I got here on a Friday at 330 in the afternoon. My second time here, it gets busy, there's a line but it moves fast. So far I've tried the pap burger and the chicken fingers, both were a 10/10. Urghhhh! My husband and I bought regular root beer floats at 824p. Here it is 1115p and I'm lying here sweating profusely with my tongue hanging out of my mouth. I think I got food poisoning! My stomach is clenched and sour. Gas is taking up real estate in my lower intestines and my head hurts like my ponytail is too tight. PLEASE.. this place needs to be torn down. I don't think its even safe for the employees to work there. The ceiling is coming down, its bowed. Calling the fire dept in the morn i think for the workers safety.. For many years I've stopped here for a burger and a root beer float before heading home whenever I've gone camping in Angeles Oaks or Big Bear. This place has not changed much. I arrived at A&W at about 5:30 Pm on a Sunday evening. The food took at least 30 minutes to be served. Meanwhile in that 30 minutes, of course I started noticing how disgusting and dirty it was there. We thought that maybe it was just busy, and they didn't have time to clean. But why would the window sills be caked in dust and dirt? How could they explain what looked like a possible dead cockroach in the corner? We stupidly decided to just wait for our food. Why you ask? Because I had a very long day and my husband and I were starving...BIG MISTAKE!!! When we finally got our food, the hamburger was like rubber, the cheese curds tasted like they were microwaved , my husband's fries tasted cold, the root beer was flat. Definitely not worth the wait. This place sucks. I always have to wait 30mins or more in the drive thru and theres never more than 2cars in front of me. It's a shame because the food is decent but if you're trying to get somewhere quickly do NOT go here. Also the staff is very rude and doesn't acknowledge you until you say something at the speaker. Wow so much hate for this A&W! As others have mentioned, you only end up here if you're driving back from the snow, the mountains, or a retreat of some kind. For us, we noticed it on the way up to Forest Falls (super convenient and noticeable) and made a point to stop by after before heading back to the grind. It's really small and feels even smaller because of the low ceilings. The old appearance of (pretty much) everything inside reinforces the less-than welcoming feeling, but you know what, it is what it is. The root beer floats were solid. Most of us drank root beer or ice cream or a combination of the two, not venturing out to the actual food on the menu, maybe to our benefit (based on these reviews). Did you know you can get free refills of your root beer? And yes, a la one of the pictures uploaded to Yelp, they have root beer on tap! Ridiculous, but kind of loved it too. Also not a fan of the outdoor bathroom (you technically need a key) -- both because it's outdoors and because it's pretty dirty. The service was fine when we were there--nothing amazing to point out, but it wasn't anything out of the ordinary. Considering 10-15 of us showed up at once and just ordered a bunch of stuff, they were pretty prompt and helpful. If we're out driving through this area again, may end up here again... but by no means would I recommend going out of your way for it! read more

My first visit here! The order took a long time to come but it was so worth it. The burgers were fresh and soft and very tasty. The root beer float was amazing, the root beer was was in its own keg freshly made and ice cream was very creamy. I gotta say this may be my favorite burger spot of all times! Always a winner! I haven't been in an authentic A & W since high school. But once I bit into the taquito with avocado sauce, I was 18 again. The taquitos rock! French fries were served hot and tasty. The Papa burger still rules too! and my review wouldn't be complete without mentioning the root beer float. At this local they make their root beer with sugar cane. And the vanilla soft serve ice cream is delicious! The cool part, they have a tap that dispenses the yummy root beer ~ check it out! Like the last reviewer I stop here on the way back from Big Bear after a long weekend of Snowboarding. We have stopped here on the way up to the cabin on Friday night.the food is consistently nasty yet like a train wreck I cant look away. One glass of root beer has enough sugar in it to power a small Midwest city for a week. I can't say it enough, I am seriously impressed with the renovation, service and quality of A&W since the new ownership. Sitting here right now, and to see the owner working with the rest of the employees to keep everything flowing impresses me. Instead of being like some managers or owners and just barking orders, he working the register, getting back on the deep fryers, and filling orders with the rest of the employees. If you're going to make a BLT, buy good lettuce and good tomatoes. I got white colored lettuce and under rope tomatoes with over browned bread, not toasted. Fries were okay. Chicken tenders ... One good and one overcooked. Serve staff spent the entire time yelling at cook staff like they had done something wrong. It just made us uncomfortable, like sitting next to an arguing couple. Cashier rubbed her finger in her eye and never washed her hands. Thank goodness it was after she took our order and she didn't touch our food. At least ten flies are in the dining area. We won't be back. (To note, there was a good employee in the bunch. But the rest are in need of customer service training and I feel awful for the cook staff.) read more

