We were in the neighborhood and knew of this place so decided to give them a try. It was 12:30 pm and they were serving breakfast only. I'm not sure if that is normal since another location does serve lunch. It could have been due to the holiday weekend or short staff, who knows. I ordered the Western Omelette with white toast. The omelette contained ham, bell pepper, onions, eggs and cheddar cheese. It was okay, cheddar is not my favorite. She ordered The Sampler which is 2 eggs with a choice of meat and either French Toast or a Pancake. She elected to go with the pancake. She said her meal was excellent! Her eggs were cooked perfectly. There was plenty of free parking in their lot. The restrooms were clean and odor free. The food was good for breakfast food. We walked in and stood in the entryway for a long time without anyone saying anything. We did not know if we should sit or just keep standing and my husband stated maybe we should just leave. I noticed that all tables were full, so thought we will give it a little as they are busy. We waited and it was awkward as you have to move out of the way since the entry is very small when people go in and out. Finally they started filling tables when there were a few that were open. The food is fine, we've been here multiple times, however, the service hasnt been super friendly. My parents took my kids here for breakfast because I was hospitalized 6 weeks early having our baby who was then in the NICU sick while I was undergoing emergency surgery. I can't believe I've lived here for nine years before ever trying this restaurant. I've been here a few times now, always ordering breakfast. The portions are generous, the prices fair and everything I've ordered has been yummy. The roasted potatoes ("hash browns") are probably my favorite out of anywhere I've eaten. I haven't had the French Toast yet, but I have drooled a bit over my friends toast - they make their own bread! My wife and I went here this morning without seeing any reviews before entering. I don't want to disrespect anyone's personal experiences, but ours was quite different than the 2.5 overall score. This was our first visit, so I was on guard going in. We were invited to sit where we liked, and chose a booth near the window. A nice early morning view, and our waitress, I suppose one of two ladies running the show, was to the table ever-so-quickly. She politely took our drink orders and my tasty coffee arrived hot and fresh. We deliberated over the menu, which is weighty without being overwhelming, and I finally chose a single slice of French Toast and a side of hash browns. I was TEMPTED to try biscuits and gravy, pancakes, or one of the specialty omelets, but I wanted to wade into the waters gently on this virgin visit. My wife opted for a veggie omelet and enjoyed it, but I only took a couple of bites so my personal review of that item will have to wait for another review. BUT MY FRENCH TOAST---YUM! It was fluffy, SWEEETTTT, and covered in a delectable powdered sugar topping that screamed out LOVE from the deepest recesses of the kitchen. I used a tiny bit of syrup that was served separately, and it was oh-so-nice, but not entirely needed. (no complaint though!) As for the hash browns, although they are more country-style potatoes than HB's, don't let that deter you from ordering some. They were seasoned up with joy and serendipity, and I found my taste buds levitating above my table in mere minutes. The potatoes have some really nice ingredients (green onions?) mixed in and are savory without being too slathered in salt. Now, in general, I'm not big on mixing savory and sweet, but THIS combo worked, AND, please note, I was SO FULL when I finished, in spite of only being set back 6-7 bucks. With my wife's meal we were at under 20.00 plus a 6 dollar tip for warm and welcoming service. The waitress(owner?) even comped me a hot cup of Joe in a to-go cup on the way out the door, and, I'm here to tell you, that cup of Joe stayed HOT for about the next 90 minutes while we ran other stops. So while I SEE the negative reviews, and understand that none of us in service (I'm a teacher) are perfect, and we all have days when we come up short on giving our best, I got A.N.R.'S BEST today, and will be back to see what other transcendent joy they have to offer. Support a local business (multiple locales, this one was Blackiston Mill) and have a yum-yum-YUM breakfast at the same time. We came here on recommendations from friends while we were visiting town. We were curious based on their review compared to the other reviews online. We did have a bit of difficulty finding the place as there is no sign and it's at the end of a strip mall, however once we located it this is what I can say....... As soon as we walked in we were pleasantly greeted by at least three members of the staff. We had barely got in our seat before they were at our table taking our drink orders, and we where asked multiple times if we had any questions about the menu. I will sum it up with this...... we lived our breakfast, everything was fantastic and fresh and the FRENCH TOAST is probably the best I have ever had.... period! I hate to hear some have critical reviews and less than pleasant experience here but our experience was nothing but positive and we will be back if nothing else for the French Toast. A Nice Restaurant with crappy service. (Well not really nice either...) I couldn't give a lower score, but want to. Walk in, greeted with a grisly "booth or table, sit over there". Imagine Anne Ramsey's (Goonies or Throw Momma from the Train) voice. Sat and waited for 5-10 minutes and no one came to even say hello. The "coffee boy" walked around topping coffee three times in that period. There were maybe 3 waitresses for the whole place, ours was flirting with the old men at the larger table. Must be regulars. Well, the regulars can keep this place. It didn't surprise me this joint was rated 2.5 stars. I think that's a bit ambitious, but I should have known I was getting into something horrible from the get go. Avoid at all costs!!! I'm currently sitting in Flippin' Pancakes to the north. The name of the joint isn't "A Restaurant That Will Send You Raving" or "A Restaurant That Will Blow Your Mind." No, it is "A Nice Restaurant" and that is exactly what it is. They do one meal, breakfast, and they do it well. The menu is pretty basic and includes eggs, omelets, pancakes, French toast, bacon, biscuits and gravy and so on; stuff you expect to find. There are the normal breakfast platters and the occasional seasonal fare such as autumn's pumpkin French toast which is very good. You won't leave feeling hungry and you're almost guaranteed to enjoy what you choose no matter what it is. My only complaints are personal preference ones in that I like my hash browns a little crispier than they prepare them and stuff like that. The servers run themselves ragged while cheerily attending to each table and the room has a bustling energy without feeling rushed. Seating is almost never an issue and the floor to ceiling windows are excellent for providing the morning's natural light. Along with the hand-painted walls and woven baskets, the feeling is warm and homey without feeling forced. While you probably won't go out of your way to visit, A Nice Restaurant provides the kind of value for your basic breakfast dollar that you will be hard-pressed better in New Albany. read more

