This was a nice place to stop in Bishop. I had the Hot Shot burger and it was very tasty. So many wonderful flavors mixed together. We round the ribs to be a bit tough (get stuck in your teeth tough) but they were well seasoned and we DID finish them. The kids liked their food as well. Definitely there are a lot of positives about this place. They overcook everything, so order your steak/burger below what you would normally want-- fingers crossed. Turkey sandwich is good despite turkey being dry -- go figure. Milkshakes are a solid, and they actually season their sweet potato fries, which isn't a guarantee even in the big city. The Schat businesses in Bishop are absolutely amazing! Aaron Schat's roadhouse has everything you need for good American eats. My favorites were the rotisserie chicken and the potato salad. The rice and bean combo that came with my meal made me feel at home. The service is very chill. Walk up and order. Everyone was honest and nice. Not quite a 5 star, but definitely on the plus side of 4 stars. We tried here because the brother's restaurant down the street is always busy. Not sure why they weren't busy, but we will definitely be coming back as we pass through Bishop. We had a couple of good sandwiches with really large portions. I didn't try the onion rings, but saw someone else's and will definitely try them...along with the chili cheese fries. Service was good (even for self-serve). They kept the tables clean and it was a good atmosphere. (Big screen TV with football on. Wouldn't mind being there for the live music it appears they have available at night.) read more

As a well-known name in Bishop, the expectations are pretty high for this place. After a week spent backpacking, I really wanted a burger so I ordered the Bluey Armstrong with fries and a salad and fountain drink. The sign above the kitchen says their burgers are cooked medium and juicy, and it is definitely true! Perfectly cooked beef, great fries and a choice of Coke and other special drinks made for an excellent meal. The burger might be a little too juicy for some, once you start eating may drip onto your plate. I will certainly come back again when in town. Man I've been here twice. The first time is what brought me back. The cashier was full of joy and the food was insanely delicious. This time was a whole different story. I ordered the same exact meal as last time and boy was it bad!! Ribs and chicken combo was like they left it out for days. It was super dry and hard. It was so disgusting. The beans they gave were so dry you can pick em up and throw them like rocks. I'm just disappointed I left a tip... They ask for a tip before you even get your food. What a surprise! Where's that awesome service I got in February??? You guys have to do better because that food was unacceptable. 70 dollar meal and McDonald's down the street has better meat. Finding ourselves unexpectedly in Bishop today around 1:00 pm, we decided lunch at a Schat's family restaurant would be a good choice. We love the bakeries/delis, and have been to all of them at least once. Sorry, Aaron Schat, your Roadhouse was, sadly, a disappointment. Walking in through the old Pizza Hut front door was the first clue. Sticky floors were second. Next, we walked up to a counter with a stack of limp, greasy laminated menu sheets that were difficult to read. Feeling the pressure of more diners waiting in line behind us, we ordered as quickly as we could, took a number on a stick, and found ourselves a sticky table. Now the food... 1/2 rotisserie chicken: dry breast, decent dark meat, bland black beans, passable rice, dry & hard tortillas. Barbecue beef sandwich: tasty beef with generic bbq sauce. Bland potato salad in dire need of salt. Azz kicker beef sandwich: nice bun, tasty beef. Took eating half before I got to the horseradish. Served with Au Jus... why? Serve yourself soda fountain and utensils. Overall: sticky, bland & unimaginative. Sorry again, Schat's family... this one is a no go for me. read more

This was our first time dinning at this establishment. It was a Sunday evening and there was a line to the door. The young lady (with multicolored hair) taking orders was personality plus. She was friendly and polite and moved the line along in a timely manner while still answering any questions about the menu. We shared a pulled pork sandwich choosing the potato salad for our side, a basket of fries and each of us had a dinner salad and drink. Our food came out and the portions were substantial. I'm glad we shared as I was quite full when I finished my meal. On this particular day there were many employees working and I can honestly say everyone of them was polite and courteous, asking if everything was fine and if anything was needed. The dining room was spacious and clean offering tables or booths. A good mix of music was being played and there were monitors with sporting events being shown. I assume they have live music as there was a small stage with speakers and mics. I will definitely patronize Aaron Schat's Roadhouse again and recommend it to anyone desiring a tasty meal. Stopped by for lunch on the way back home from CA. Wasn't super impressed with the customer service, as the lady who took our order didn't greet us with a single word other than "hi". We have our orders one by one, she was very short and monotone the entire time. Didn't smile or show an ounce of enthusiasm whatsoever. Shrugged it off, paid the tab and went and sat down a little disappointed to be honest. When the food showed up, which was in eye-popping time, faster than McDonald's it seemed, we were blown away. However, the girl who served us, different from the one who took the order, was also not very pleasant. I asked for some BBQ sauce and ranch, and she replied with a snarky tone "how many do you need"? Looking at our plates after she left, all four of us let out a "wow" at the same time. Food was awesome! Burgers were absolutely perfect. Just what you hope for when you go to a "burger joint". If you're traveling through, and feel like a burger, make sure to stop by. We decided to stop by here on our road trip based on the reviews. Best decision ever!! Food was outstanding and so good! The wife and I were asked how things were by Ben, and we told him we were coming back on our way home. The ranch hand wrap was outstanding as was my walker ranger burger, but next time I am getting the wrap. Onion rings, fries and ribs were great too! Potato salad was the best I've had out. Well I wanted Texas BBQ during my stay in Bishop but alas, I was there the one day it was closed. I gave ASR a shot based on the reviews, and received one of the most disappointing meals I've had in some time. Usually when I hear "roadhouse" I picture Patrick Swayze walking around on sawdust. But this place is actually very clean and modern inside. The staff is also very friendly and packaged my order well. As for the ribs, they come dry so you can add the desired amount of sauce, but as a result, they still tasted super dry. They have a lot of different spices and seasonings for a bit of a kick, bu though there was a lot of flavor, they lacked identity. The sauce was ok but lacked volume. My teeth were no match for this meat. Don't order the ribs if you have a loose chomper or visited the dentist recently. They were extremely difficult to cut apart with a knife too. Tough, fatty, dry, chewy - take your pick of adjectives, they were just plain blah. The exact opposite of "fall off the bone" - I could barely rip the meat off of these bones. In terms of sides, you get a scoop of potato salad with a bunch of random chopped greens. Bravo, it actually tasted like potato. You also get a scoop of BBQ beans, which were a little too spicy and runny for my liking. I basically paid almost $25 (including a medium drink and tip) for a stomach ache and didn't even finish the meal. My Coke was the highlight. Their burgers looked ok to the naked eye, but definitely skip the ribs, and don't trust the 4 stars without delving deeper. read more

They have a bunch of different sandwiches, wraps, burgers, etc. and I ended up getting the Miss Piggy (ham sandwich) half size with a side of fries.
