So disappointed. Dr. Wicks has been my dentist for the last few years. The office is clearly going through some kind of transition, and they aren't being transparent about it. I've had 3 appointments cancelled over the last year. Was told after the first cancellation that they were trying to figure out what was going on with the office and they would only be opened on weekends now. Scheduled an appointment on the weekend for a few weeks later this summer, showed up, and no one was there. Waited for about 30 min, and ultimately left. Tried to schedule an appointment for this month and was excited to return after going to a different dentist and having a poor experience with billing. I get a call from some other dentist there who was kind of curt and told me that they had to cancel my appointment. No reason was given other than they weren't sure when they would be back in the office. I tried to reschedule and was told there were no appointments available. I inquired why, and she told me for the reasons she stated: they were unsure when they would be returning to the office. So disappointed in this office. Dr. Wicks was my favorite dentist until now. Great bedside manner and very informative. Couldn't bring myself to give the office a 1-star review given that my experiences up until this year have been great. I wish there was transparency on what is actually going on with the office, but it doesn't matter now as I'm on the hunt for a new dentist, again. :( read more

I gave 2 stars bexause my cleaning back in 2020 was amazing. Since then I have been unable to schedule an appointment. I have called to schedule appointments twice in the last 4 weeks. The receptionist not scheduling the first appointment seemed like an honest lapse in communication. The second time, it seemed like they just didn't care. Both times I called on the day of my appointment to confirm. Not only was the receptionist not yet in, the doctor had no idea that I was scheduled to arrive (after 4 attempted calls). After giving valuable information over the phone (like my social security number) twice, I don't know why I wasn't just asked for my health insurance information. I am not coming back because the receptionists are beyond inadequate. I no longer trust this business and that is very unfortunate. read more

I truly hate to write a bad review, but please DO NOT GO HERE. I mean from the major discomfort I felt while in the chair to the rude front desk, I just would not recommend. The cleaning was done well enough, but I cringed from discomfort the whole time. This has never happened to me and I've gotten a lot of dental work in my time. I want a dentist who gets the job done well, but also makes sure I'm serene while the work is being done. Then there's SOME of the front desk workers. I called to request my X- Rays. I ask can I have them sent to me while I wait on the phone. The lady says, "No, I'm busy right now". Ok, she takes my info and I never get the X-Rays. I call back at a later day for the X-Rays. The woman I speak to is pleasant, but still takes my info and doesn't e-mail the X-rays. I call again today and let the woman I'm speaking to know I've already called multiple times so please send the X-rays today. She tells me they're behind because of covid. When I mention that I've been calling prior to covid she says, "Well, that has nothing to do with me because today is my first day. So, that information is useless". I hung up. They can just keep the X-rays. I'll pay out of pocket for the new dentist to handle it. So sad because it meant a lot to me to go to a Black dentist in my neighborhood. JAW DROPPING AWFUL. The pinnacle of GARBAGE healthcare. I would rate negative stars if I could. I am astounded and blown away as