We ordered takeout and couldn't have had a better experience. I asked for it to be delivered at a specific time And it was right on time. The food was packaged with each dish in a container and labeled with its contents. And the contents were very good. We ate a couple of appetizers and a couple of entrees. Just be aware that the food tends to be spicy. We should have ordered one level lower than we did. Overall, the food was tasty and well prepared. read more

Was not disappointed. Their Khao Soi was delectable. Only wish I would have not listened to the hot spicy amateurs who claimed they were very spicy and to take it down a notch. I typically order Thai Spicy, which sets your tongue and stomach on fire, but only because of years of Tex Mex food and love for food hot and spicy. If you want Thai Spicy, ask for it, their heat level is norm for typical Thai restaurants, at least ones I am used to. I ordered one down from Thai spicy, but next time will ask for Thai spicy. Either way it was excellent. Their spin on the Thai spring rolls with quinoa, was pleasant, as was their peanut sauce. I will say their Khao Soi was a little different than my favorite from Madam Mams in Austin, TX, but it was still a treat. Will go back again, next time I am there. Oh, and I forgot to mention that Stone Brewery has a nice little spot right next to this place. How perfect can it get to sample some awesome San Diego Micro Brew out on the patio while waiting for your table at a truly authentic Thai restaurant. The only down side was the 5 block walk home, because it rained, but I didn't mind considering I had a container of their Crab Fried Rice to go, which was the best, and rain was so much more pleasant in March than Albany snow! read more

There is very little I can say about this place other than if you love Thai food, you must go here. This place is kind of out-of-the-way for me because I live in East County. Did I order from the same place as this reviewers? The drunken noodles were overcooked, stuck together, and were missing any sauce at all. They were completely tasteless. My green salmon curry tasted gritty and the salmon was completely overcooked. I like almost all green curries - sweeter ones, tangier ones.. etc. I couldn't eat more than a few bites. The chicken naan lacked any flavor, though the meat was good quality. The sate and the mango with sticky rice were okay. Finally, the larb was a 3.5 - nice flavorings but no salad was included. I've been here a few times, first time getting the Khao Soi and second time getting the Pad See Ew and both times I have been underwhelmed. Either their flavors are different since they tend to focus on Northern Thai flavors or something but both times, the taste was very underwhelming in terms of what I had expected when I placed the order. The flavor profile that I mainly got in both dishes were their use of spice (in terms of spiciness) that overtook the rest of the flavors I was expecting (even when ordering the dishes mild). The place can get crowded with people coming to grab lunch and ordering to-go so if you can, I'd try not to hit the crowd or call in an order beforehand. Read some rave reviews, so thought I'd head in for a meal. I arrived just as they opened, so I was the only patron. When I asked for a table to one, the server looked at me a bit disdainfully and told me to sit at the bar. While a few people came in for takeout during my meal, not another soul dined in - there was no need for her to banish me to an uncomfortable bar stool and all the kitchen noise. Plunging ahead, I ordered my two standards; if a restaurant does well on those I'm happy both to return and sing their praises. My "fresh roll" (spring roll) arrived quickly, and looked beautiful. They were a little low on flavor, but the texture was good, so I eagerly added a little of the peanut sauce (the real reason to eat Thai spring rolls). It was...awful. Grainy, broken, and didn't taste even slightly of peanut. On to the Tom Ka soup with chicken. I'd ordered it spicy, and it definitely was - no need for the tray of spices/sauces most Thai places have and AAHARN was lacking. The broth itself was lovely - smooth and flavorful. But the contents disappointed. The chicken was overcooked and poorly cut, with tiny bits and huge unmanageable pieces. The mushrooms hadn't been cut at all, leaving them too large for a spoon as well. And there was cabbage in the soup - I've eaten Tom Ka at dozens of places, and this is the first time I've encountered cabbage in it. It didn't add anything and quickly became slimy as it sat in broth. I ate about half of each dish and that was all I could take. read more

Finally! A good Thai place in downtown... what a great plus since it's literally 2 blocks from my workplace. Warning: it's REAL Thai spice, not American spicy.... meaning a medium is pretty damn spicy. I love spice and I totally got a great kick in my mouth when I got the full level of spice on the Tom yum soup. It was delicious though. I went down a spice level (medium) for the green curry, and it was the right level of spice. Still a good kick in your mouth. Portions were generous for downtown and the price. I ordered takeout through Grubhub during when they were closed for a couple hours before dinner. So Grubhub stated it would be ready between 4:45-5:05. I think they re-open at 4:30. Anyway, I arrived just a couple of minutes after 4:45 and my food was packaged up perfectly and ready to go. The packaging was gorgeous, and the food was delicious. I ordered the red curry with veggies and tofu, and the chicken larb. I will order again from here when I am in town next time. read more

