I went to this Indian place a couple of times and it was superb but quite expensive looking at the prices on the menu. Plates are from $17 to $19 for meat entrees! The only thing I come here for is the vegetable or chicken samosas which comes in 2! The vegetable samosas are $5 for 2 while the chicken one is $10 for 2! I think it is a pretty substantial increase from $5 to $10 if you go from vegetable to chicken! I ordered the vegetable samosas and they were very nice to provide paper plates and napkins to eat them. The vegetable samosas were pretty greasy so that's why it was packaged in a grease paper bag and I can taste the grounded potatoes and peas that made it very delicious. The samosa skin thickness is pretty thick and not too thin so none of the stuffing came spilling out. It came with 3 dipping sauces and they are the Hari (Green) Chutney (sweet), Imli (Tamarind) Chutney (tangy, smooth, red brown), Indian onion chutney (spicy). My personal favorite is the onion chutney because it tasted pretty spicy to add that extra kick. Wish the samosas were bigger because 2 of them didn't really fill me that much. The ambience of the place is pretty chill and casual. No music in the background and there's free water on the counter for people to grab. They also have a sign of all the Indian spices and herbs and their nutritional benefits. Plenty of tables and chairs there to choose from.

Good food but a bit overpriced for the portion. I had their lunch "Feast", and since I am vegetarian, instead of a chicken choice, I asked for two veggies (mushroom bhaji and sarson ka saag). When the waitress asked if I wanted rice or naan or both, I chose only rice, which I came to regret, as the portions were quite small, and I was still hungry after wiping clean the entire plate. There was a good lunch crowd, all the seats were taken, and an older gentleman vacated a bar stool next to the serving counter. He sat on the other bar stool to work on his laptop. Later he asked me how I liked my food - I realized he was the owner of the restaurant. Seeing his turban, I asked him if he was Sikh? Yes he was - then he must be a vegetarian too (no wonder the veggie dishes tasted so good!); and also like me, a meat-cooking vegetarian :-). All in all, I liked the food, but wished for a better portion.

Solid Indian food at saffron thread and friendly service. Both chicken dishes i bought had tender chicken with good flavor to satisfy my Indian food craving. I thought the saag paneer and other vegetable dish that I had could've used more flavor though and that there was not much spice in the dishes which is what takes away a star for me. Solid indian food to satisfy your craving though!

I have not eaten at Saffron Thread in over three ( 3 ) years (way before the pandemic) and just wanted to try something new, yet, still old.  A pity life cannot be as good after stopping for a period of time.  The spinach was silky with pieces of tofu tasting delightful having the same Indian nuances as years gone by.  The chicken tikka masala was just as I remembered  -   Creamy with all of that curry goodness circling throughout my mouth.  Of course, the naan was soft, delicate, and mouth watering when dipped and soaked in both the spinach and chicken masala sauces. Although I understand increased prices, I was confused about the naan's decreased size?  When I requested the naan be placed inside the container's empty square section, I was told "No, it can't be done.  It cannot fit."  WRONG!!, more foil was used / wasted to wrap this SMALL naan. This was definitely an expensive lunch for $11.00 / three ( 3 ) pictured menu selections  (See Attached).  I now remember why it was over three ( 3 ) ago eating at Saffron Thread because the food was so fabulous!  If you can afford to splurge, get their mango lassi to accompany your meal. It will be a treat for your tastebuds.

A simple lunch spot between FIDI and Tribeca, this place was a pleasant surprise. The person behind the counter was helpful. She pointed out that biryani was fried rice, when i was staring at the menu looking for chicken n' rice for lunch. It had the right amount of spice to it. Not a cheap lunch, but the serving size allowed me to take home leftovers to stretch it for another lunch the next day. This is one of those things that taste just as good, if not better, the next day. My wife's tikka was tasty too.

Had this catered into work today. There was only basic Indian food. We had Saag Paneer, Vegetable Samosas, Chicken Tikka Masala, Lamb Rogan Josh, Naan, Rice Pulao, and Chana Masala. Overall all of it was pretty standard and nothing really all that flavorful or amazing. However, I'd say they gave us what was probably the best veggie samosa I've ever had, which is what redeems this to a 3-star rating. Crispy where it counts and delicious otherwise. I also liked the consistency of the naan as well. Cooked to almost perfection. Wish it had more bitter or flavor.

After an hour of waiting for our food, the three tables around us who arrived after us already got their food and were nearly done with their meal. We ask about this twice, and each time the owner says all three tables "pre-ordered" their food. I was confused and asked every table if this was true and obviously it was not. Before leaving, we confront the owner about the inconsistencies in his story, but he just double downs on his lie, alleging that we don't understand how a restaurant is run. For some reason, he even started to yell at the busgirl who was trying to get him to apologize? In addition to holding us hostage for an hour and continued lying, he tries to make the racist point that Indian food is more sophisticated and takes longer to prepare than other types of Asian food. I feel there are certain standards in the NYC service industry given the competition, and this was a confusing and unacceptable experience. The food was admittedly good, but not good enough for them to have the attitude they had.

