Great donuts, bismarks, and apple fritters! Cash only, but worth it! When I want a pastry fix, I head to Abbe's!

Apple fritter is to die for. We tried a variety of donuts all were really good, but the Apple fritter had just come out hot and fresh. It had a crisp to it and was hot. One of the best donuts I have ever had. FYI cash only. Love this little place. I'm just a visitor, but our mimi lives nearby. I'm coming back here every time I visit. Called to find out if North Port store is open as their Port Charlotte shows open online, but it is not. Anyway the customer service provided on the phone was horrible and quite rude. I for one will not ever be shopping here. I'll buy Wal~mart doughnuts before paying for this type of customer service. I love the doughnuts but lately the staff there had been rude, disrespectful and racist and it's every time my family comes in. My dad came in today and he was next in line and he was clearly in front of the worker and she completely ignored him as if he wasn't there and asked the person behind him (WHO WAS WHITE) for his order. The donuts are the best, but the efficiency and speed at the counter is long and painful. I'd suggest that if you want to get in-and-out fast, go super early in the morning or around 11:30ish 30 mins before closing. Tasty. fresh donuts for cheap! We stopped here for a quick bite after I touched down at 6am in the morning and the donuts were great. The atmosphere left much to be desired, it's a simple, bland inside so I would grab and go if you're looking for donuts. If not, stay and talk with the locals. Abbes Donuts is the absolute best, there is no competition. The donuts, fritters, turnovers, etc are made fresh every morning and when they are gone they are gone for the day. On Weekends the lines are out the door by 6:30am and if you are not there by 8am then the picking is slim, that's how good their donuts are. My favorites are the powdered sugar, raspberry jelly filled and it is not like the commercial donut shops and their dollop of jelly in the center but the entire donut is filled and overflowing with amazingly flavored jelly/jam. If you are in North Port or Port Charlotte you need to make a trip to Abbes. read more

Waited in line for 20 minutes and when I placed my order found out they only accepted cash. I didn't bring cash with me so I was turned away with my two little girls and no donuts! Who does not take debit or credit cards?? Very disappointed! read more

We loved this location so much! Best donuts around... until now. Recently, their service has been terrible. We have tried going a few times in the last few months and the newer employees have been incredibly rude. Nevertheless, loving Abbe's donuts and wanting them for a party, we called and placed an order for 4 dozen donuts a week prior to the date we needed them. We agreed on a time for pickup and that was that. I arrived to pick up the donuts, at the previously agreed upon time (also supposedly during their business hours), and the door was locked- the store obviously closed. I tried calling several times and never got an answer. I sat in the parking lot for a little while and tried calling again... nothing. From now on the Port Charlotte location (not the same owners) will be the only store we visit. I understand one of the owners passed away a few months back and the family has my sincerest condolences. However, when you own a business you need to make sure that business and your customers are being taken care of. If you are unable to do so during a difficult time, the store needs to be closed until a solution can be found. Very disappointed! read more

Simply the best. They are better than when we were kids. Luckily, since I needed 3 dozen, I thought to call ahead. My event started at 10 am, there was a line at the door, halfway down the plaza. In Saugus MA there is Kanes Donuts, in Southwick MA they have Ms. Murphy's. In North Port they have Abbes. A small donut shop rich in history, probably been there 40 or 50 years. One or two tables inside and a few more outside. The regulars help themselves to coffee and 2 other customers offered me a cup of the black gold, but no thanks i'll enjoy my fresh Florida OJ. There were lots of "fat pills" to choose from. I had an apple fritter, it was very dense and filling, most people would share it or save some for later, but no me. I ate the whole thing and and skipped the $5 hot dogs at the baseball stadium. read more

We had been going to Abbe's every Sat. for over 10 years for the best donuts in FL. They were very busy with customers waiting in line for donuts & many people sitting outside enjoying their coffee & donuts. After the lady owner passed away it changed. The donuts are not the same, not airy consistency anymore. Now they are rubbery. Cinnamon rolls used to be thinly rolled with lots of cinnamon. They were the BEST! Now they are like a rolled up rubbery glazed donut! Such a shame how this place is ruined. We don't go there anymore. Foolish changes cannot fool customers. read more