I used to like this place. They seem to be under new management and it was crazy busy. The rootbeer float was undrinkable. It tasted like they had run out of syrup. I decided to muscle through, but it was too bad. After waiting to get someone's attention, they made a new one which is almost palatable, but certainly not good. The food took forever to come. Happy to see the remodel finished. I have lived in the area, within walking distance to the A&W for the past 30 years but had stopped going there due to the way "things used to be." The place is clean and neat, employees friendly and attentive. Food is good. Can't say it's amazing as I have seen reported via Facebook since the location has reopened but good, above average. People have said prices have gone way up. Well, a burger, fries, and drink will set you back around $10. That is "about" what it cost today at other places. Maybe it's a little high, but I know that the price is not a deal breaker for me. I believe the burgers are made to order as it took a little while (nothing exorbitant in terms of the wait) to get them ready and definitely they were not simply taken off a heat lamp and given to us. Big plus there. Why not a 5-Star rating? Well, my criticism is as follows: - Disappointed the location has not brought back their famous frosty-cold mugs. I know the previous management stopped using them as I was told they were stolen too often. I don't know if that is the case, but growing up across the States, being the son of active duty military airman everywhere served their floats and root beer in an ice-cold frosty mug. I ate at the Corona location a few years ago and they had the glass ice-cold mugs there. Sure miss them. - First attempt at going to the location after the remodel I checked Google to see what time they closed. The time says 12:00 a.m. I knew pre-remodel they closed much earlier -- I thought, Great they have extended their hours; let's make a late-night run to the new A&W. We showed up around 10:10 and were told by the staff who were closing down the restaurant that they were closed... I told them, Okay, but someone should update Google as it shows it is opened until midnight. Two weeks later the hours still show opened until 12:00 a.m. - Final thought. When I dine out at a sit-down restaurant I always tip generously. I know the servers work extremely hard and do not even receive minimum wage and their expected income includes the tip they receive from waiting tables. They bring me my food. The fill my beverage. They verify everything is to my expectation. They are pleasant and professional and for that service, I will normally leave a 20% to 25% tip. When I pull through a drive-through window and see a paper cup left outside the window or on the counter where I pick up my order with "tips" scribbled on the side of the cup I feel like I am at a freeway off-ramp with some dude holding a cardboard sign begging for money. I should not feel that way when I am in a fast food restaurant. At a fast food restaurant I order at a counter, typically go back to the counter when my order is called out, go back to the counter if I need a drink refill, walk up to the condiment bar to get napkins, utensils, ketchup or mustard, etc. Do you get my drift? I get that the employees who work at these places do not make great money. My first job was at Arby's and I got paid (now you are going to know how old I am) $1.85 per hour. I understand that even today with wages much higher than $1.85 the money does not go far. That is why there is something called college, or trade school where these individuals can go to prepare themselves to earn a living wage. Please don't attempt to close the minimum wage and living wage gap by begging for money. If it's not adequate, get some education and move on. There are always people entering the workforce, or others who only need to only supplement their income and these types of jobs fill that need. Put down your cardboard sign. Management, do you really want to condone this behavior from your employees? Just my thoughts. I have been to the restaurant three times since the remodel so this review is not based solely on one visit. I see great potential and know the new management has dropped some serious money into this location and I am rooting for them and hope they are very successful. I like to go to the mountains, so what better way to prepare than having a nice filling meal before heading up, right? I've given this place 4 different chances, all of which, was not impressed. Appearance wise, As others have mentioned, its pretty small low ceiling building giving it that crowded look. The worst is the restrooms are located outside and look like they are never cleaned at all! Food, I would rate as 3 stars simply because its not good, nor bad. I would only go back for their Root Beer floats and shakes. I love this place for the Rootbeer floats! They still serve the rootbeer on tap and it is so darn good! The waits are long and the building is very old and kinda alittle rough around the edges so dont expect much..
