I had a craving for a root beer float because I had not had one in decades. I happened to be passing by this A&W restaurant and I thought I would drive u. I press the button and place my order for a large Made Fresh Root Beer Float ($5.42) and some Onion Rings ($4). Everything was served up fast to my car. The root beer float was HUGE and SATISFYING. The onion rings were piping hot CRUNCHY on the outside and JUICY on the inside. For a total of $9.78 after tax it was a good experience and reminded me of my younger days. read more

I've been wanting to give this location a try for the longest time, and I finally pulled the plug and went! It's an old fashioned A&W, sort of like sonic style, and the service was extremely respectful and uplifting! The root beer floats here are definitely my favorite, and it's nice to know that they make the cheese curds on demand, and don't have them pre-fried like many other stores. I was really sad when I learned that this location was closing but then they decided to stay open for business and I was super excited. Got a bacon cheese burger for the first time and it was good but the hamburger patty could have been warmer. The bacon on the burger is what truly is the winner. Fries were hot. This place doesn't get near the recognition it deserves. It is a true hidden gem of Farmington! Awesome burgers and onion rings along with the world's best root beer floats brought hot and fresh to your car. What more could you ask for?? Perfect place to take your Jeep in the summer with the top off. I've never had a bad experience there and the service is some of the best I've ever experienced. They are incredibly nice, kind and prompt. Burger places around Farmington come and go, many of them are crazy expensive. My family and I pulled up and parked near the front entrance. We waited for someone to come out , no one did, no biggie, I went inside. A woman standing by the door asked what I wanted to order and immediately handed me a credit card reader and told me to "do it" , "it" was a list of tip amounts I had to choose before I could even order our food! I always give generous tips , but this definitely felt like I wasn't given a choice. I don't like this practice , won't be back. read more

As longtime residents of Farmington Hills, we are so happy to have our beloved A&W open and we welcome the new owners to the community. The food was fresh and delicious. The owner was extremely friendly and clearly has A&W root beer running through his veins. BIG BONUS: The past owners are still present and offering their years of knowledge for the new guys. It is great to see that they didn't just sell their establishment and leave. Instead they care enough to offer assistance toward the success under new ownership. Now, there was a price increase on the menu. There are also a few new items (mushroom burger, mini corn dogs and chicken sliders). We feel that when the food is fresh, hot and tasty the cost increase is worth it. Plus, you cannot beat root beer as good as house made!!! read more

We love A&W on Grand River in Farmington Hills. We always get the coney dog, no onions, no mustard, and the fried onion rings are the best. Can't go wrong with this combo. We miss the frosty Mugs of Root-beer but we understand because of Covid the paper cups have to be used. The A&W Coney Dogs are better than any Coney Island around here. In responds to Bruce's review. If you look at the menu #8 Footlong Combo the price is $7.64 he added a Better the Combo onion rings so add .60 cents, than he added the Root-beer float that is another $1.20 the total cost is $9.44 and than 6% sales tax (yes we pay tax on restaurant food in Michigan) SO THE GRAND TOTAL IS $10.00. The owners did not rip you off. It was very nice of you to leave a 30% tip. read more

I was in the area and thought I would try this location but I will NEVER go back because I just ordered a foot long coney dog with a root beer float and it was over $10.00 tipped $3.00 but shouldn't have. If I was to go back there, I will refuse to pay anything more than the prices listed and there will Not be a tip. I really felt ripped off. This A&W location does everything right. Old fashioned ordering board with order and tray pick up buttons - check. Car hop delivering your meal on a tray that goes on your car window - check. A&W root beer in glass mugs if you eat in your car - check. Delicious A&W Papa Burgers, onion rings, cheese curds and amazing root beer - check. I took my niece and nephews here a couple weeks ago. This is a traditional location where you order using the intercom and the server brings the food out to the car. There is a nice selection of items, including foot longs, burgers, and chick tenders, fries, and my favorite cheese curds. The service is friendly and prompt and the food is just how I remembered it: yummy. One note on the food: I do not recommend ordering the chicken chunks; just blah. I love this place. I remember my mom taking me there so many years ago. The burgers are awesome, the onion rings are delicious and the wings are scrumptious. I love them and want them all the time! Nothing better then the frosty root beer. I'm not happy though that they are closed this year. I hope the owners are doing good. Old school A&W with car hops and window trays. I have been going to this place since I was kid and I have only had the floats and french fries. Honestly, I don't see the point in ordering anything else. If you choose to dine at the restaurant,, they serve the floats in a glass mug, which pushes the experience over the top for me. Pulled up to A&W late Sunday about 10 minuets before closing. The employees treated me very well and did not act like my last second order was a nuisance to them. I cannot say that about every restaurant so that is why I mentioned it. I ordered 2 Double Cheeseburgers, Fries, Chicken Wings, Chili Cheese Fries, Fish Sandwich and of course root beer for my family. The food was hot and prepared perfectly. The price was very good ($31). Quality was very good. As for the taste, the Double Cheeseburger and Fries were one of the better ones I have had in the last year. Much better than McDonald's, Burger King, Wendy's. The Fish sandwich was not very good. McDonald's Double Fish is still king of the fish sandwich. The Chicken Wings were ok. Slightly spicy which I like, but still not as good as most Coney Islands. If you get the Chilli Cheese Fries, get slice cheese, the "squeeze/cheese wiz" cheese is not good. read more
