This company only cares about money. You get crooked toe nails with dirty pedicure tools and then they hound you for a tip. The scrub for the pedicure was so old it's literally shaped to scrubbing heels. I mentioned that the scrub was old and the lady asked if I was talking to her, I repeated myself and she ignored me. Nails done by Jennifer shape was nice and nails lasted. However I will not be returning because most importantly the place is not clean. They do not sterilize or even sanitize equipment (including cuticle cutters!!) between clients. Also I witnessed the two owners sweeping up bits of nail jewelry off the floor with two nail files and returning them back into the container to use on clients. Ugh, went back to try them because they have an excellent selection of nude colors. I got a mani pedi and during the pedicure, the woman cut my big toenail and created an ingrown toenail where none had previously existed. It's terribly painful and quite unnecessary. Grrrr. read more

This was my first and last visit to A1 Nails & Spa. I scheduled an appointment to get my np-chip removed. They filled a bowl with nail polish remover and told me to soak my hands in the bowl. After I removed my hands from the bowl the technician poured the nail polish remover back in the bottle. I commented, you are keeping that? The technician replied yes, we re-use it. This is very unsanitary and disgusting that they re-use remover that a client uses. So, how many clients hands used the same remover that my hands were in? I was so sickened by this and I better not get any type of fungus, etc., from this. Also, while sitting there, the dust build up, and uncleanliness is unacceptable. They do not sterilize or sanitize their equipment. I will never go to this spa again. Huge health hazard!! read more

I went in for a pedicure and was immediately waited on. The pumice stone that the technician used was down to the nub and there was no resistance on it. It was after 6pm I had an important meeting at work the next day, My nail tech was off but I couldn't go to this corporate meeting the next day looking tacky so I googled nearby nail shops A1 popped up I used to go here all the time to get my nails done but I couldn't remember why I stopped going until now, it's been less then a week my nails are lifting and one of my nails broke in half while driving, yes you read it right...DRIVING. I expressed to the nail tech while she was doing them, that she filed my nails too thin she put glue on it and ignored me when trying to tell her about my concerns. Is my third time coming to this place because is near my house. Services I have gotten, no chip manicure, pedicure both great. I can't say the same thing for the waxing service. She waxed my eyebrow and on top she used the blade. I am unhappy with that service. When I got home I noticed she didn't even make an effort to do it nicely by means she didn't give it shape and there was still lots of eyebrow hair. Total disappointment. So five stars for nails. When Making appointments dont trust what time you make it, you are constantly going to get double booked, and they take forever to do my nails, for a full set of acrylics it will take 2-3 hours. They don't have a good variety of dip colors and don't having matching colors. The guy who did my pedi was fine however the rude lady who did my nails proceeded to ask me if I am cutting my REAL nails down. I said no well it's $5 dollars extra. Why TF is it extra if I don't cut my nails? Her response was because my nails are long which my nails WERE NOT that long. Absolutely ridiculous and knew from that point I should not have came to this money hungry shop. Get to the register and I'm asked abt a tip immediately I kno how to write in a tip on the receipt if I choose to. My service was $80 and I left a $7 tip (that she proceeds to ask if it was for 2 ppl). I check my statement today 7/18 and I was charged $167. There is no way I would dare leave a fukn $80 tip for nails that are peeling!!! Yes she put so much top coat on my nails it's peeling off. I will be disputing the charges immediately. It's no wonder they have past due credit card bills laying around on the nail station where customers can see. Would cut my fingers off before I went here again. read more

A1 nails is the absolute bottom of the barrel when it comes to nail salons. I've had two gel manicures and equally poor service both times. I admit the man I had today was far more polite than the woman I had the first time (very rude and clearly in a hurry). They charge $30 for a gel manicure but it's more of a polish change than an actual manicure. No cuticle oil is used, they do minor DRY cuticle removal, but other than that there really is no manicure - nail buffing, under-nail cleaning... You don't even wash your hands during the entire process. And to be completely honest, the salon smells. Not chemically, like a normal spa but like a dirty place. My nail technician literally went outside to smoke while they waited for my previous gel to soak off. They DID NOT wash their hands when they came back in. Needless to say, I'll never return. The only reason I went back a second time is because the owner was very sincere in her apology after the rudeness of the first technician. read more

We went last Friday (a week exactly since being there). We waited for about 45 minutes and it didn't feel busy at all but the workers seemed really rushed. I ended up going with a no-chip manicure and the Lavender Honey pedicure. They didn't try to place any of my friends next to each other (at my normal salon, they'll try their hardest to keep us near eachother). My one friend went first, and was completely done with her French tip gel nails before me and my other friend were even started on. The woman rushed through my no-chip manicure (I get them regularly so I know about the length of time it takes) and on top of that, she didn't really do much cleaning around my nails (taking off dead skin, etc.) no buffing or anything. And, for the first time EVER, my no-chip manicure chipped by WEDNESDAY. That's 5 days after having them done. Now multiple fingers are chipping by day 7... When I sat down for my pedi, she never asked me what kind of pedicure I was getting. So I finally spoke up and said that I wanted the Lavender one (right before she put a different scrub on my legs) and she seemed really confused. So, she went ahead and did the paraffin wax treatment and the lavender scrub...but there were two other steps to the pedicure that she didn't do. I didn't say anything because I at that point knew I wasn't going to return. Please remember that when you offer a B1G1 free deal for the grand opening of your salon, you will bring in MANY new customers. The idea of having this promotion is to give the BEST service you can to be able to bring those new customers back. At the end of the day, all I know is that I value my normal salon much more now. read more

