In and out smog test for my daily commuter, loved their fast service! Literally less than 20 mins from walking in to leaving the place.

Brought the ride in to get a brake/light check along with smog check. I was the only one there; 90 minutes later and 15 customers later I decided to flag the front desk dude down. "Hey man, i gotta go to work". The front desk guy responds "let me go check". I think he was tired and forgot about me while he hustled the last 15 people who walked in after me. Front desk guy comes back. "Your smog check didn't pass because you don't have a gas cap. In mechanics school it was taught that is an automatic fail." That is fine, but don't make me wait 90 mins when you could easily look at the car and see that it is missing it's gas cap... I spent $109 and ninety minutes of time to be denied a smog check certificate for no gas cap. Ciao read more

On our way to stage coach and I'll truck breaks down outside of the gate started crying and did not know what we were going to do .... Started calling around and realizing we were right down the street from auto zone and they informed us that they knew of a mechanic was very scared because we are from Orange County and did not know anybody ......The auto zone employee referred as over to A-OK And took us in like family. Not only were they honest and very thorough on our truck but they picked us up dropped us off and waited 2 and a 1/2 hours in the stage coach check in line with our trailer hooked up to their truck I am more than blessed that God put these people in our lives and I highly recommend this place very honest and family oriented shop Santiago and his family Own and run A-OK read more

I had a car pre-purchase inspection done with these guys on a Saturday when few shops were open. When I picked the car up from the owner, he asked which mechanic I'd be taking it to. Not being local and not able to think of a lie fast enough, I told him "A-OK smog." As I got set up for my test-drive and my wife was loading our son into our car, she overheard the owner calling A-OK to discuss my upcoming visit there! (you wouldn't guess from looking at her that she speaks fluent Spanish, so perhaps that's why the owner was so brazen). She quickly called me to let me know I was about to get hometowned. Despite my better judgment and concerns, I still took the car there hoping they had the integrity to not do something so shady as to fake an inspection. $65 later, they told that the car was, to borrow from their name, "A-OK". It was not. Fortunately, I had the good sense to drive around Indio's mechanics district and find another shop (Competition Tires and Wheels) that was open to get a second opinion. They were awesome, and for $30, drove it around with me, invited me into the garage to show me things while they had the car up on jacks, and even wrote up quotes so I could more effectively haggle. In particular, there was clear evidence of a leak near the front differential, which the mechanics at A-OK explicitly wrote up on their evaluation as fine. But it was dead-obvious- you touched this part of the car and your hand came off soaked in oil. When I returned to LA, I had another mechanic inspect it, and without telling him in advance the nature of the problem, quickly identified this as an issue that had to be dealt with. Much to the owner's obvious chagrin and surprise, I returned armed with this knowledge and got him to knock $1000 off the price. The owner also seemed completely unaware that this car was still under factory warranty and that I had called a dealer local to my home to confirm they would honor this. Turns out the transmission is bad and has to be completely be replaced which, had it not been covered by the warranty, would have cost far more than $1k. So for me, the story ends well. I got lucky and had just enough street-smarts to avoid getting taken by these guys. But you may not be so fortunate. Does A-OK live up to their name? hardly. read more

I have been a customer for over 10 years. I moved to San Diego and I tried a couple shops in the area, huge mistake. Lesson learned, I will never use another service shop ever again. The almost 3 hour drive is always worth it. They have great customer service, family owned and operated, knowledgeable staff. My truck is still going strong. This place is all about screwing people out of their money. I should have listened to the other review. I went in to get the break & light inspection for a salvage truck I purchased for my business. They took it in and it had a side market light out. I can see that I was OK changing it, they also said that the tail light has a crack so they couldn't approve it. It was a hairline crack that didn't even go all the way in. I said ok fine I'll replace them bring it back, the guy said well when people do that they always mess up the electrical on it and blow out the fuses "but we can do it here for you" they wanted to charge me upwards of $200 to replace a 0.49 cent part and a $15 tail lamp that took me 5 minutes to replace. That's highway robery itself. When I went back they said the tail light "wasn't California approved" (even though I bought them at an auto parts store and had a DTV certificate in it) the owner even said "Yeah you bought them at the swapmeet" which I'm still trying to decifer what he meant by that. Again they just want to charge crazy prices for simple jobs. These practices should he illegal. Please save yourself some time and money and go elsewhere. This place is a complete rip off place . I wasn't sure if maybe the other people writing were just being dramatic or if it was just one person there that had been replaced . So today 7-16-2017 I went there for brake and light inspection which is $70 on a 1996 Nissan Maxima they said the reverse lights did not work . So to find out the problem it would be another like $70 now I'm in $140 to check and see if it is the bulbs . The next day they call me back saying they changed the bulbs and it wasn't that . Most likely it is something in the electrical system and would cost another $95 to check that out . Feeling like if I say no I wasted all the other money I was already committed to now they get back to me the next day not even the same day they were suppose to and say it isn't the electrical and that they traced it back to a neutral safety switch that would cost a additional $250 making my total $480 for a inspection and for my reverse lights . The car is barley worth that . I am Walking away now even know I am giving them $235 to tell me that it was a switch I need to replace and they also say it may not even fix the problem . I wouldn't go back if it was free . I am taking my car elsewhere even know I know I will be paying again it will still end up cheaper then dealing with them , plus I will never give them another penny of mine or recommend anyone to this place ,and I learned a really big lesson , never go here . I am sick to my stomach with how they are and would recommend staying away from this money suck place with people that will rip you off . I would have gave a minus rating if I could . Just picked up car so that way these guys won't keep touching it . Car was in the air for I don't know what reason and when I received it back the driver window after I turned 2 corners just fell down something that has never happened before . I called them to let them know and they said sounds like a sign of a regulator going out . Noting we touched . Going here was one of the worse decisions I have ever made . read more

The word of mouth can be very powerful, so here goes ... do not ever, ever, ever, go to A-OK Smog Repair at 46-590 Calhoun St, Indio, CA 92201 -- phone number 760-342-9811. I called to let them know that I was coming to pick up the car. When I get there in the normal reasonable amount of time, the car was still on the lift. The girl told me that the car is being inspected, and that I had to pay them the money due. I told her that the car had already been inspected because they told us already how much money it was going to cost to fix it (we gave them the car last Saturday), so that was the first thing that "ticked me off". The guy in the office started playing dumb phone games with me, and that was the next thing that "pissed me off", and I told the guy that "integrity in a company is everything" (shouldn't be a liar). I asked him to please remove the car off the lift, and he wouldn't budge the car until I paid the money. The first tow truck had to leave because the car was still on the lift. After calming down and giving the money "to move the car" (highway robbery I tell ya), I had to wait for a second tow truck to come back again. This is all happening here with triple digit heat here in the desert, and my eight-year-old son was with me. I very rarely get angry or upset, so someone has to do something very terrible to get me all riled up. And another thing, they left a note on the car written in Spanish. Hello, if you can't even write in English, please do your best to learn English if you want to do business in this great country (U.S.A.). THEY GAVE ME THE WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER !!!
