I came onto Yelp to give this shop a great review with my long standing experience and surely entertaining history. After having read a few of the one star reviews, the salesman who always helps me and who i'm certain the not so spectacular reviews are referencing is named Alex. Though there is a personality resemblance, there is no "Tony" (as in Soprano) at this shop. And Joe who was also fun to banter with is actually at a different discount store down the street. But I must admit, I love the showmanship of the old school salesmen :-) I've had mostly great experiences at this vacuum shop. No one is more knowledgeable or handles my vacuum needs as quickly and efficiently. They are not always the least expensive, but as a business owner, I place a great deal of value on service. I am giving four stars because they ought to have later hours. read more

I have to say, that I have NEVER had better or friendlier service from any shop of any kind. Alex was so accommodating and generous. We brought in an used vacuum cleaner that we had just bought from a Craigslist seller. One of the belts was missing, so thought we would just pick one up and replace it ourselves. But Alex offered to take a look and replace it himself free of charge of the service -- just charging for the belt. But when he got inside the machine he felt the brush roll was frozen, i.e. wouldn't work even if we replaced the belt. But he said he would try. It didn't work. He recommended taking back to the Craigslist seller. But, then he said, "you know what, give me a sec." He went to the back of the shop and came back with the identical machine, and said he would just give it to us, and he'd keep the one we came in with. I couldn't believe it. But, when we inspected the second vacuum we discovered issues with it (probably why it was just being stored in the back). Like a hose that was cracked, filter door also cracked. But, guess what -- he just stared taking apart the vacuum that we brought in, taking working parts off it and giving it to us to use as replacement parts. On top of all that the store had actually closed right before we arrived, but he stuck around to help us out. And after ALL that -- he only charged us for the vacuum cleaner bags and filters that we needed. He hadn't suggested we buy those things, we had come to store wanting to buy them along with the new belt. So all in all the best experience I have ever had. Thank you Alex!!! read more

Their price for the Miele bag I needed is the same as it is online on Miele's website. Usually the price online is lower but this mom-and-pop shop is able to surprisingly match the online price. Do not take your vacuum to this shop. They will lie to you about what repairs are needed, aggressively push you to buy an expensive new machine, then deliver a refurbished one while claiming it is "new". The hose on our C3 Miele Marin vacuum was damaged and we needed a new hose. The Miele Customer Help line referred us to ABC Vacuum in Mountain View, so we took it there. The pushy sales / repair guy, Tony, essentially said that the spare hose could not be fixed, and also said that he had discovered a new problem -- that the vacuum's neck joint between the periscoping wand and the head was damaged and nonfunctional. He pushed us hard to buy a "brand new" C3 Kona instead. Believing that an authorized Miele repair shop would not be lying to us, we bought it. There were some odd things about the transaction: the invoice had wrong date and named the wrong person, and ABC Vacuum did not provide the original box or packaging or papers for this "new" C3. Strangely, this one business goes by two names: "A Vacuum and Sewing Hospital" and "ABC Vacuum". At the time of purchase, ABC Vacuum did not inform us about any policy regarding no refunds or any restocking fee. Returning home with the old and "new" vacuums, we plugged in the old one (which ABC Vacuum had said was damaged and nonfunctional) into an electric power outlet (which Tony had not done - undoubtedly on purpose), and the neck joint worked fine. So, it turns out that our old C3 was totally fine, but just needed a new spare hose. Tony refused to take back the "new" one and refund us the money. read more

He immediately me I needed to buy a new vacuum cleaner and he would give me a super "deal"! I didn't think fast talking, shady, sales people like him existed anymore! Lol I proceeded to have my vacuum serviced anyway. Picked it up the next day. It was cleaner, but still worked the same. Asked about the "deal" and was told there was no negotiating on the price of the very high end German made one I wanted. Went to another, more reputable vacuum store, with no high pressure, double talk and bought a beautiful machine at a fair price! read more

Called to find out if they had a filter for my vacuum. Gave model number, all the info. He says, "I'm sure we have it." I go, he doesn't have it. He offers to order it. I agreed and stupidly paid at the time. A few days later they said it was in, but it was still the wrong filter. I called and even went to the shop 2 times after that, but they always said "It's not here yet, we'll call when it is." No call. This was months ago. read more

