I ordered the ricotta lemon pancakes and my husband ordered the bourbon French toast. ALL GOOD!!! The food was amazing!!!! My pancakes were very hot and stayed that way the whole time I ate. We walked in at 10:30 and weren't greeted until we stood around and looked at the baristas in front. Then, someone came and just said its a 20 minute wait. No "hello" or "have you been helped?" Either way, we told them it's fine, we'll wait. A family of 4 walk in and this one one of the baristas went up to them to apologize and say that the wait was about 20 minutes. They get greeted and an apology. Wow. Where was our greeting and apology? 20 mins passed and one of the waiters tell us we can look at a menu cause a party just left. Another family of 4 come in and one of them politely asked if we were waiting for a table. I said yes. Then, another waiter seriously seats them at the table we were to be seated at. The original waiter say and told him a few words, I assume that we were supposed to be seated first as that table was supposed to be given to us. I didn't mind only because the space was better for them as they had a stroller. But, for the other waiter to just seat people before us without saying anything or waiting until another table for is was ready and having them wait another 2-3 minutes was a bad move on his end. The guy came to take our order. This place has no sense of welcoming or friendliness. Which was a first for me as a sit down in New York. The lady from the other party of 4 came to our table to apologize and said she even told the waiter that our party was 3 were supposed to be first. I appreciated her concern and apology. Once our food came, the waiters were never to be seen again. We were never checked up on and we had to hunt one waiter down so we could get the check. The food was very good, but the service is horribly ridiculous. I would be happy to give a 4-5 star review but the service from the moment we walked in to the moment we left is beyond unacceptable. read more

We were in "adventure mode" and hungry. So we consulted the cultural oracle Yelp and settled on this little gem. A tiny place with only about 8 tables, it's pretty intimate. Tables are not typical NYC crammed in on top of each other so there's plenty of room around you. No feeling like you're sharing a meal with strangers. The interior is minimalist with cool accent lighting, making the space feel a little European. The service was efficient and friendly. I ordered hot tea which was served at proper temperature in an individual pot. This gets 2 thumbs up from me. I'm weary of the little metal pitchers of not-hot-enough water served with a tea bag and a cup, certain to produce a terrible cup of tea. After our yummy lunch, we chose a freshly baked chocolate chip cookie (big enough to share) and served slightly warmed. It got the job done for breakfast. I was dragged to this side of town by a friend who was staying at the Hilton. We opted for this place as it was open and we'd never been. The decor is cool. It looks a bit undone but I think that's what they were going for? The lighting is dim but perfect for us as we'd been out all night dancing and were leery of light. The waitress was bubbly but when she noticed that we were a little effed up, she sort of eased up on the cheeriness which I appreciated. One person got the omelette and they were out of breakfast potatoes so he got a single banana pancake as a substitute. His omelette was really good and the pancake was excellent. Crisp edges and soft banananess in the middle. Someone else got chocolate chip pancakes with banana on top and that was pretty good too. One person for the egg sandwich which I high was boring but she liked it though after trying the omelette she wished she had had that instead. I got the lemon ricotta pancakes and it was ok. My mates thought it was pretty good and the waitress did say that she thought it was the best thing on the menu but I've had better and made better. The sauce was too sweet and the texture of the pancake was ok but not that dichotomy of who's crisp and soft that I love in a pancake. I had to force myself to finish it but I did so it wasn't that bad. Lattes for everyone. I almost got press coffee but stopped myself as the waitress said it was just one cup and they pour it for you. I like to do my rituals myself thank you very much. I Had brunch on Sunday morning and I was very disappointed by the food, the service. I was expecting a good restaurant with good food and it is just a basic cafe, that serves eggs, omelettes, sandwichs. I took salmon scrambled. The salmon was ok but potatoes were not enough cooked and the 2 toasts were served without anything else , like butter. It was also pretty cold in the restaurant. Orange juice was pressed and good. Amazing bread ensandwiches every delicious dish at this futuristic hidden gem just south of Central Park. My extended family and I (6+a baby) struck out looking for lunchtime seating at the Plaza Hotel on President's Day. We spotted a.cafe on Yelp (with a 15% off check-in offer), and saw that it was just across the street - a bit hidden by construction in the area. Shockingly, our large group was seated almost immediately. The dishes were all top notch, in large part due to the incredible breads the cafe uses. Each piece of bread was bursting with hearty flavor and was toasted or prepared to perfection on every dish. The avocado toast was well seasoned and very balanced, the breakfast sandwiches came fully loaded, and the French toast was oh so good - sweet but also hearty and firm (as opposed to the soggy mess you get at some places). The portions were large and very well-priced for Manhattan - even without the discount! I would heartily recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting the southern side of Central Park or other sights in this part of New York. read more

Nestled away on 58th Street, hiding just around the corner from The Plaza, lies a magical New York culinary experience: a.cafe, the restaurant lying in AKA Hotel's Central Park property. Upon entrance, expect to be greeted by warm + friendly smiles from their entire team - an indication that proved to be true by their outstanding service and attention to detail. Their staff is delightfully polite and warm to a southern hospitality standard. My server, who's name I will forever regret forgetting for the sake of this review (I'm sorry + thank you again if you read this), was true to their word when they described the A.Burger as "a delicious pickle in every bite." I wish had consumed this more slowly for the sake of being able to write a better review. Absolutely phenomenal and one of the best I've had in New York. Other highlights of my meal included the Avocado Toast, paired with an underrated and apparently hard to find VOSS Lemon Cucumber flavored sparkling water. Delicious + Healthy = Yes Please While I initially declined dessert due to my already expanding waistline, I shamefully indulged myself with one (and by one I mean a couple), of their pastries on my way out (they have a great "to-go" counter as well) - also worth every bite. ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE. The worst service I have had in a very long time. The was nobody there and it somehow took 30+ mins to get our food after waiting 20 minutes to even be seated. I had to literally BEG to get a glass of water and the waitress forget to get me the apple juice I ordered even after reminding her twice. When the food finally came, it was just as bad as the service. The pancakes were not fully cooked, I asked for no tomato on my sandwich and it had tomato, the avocado was brown and the bread was cold. My boyfriend and I rarely, if ever, opt to order something like waffles, pancakes, or French toast from a restaurant because we feel it's something that is so easy to make at home. However, the French toast and pancakes we ordered were amazing. The French toast came with berries and nuts that really complimented it and my boyfriend loved that his blueberry pancakes were not overly sweet. The service was exceptional and very friendly. My husband and I visited this quaint and small business in hopes of a great breakfast before heading to Grand Central Park which is about 2 blocks away (major plus) . We both ordered from the breakfast menu and while he was in heaven, I was a little disappointed. He ordered the bourbon French toast with blueberries and strawberries; it was amazing and definitely filling. I ordered the steak hash with scrambled eggs (which I gave to my hubby since I gag at the smell of them). Anyways, the steak was very tough and overcooked. The potatoes were perfectly cooked if that helps with digesting dry meat. To drink I had the chai tea with a splash of vanilla and it was soothing to the soul. The service was great and the staff was friendly. But I doubt we will visit this restaurant on our next trip to NY. There's just soo many other restaurants we would love to try.