Between the 3 of us, we ordered: - $5 Wine (we got the Cotes Du Rhone Red Blend) - $5 Happy Hour Gyoza - $5 Happy Hour Calamari - Red Curry with Mock Duck - This dish also had Thai Eggplant in it!! Woot Woot!! I ordered "mild" for my Red Curry dish and it came out more "medium" - which is what my significant other usually orders at other restaurants when we eat out together. - Massamun Curry with Pork Shank - there were 2 pork shanks in there... meaty!! My friend ordered this dish as a (2 out of 10 on the spice scale) and that came out more "mild". - Salmon Fried Rice (baked Atlantic Salmon steak with sweet soy sauce and garlic fried rice) - the fish was a little too cooked for my preference but was definitely very fresh!! - Tapioca Dessert - this dessert was licked clean!! I'm pleasantly surprised, small place with only seven tables. Very clean and well lit, not overpowering. The quality of the food after my first visit. We had the Lamb shank in curry sauce with carrots and potatoes. The meat was excellent cooked and perfect seasoned, tender, fell of the bone. Yellow curry with chicken, fantastic as well with just the right amount of spice for medium with the right kick. Service, excellent too and not pushy, just right we attendance when needed. Satay- cooked SO tough, you really had to grind your teeth to rip it off the skewer. My husband never complains but even he said it was hard as jerky. The peanut sauce was more like a CURRY sauce. Meh.. Drunken noodles- too dry/sticky, like when you dont stir as the noodles are boiling, or maybe because it lacked any sauce. Thankfully the chicken in this entree was fine but the bell peppers & basil were mediocore, reminded me of a frozen dinner. We asked for mild and it was too spicy, it ruined the dish for me. Coming from LA County, I have so much respect for Thai food and the wide range of diff ingredients they utilize to create a burst of flavor in each bite.. this place was lacking, did not taste authentic at all. THAI food.. in the area of Little Italy a little off of the main grid. *Aaharn* is easy to find with its signage along with ample parking nearby on the side streets. The menu has a good selection although a little bit of a limited variety with some of the typical noodle dishes I would normally get at other restaurants. They have happy hour on appetizers and wine until 7pm which is a plus for those who get off work later as other restaurants HH specials typically end at 6pm. I tried the Gyoza and Calamari to start off dinner and both were equally appetizing. As for entrees the Red Curry had a delicious spice along with scrumptious thai eggplant. My meal was the Salmon which came out delayed?!?... but was definitely delightful. It comes with veggies and garlic fried rice.. so overall a simple and yet perfect meal for what I was craving. Was at Stone brewery having a refreshing beverage and noticed that AAHARN delivers right to the table using your phone . Pretty convenient so we ordered some apps and pad thai. I was careful to order mild because I didn't want it clashing with my beer. That didn't work out so well. The pad thai that arrived was medium if you consider thai food is already spicy and hot if you think normally. They offered to cook it again but I doubt that would have mattered as damage was kind of done. read more

I'm here visiting San Diego and was looking for a Thai place to eat that was walking distance. I came across Aaharn and the pictures looked good so I thought I'd give it a try. I got there and was greeted and got sat down. The place was quiet and it was only my boyfriend and I and another costumer at the time. I looked at the menu and first thing I noticed was there wasn't any papaya like I seen on Yelp which was disappointing. I don't play about my papaya! Lol. I ordered the wagyu boat noodle, garden spring rolls, and applewood spareribs. From those three dishes, it was lacking authentic Thai flavors for me personally. The boat noodle didn't have the thickness and richness from the blood that I'm used too. The garden rolls came with a curry flavored peanut sauce that I wasn't mad at. It was different but it was good. The spareribs didn't look like the pic and just wasn't for me. Overall I just always have high expectations for Thai restaurants and this place wasn't for me. We visited AAHARN By Koon Thai for dinner and it was a solid spot. Located in Little Italy in an office and apartment space at the retail level, it was easy to find, and the place on a Friday night was pretty busy. Fortunately, we were able to find a table. My boyfriend and I ended up ordering the Larb, Panang Curry with Pork Shank and Ginger Fish. Portion for everything was good for the both of us. Of the three dishes I enjoyed the panang curry with pork shank the best. In fact, our server was the one who recommended the pork shank for protein instead of the chicken I was planning to order it with, as she mentioned it was a crowd favorite. I could see why, too, after trying it. Pork shank was tender, juicy and loved that the bone was still on for the extra flavor. And there were two pork shanks in the panang curry! Lots of protein. Panang curry had a thick texture, from the coconut milk and chunky veggie pieces with, which is how I like my curry. It was good, especially over a heap of rice. The larb and ginger fish were also good selections, and complemented the panang curry well, since they were lighter plates to a thick curry entree. Larb had a good amount of lime flavor with fresh cucumbers. And the ginger fish was a huge portion, with two fish filets, in a light broth and ginger. Light, aromatic and tasty. Customer service was fantastic here. Despite how busy the restaurant was, service was never compromised. Multiple servers checked in with us, making sure all was well. We were visiting San Diego for a conference for work and checked this place out for lunch. We had about an hour and 40 minutes and were able walk to and from the restaurant and enjoy a relaxed lunch. I ordered the massaman curry which came with potatoes, carrots, broccoli, tofu, and amazing curry sauce; so good I finished the curry like a soup. A companion ordered the avocado curry which was also fantastic, another person ordered a chicken dish which was basically a half of a roasted chicken with rice. And somebody else ordered the red curry. We all enjoyed our meals. I also really enjoyed their Thai iced tea which was one of the best I've had. It was funny it was served in a pint glass. I've eaten here three times now. Twice in person a year apart and once ordered take out. Both times eating in I ordered the ginger fish. Both times fantastic. Quality fresh ingredients. Very generous portions. Friendly, competent staff. Clean restaurant. They have a very busy lunch time crowd so they move pretty fast. Coconut soup and spring rolls were very fresh. Tasty. Ordered in and had green curry. I was surprised how appetizing it looked compared to other places I've tried. Again, fresh quality ingredients well prepared. It seems they also take quite a bit of care preparing the food for delivery. Food containers were wrapped in cellophane to keep it warm and prevent spilling. Chicken satay was aromatic and delicious. I'm really impressed with Aahran. They are my new regular. One thing... whatever your normal spice level request is, back off a bit here. When they say spicy they mean spicy. read more