They give super high quotes for parts & labor cost to fix your vacuum. They will also try to buy your used vacuum by giving you few dollars of credit when you buy a new vacuum here. Then they will fix your vacuum, make it almost new and sell it for high price!! Also, watch out when you buy filter & bags here, they tried to give me cheaper brand without a name (without a box) when I paid high price for Miele brand (over $100). And it wasn't a mistake, worker knew exactly what he was doing and try to laugh it off. WTH!! read more

They do a great job on older sewing machines, ones that other repair places turned their noses up at. Their estimate was dead on, and they replaced a few little parts (spool pin & a hinge) at little or no cost which just made the machine even easier to use. read more

One of my 1979 COMPACT (Tristar) turbo brush rug tool's wheel broke so I needed a replacement (best vacuum ever IMHO). Had researched online and with Mfg and could not find. Finally went here and joy o' joy they had a perfect matched set, plus new bearings and clips for the rod holding the wheels. Also got bags, inside vacuum filter, belt, and new floor and upholstery brushes from them. I spent ~ an hour dismantling, cleaning and replacing the parts and insulation foam - works like a dream again! Alex and Steve provided excellent customer service and prices where reasonable. If my little 'piggy' needs repairs I can't do, they will be by guys! read more

I went in to buy a hepa filter for each of our two vacuum cleaners. When I got home I noticed that the package for one of them had been opened and taped back together. The filter in that package did not fit my cleaner. I suspect that a knock-off filter had been placed in the original packaging. When I took the filter back and said that it did not fit I was offered another filter where the packaging was intact, but I wanted my money back. I was given my money back with no argument. read more

I brought my Phaff sewing machine to this company to repair the pressure foot that was not working correctly and to have the machine cleaned and check for any additional problems. The estimate they provided also included replacing the light bulb (something that I forgot was also not working). The estimate seemed a bit high but not so high that I wanted to shop around further. I did not receive a phone call to inform me the the work was complete. I called the following day and told that the work was done and that I could come to the store to pick up the machine. When I arrived, I specifically asked if the machine had any additional issues and was told that is was "just like out of the box". When I arrive home I discovered that the light was still not working so had to take it back a few days later. I was told at that time that there was a part that needed to be replaced. A part that they knew about at the time that I called to see if the machine was fixed the first time. There is also a feature (nothing that I have used yet) of the machine that was no longer usable after the first repair attempt. The repair person tried to convince me that it shouldn't be a problem. i tried to impress upon him that it wasn't in the same condition as when I gave them the machine. At this point I still have not tested the machine to make sure that it is fixed but even if it isn't, I won't be going back. Overall, I suspect that the prices are high and the quality not as good as it should be. read more

First allow me to say that the repair that I had done on our vacuum was done well, quickly, and (I felt) for a reasonable price. I have no complaints about the technical capabilities of the shop. I won't ever be coming back, though, because of my experience with one of the employees, who I believe was named Tony. He started off by making some very crude remarks about a female customer that had just left the store, and then proceeded to essentially ignore me while he fiddled with some paperwork. When he finally acknowledged me again the rest of our conversation was filled with odd to downright offensive remarks about various cultural groups and religions, including making some stereotypical assumptions about my beliefs based on my birthplace. He also dropped in several drug references, and on the whole was extremely uncomfortable to interact with. Again, I have no complaints about the repair itself, but I am not keen to talk to Tony again any time soon, and I certainly would not feel comfortable having my wife go into the shop after hearing his comments about female customers. I'll be steering clear in the future. read more

Alex, the technician, repaired my more-than-10-year old Kenmore Progressive vacuum cleaner quickly, with great customer service. I dropped it off on a weekday early afternoon, he called about 30 minutes later with an estimate, I authorized the repair, he gave me a pick up time later in the afternoon. It was ready and waiting for me, and better than I expected. He replaced the old cord with a factory Kenmore cord (much nicer than the so-so plug repair that a competitor down the street had done). The old filters were pretty sad, I am happy to have new ones. I'm a happy customer. Recommended! read more