Sexy Beast suggested that we give this place another shot. I acquiesced since holding a grudge is so very ugly. We were greeted and seated promptly. Our drink order was taken and delivered. And, then, it all went to hell. I excused myself to the restroom where I encountered our server as she was washing her hands. She looked at me as I walked in the door. I smiled and stepped past her into the stall. I shut the stall door, dropped trough, and, well, you know what happens in there. I heard the waitress open the outer door. The room went black. I hollered. The waitress walked out the door and it closed behind her. There I sat, pants down, in the dark, hollering. It was not cool. I groped around, got my pants up, shuffled out of the stall, slammed into the trash can, groped around the wall by the door, found the switch, flipped it on, and was rewarded with the reassuring embrace of light. I washed my hands and stomped back to the table where I informed Sexy Beast that we would be leaving. I even explained why. I also explained why to the offending waitress who was either stupid or callus enough to leave someone bare-assed in the dark in an unfamiliar room. She responded that she "didn't mean to" and waived away my offer to pay for our drinks. It's hard to imagine that her actions were unintentional after we'd made eye contact and acknowledged each others presence and I'm fairly sure she heard me when I bellowed when the lights went out. She heard me just fine when I ordered iced tea so she certainly wasn't hearing impaired. So, no, I won't be giving "A Nice Restaurant" another try. Recommended by my kids because it was close to their house. I was disappointed with everything I ordered but the rude put out waitress made it all the more disappointing. My wife ordered hot chocolate and water with her food. The water never came so my wife asked for it again politely. When she came back with the water she reached across four people to hand me the water then thew a straw across the table toward my wife, there was totally open space for her to walk the two more steps with the water. My toast was not toasted, butter on it was fake and tasteless. My western omelet was really a onion omelet with almost nothing else in it. I really like the food at A Nice Restaurant. It is basic breakfast essentials; eggs, bacon, pancakes, etc. Like Chuck's Cafe in Jeffersonville, they bake the bread for their french toast in house. They also use fresh, not frozen, cubed potatoes and peppers to make their unique and delicious version of hash-browns. The food isn't as exciting or innovative as Toast on Market but it is also much less expensive and there is almost never a wait for a table. The serving sizes are also much bigger and the food has more of a home cooked feel to it. The service at A Nice Restaurant can be a little disorganized and slow at times. The staff seems less professional than at some other restaurants. It doesn't stop me from eating there but it definitely gives the place a "diner" feel. read more

My boyfriend and I come here religiously, as in every weekend sometimes both Saturday and Sunday you will find us eating here with smiling faces. Never once have I had terrible service and this is since I've been coming here the past 5 months. They know exactly what we want to drink when we come in and they have our food straight out. Our regular server had surgery recently leaving her out for a little while. But even with her being gone for a while things never changed. We still get our great service and welcoming faces all the time. I was a server at Cracker Barrel for a little over a year, and if there's one thing I know, SERVING IS A VERY STRESSFUL JOB. Stopped by for breakfast. Restaurant was clean and not busy. Wait staff was not attentive. Waited 5ish minutes for first interaction. Coffee and food were both very acceptable. As we sat observing the kitchen staff, we noticed no one had hairnets, aprons or wore gloves while handling food. Cook just seemed to have on whatever he woke up in and again handled food with no gloves. Server was also cashier and aggressively threw receipt in our general direction. Poor review for wait staff who spent more time talking about personal issues than waiting on tables, poor kitchen staff hygiene and overall bad attitude of wait staff. This is a cool place! Katie and I just moved to a house in New Albany. A Nice Restaurant is maybe a mile from our house. Katie has ate their before, but I have never been. During the week they serve breakfast and lunch and the weekends they just serve breakfast. They are only open in the morning to the early afternoon. I believe they close around two. It has your small diner, greasy spoon, kinda feel to the place. The service is polite and prompt. I ordered the hash browns and a biscuit with jelly. The hash browns are the home-fry cubed potato kind and not the shredded kind. They were very tasty. Meal was very reasonably priced. We will definitely try A Nice Restaurant again. We visited a few months ago and, although the food was good, the service was very slow and disorganized. We thought about giving them another chance today. We were seated right away, but that was it. We sat and watched as 3 parties who were sat after us had their orders taken. We still hadn't been acknowledged or a drink order taken. We got up and walked out. This very assumingly named place is in a very unassuming location. It sits on the corner of a shopping center a bit from the main road with a nail salon and a dry cleaner. The inside is cozy but not very interesting. What they lack in appearance is made up for by service. On a busy morning, I ordered and recieved my food in less than 15 min. Usually I would be nervous because that means it was premade. I ordered the quesadilla and it was hot, fresh, and delicious. I initially was going to give it 3 stars because I am big on atmosphere, but I'm upping it to 4 because of the service and the food I recieved.
