other important information. What is most distressing to me is that all of my daughter's baby keepsakes, family photos, my childhood books... gone. There was nothing of any real value to the buyer in there. It was all sentimental and I am unable to get it back. Do not use this facility! read more

I have - for the better or worse - been renting at or involved somehow at A-1 almost since they opened. By the worse, I don't mean the facilities or service but the time I have been there is and will always be associated with some of the worst experiences of my life: first, the loss of mi corazon, mi madre Rosita after losing finally her long and painful battle with cervical cancer and second, the rancorous battles and trench warfare and disastrous aftermath of a bitter, rancorous divorce. I share these dark experiences with you not to elicit your sympathy but only to illustrate how significant this place and these wonderful young men have become in my life. Not only significant but essential, like an extended family or home - a refuge in times of escape or when I just needed a place to chill or distract myself for a few hours or whole day even sometimes. My association with A-1 began through my parents, who rented a large unit to store their various collectibles and the nostalgic remains of their lives spent raising six children - so basically, A LOT of stuff. My first experiences there were the casual times I went down to help them sort, organize, catalog and supposedly cull some of the stuff to ultimately wean themselves from the need to rent additional storage outside the home. This, of course, never worked....and we always left just a little MORE disorganized and with little to take away. But I still smile now when I think of those beautiful moments when we were together as a family again, and marvel at the power of the tangible objects before us to evoke and revive a lifetime of memories, to resuscitate the ghosts of our memories. Later, as mom became sicker and sicker, I found myself going there on purpose, with the specific intent of trying desperately to hold on, to not let go or lose anything, fearing that each forgotten moment would take her farther and farther away from me and out of my reach. Throughout all of this, the boys - and by boys I mean men ("the boys" is just what I call them), specifically JP and over the past three or four years now James - have never shied away from inquiring about the status of things, bleak as it was, and never hesitated to offer their compassion and support and even on a number of occasions an actual shoulder to cry on. Furthermore, on many occasions they've actually helped me through crises, emergencies and to navigate the truly dire straits and to somehow, some way manage to hang on, push ahead and even sometimes laugh or smile, though I was actually crying my eyes out!! Or later, in the midst of the swirling events of my bitter divorce - the specifics of which I will spare you! - to calm me down and restore my center of placidity and calm me from the torrents of a seething anger and hurt and pain. My point is that the thing which truly sets A-1 apart from ANY other storage facility is that the place is run by two men who have a heart and a genuine sense of concern, interest, compassion for their clients, who are not just clients to them or tenants or numbers or dollars, but people, REAL people....people with REAL problems....and this compassion and concern fires their passion for what they do. Sure, the facility is in my opinion - and believe me, I've seen first-hand and observed second-hand or heard from others second-hand about pretty much every other rental facility within at least a 15 -20 mile radius! - certainly one of if not THE cleanest, best-kept rental facilities on the Peninsula and indeed the greater Bay Area as a whole. And to be certain, their prices ARE comparable and competitive with virtually any other of their competitors. Rate hikes are infrequent and minimal , and when necessary are assessed much, much less aggressively than they are at other places, particularly the big box stores. The facilities at A-1 Storage are secure and safe and modern. And their access hours fairly extensive and reasonable. But sometimes, it is the intangibles about something or someone that make it distinct and make it stand above the pack. And to me....and perhaps you'll see for yourself some time as well - A-1 Self Storage and the gentlemen who keep the facility running possess all of these qualities in abundance. I have rented units from A-1 Storage in Belmont, CA, for 2.5 years - I moved out of the area and chose to continue storing at this location due to the excellent service, cleanliness and pricing. It far surpasses any other storage companies I have used in the past. The pleasant temperature and music playing add to the comfort when it is necessary to add or remove items. Monthly statements are received as well as once, when I unintentionally missed the payment due date, received a very nice, courteous reminder so that I would not incur a late penalty. The carts are locked because customers abused the use and locked them in their units leaving others without use of them. A-1's system is great - The office staff is extremely accommodating - You may contact them during business hours and they will reserve a cart for you - They have gone out of their way to go the extra mile in all circumstances. Had some stuff in storage for a couple months. I liked that the place was newer and much cleaner than other places I visited. Front desk staff was always helpful and I felt like my stuff was safe because of all the cameras everywhere. Only small gripe was the big elevator would get busy on weekends, so you had to wait a bit. Check their website for first month free deal. read more