They've passed that torch to their sister restaurant, Adda. Not only has their menu changed, but so has the staff. And it doesn't necessarily have to be a bad thing, but in this case, it was. We were recently served by someone who admitted himself that he's only been there for a week. No big deal. Except our first dish took 30 minutes to arrive. Meanwhile the folks to the left and right of us kept getting their food and they ordered after us. When we were done with our first and only dish, I asked our waiter where the rest of the food was, only to find out he didn't fire any of it because he was waiting for us to completely finish. However, we never really got to it, having been busy exploring the Semmas and Bungalows of the city. On a cold Saturday evening my partner and I decided to give Indian Accent a shot - got rather last minute reservations over the phone. They were kind enough to accommodate us for a 7 pm slot, and once we got there we were seated immediately. We chose the four course menu, and found each course to be better than the one before! The shorba (soup) and garlic kulcha amuse bouche was a nice touch to get things started - loved the tiny terracotta mugs. Proceeded onto the shakarkandi chaat and the chilly pork roti - the former reminding me of the delectable street food in Delhi winters with the latter being a very good Indian rif on birria tacos. The star of the show for me was the Tofu medu vada - so unique and flavorful and melt in the mouth! I've not had anything quite like it before. My partner had the wagyu kebab that he said was excellent! For mains we had the chicken malai and the paneer - both tasty, but by this point we were already so full, and had to get most of the mains to go. But because there's always room for dessert, for our final course we scarfed down doda barfi with ice-cream and sticky toffee banana pudding - both of which were finger licking delish! Our service was great too - Ty our server was so nice and had the best recommendations. I'd have never gone for the tofu medu vada among all the other options and he urged me to, and it really turned out to be the highlight of my meal. The cocktails were good too. All in all, I think this is such a nice upscale Indian dining spot for a night out in the city. Having tried most of the other trending newer spots, i think Indian Accent sits right among the top! I'd highly recommend and cannot wait to be back!

I'm a fan of Indian cuisine, and since this was viewed as being some of the best in the city, I wanted to try it for myself. After some procrastination and failed attempts at securing a table, I was able to book a reservation for the other night - so one of my friends and I headed over for an early dinner. It's not impossible to make a reservation at Semma, but I recommended going for one as soon as they drop at 9am. Even then, you'll likely only get one right at opening or late night - typical of trendy spots in the city. They hold the bar seats for walk-ins, but you need to be there early as there's typically a line that forms prior to opening. Walking in, the space was somewhat narrow as is typical with Manhattan restaurants, but was still somewhat roomy - we didn't feel cramped at all and the restaurant actually opened up to a larger space as you walked more inward. I really liked the decor- it was bright with pops of color and lots of bamboo accents; the woven ceilings added a tasteful touch. The menu contains Southern Indian cuisine, which is a contrast to the more commonly seen Northern cuisine. You won't find any naan or tikka masala here - to be honest I wasn't familiar with the majority of the items on the menu. I found that to be a plus, and appreciated how un-Americanized the dishes seemed to be. The menu was separated into bites, app-sized dishes, and larger format mains - with a few sides as well. Our server explained that dishes were meant to be shared, and recommended an appropriate size based on our party size. We decided to start with one of their bites and two apps: the paniyaram, gunpowder dosa, and mattu iraichi sukka (short rib). The paniyaram was a dumpling stuffed with lentil and paired with a sauce (sauces will be a common theme in this review). The dumplings were good, but not the most flavorful and slightly tough. The gunpowder dosa and short rib were excellent; the latter was tender wit great flavor, and the dosa was one of the best things I've had in a long time. The combination of the pastry with the potato filling and flavorful sauces it came with made for a truly special dish - I can understand why this is one of their signature items. For our mains we ordered the ghee roast lamb chops and the valiya chemmeen moilee (lobster tail) - both of these were great. I'm not the biggest fan of lamb, but the chops were cooked well and the sauce they doused them in was delicious and complex - the rice the dish came with was a good complement, as was the extra sauce they provided mmmm. The lobster tail was delicious - super tender and, again, such a flavorful sauce. Like the lamb, lobster isn't one of my go-tos but this was some of the best lobster I've had. We also ordered a side of parotta which was perfect to dip in all the different sauces. We opted for dessert and went for the passion fruit pudding. I wasn't impressed with this - it seemed too stuffy in comparison to the very honest food we just had; I would opt for a different dessert next time. Service was great - despite the heavy crowds, they controlled traffic well and our server was super friendly and knowledgeable. Overall, I had a great experience at Semma. Is it a little overhyped? I think so - but the food is still excellent with complex flavors and a menu filled with items unfamiliar to the typical American palate. I would definitely return for another meal.