I sent my teenager son in to buy vacuum bags tfrom the Mountain View shop. He had forgotten what type of vacuum we had (forgot the list at home, naturally). Tony was very helpful in showing him the various types of vacuum models to narrow down which type we really needed. I appreciated his due diligence - I was expecting company and desperately needed the bags in order to vacuum. Great Customer Service! If you want to get one of the older, all metal, higher quality classic Mieles, this is the place to go. They have an impressive selection of refurb sewing machines and Mieles as well as other vacuums, all at a good price and with a warranty on their work. There is a very aggressive salesperson here who is the main contact. Be warned, his approach is full press Joe Pesci on amphetamines. You need to have your shield up and your best focus and negotiating skills sharp, because he is a Salesman, capital S, and all about hustle. Yes, he will try to tell you it's not worth fixing your machine and hard sell you on one of their refurb machines. Docked a star because frankly, going here can be exhausting. Spend some time talking with him and get him to slow his roll, and you'll realize he is a good guy and knowledgeable and can teach you a lot about all of the vacuums and vintage sewing machines there. The owner is the easiest, most straightforward person to deal with, but he doesn't seem to be on site much. He was great at tenaciously pushing through an in-warranty repair with Miele when they were being difficult. The third person I've encountered there, the son, seemed a little out of it and communication was mystifying. During that visit, I finally just overpaid for a used part to get the job done, because I just wanted to move on. There is another place a bit west on El Camino toward San Antonio that has a much more serene energy and the staff is incredibly kind, though they do not have the refurb stock that this one offers. read more

This is the slimiest vacuum cleaner store I have ever dealt with. I took a vacuum cleaner in to be repaired and got an estimate of $179 to repair the vacuum cleaner, so I purchased a new vacuum cleaner from the store. As I walked out after the purchase the store salesman offered to repair the vacuum cleaner for $50 so I could sell it. This tipped me off that the repair diagnosis was bogus. I took the old vacuum cleaner to a reputable repair store and they diagnosed the problem as a short in a wire and fixed it for $30. This encounter gives a whole new meaning to slimy businesses. I usually only write 5 star reviews because I don't want to impact anyone's livelihood, but in this case I will make an exception. Just the facts: I took my Miele vacuum cleaner head in, with instructions from my fiance (a repair person extraordinaire... of everything) to ask for a drive belt part. The guy there, Tony, told me that I needed a new head for $150 and did something called "direct connect" to verify it. He said the drive belt would not help, but was about $21. I felt suspicious, and decided to go back home and consult with my fiance. My fiance then took the head to Menlo Vacuum and Fix it Shop, who said, "Your drive belt has no teeth and that's the problem." Menlo Vacuum and Fix it sold him a new drive belt for about $8. Vacuum now works perfectly. You be the judge. read more

I have been to the shop before and received prompt and useful help. I don't know what happened since then but... I took my vacuum into the shop for repair and the first thing an aggressive salesperson said was it wasn't worth fixing as it was a cheap vacuum and I was led to a dirty floor model Dyson and told I could buy it and they'd give me credit and take my old vacuum for parts. Next suggestion was a $400 vacuum. Finally, he said that they would replace the filters and blow it out as the suction weak in the hose. After picking it up, the suction wasn't any better so I worked on it myself and found about 4 cups of carpet fuzz stuck in the hose. I agree with the other post about feeling like it was a slimy place. PS this is my first yelp post ever. read more

I assumed the parking between this place and the restaurant next door was shared, and I came back to my car an hour later with a business card taped to my car threatening to tow me if I ever park there again. I went to Target to check out the Dyson vacs and then thought of this small shop in M.V. When I arrived, I was gretted by friendly and very knowledgeable Chris Stanyan. He showed me how much better the Miele (made in Germany) was. I was given a through understanding of both products and bought the Miele. I ordered a Miele Twist vacuum cleaner from the Miele website, but when it came the telescoping wand was jammed. These guys are pretty close to my house, so I called in and he told me to bring in the wand, and also the serial number from the bottom of the vacuum for warranty info. When I went in, he didn't even ask for the serial number, he just took the wand, worked on it for a couple of minutes, and gave it back fixed. Nice service! read more