Recently I rented a storage unit and was taught how to do the lock, however, the instructions escaped my memory when it came time to do this on my own. I went to the office where James, an employee, was working. I let him know I was having difficulty with my lock and he produced a pretend lock and walked me through the necessary steps. I went back up to the 4th floor where my unit's located and tried again to no avail. I went back to the office and told James his lesson didn't work for me. He told me this was not a problem and he'd be happy to show me how. He locked his office door and up we went together. Once at my storage unit he was dismayed to learn I'd somehow broken the lock on my unit and it remained opened since my last visit. He hemmed and hawed, pushed and pulled my lock to no avail. He said he wished he had a pair of pliers and it just so happened I had a pair on my cart! With a few twists and turns, James finally opened the broken lock and lifted the gate on my storage unit. What should have been an extremely frustrating and time-consuming ordeal for James was instead one of patience. Not only did James continue working with the lock I'd inadvertently broken, he did so with a smile. Not only do I recommend this particular location for the security of one's precious belongings, I highly recommend patrons seek James for all their A-1 needs. We picked a storage place based on 1) safety, 2) cleanliness, 3) accessibility. A-1 Storage in Belmont fit all three. The storage rooms are concrete with metal doors. The rooms are clean and dry and spacious. There are elevators to help move things in or out, and you can drop by during the day to get what you need. You can even borrow push carts for free to load stuff on your car! Fantastic experience... we used it for 10 months to store our apartment while on an extended trip. I HIGHLY recommend this storage facility. The facility is kept very clean and the temperature is nicely regulated for the units. I have also always felt safe while at my unit. What sets this facility apart from any other is the PHENOMENAL customer service provided by JP and Antonio. They are professional, friendly and extremely helpful. These two go out of their way to make sure all needs are met and they build a relationship with the customer as well. After 96 months of being at this facility it was hard to leave simply because of how nice JP and Antonio are. (I vacated my unit ONLY due to moving and downsizing). I recently had to rent a storage locker in a bit of a pinch when I had to move out unexpectedly from my apartment. After conducting a bit of research around the area for possible options, I narrowed my list down to the top 3 likely candidates and went out to visit each on-site. I won't mention the specific names of the first two places I visited, out of respect and professional courtesy, but needless to say I was disappointed and feeling particularly anxious about what I would find at the third and the impending prospects of personal doom and gloom if I could not find a place for my stuff. And soon! How refreshing it was, then, when I arrived at A-1 Self Storage in Belmont and found two friendly, courteous and PROFESSIONAL employees, JP and James, who went out of their way to assist me in my time of dire need and help alleviate the stress I was feeling from the whole experience. Not only did they empathize with my personal situation and pressing need, they showed me around the place until I found a unit that was perfect in size and location and which I could afford. They walked me through the rental process and paperwork with ease and I was on my way and ready for the truly hard part: the move itself!! Not to worry they assured me. One or both of them would be available as I moved in if needed, and they explained how easy it would be for me to secure a dolly/cart after the office closed for the day if I happened to be moving later in the day. Boy, was that cart helpful! Pricewise, A-1 easily competes and compares well with the other facilities I researched, particularly when you factor in the human element on-site. Other places I visited either didn't seem to care about my situation or value my business. Or they simply weren't really available to help me with questions and showing me around. Facility-wise, A-1 is clean, well-maintained, well-lighted, convenient, and secure. All high marks in my book. It is obvious from the conditions of the place and the way they treat their customers AND potential customers that these two gentleman enjoy their jobs and care about the customers they represent and the facility they so rigorously maintain. I would recommend A-1 in Belmont to anyone without reservations - whether in "crisis mode" as I was or simply looking for additional space for their stuff. Now that I've solved my housing dilemma, I still think I'll keep a unit here, especially once it was explained how easily I could downsize and switch units if necessary to maintain economic feasability.
