I was impressed by this business, even after hearing some bad things about it from a friend. Not this particular location, but Aamco in general. The clutch plate went out in mom's car. We took it to Firestone after she reported a weird noise to me. Weird noise turned out to be a wheel bearing or something ridiculously simple. But the mechanic found it wasn't shifting correctly. So small problem turned way bigger. My brother and I took it to Aamco the following day, after we drove it and the problem got much worse. Dropped it off and waited. We spoke to a manager? Not sure his title, but his name was Michael. He dealt with both my brother and I on the phone together, and was perfectly happy to do so. Michael explained things in great detail, was super patient with questions, and was quite professional. Transmissions are a very labor intensive job, so it took a couple days just to find the problem. Once it was found, it was fairly easy to fix as far as transmissions go, and recommended diverting from the factory settings for something. I forget exactly what it was called, but the point of it was to try and protect from having this problem occur again in the future. Makes good sense to me, especially given this is a high performance engine. This was not a cheap visit, by any near means or stretch of the imagination. Again, labor intensive project. So a week and several thousand dollars later, we had the car back. Michael met with both my brother and me to discuss it, gave instructions to bring it back in a few weeks to double check things. Normally it's 10-ish days, but since mom rarely drives it past going to work, he said like 6 weeks. I told him it would be me bringing it back. I was absolutely impressed by Michael's customer service, patience with questions, attention to detail, ability to stick to a schedule and deliver what he had promised. My mother is a senior citizen, so my brother always asks about a senior discount, which Michael gave us. Mom rarely has anything to do with her car work, as my brother and I deal with it, but at the end of the day, she's still the owner of the car and a senior. Some places will fight us on this, saying she has to be there, or just try to totally avoid if, but Michael just automatically took care of it, understanding we do these things for her to make life easier on her. Would I return? Absolutely! I would highly recommend it for everyone. I don't know enough about transmissions to compare prices, but the level of service given for the price was worth it. I honestly hope we never have this problem again, but if it does occur in any of our vehicles, I will bring it here. read more

Although I appreciate the free inspection, I wasted an entire day waiting for them to do it. I brought it in with a concerning noise that I can hear over 45MPH and they said they didn't hear it. When I asked if they drove it at faster speeds they said they went no more than 30MPH and will just have to try again, this was after they had it for 6 hours already.They had my car for 9 hours total and ended up saying there's debris in my wheels that need cleaned out 'but they don't really know' so wanted me to cough up $400 for a diagnostic fee to 'really figure it out' and kept saying they just didn't get enough time with the car and needed more time. When I asked how much time they said the diagnostic is about 2 hours. So I'm not entirely sure what they were doing for the 8+ hours it was there. They danced around the issues and I never even got updated about my vehicle. I had to call them during the day multiple times to figure out if anything was getting done before I picked it up. No communication and no real urgency and care towards the issue. The service wasn't friendly and they all act like they have better things to do. I can go to the dealership for the same free inspection and a $180 diagnostic fee that actually goes towards the price of repair, and they're guaranteed friendly! This was far from my favorite service at any mechanic and I will not be returning. read more

This aamco rebuilt a transmission that is in a truck I purchased. Transmission was rebuilt at 118k miles, bought the truck with 119k miles and the truck currently has 123,500 miles. The transmission is no longer good after only 5,500 miles. Warranty will not cover anything since it transferred ownership. One star for quality of work. read more

Do not trust this shop ,they will gouge you ,They will not give you a straight forward answer ,instead they will try they need to see vehicle.They would not give me a answer on flag time(profesional req. time) that all repair shop use to establish $. After calling another shop ,I was given a flag time of 7.7 hr.s . Do not trust any shop that will not give you a basic flag time for repairs!!!!! We recently had a clutch replacement done at Aamco Springfield. This was the first time using their service and we were super impressed! It can be stressful trying to decide where to get your car repaired because you want to feel like it's someone who is honest and that you can trust to get the work done right. Devon and his team communicated with us regularly, and promptly if things changed. Each time I called, they were readily available to speak to me about our car. They were more than fair with us on price and options. We didn't feel pressured at all. We were able to have our car towed directly to the shop and they kept it behind locked gates while it was there. We were surprised that they got us right in and had the repair done quickly and professionally, and for less than their original quote! This will definitely be our new go to repair shop for all of our family's vehicles. read more

I am totally DONE with AMMCO!! Had a very long frustating experience with this shop with my transmission in a 1998 Jeep. First visit it was diagnosed needing tranny mounts so I had them replaced. 3 months later I took it in because of a growl, grinding noise. They determined it needed a rebuilt tranny. It took 12 days and cost 3800. It still had a growl so in it went again and they redid the planetary gears. I would think that should have been done in the rebuild. This took 16 days. It still had a growl but I was told the gears would take some time to wear in. After 2 months my check engine light showed a tranny issue and still a bad growl so they then said it had shavings and needed a whole new case, the flex plate was warped (which was from them or not checked the first time) so another rebuild. This trip was 11 days in shop. The final straw was after one 40 mile trip there was a ticking noise in the tranny area. It still had the growl in reverse also. I took it in and they put it on the lift and with a screwdriver bent the crank shaft sensor bracket, it was hitting the flex plate. Still had the ticking noise and growl. I took it to another tranny shop and the parts they pulled out and replaced were chewed up, wrong size spacers, old burnt parts and some that should not have been in there. I called and asked for 2000 that it took to fix and of course was denied. I would not take my jeep back to these people for any reason warranty or not!!!!!! read more