to how terrible my dentist visit was from start to end. Allow me to detail the whole experience. I decided to visit Dr. Wicks for a standard cleaning and checkup. I live in the neighborhood and wanted to visit a doctor in the community. Despite some (very) poor reviews, I trusted the more positive ones and Dr. Wicks' on-paper credentials. His website looked legitimate and welcoming. It also said that new patients need to show up 20 minutes early, and so I showed up 20 minutes early for my 9 am appointment. I arrive and immediately wonder if I am in the wrong place. I double check and I'm not. It appears that the building is shut and I am simply just confused. I wait till 9 am, and a front desk lady shows up to unlock the place. I tell her that I have a 9 am appointment as does another woman. We all enter the dentist office and it is absolutely freezing. The other woman and I wait and are eventually asked to fill out paperwork. Mind you, it is past 9 am already. At about 9:10 am other staff arrive and then the dentist Dr. Wicks arrives LATE, past the time his office has scheduled TWO appointments. I am bewildered at that point. The other lady gets called first so I remain waiting till 9:45 am! The wait was unnecessarily too long and I am amazed as to how little this dentist office cares about its patients and their time. I am about to leave but my name is finally called. The office is freezing and I have to take off my coat to get my x-rays. Afterwards I immediately put on my coat and have to wait again for the cleaning and Dr. Wicks to visit. Dr. Wicks finally shows up and stays for about only two minutes. Dr. Wicks does not even realize that he has a new patient until he glances quickly through the papers I filled out. He says my teeth are fine and tries to rush off even though I have questions. I am only able to ask him one question and he rushes off - as if I'm taking up so much of his time - and I had no opportunity to even ask my second question. I would possibly understand if he had to rush off to many more patients, but there weren't any! Dr. Wicks had the absolute worst bedside manner I have ever experienced from a healthcare professional (and I thought I had already seen the worst healthcare in NYC). The (Spanish speaking) dental hygienist arrives; I try to talk to her but to no avail. The cleaning that she does is the worst one I have ever had. Usually you leave the dentist with super clean feeling teeth...I still had plaque left in mine. She lazily scrapes and scrubs for a little bit but when it was time to get towards the back of my teeth, she just stopped all together and did not even clean all of them!! She did not do flossing either, which is standard practice at every dentist office I have been to! To make the whole matter even worse, the water she used to rinse my mouth was SO cold that it pained my teeth. The front desk lady said she had brought me some warmer water but that was entirely false. The icing on top was that I did receive a free toothbrush. Usually the dentist gives you a toothbrush that they stand by. I, however, got a toothbrush that costs $1 for six brushes! It was a garbage wal-mart toothbrush. I left the office in shock and anger. The front desk ladies tried to get me to schedule my next appointment, but that was definitely not happening. So much of my time was wasted for a garbage dentist experience. Since this is how Dr. Wicks treats his uptown Harlem community patients and is the embodiment of unprofessionalism, I will never be returning. TLDR: My experience was AWFUL, the poorest medical experience I have ever had. Run from this dental office and take your business elsewhere. Dr. Wicks and his office embody the worst qualities of unprofessionalism. read more

