I've known of A-town Pizza for a looooong time. I don't know why we never went here because you shouldn't judge a store by its storefront. L O C A T I O N On Whipple in a small plaza with Amy's Donuts. They have a parking lot that's shared with all the businesses here. Easily found parking directly in front. I N S I D E There's not much space inside like it's like a few steps from the door to the desk. I peeked in and there's a small table that may seat two people. So make sure you're coming here to just grab and go. M E N U The have pizza as well as some appetizers, desserts, calzones, salads, sub sandwiches, pastas, and soft drinks. For pizza, pricing is basically the same as doing custom toppings so if there's some items on a specialty pizza that you don't want, just build your own pizza. Though the one thing I did notice was that there was no choice on the sauce but I'm sure you can ask. If you do go online to order, it's nice you can split toppings to different halves of the pizza. Also the prices of the pizza was cheaper than another place we were looking at. We got a Party Size - 20" pizza with mushrooms and tomatoes all over the pizza, on one half - ground beef, ham, and pineapple and the other half - chicken, zucchini and (red) onions. It's not stated on the toppings list that it's red onions which I'm glad we ended up only putting it on one side as my stomach doesn't handle red onions (specifically) well. The pizza was a bit soggy in the middle but crisp on the outside which I'm not mad at. I just folded it over as it's large anyways and it was a nice contrast to the crisp outside. The pizza had a thin crust, love. The outer crust not super bready. The marinara sauce was full of flavor and the ground beef tasted like it was seasoned which was a nice touch. S E R V I C E I called in my order which I ended up using the phone number on their website which is (510) 471-7677. Yelp has a different number but if you try to edit it, it's locked and with the right number...quite weird. The person who picked up the phone was very kind and patient as I was trying to give specific half and half and full toppings. Everything was right on the order and we paid easily when we came. We were told 20 minutes and we came around that time and the pizza was just coming out. Perfect. O V E R A L L In retrospect, we didn't need a party size but now we know. Crisp crust with fresh flavorful toppings. Great service and looking forward to trying out more of their toppings and smaller sized pizza. There are days when we just want something quick and cheap so we get it from places around the corner who can have it ready in 15 minutes and satisfy your craving. How do you screw up a pizza? Soggy/oily crust, not enough sauce, toppings, cheese. So when we want something we can truly enjoy, we go to A-town. Always fresh ingredients and they always get the crust just the way I like it. There were a few years when we almost forgot about them, but lucky for us, they survived the pandemic (unlike most places we frequented... RIP). Very disappointed with this place. I'm a long time customer of over 10 years. I drive all the way from Tracy, CA for their pizzas as they are amazing and the owner is an amazing human being but not sure if it's under new ownership or new employees but I stopped by today for pizzas and when I got home to eat, the pizzas were overcooked and did not have any pizza sauce. I understand mistakes happen but when I tried to dispute it, the restaurant blatantly lied and refused to take any type of ownership of the issue. I was taken aback with the audacity to lie and refusing to provide any type of compensation or anything of that nature. I had very fond memories of this restaurant and even sent them business on several occasions whenever I had events at work. I always sent them business as I appreciated the food but more than that, their hospitality and integrity. I hope deep down that this is just a one off incident and just an employee having a bad day but I am done with this business. This is based solely off customer service with the ice cream. I have enjoed their pizza and prices in the past. Perhaps there are new owners. In any case my mom went in to get a couple scoops of ice cream and was quoted a price of $2 per scoop. She came outside to tell me that she thought it was too expensive and I told her to go ahead and get it. As I was parked directly in front of the business, I could see the price from outside. As I was entering, he was giving my mom her change. I asked her how much he charged her. She handed me $1.50. I looked at him and he said the sign says 2 scoops for $3. He looked up at sign as if he didn't know what the price should be, or that it was wrong. Then he said, plus tax and I gave her a little more. Well our tax rate would not make the cost $3.50. You can hold a slice in your hand without it folding over as you should. The Greek sale and tiramisu are also specialties. Orders are quick and easy. I'm good. Second visit I bring the teenagers. Boys, 14 and 17. One gets olive and sausage on his slices. The other Hawaiian. We tailgate in the parking lot.