I placed a to-go order online (and paid) at 7:22PM on Friday. My receipt (see image) said it would be ready for pick up at 7:36PM. I got an email saying the restaurant hadn't approved my order for over 5 minutes. Once I actually got there, my order wasn't ready until 7:57PM. That's 20 minutes extra time of me waiting. FYI it wasn't even extremely busy. I only saw a few customers pick up orders while I was there. Second issue, I asked for FRIED TOFU in both of my orders. I was given regular cut up pieces of tofu. Was it good? No. Their food was extremely disappointing and I won't be coming back a second time. I'm a regular at Koon Thai, so I'm sad to say AAHARN is not up to par as Koon Thai. read more

I picked up food from here while in San Diego for work. I got the veggie rolls with the peanut sauce (4.5/5), the drunken noodles (3/5), and the pa nang curry (4/5). The drunken noodles were kind of dry, it seemed like there was not enough sauce and the noodles were sticking together. The pa nang curry was very good, although I was bold with my spicy level which made it hard to consume a lot of it at once. I would air in the side of caution here when it comes to the level of spicy. read more

Been wanting to check out this tie spot in little Italy for a while and finally got the chance after doing a floats. The business is inside of A building with a few different suiets and other businesses. We had a few of the traditional Thai dishes and one was a northern style Thai soup that was very good as well as the panang curry that we got with mock duck. They have a great selection of food here and a really good happy hour menu. Parking might be hard to find they do have a parking Garage that's close by. Food tastes good, but is definitely way overpriced. Ordered Fresh Roll shrimp and ginger fish with white rice to go. Was in a hurry so did not get a chance to check what they put inside. White/ jasmine rice was missing, and I had no clue how they charged 16$ for the ginger fish, when in the menu they say it's 11$. If I add jasmine rice extra (which was missing though) it sums up to 13$, not 16$. I am not from the San Diego area so, very unlikely that I will visit AAHARN ever again. This classy little place serves some very rich tasting Thai food that comes beautifully prepared! I love Thai & this place really impressed me in a lot of ways. The Tom Ka soup was some of the best I've ever had which is saying something because I love that spicy, sweet, tangy, coconut flavor and have tried all over SD & here it was the best **must try!! The service was fantastic, they play relaxing music in the background, you'd expect to pay more but the place is very reasonable. I'm really happy to find this place & its less than a mile from my house. It's located off Kettner so parking can be tricky.. I rode my electric skateboard I will be back again & definitely recommend this place to friends + yelpers. I'm looking forward to trying more menu options soon, very soon. I love this Thai place, it's a small little corner next to Stone tasting room. There was one lady working all by herself, taking care of the dining area as well as all the to go orders. This place was fantastic! I am a big fan of Thai cuisine, and have been to many Thai locations, but this Mussaman curry was something special. The sauce was balanced with the perfect ratio of sweet and savory flavors, and was packed full of fresh vegetables. Drizzled on top were roasted peanuts, literally pan roasted. The dish came with a mountain of rice. Chicken satay complimented my meal perfectly, provided with a sweet and thick peanut sauce. The satay was also very tasty dipped in the mussaman curry sauce. The ambiance of the retaurant was nice with candles on every table. Very clean and friendly along with quick service. I will be returning as soon as I visit San diego again! read more