Honestly can't tell if this dentist is good or not because the receptionist are so unprofessional that I decided not to make an appointment. 1st one gave me an attitude regarding whether or not I have insurance after I repeatedly said I do have dental insurance she asks me "how do you know" . Then I get to give her insurance she tells me she'll verify and call me back. 3 days later no call back. I double check with my insurance just in case and call the office again, this time I get a different person. All I hear is the radio and her voice somewhere in the background as she has me on speakerphone. When I tell her I cannot hear her she sighs picks up the phone and after I inform her about previous events ask me for my SSN instead of my Insurance ID. After giving it two her twice and her still not being able to get the numbers right I let her know to "forget it". read more

First off I have no idea whether this dentist is really any good or not because his front office staff seems completely incompetent and couldn't even make an appointment for me. Well, I take that back, they made the appointment, and proceeded to take my information in order to verify my information so that I could even have an appointment. Reasonable enough, so I gladly gave her my insurance (nothing unusual there) and we hung up and I went on my merry way. I had an appointment, she had her inner office paper-work in order. Done! Or so I thought. A day later I got a call back from this same woman who said she needed my social security number cause they couldn't verify my insurance, this has never come up as an issue for me in the 15 years I've had a dental policy... and I was reluctant because I had never been asked to, you know give my SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER over the phone to a dentist before. Just so I am clear this is just so I can make the appointment? Weird, but ok I guess... After verifying that this was indeed the Dr's office calling me - long story- and feeling satisfied that it was indeed, I gave her what she needed and thought okay well that should be everything, I'll see you on Monday. The next day, she called me again! Same person. WTF? Ok, calm down benefit of the doubt here...she's just verifying this appointment? That's all! NO!!! that's not it... No, she wants my information again! And pretends that we have never spoken before in our lives... At this point I have no intention of seeing Doctor Aaron J. Wicks DDS at all. But I just want to witness his operation in action to the end. So we have our conversation, she check's me out, gets my info, confirms my appointment (AGAIN!) and tells me, "I will call you back if there is any issues." I don't see what issues there could be, but ok I said, let's stick with crazy. Today I called this office to confirm my morning "appointment" and once again spoke to this stellar receptionist... Fully expecting not to have a slot waiting for me on the Dr's schedule I proceed normally. I am not disappointed. This lady answers and proceeds to flip pages in her calendar eventually putting me on hold, I assume to diligently check out whether my appointment still stands or not. When she get's back on she says she doesn't see anything on the books for me...OMG, that's so strange. I feign surprise and dismay and ask, "what ever could have happened?" She's now clearly perplexed too, taking my cue, she's gonna get to the bottom of this by god! She sympathetically asks, "Did any one ever call you?" And I say, "Why, yes ma'am...you did" and she's silent for a second. "Oh," she says.... "Excuse me." and puts me on hold again. That seems to be the goto strategy for this front office. She get's back on, and says, "Oh yeah I remember talking to you. Yes, of course." (Note: We spoke on a Thursday and again on a Friday -this is a Monday so only 2 days have passed), she's casual now... Yeah, I couldn't verify your insurance. I tried calling you but the phone just rang and rang. Inasmuch as I am concerned that my cel phone's voicemail did not to pick up, and that there is no record of her calling on my cel phone log...how many important calls have I missed over the years??? I venture forth into her fantasy... "Did you try calling me again?" I ask "No." "Ok then, well, I guess I'll find another Doctor." "Ok." "Bye." "Bye" read more

My desire to find and support a good black owned dentist led me to Aaron Wicks. His office is in my neighborhood and in 2020, out of all years, it was really important to have a team of Black professionals that I trusted with my healthcare. I past this office all of the time and once I confirmed that they accepted my insurance, I made an appointment. Needless to say, I had my appointment in July 2020 and NEVER returned. Something was off about this dental practice. Dental care is very important to me and I was with the same dentist for over 12 years until he moved to Florida and the dental practice he recommended did not take my insurance. I am used to a certain level of sophistication and modern technology and this practice needs an overdue makeover. The tools were outdated. Corners of the room that I was placed in for the teeth cleaning looked like it had not been cleaned for some time. I did not enjoy my experience at at all. THEN...when Dr. Wicks came to speak to me, he said that I needed all of this work done (deep cleaning of gums) and cavity filling. I did not believe him and so I told him that I would think about it and get back to him. I never did. I felt like he was trying to bilk my insurance for work I did not need. When he consulted with me, his consultation seemed rush and inauthentic. There was no way on God's green earth that I would entrust my dental care to Dr. Wicks. Note: I went to another dental practice several months later and the dentist exclaimed that not only was I a model dental patient (gums, pink and healthy, no teeth issues), but there was no mention of me needing a deep cleaning or replace a cavity. Folks, do your research, ask questions, and get a second opinion. There appears to be a market of just seeing patients as dollar ($) signs and an incompetent, money hungry dentist can really affect your life. Be careful out there. read more

I've been a patient of Dr. Wicks for about 4 years. He and his staff and knowledgeable, friendly, and professional. With an appointment, I rarely have to wait before being seen. I recall that when I first started going there that the receptionist walked me through my insurance coverage and explained what dental work would be covered under my plan. I really appreciated that level of professionalism and consideration--some places will just send you a bill while you had no clue that it wouldn't be covered by insurance. I'm always happy with the service I've received and no longer fear going to the dentist as I had in the past. Highly recommend. read more

