Coming from a Vietnamese background, this supermarket is your typical "Vietnamese" hot spot.... If it's packed with old little Asian women, you know its a good place to shop for your everyday Asian fair. The prices are better compared to the valley, produce is fresh, the meat and seafood are good quality, just don't be turned off by the look of the place and the smell of things. Today, I went to AbC supermarket. Everything was ok until I was at the cashier to checkout my groceries. I was using my phone to check my txt message and my work emails. All of the sudden, the crazy cashier at my checkout station yelling at me for using my phone while at the store. And I told her again again that Im not filming her nor the store, I was checking my emails for work. And all I heard was her bitchy voice in Vietnamese , she said that she dont care. She dont like ppl to use phone while at the store. She was so pissed that you can literally hear her voice at the front of the door. I wait until she finished check out all my stuffs, then i turned around and asked her manager, if there is a policy said " customers are not allow to use phone while shopping at store" or not. Here is a challenge, an adventure and a familiar feeling for those who love to cook Asian dishes. Busy, crowded, aggressive hurried women shoppers gathering stuff for family meals; Busy workers moving/stocking more products in narrow aisles with an abundance of imported food items from Asia; Stables and luxury items of interesting labels to capture my imagination - I like it all. Good produce variety at low prices but lower quality for immediate usage before spoilage. Good frozen selections of exotic and very useful quick meal wants. I liked the meat market. I always visit the fish monger section - good varieties and simple cooking is available for a small fee. Wow! It's not visiting a spot in Asia but it always leaves me with a feel good experience and a desire to return to discover another new item to cook or taste. read more

I give this place a one star for being my go to place for most of my groceries and the prices. But their seafood to go area is a negative star. We had paid three lobsters for them to to be cooked & prepared and was told to come back in two hours (the time was totally understandable cuz it was on Mother's Day.) Brought it home & everyone was eating then we noticed there's a total of two heads & two tails....yet we paid for three lobsters as mentioned above. We called them stating what happened (thinking that they'd prolly got the orders mixed up cuz it was so busy earlier in the day.) Was then put on hold so that person can go talk to the kitchen ppl (meanwhile someone else answered the phone & said that person just went to the restroom...i mean WTH?! So we called back 10 mins later & was told that the kitchen staff all went home early due to Mother's Day and took down our number & said they'll call us back the next day. Lo & behold...never heard back from them nor did they said they were sorry for the mixed up or whatever happened! Long story short...I've heard many stories on how the back kitchen would cook the lobsters & would sneak a piece here & there amongst themselves (leaving customers short-handed.) I wouldn't recommend having them cook your lobsters/crabs there to any one on a holiday wknd. Lesson learned...the hard way. Totally not worth it. The cashiers at ABC Supermarket have terrible attitude toward their customers. There was one particular incident that disturbed me greatly. When the cashier couldn't fit an item in the bag, she attempted to snap the item in half and shove the item into the bag. Seeing that this the item is about to be damaged, I stopped her and asked her if I can bag the item myself. She became angry and confiscated the bag away from me. The cashier told me that giving a customer a bag was her "own" choice. Feeling insulted, I started questioning her action and the manager quickly came to settle the dispute. Seeing the manager polite and understanding attitude, I let it pass and the rude cashier continued to check out the items. However, when the manager left, the cashier continued to instigate me telling me "hurry up to pay and leave this place". I tried to stay calm and not say anything, but she started saying things about me to the customers next in line. Afterward, I spoke to the manager about the cashier rude behavior. However, I doubt if the manager will do anything about this person, since the market is busy and loosing one customer will not affect the market's profit. However, I need to speak up about this, because as a human being, I cannot be treated this way. If customers keep on being tempted by the price of the items and let things pass, these cashiers will continue to bully their customers. It will come to the point when these cashiers think that their customers are beggars asking for their mercy. read more

Very disappointing experience at this market. I have ordered fish to be cooked several times in the past week. I was given a ticket with a number each time and was told to return in an hour to pick it up. When I returned with my ticket/number my fish had been picked up by someone who did not want to wait. The store does not check the ticket at check out to make sure it matches the cooked fish that is being paid for. I requested to speak to the owner but the store manager basically refused to give me the number. I will no longer go to this store. read more

To the racist security guard working at 630 pm today who did not let us into the market for having a bag of flowers and duck eggs we just bought next door, you are the epitome of racism and bad service. He was very aggressive and targeted us because we did not look viet. My mom and sister (who clearly look viet) walked by with bags and a big backpack just fine and he took one look at me and my boyfriend, chased us down while we were following my mother and told me that we could not enter the store. We were very confused and he pointed fingers at us in a very rude and angry tone saying we were not allowed inside. What the hell are we supposed to do? Leave our bags outside where people can steal them?? You are ridiculous. That is terrible service. At least other stores have the decency to offer a "paid" sticker to put on your bags but no, this guy almost lays his hands on me while yelling at us that we can't come in. My mom and sister were already inside so I had to call for them from beyond the gate saying the security would not let us in. We left. Never coming back here. Dude, you need to chill your shit down. My boyfriend works security loss prevention and I am an auditor so please, stop being racist and if you're gonna stop someone for having bags, at least be consistent in stopping everyone with bags. This is about as of an impressive seafood selection as an Asian market goes. We saw guys buying 10lb lobster! Yup, larger than a baby. There were countless fishes to buy and the prices were amazing! The spice section was also impressive with some of the cheapest pricing I have seen. We bought spicy sauce with shrimp, dried scallion, white tree mushroom, large cinnamon sticks, lemon grass powder, lime powder, various exotic fruit extracts...etc. Oh, and 1lb of peanuts for $0.99! This supermarket is so outdated. It still looks the same as it did when it opened. I just came because I was in the same plaza. The aisles are jam packed with boxes and it's hard to navigate a shopping cart without bumping into something. It feels so claustrophobic in there and the selection is not all that great. I would actually like to rate this supermarket a 3.5. Although the parking can be a frustrating experience on the weekends you must come with patience and a lot of it! However, the ABC supermarket is not the only market place with parking issues, it's common at most popular Asian markets! Another added nuisance are the narrow aisles in the stores, where only one cart can fit, and very rarely two carts. Upon entering the store with a cart, you sort of have to maintain a drivers mode in order to maneuver past people and their carts, which are not placed in the most strategic locations. This makes it more difficult for patrons to move around! You'll constantly have to be on the look out for openings and niches where you can park your cart in order to grab items, whether at an adjacent aisle, from the butcher's counter or with the fishmongers. Over the years, I've become accustomed to the smell, busy crowds and long check-out lines. I keep coming back here because the prices are just right! This particular market is a bit run-down, crowded, and has narrow aisles, not one of the most cleanest Asian markets I've been too BUT they have a load of fresh seafood. I mean super fresh. I was passing by the meat section and there were tons of fish sticking out of huge bins at relatively cheap prices. Lots of different selections to choose from.
