This is 3rd time I bought there so called fresh lobster meet that they advertise and it's bad I soon as I got home I could smell the ammonia smell . Shame on me for buying a third time!! A.P. Fish is our go to place for fresh seafood. They've been around since before I was born and we've always gotten our seafood here. My family love the female lobsters because we love the roe and their staff easily provide us with the lobsters of our choosing, as they have tanks full and can easily tell the difference. A.P. Fish always provide the best in live lobsters. If you're looking for fresh New England seafood, this would be your go to place to find it. My 3rd visit now. Last 2 visits were not like the first. I won't go back. Guys there only care about keeping their faces buried in their cell phones. I asked for 2 lbs of fish. He put 2 fillets in a bag and it came to 3 lbs. I asked if he would cut one. He replied "we don't cut fish here, this is what you have to take". I don't think so!!! read more

Our family shops here often for fresh seafood, and in hopes of supporting local businesses. We've never had a bad experience. However yesterday I left feeling really uncomfortable from this place. While I was there yesterday, it did not appear that they are abiding by COVID rules. Another customer was allowed to be in the store and make a purchase without wearing any face covering. In addition, the employer behind the counter was wearing his mask below his nose, barely hovering over his top lip. I love cooking seafood and trying out new recipes. I cook some form of seafood usually about twice a week. Often I'll find recipes I want to try out, but the fish or shellfish needed is tough to find in grocery stores. That's why I wanted to find a local fish monger: I thought it could be my go-to spot for more obscure seafood. After going to this place a couple of times though, I've realized it isn't really worth it to make the extra trip. The selection isn't much better than Market Basket. The only item they seem to carry that MB doesn't have every week is catfish. However, A&P only sells whole catfish with the fin on. I need fillets as I like to deep fry them. Now, maybe the staff would fillet for me if asked, but those dudes don't seem to want to be there. I don't want to ask them to fillet for me. I'd rather just substitute MB Tilapia the weeks that MB doesn't have catfish fillets (the weeks that Market Basket DOES have catfish fillets, they are excellent quality). I went there today looking for Black Cod (also called Sablefish or Butterfish). This is something MB never has. A&P doesn't have it either. I asked the guy behind the counter anyway. I figured maybe he would give me more info: like maybe they sometimes get it in, or maybe he'd suggest a good substitute. Like....Idk! I'm going to a small specialty store because I figured I'd get more specialized service. Guy just looked at me with a bored expression and said "Nah." The service at MB seafood counter is much better. They've often made conversation with me about when I could expect certain fish in or suggested substitutions. The only items A&P carries that Market Basket doesn't always have are the live crabs and lobsters. So if you make these a lot, A&P might work for you. As far as the types of fish: Market Basket carries all the same stuff, for comparable prices, with better service. Neither MB nor A&P carries soft shell crab and I'm still on the hunt for a fish monger where I can semi-regularly buy this. All in all, I decided to check this place out to see if it would be worth the extra trip. Would the fish be better quality? Nope. MB has similar quality. Would there be a better selection of items? Nope. MB selection is huge. The only reason you'd need to go to A&P is if you needed live crab or lobster or whole catfish. Are the prices better? Nope. I compared all of my most frequently bought items. The prices are identical to MB in most cases and only a dollar or two off in a few cases. If Shrewsbury hadn't gotten a Market Basket, this store would probably be worth the trip, because Shaws seafood selection stinks. But since MB has such a big selection, and since A&P doesn't have more obscure items, higher quality, lower prices, or better customer service, there just isn't any reason to make a second trip. If A&P ever starts carrying soft shell crab, catfish fillets, black cod, and other items that I can't get at Market Basket, then I'll check them out again. read more

I bought 6 pound and a half lobsters. When I got home there were two pound and a half and underneath, there were 4 chicken lobsters. SomI paid the pound and half rate for 4 chickens. Never again. read more

Although their seafood is good, we were very put off by the fact that the cashier couldn't even say "thank you" as he was on his phone during the entire transaction. Ok I can't even beleive I haven't written a review for A&P! Long long ago I lived nearby, and I can honestly say I ate a lot more seafood when I did. It was so close and even with the always long lines (typically a good sign) It was worth it to bring home something different and fresh every night. For summertime grilling ? This was THE spot for the seafood. Now funny enough I don't even like lobster, crab, clams, mussels or oysters. My family and friends do, A LOT. When I show up at the BBQ or Clambake with anything from A&P they know I brought the heat. They always always always have the tasitiest freshest sushi grade tuna here. I am not big into making it myself but got some for my nephew and he practiced making some at home. They weren't pretty or perfect but I devoured nonetheless. Makes a delicious steak for searing medium rare and slathering in sesame seeds, oil and wasabi - UGH incredible. My dad raves about the mussels and king crab legs as my mom loves the clams and oysters. Sometimes the selection can be a bit scant, but its only because its what was fresh for that day's catch. Cod and haddock for weeknight baked dinners were my favorite and the shrimp they catch i dunno its like made of butter or something. A huge spread would be ordered ahead of time for the 4th of July - Always a half dozen lobsters, couple pounds of steamers, shrimp, and a large salmon filet to wrap and grill up with some delightful herbs. .the sockeye salmon is out of control good. The staff is hit or miss. Sometimes you get a friendly kid or a grumpy man, but they are always always always VERY busy between the fish market and the fruit stand right next door. This same fruit stand is the perfect spot to grab the lemons, dill, garlic and other yums to side dish your newly acquire fishy delights. Prices are average or reasonable for the most part. I have found their prices on swordfish to be a little high but hey that's like the Rib-Eye of fish. MMM Buttery, melt in your mouth good every time. TIP: Scallops are pretty good just stick to the jumbo ones - ANY tiny scallops (bay scallops) typically come from China.. I rarely find them here, but truth be told they are almost never domestic. Larger ones are found in colder waters native to New England. My ONLY complaint - yes I know its a fish market but this may be one of the stinkiest outside of the Haymarket rush in mid-July. I am SURE its clean and sanitary as I've never served a meal or gotten sick from any bad product here, but MAN sometimes you can almost chew the stink. I gotta go back again and stock up on some new ideas :) read more