I don't even think donuts are that good. There. I said it. And, now I take it all back. There was a short line already formed when we got there and it is CASH only. You can basically order any filled donut they have and then get it topped anyway you want.. on the spot. Now, for a newbie, it would be helpful if there was sign with all the possible combinations, but fortunately the lady helping us was willing to let us know our options. I did the peanut butter filled cream with chocolate icing. Yep. And, because I couldn't only order one, I also got a cinnamon sprinkle cake donut. You know, for reserves. That peanut butter cream donut was pretty much one of the best things I ever put in my mouth. Not even kidding. I was on a supreme sugar high and it was completely worth it. I saved the cake donut for the next day and it wasn't dried out and was very tasty also. But, now, I will dream about that peanut butter cream donut. I visit this area of Florida once a year and I hold off on eating donuts for the ENTIRE year to wait for an Abbe's donut. They are seriously amazing. The shop is so classic, everyone is a regular, and the donuts are very very yummy. Their glazed donut is my absolute favorite, it's very light and fluffy and perfectly sweet but you can't go wrong with any of them - the cream filling is fantastic and their cake donuts are really great. read more

We just visited Abbe's for the first time and are blown away! First, the heavenly smell of on-site baked donuts, got our taste buds in a tizzy. The selection of tempting delicacies is more than adequate, but we had to limit ourselves to 2 selections (for pig out temptation sake). We ordered Apple fritters and almond donuts to go. I hadn't eaten breakfast, so decided to try part if the almond donut. It was truly an OMG moment for me! It was so moist and tasted like amaretto. Heavenly!!! The pricing is very reasonable too. I come to North Port often to visit my dad who lives here. The first time i ate here the donuts were very fresh and honestly were the best ive ever had!! We went in there today and i ordered 1/2 dozen glazed. To my surprise and disappointment when we got home to eat them, it was obvious that they were NOT fresh and were day old donuts. Under no circumstance should day old glazed donuts be served in a place like Abbes!!!!! We went there early in the morning to beat the crowd and to possibly even grab the donuts while they were still warm. I would have waited in line if it meant having fresh donuts. If i wanted day old donuts i would go to the grocery store to buy them. Take some pride in what you serve and dont try to pull one over on the customer. Day old donuts need to either be discarded or sold at a discount. Extremely disappointed customer here!!! read more

This place is... interesting, for lack of a better word. I was in town visiting my parents and they insisted on going to this donut place that was apparently better than Yummy's (where we used to go when I visited). To be honest, I was thrown off a little bit by the run down area it was in. The strip mall and parking lot were pretty dirty. Granted, it was a Sunday morning so maybe the businesses had all been closed over the weekend and there was no one there to clean up?? Anyway, since my parents had been here before they knew it was a cash only business so we were prepared on that end, but what we weren't prepared for was the woman working constantly yelling that they were going to have to close because she was going to run out of change. That was interesting. Thankfully we were able to give them exact change for our dozen donuts, but the way the woman was acting was very unprofessional and a little rude. I worked my own business for a little while and got a Square card reader for free so I was able to take credit card payments. It made my life so much easier. If you use a referral link, you get your first $1000 in processing for free. Then if you get other people to use your referral link, you get $1000 in processing for free each time someone uses your link. When you have to pay for processing, it's only like 2% or something. I think something like this would be beneficial for Abbe's so they wouldn't have to threaten to close shortly after 9:00am when there are plenty of donuts simply because they didn't have enough change. It would also take some of the stress away and potentially create a more professional environment. Just a thought. As for the actual donuts, I only tasted the chocolate cake with glaze donut and it was delicious. Much better than the Dunkin Donuts variety and I am a big DD fan. read more

Everytime I come visit my family in Northport they bring me Abbe's donuts, so it's become a tradition. I'm a simple person so sadly I can only mention their simple donuts such as the chocolate, glazed and old fashioned donut. I will say that their Bavarian cream and jelly donuts are heavy in a way that can deff feel like you are gettin your money's worth, but might be a little much for some.
