This is a locals only place that has become very popular. It's right underneath the old bridge from Kahului to Wailuku. Now they have a new outdoor deck. Really great. Like I said my check in. The Vietnamese burrito is a must have for people that like fresh food.It's super easy to park and the head waiter should be on the Johnny Carson show, if Johnny Carson was still around. A Saigon Cafe is the best Vietnamese restaurant on Maui! The "shrimp burrito" and fried calamari are our staples. The shrimp burritos are fun to make and consist of all fresh ingredients. The calamari is not your typical frozen battered calamari rings. It is so much better than that and even the shrimp chips they plate it with are good. This time we also ordered a ginger tofu dish, fried shrimp, and seafood noodles. The ginger tofu was covered in the most amazing sauce that I wish I knew how to make at home. All the dishes are made with herbs and spices that give them such great fresh flavors! Parking is limited, so come early. They are located next to an apartment complex that I believe is owned by the restaurant owner. The restaurants location makes it somewhat of a hidden gem. A good way to spot it is by the shooting stars on the roof. The parking lot is on the smaller side, so come early to beat the lunch and dinner rushes. read more

Jennifer needs to spend more time at her restaurant, things are going downhill. We have been going for decades and had a particularly bad experience last night. Food was off par last night, but #62 (chicken lemongrass) had almost no meat. When brought to the waiter's attention his comment was "order more chicken next time!" PORK CHOPS!!!! I don't know if they brine it first in some kind of special, addictive drug, but this has to be the best chop I've ever had. Simple boneless chop, fried, and pre-cut when it comes to the table. The meat is so juicy and tender. When I bite down, I keep thinking I'll need to tear into it like a caveman (lifetime of tough chops...sorry Mom). But then...ahhh. I realize I'm at Saigon. Guys the original owners have sold this property. When we arrived there was a man in the back cleaning onions on the ground while chickens were nearby. Besides that the pho was horrible one of the least flavorful pho's I've had in awhile. Service was terrible no one filled up our drinks even after we reminded the staff. This place was recommended to me by a local. The food and service was outstanding. I had the beef curry with rice as recommended by my server. Lots of succulent beef, great sticky white rice done to perfection, flavor was outstanding with just the right medium spice level. Also had a nice glass of Merlot wine. LOVE this place! Please note: the parking lot is for both the restaurant and the apartment building adjacent to it, so you'll want to park on the street side of the parking lot. The stalls are a bit narrow so if you're driving a wider vehicle and are concerned, you may want to consider parking on the street. On to the restaurant - they have a full bar and an extensive menu. The food is so delish - full of flavor and portion sizes that are just right. Must tries (if your diet allows): Fried calamari Cubed beef Green papaya salad Summer rolls Any pho dish Any bun (vermicelli) dish - my fave is the BBQ pork meatball There are several more dishes that I know are certified yum-elish, but they escape me right now. Be advised - not all the waiters take orders, so if you want to order your food, make sure to let them know and someone will come and take your order. Good Pho, Not Huge Bowls, And Maui Sized Prices Anyone from Maui or who has visited knows the prices are pretty high on this island for everything. For some reason the portions of food also are made smaller which in effect means prices are even higher since you get less. The Pho here was tasty, but unfortunately the $13 bowl of soup is not very big so I left still feeling hungry and a bit disappointed. I am accustomed to the Arizona and California Pho kitchens where they bowls are big and run $7-$9 which is enough for a bowl of broth with noodles with a little bit of meat on top. When you pay $13 for a bowl in normal places it is HUGE! The service was friendly and the establishment was clean and quiet. All in all I won't be a regular here at these prices with the smaller servings. read more

After a long day of hiking and sightseeing, we decided on vietnamese food. Walked in and got seated very quick! Service was on point and everyone is very friendly. We ordered Banh Hoi combination, Calamari, fried eggrolls and a bowl of pho combination. 6 out of 10 is what I'll rank the pho broth just because it was on the bland side. Still had its beef flavor but the broth didn't have the richness to my taste. Eggrolls was fresh and tasty! Calamari was okay but the sauce can be better. Banh Hoi was probably the best out of all the dish we ordered. Very well seasoned meat and the portion was enough to feed 4 people. Overall we would come back and try other dish. read more

I'm sorry to leave 1 star. This is based on my own palate and preferences. In my opinion the food was inedible. Everything tasted like it had a cup of sugar in it. We spent $65 and all 3 dishes were overpoweringly sweet. We got a soup, a chicken stir fry dish, and shrimp with black bean sauce. The shrimp was also rubbery. My very favorite thing to eat here is the clay hot pot with chicken and shrimp! Trust me, you won't go wrong. I live on Oahu and dream of this dish of theirs whenever I think of Maui. I haven't tried much of anything else since I always get the same thing. read more

Pork chop- no taste (both times) Pho w/meatballs- meatballs were bland, pho is average; lime given (both times) was old looking Vermicelli w/spring rolls and beef- spring rolls were burnt, beef was bland and peanuts in the noodles and under the meat (asked for no peanuts) Service was terrible. First time they didn't check on us at all until they brought the bill. Second time I asked for no peanuts in my vermicelli dish and the server was joking around and asked if I didn't want a bunch of other things in my dish. Was a little disappointed I found peanuts in my food after I started eating. If I had a peanut allergy I'd be in trouble. read more

I cant comprehend the 4-5 star reviews. The food is here is mediocre at best. Even though I have fancied Vietnamese food from major cities such as LA, NY, philly, I came to this establishment with an open mind. We were served tap water with ice with no lemon/lime. I took a look at the water and saw pulp-like bits floating. I thought this was due to the lemon/lime that they might've added into the main container and I am getting remnants from it. Took a sip of the water and tasted like tap water with no hint of lemon/lime...I hope my taste buds were just wrong. Pho was too salty for my liking. I requested hot water to dilute the soup. Unfortunately it is one of the worst pho I've had. Would recommend Vietnamese to go in Kihei as an alternative. The fried calamari was horrendous. The dish came with a sauce. The batter was flavorless and tasted like cardboard. My parents taught me to finish my plate. I was able to finish the pho but couldn't finish the calamari and I love calamari. My husband got number 41 which is basically a vermicelli dish with fried spring rolls and other veggies which you can't go wrong with. This dish was OK. The lack of vietnamese cuisine on this island clearly served this establishment well. The inflated price tag for the quality doesn't justify a future visit. read more

Excellent Pho! I was hoping for a good bowl and ended up getting a great bowl, the meat balls, and tendon was exceptional and the broth was perfect. I would highly recommend stopping here when on Maui and in need of Pho. The service was as good as it could possibly be and the service was very prompt. All over experience was a solid 4.3 stars. This cute joint has something good going for them. My only dislikes are that the floors could use a refurbishing, parking should be better labeled or defined and their shrimp rolls need more flavor and more shrimp. Other than that the peanut sauce was pretty great and the pho... oh the pho! I decided to go for the all in pho! Tripe, rare beef and one other thing I can't remember the name of but it was like this amazing beefy gelatinous cartilage from heaven! Their broth was quite flavorful and not over salted! the amount of noodles was just right when paired with the toppings they put into the pho. It was a little bizarre that it was served with a lemon instead of lime but the acid did just what it needed to. Their newly renovated bar is modern and definitely gave the restaurant the extra boost it needed to make a statement. The staff is friendly, funny, helpful and really care about your experience. They are all a big team and you can tell because everyone will check on you to make sure you are enjoying your experience. This does seem like a kama'aina place and is not tourist which I truly enjoy! It's nice to stop and relax away from the hustle bustle of touristy spots.