Lots of stations; rarely have to wait. They need to stop speaking their native language to each other in front of their clients. The last time I was there (and it will be the last time) they were carrying on about something. Laughing, etc. The woman next to me even commented that we didn't know what they were laughing about. That is rude and should not continue. Their price list shows that a no chip manicure is $25. They charged me $30 because of the kind of powder they used. What? That's not posted anywhere. Went for the first time last week. My initial experience was positive - very COVID cautious, clean, serene atmosphere. I sat down to get my no-chip and one guy started on my hands but had to leave to tend to another costumer. The owner came and informed I said no problem, thanks for letting me know. Another lady came to work on me. She started cutting and filing my nails down and soaking my fingers again - but the previous guy had already did that so I was a little confused but in hindsight she did a great job at shaping and getting my cuticles so I'm glad she did it again. My personal experience from that point on was pleasant. However, there was a sweet young girl next to me, dropped off by her parent, couldn't be more than 15. They switched her manicurist because her original didn't know how to do what she was asking so the owner had to step in. The owner was NOTHING but RUDE and UNPROFESSIONAL. This sweet girl was trying to make conversation and the owner was short and snippy with her. I felt so bad for the girl. The entire time she was doing the girls nails she was calling other clients on the phone to secure or cancel appointments...I'm sorry you should be giving your attention and focus to your current paying customer. When she wasn't talking on the phone she was talking extremely rudely to other paying customers. Some may go as far as saying yelling at them. I was completely turned off by her lack of professionalism. I swear I heard the owner tell the young girl her name was Amber and then later called herself Jennifer to her "regular" customers. I was not planning on returning because I refuse to support someone that can't treat their customers with respect....especially an innocent young girl; but my no-chip manicure chipped in less than a week and that sealed the deal for me. The place I go to in Homer Glen gave me a no-chip the month before and it literally lasted me 3.5 weeks and I could have probably gotten a months wear if I stayed on top of the aftercare. read more

I've had regular manicures, acrylic overlays, pedicures, no-chip manicures and now dip powder manicures. My nails always look fantastic! I made a yelp account just to post this review. I went into a1 nails (Friday 6/8)after a pretty bad day at work where I needed a wind down, calming, refreshing end to my day. Nothing better than a fresh no chip manicure! I've been to a1 for pedicures before and everything was fine.. nothing too bad; nothing too amazing.. average. I walk in and ask for a no chip, my nail technician came up and took me back to her station. I also work in a hair salon/ day spa/ nail salon so I know what is expected in this industry (touching strangers and working in such close proximities with them) in terms of hygiene and appearance. My tech smelled like heavy dirty cigarette smoke, had greasy hair, and dirty fingernails (under and around beds) and hands and did not wash them or wear gloves before touching my hands. She applied two coats of base and then three coats of color (which she said was a bad color and I shouldn't have picked that brand or shade) and then another two coats of top coat. Only four days later (Tuesday 6/12) almost every nail had lifted at the base and one had already chipped. Giving 4 stars because the manager took me an hour before close and was able to do a full set and pedicure. They closed at 8 and I didn't leave the salon till 915. I didn't feel rushed at all and she really took her time to get my nails done just how I wanted. She also pulled out her phone to show my 1 year old videos while he was fussy! read more

Called for an appointment for same day and was taken care of. First time here and found it clean and bright. Nail tech was friendly and spoke English so I was able to have conversations with her. I never leave reviews, but I felt that this was necessary. One of the worst nail experiences I have ever had. The customer service was terrible, no one was friendly or greeted my friend and I when we walked in. The salon lied about the no chip manicure pricing. On the phone and on a sign in the salon, it said that the price was $20 for a no chip. Before the lady started my nails I asked again to make sure and they changed the price to $30, regardless of the pricing signs that they had. I have never been so uncomfortable in my life. Then the lady did not file my right hand and was not going to put a clear coat of nail polish on my nails before the color. I then asked how much it was for filing/buffing. The lady originally said $5, then changed it to $11 cash only. Even some of the customers were rude and chimed in. I felt personally attacked at this salon. I was being scammed on the spot. My friend was equally uncomfortable and was texting me if we could leave. Then the lady walked up to my friend, bent down and whispered (in front of me) if she needed any help/do they need to call someone to help her as if I was a bad person - all because I was asking questions about their pricing because of how unclear it was. Overall, this is the worst nail salon in my opinion. I was taken advantage of and it was the worst experience I have ever had. If I could give this place no stars, I would. read more