I wish there were a 'negative stars' option. First I thought the office was aesthetically appealing until I realized the sick was a prop and non-functioning. I had to go the restroom in order to spit during my services. Wicks seemed socially disconnected. I decided to let that slide if he were a competent dentist. I shortly found out he was not. I came in with pain and he fixed the wrong tooth. When I returned the next day (after the anesthesia wore off and I was able to tell he had not resolved the problem). I was a little disappointed, but assumed that the tooth he did in fact fill must have needed it as well as the one that was giving me pain. He set an subsequent appointment with me to address the problem tooth, but later had his receptionist call me to say he did not want to treat me because I asked too many questions. WOW.... Never had such an experience with a "professional". It's sad that he put someone else up to his dirty work. I actually felt bad for the receptionist. I have a great dentist now who resolved the problem he couldn't. read more

I previously work for this private practice and in the beginning I worked as a dental receptionist beside the front desk office manager typically ill just answer the phone and make re calls to follow up with patients who are due for a cleaning because i didn't have that much experience, he then let the front desk manager go and trained me to do her job and offered to raise my pay I actually caught on quicker then he thought. I realized Dr. wicks NEVER remember what he says. He decided to not give me the raise after all the billing I did because it was slow but I still was running the front desk and billing also pre authorizations. Not realizing he wasn't getting patients because of the way he talk to people and never wanted to work with anyone. He blame everything on his employees! I don't recommend this job at all. Most patients cancelled because he will do last minute changes leave early knowing a patient is scheduled but then blame me for not making him enough money ! Also causing me to not get hired because I spoke highly of him and he did the opposite but its ok I now work at a hospital making way more and treated with respect! read more

I found this doctor through my health insurance company's website and made an appointment through Zocdoc ten days ago for today. I received confirmation emails, text and email reminders about the appointment, and filled out the patient paperwork they sent to me. Fast forward to today when I show up for my appointment and they tell me they were never notified about it and don't actually take my insurance. Admins, get your offices in order and get yourself off of insurance websites you don't participate in. This has happened to me with another doctor's office in the past ten days, but at least they caught it immediately and called me right away to let me know so I could reschedule with someone else. read more

Went in and after an x ray was told that my root canal had to be redone and that I needed a crown as well which would be $500 on the first visit and another $500 on the second visit. After the doctor finished and I made the next appointment, I was told that the crown was actually NOT included in the price and that would be another $1000. THIS DENTAL OFFICE IS RUN ON NOTHING BUT CAPITALIST GREED. I went in because I desperately needed to get a crown for a root canal recently done. While at my appointment they informed me that a cleaning would be covered by my insurance but then later called me and informed me that my insurance in fact did not cover the cleaning and now I owed them $200. They then refused to provide me urgent treatment for my tooth unless I paid for this cleaning. They put their capitalist ideals over my well-being and the health of my tooth. They were fully aware that I desperately needed this procedure done and I was willing to pay for ii but they could not let go the fact that I was wrongfully charged for a cleaning and could not pay for it at the moment. I will never again step foot into this office and I warn any person trying to get a new dentist to stay away unless you are ok with their sole capitalist agenda rather than focusing on your teeth and your well being. read more

Dental at Aaron Wicks is for someone who is health and fitness conscious and price conscious! Dr Wicks an staff goes the extra mile to explain all your questions and they are well versed. Wicks office is an oasis in Harlem. The facility feels comfortable, even luxurious. With plush seats that over look the street outside (makes you upgrade the way you see Harlem) They have short wait times, because of great scheduling by staff. If you are on time,5-10minutes and you're in. That's really important, because my schedule is tight. They get you right in to see the doctor. Dr Wicks is highly trained and its apparent in his finesse of treatment. I appreciate going to a Howard /Columbia University trained expert in dentistry, with a caring chair-side manner. The staff has a direct, straight forward approach and they are knowledgeable enough to administer procedures to you and give you clinical advise and help from the front desk. When you are seated, the music and nouveau global chic vibe is apparent in the music, art and design...Very comfortable. You feel CARED FOR. The work done there is excellent and expert and they care for you even after you have completed the procedure. I asked for less novacine and they did that for me and I didn't feel any more pain and it took less time to wear off even though I had a major procedure! I came back when I broke a tooth from a bike fall and they fixed my front tooth perfectly so you can't tell it was broken! Also good looking doesn't hurt... read more