Encountered a young man who was helping me and just picking at the seafood with his bare hands what I was choosing- didn't wash his hands or wear gloves and handled the register. Also then saw him scratch his hand. At a time like this with covid- I was shocked. Ew I don't even want to eat my seafood anymore but it was $$$$. Overpriced seafood. Several of the clams we bought were bad, at 0.75c a clam! Clams were dirty and required intense scrubbing. Lobsters were overcrowded in bins. Scallops were sitting rotting in a bed of liquid, didn't buy. Store associates didn't know where seafood was sourced from and didn't seem to know what they were doing. I am a frequent customer at AP Fish & have spent a reasonable amount of money at this establishment. Today when going in to make my purchase, no other customers in store & 3 employees standing around. I requested for them to pick out 4lbs of steamers all of the large size like the ones in the case. Employee went into the back room for approximately 10 min & came back with 4 large clams & remainder were all very tiny. When requesting why they were so small the employee was very rude with his attitude & pretty much said you get what you get take them or leave them. I will not be in any rush to go back & if I could give them less than one star I would. Very disappointed. read more

I rated this fish market 5 stars two years ago but it has significantly degraded recently. I hope that they improve, soon. I have recently had several batches of PEI mussels where more than half are dead when I get them home and I live 15 minutes away. This has made me reluctant to buy more. They have recently introduced a policy of shutting off their lobster steamers at 5 pm. I was told by an employee that they don't take orders or answer the phone after 4:30pm. So, unless you wish to eat dinner very early then lobster isn't going to be on the menu. I used to be able to order lobster for 6:00pm pickup. It appears that those days are gone. You can still buy lobsters for cooking at home but I can buy live lobsters elsewhere at similar and even lower prices. I bought from A P Fish for the convenience of buying steamed lobsters for pickup at dinner time. I liked this service and was willing to overlook the occasional mistakes like preparing the incorrect number of lobsters or the wrong size lobsters. I hope that A P Fish Co changes back to the previous policy of freshly steaming lobsters for 6pm pickup because 5pm is too early. Also, your staff should answer the phone during posted business hours. I have frequently called for well over 30 minutes without getting an answer. Now I know why but I'm not happy about such a policy. read more

Oh my! We bought a dozen oysters to enjoy raw. They looked fresh and relatively clean for oysters but inside was a mess. Instead of fresh oysters, they were filled with baby crabs. If you are looking for fresh seafood, you should look elsewhere. The fish looked old and the smell was not fresh. It was an interesting experience shopping here, but I don't think I'll be returning. read more

Not a huge selection, but the prices are pretty good. The guys behind the counter aren't the friendliest and could really care less about customer service. I ignore it for the most part, but a smile or a nice word wouldn't kill them once in a while. The mussels are always cheap, fresh and I never get dead ones in the bunch. The fish is always great, and I haven't gotten a single bad purchase out of there. I like that they take debit/credit and paved the lot, too. Bonus not having to bottom out when I buy my fish! I've updated this review since my last review of 4 stars, to now 5 stars. I previously complained about the service. I now get nothing but smiles and happy faces when I go in, so evidently someone took note. Great job guys. You earned that fifth star! =) read more

A former girlfriend gave me tons of good memories, many involving places of interest in the Worcester area. But at the top of the list is AP Fish. Everytime I am in Worcester for business, which is usually twice a month, I stop here on my way back to Boston. The price of cod ($4.99/lb) hasn't changed in seven years. I do not know how they manage to get fresh product out there, but I have NEVER had a piece of fish from AP that had ANY odor whatsoever. As far as cordialiity goes,sure, the counter guys may not win any awards, but they are efficient and seemingly happy to oblige my chronic request to put ice in the double bag so my filets are kept happy on the trip home. I would be remiss if I didn't mention the veggie stand next door. Lots of counter help, always friendly, good selection and prices and sometimes a terrific deal like bananas for $.11/lb. read more

I have been getting my seafood from AP for almost 4 years now. The oysters are always incredible and well priced ( my Wellfleets, when they have them are usually 77 cents ea.). The guys behind the counter are not the most jovial but they get you in, answer questions, bag it and tag it and have you out the door in no time. Kudos for repaving the lot too!