At this point, you couldn't pay me to go somewhere else. Won't go too into depth about my car's problem, but to sum it up: Check engine light, code saying torque converter problems. Brought it in for the courtesy check, they drove it, ran a deeper code, drove it again, symptoms went away after light manually turned off. They checked tranny fluid, and gave me some advice as far as that, a solenoid, and told me if the symptoms come back, bring it back in (courtesy check, so ALL FREE!). Symptoms did indeed come back, but no light, and they were gone the day I drove it home. Called them back, they explained some possibilities and told me to bring it back in for another courtesy check. Holy moly these people are awesome. I'm going to take it in for the second courtesy check today, and I will either drive away for free once they manually turn off some code triggered by an electrical problem, or pay an already explained and very reasonable amount for the 2 problems/solutions they think it may be. These folks are honest and worked very quickly to get the Jeep back on the road. It's not common any longer to get reliable, honest work anymore and we couldn't be more pleased. The Transmission Angels is more like it. I popped into a dealership when my engine light came on. They charged me $113 to tell me it was probably a selinoid in the tranny but to confirm, it would be $830 for further diagnostics. I took my car into AAMCO where they were extremely friendly and helpful. Squashing my fears it would break the bank to fix. I had my car back a day later, running perfectly and ready for more adventures. AAMCO is the place to go when you need your car taken care of without a lot of hoops to jump through. read more

Rebuild my 1983 S10 very quick like one day. They didn't check all over transmission. it still have some problem, I explain about this issues twice and ask for take check, but they just drive and still think no problem. They won't get serious deep check all over or won't tell truth. Sound like avoid to fix. read more

Be aware!! New visit August 2020. This place is unknowledgable, dishonest, and will tack on charges that are ridiculous. Mike contradicts himself, lies, and does not know what works and what does not. He gave me a quote, then put all these extra charges on my bill. They put a clutch in that was faulty 2 years ago, and 13,000 miles later it failed. So we came back to them last week to figure out what was going on. We knew the clutch had failed and we were going to need a new one. (after only 13,000 miles). They did not give any compensation to us for this. He had no clue what to do, and told us that they weren't sure what was wrong yet. My husband and I did all the research to get the right clutch for our diesel truck. We bought the clutch, picked it up, delivered it with all the right parts. Then he thought we had the wrong hydraulics, we did not. When I went back he then told me They put that same clutch in another truck the other day. If that is true, why did he think the hydraulics were wrong? It just kept getting worse. Mike then, charged me for putting the clutch in which was $50.00 over the quote he gave me. No big deal, I can live with tnat. But then he charged me for putting in each piece of the clutch, which ended up being another $385.00. What part of clutch price does not include the pieces of the actual clutch? Then Mike was also supposed to fill out the warranty with the mechanics license number and did not. So we had to drive back in to get it, and instead of the number he just wrote Aamco. . This place was recommended to us and we will never use them again. There are better places around and I highly advise you to stay clear of this place. read more

Aamco Transmission in Springfield is very accommodating, and honest. When I saw my oil light come on periodically, I figured I had a month for an oil change and thought I would top it off. I accidently poured motor oil into the 'ATF only.' I then realized I made a huge mistake. I called Aamco and spoke with Mike. He quickly had my car setup for service. He called and said the oil had been placed in the power steering fluid, not the transmission. Thankfully, the cost to flush was half the cost, and no damage to the transmission. First vacation in ages and my transmission goes out along the way. I had the tow truck drop us at Aamco without even calling them first and they took us right in (We rented a car nearby and continued on our trip). Even though all of their stalls were full, they did a complete rebuild in just a matter of days. 2011 I was a student in college and brought my car in just to get it "checked out" before driving it all the way to Florida for spring break. I talked with a few employees during that visit, but being a few years ago hard to remember names, although one of them was the shop manager I do remember. They told me that my transmission was about to go out, any minute. I specifically remember him saying that he was 100% sure I wouldn't make it past Cincinatti (from dayton) if I didn't replace it right away. They quoted me 3500 bucks. That's a lot for a student. I took it to a trusted family mechanic and he didn't see any of the issues with the transmission that they did, and told me to watch it closely (and don't drive it to Florida) over the next few months and let him know if anything seemed off (nothing did while driving it at the time). Anyways, here's to putting an additional 75000 miles on it the last 6 years and not a SINGLE transmission (or any mechanical) issue. These guys are CROOKS. Not to be trusted. Kind of makes me angry I'm sure they saw I was young and thought they could make money off of it. The shop manager made it sound like to me that I would pretty much die by driving it another mile, LOL. What a tool. read more
