Mochiko chicken & galbi (most recent)

Very generous proportions- If you order mini you get one scoop of each side; regular you get 2 scoops of each side It's more of a cafeteria style restaurant ; order/ pay first and then sit down; choose your own tables. But if you need additional plates, utensils, they will give to you free of charge All the food comes in to go containers regardless of eating in or out The ladies there are kind and flexible when making your own combinations. Husband said the saimin is so so so good, he wouldn't stop talking about how good the broth was! I personally love the mochiko chicken, they use a whole thigh fillet and fry- but the first time I went it was smaller pieces and a bit over fried (crunchy and hard) but this time it was bigger pieces (less batter, light and crisp). This is the only reason I m giving 4 stars instead of 5 since it wasn't consistent But food is good, not as greasy as a Hawaiian chain that is here. Big proportion, everything is tasty and good priced! Highly recommend.

After coming back from my trip in Hawaii last month, I've been craving LOCO MOCO ever since! I stopped by AI Hawaiian BBQ and got their loco Moco (and for some reason asked them to sun rice with broccoli lol), as well as the Teriyaki Chicken rice bowl! The loco moco patty was a bit thin for my preference, but other wise, I'd was tender and flavourful! The chicken teriyaki was very well done as well! The chicken skin was the perfect crisp and the inside was juicy. There was enough rice in the bowl that I split it and put some into the loco moco box (since I ordered broccoli instead of rice lol). We ordered a side of mac salad even though each plate comes with a side of it already! (You can choose two of anything and the rice counts as one of them). The mac salad is one of the eBay I've had! It was creamy but not too heavy. The service was exceptional as well! The restaurant was very spacious with abundant seating. I loved how they created a huge space in the middle so the restaurant doesn't feel so crowded. This is the perfect place to come for a quick bite! The pricing is fair too-- was only $26 before tips for two people and it was very filling.

Food was really, great. We order Hawaiian BBQ Mix and chicken fried rice. Would Defiantly come back and try some of the other food in their menu. The place is small and can blend with other businesses around them. Customer service was amazing and super sweet folks.

I've ordered from here before. I don't know what's changed. New owners. New cooks...I don't know but, the change was fo da bettah. Howzit, island fam?! Go try dis one. Broke da mouth Ono. Bllalah kine portions. Even the Mac salad reminded me of Rainbow Drive-in from da Hana-bada days!

A1 has been open for a minute now along Kent Kangley. Its more a 3.5 Star for food and ambiance but as a local from hawaii with not a lot of choices for nearby hawaiian food, A1 will have to do. I always get da musubi trio which you can pick spam, katsu, bbq chicken or portuguese sausage. Kalua and cabbage was good, not amazing, but enough to satisfy and affordable wit da mini plate at about $10. Lots of menu choices and friendly service. Wish they had some hawaiian cake slices too. Think about it A1... ok? Menu feels very much like L&L. There. I said it. But go try and see whatchu think. Support local

Excellent masalades and Masubis! The beef ribs were a bit fatty and chewy. Looking forward to trying out other items.

This was my first visit to Saimin Says and I will be back for sure…read more Super convenient location close to the on ramp to State Route 167 and just down the street from IKEA. You'll just have to remember that the location is part of the complex of off-white office buildings. Just look for unit# 269 right off S. 41st (you can see it from the street). Now onto the food.... I ordered the Shoyu Chicken and the Mochiko Chicken combo which comes with white rice and their Mahi Mahi Salad which was so nice and creamy. Everything was very flavorful, portion size was good and presentation was nice. The owner had just made fresh malasadas so I ordered a couple chocolate ones -- so good! Fluffy goodness! Haha! I plan to try the other flavors on my next visit! There is some seating inside but had to get back to work so took my order to go. They have two menu "binders" with photos and descriptions. I had fun looking at all of the entrees, sides and desserts and planning which ones I'll try next! I would definitely recommend them for your Hawaiian and fusion cravings whenever you're in the Renton area. They do catering as well so if you need some tasty, comfort foods for a party or event - it sounds like they would be a great option!

Thus, we found Saimin Says, which was solid. Saimin Says is a Hawaiian eatery, serving all the classic dishes and they even featured some Guam specials. Located in a business strip, the space is on the smaller end for dining in, but they do have tables and chairs set up for such an occasion. And we did notice that most people who were here were getting takeout during the prime lunch hour on a weekday. The menu had a lot to choose from. But as soon as I saw that they had kalua pork loco moco, two of my favorite Hawaiian dishes, I had to get it. The kalua pork was tender and had a smoky flavor to it, and it was delicious on a bed of rice, topped with beef gravy and fried eggs, with that runny yolk. To balance it all out, I added some hot sauce for some kick, which was the way to go. It was a very good dish that did not disappoint. We don't often get Hawaiian food, but eating at Saimin Says made me miss it. If I'm back in the area, I'll have to try their actual namesake, the saimin, which I imagine is comfort food, like any noodle soup dish should be. Glad to have discovered this spot.

We ordered a bacon avocado Benny and my sister ordered a croissant Benny and we decided to share the Madrid crêpe. Pictures are attached and they look like pieces of art and tasted spectacular. I'm giving four stars due to some of the noise of the blenders and the pounding of something in the kitchen made it very hard to talk at times with my sister. But if there was no super loud noises and I couldn't hear my sister talk from across the table. It would've got five stars all day. Other than that great service great food. I'll definitely highly recommend coming back out and checking out.

I will definitely be coming here again! There are a lot of options for food which can be a little overwhelming. However, it is VERY reasonably priced. $15 for a toast is wild but that's how cafes price things everywhere. However, other cafes smear some avocado on toast and add a tomato and charge you $15, here they give you a whole meal with an egg on top, cucumbers and tomatoes, avocado, and more. It actually feels like it's worth your money. The coffee is good even though it's not too unique. I feel like they used to be a specialty coffee shop before they turned to the crepe/cafe scene. The coffee was very sweet though so I would highly recommend getting it half sweet. The crepe is good, stuffed well and worth the price. It is obviously sweet as well so it's hard to drink a very sweet coffee with a sweet crepe. The barista was kind and helpful with any questions I had when ordering. There was gentleman with a disability ordering before me and the barista was very patient and kind when taking his order. Seems like they have good people working here, which plays a big role in atmosphere.

My daughter ordered their Chicken Katsu plate and mine was the Kalua Pig plate. My daughter enjoyed the katsu and it was such generous portion. However I didn't enjoy my kalua pork. It had an amazing smokey aroma but the taste was nothing but just salt. The side dishes were very tasty however. At first, I was trying my best to eat it with rice but the salt in the end really got to me. Especially I have high BP, so I decided to let the lady behind the counter know. It was very nice of her to remake it but it was still very salty. By then, I didn't want to eat it anymore. She offered to remake it for the third time as the chef was feeling bad about it. I told her, it's OK. My mouth only tasted salt and I had chucked down so much water including the free drinks she offered. I was already full. My daughter tasted it and said it was OK and told me she would eat my kalua pork and I could have her leftover half of chicken katsu. Tomorrow is New Year's Eve. It will be our dinner if we can't find a restaurant open.
