I recently had Able Glass replace 6 of the aging aluminum windows in my house with Simonton DaylightMax vinyl windows. What was great about Able: * Great communication during the whole process with Eric, the owner. Way better than the three other window companies that I dealt with * Able has a Santa Clara showroom where you can look at actual windows. The other companies did not * Every visit from Able was on time. It's a good sign when a company shows respect for your time * The installers did a solid-looking installation What could've been better: * Able's quoted price was higher than two of the other companies (Able's labor cost was higher as well). Also, Able charges a fee for using a credit card, whereas the other two companies don't charge a fee * The windows were not cleaned thoroughly after installation, and there were some small smudges left * During the installation, one of the old windows shattered. The installers thoroughly vacuumed the inside of the house, but some glass shards were left on the exterior side of the house * One of the window screens was installed backwards * Some of the spacers used with the old windows were left on the ground outside the house and not discarded Able's quote was the highest amongst the quotes I received, but I went with Able because they seemed like the best company overall. The two other companies I got quotes from had dismal communication, and the third company didn't even bother calling me back to schedule an estimate! Companies take note: whether with marriage or windows, good communication is key! The wife and I love the new windows. I was 39 weeks pregnant when I suddenly decided that the new windows we had been saving for needed to be installed RIGHT NOW! I emailed three companies with my window measurements and asked for a rough estimate and please no phone calls. Able glass got back to me same day and had a rough estimate to me within the week, with the caveat that it might change a bit once they actually looked at my windows. Someone came out to measure the windows and the final estimate was REALLY close to the rough one, and well within the budget I had set. After a few weeks of back and forth with my incredibly picky HOA, we were good to go. The crew that came out to do the installation were great. They were so professional and clearly delighted to be working together. They took great care of our floors and vacuumed so thoroughly after each room was done that you would never have known they were there except for our gorgeous new windows. They also finished the job quite quickly. The windows were in just in time for a massive heat wave to hit, followed by wildfires. Last year we struggled to keep our house comfortable and it smelled smoky all fire season due to the old, drafty windows. This year it's staying cooler indoors and there's no smoky smell whatsoever. TLDD... but in case you've got a minute and want a healthy dose of schadenfreude, here you go My shower glass door slider exploded in my hands. Mmhmm... Yes, it was super dramatic! Next day, 4/30, I call Able, speak with Zsa Zsa. No prob, she says. We replace just the sliders all the time. Sets appt for a week later, 5/6. Nothing earlier bc we're a highly-rated, diamond-certified co., you see. In the mean time I talk to seven other companies. Weeks of waiting. Only one - after looking at photos and measurements of the door opening - said yeah, we can manufacture and install a glass slider. For $580! Another company can install an entire new door. $850, but in five days! Woo-Hoo!! I call back. Speak with Zsa Zsa. Explain the situation. She literally tells me I should "put it in Jesus' hands"!! Um... Ok... Could I, er, speak with someone who might be able to give me a more terrestrial answer? (Based on reviews this shouldn't have been a problem -- But it was!) She insisted they do slider replacements all the time... it's definitely not $580... definitely not weeks. They are a highly-rated, diamond-certified co., but can sched 4-5 days out. (Yay!!) and, no, no-one needs to see my photos, that's what their estimator is for! (I send in the photos and specifications to owner's attn, anyway. Please, please take a look and let me know. No reply.) Fast forward to today. Dude comes out. Looks at the shower. Doesn't even take out his tape measure. Asks me: "do you know the dimensions of the original door?" I blink in confusion. Isn't that why you're here? He says: "we don't do anything like this." What. The. Actual... ??!!! So, yeah, highly-rated, diamond-certified co.: had you bothered to take a moment out of your highly-rated, diamond-certified day to let me know that I needed to know the "dimensions of the original glass" I could have glued all the shards together real quick and gotten right back to you! Oh, and I could have been showering behind my new glass door instead of waiting for another week or two to get scheduled with someone who knows their shower doors from the holes in the goyim's Savior's hands! ****** Eric, you posted a reply blowing your own horn, and accusing me of being rude to your tech. I wasn't. That's a lie. I wrote "What... The... Actual... " As part of my review. For emphasis! I will, however, respond to your obfuscation. Yours was the only businesses that misled me saying you could definitely replace the door, and that it would definitely be less than $300. I practically bagged for a call back to my very detailed email with photos and all the specs and dimensions - specifically so that I wouldn't be wasting your, and my time! Had Able Glass install a front door and screen door at my mom's house back in Dec 2019. The installation was fine, although the door came unpainted and they wouldn't paint it. After the rains came, the screen door wouldn't close so they came out to fix it, no charge. Fast forward to September of 2021, less than two years later. Because the screen door keeps slamming into the back of our feet (if you adjust it, it doesn't close), the decorative grating started to come out from trying to prevent it from slamming the feet. One corner came lose and in trying to push it back in, the entire side started to come out. So I called Able Glass once again to see if they could fix it. Someone came out to look at it and said it couldn't be fixed, so just removed it. The screen was also messed up as it had come out of the gasket so was flapping at the bottom. I asked Able Glass to return to fix the screen as I didn't have the tools to do the job. They came out, took at look at it and said that will cost $175 to fix!!! They said we only come out to do free estimates, but that in order to fix it, it would cost $175. I apparently was crazy to think they would do this for free. When I scheduled this up, the lady I to spoke to said nothing about a $175 charge to fix anything. So I went to Home Depot, bought a tool to fix the screen and it took me all of 5 minutes to fix! Worst customer service ever. I hope yelp has negative stars! I called in for estimates, and was asked to measure all by myself first. After sending in my measurements, John emailed me back "You would be looking at around $6,275.00 total installed". I was okay with that, then they sent in someone for measurement, who was quite nice, then John called me saying it's roughly about $13K, I said it's okay, please give me the the itemized quote, so I can commit. John was extremely reluctant to do it, complaining it would spend him several hours to get all the quotes, so if I was looking for other vendor's quote, don't waste his time. I did want to continue this job, which is under my planned budget. But the rudeness and indifference made me feel like they indeed don't want to get this job at all. Then just say it! I don't review all that many contractors, as I tend to focus on restaurants. However, Able Glass truly deserves my top rating. I have a 18-year-old sliding patio door that was no longer sliding, due to a defective track. After calling 4 contractors and getting 2 in-person visits, one contractor gave me a quote for well over $2,000, because the door "needed replacement". Two other contractors wouldn't touch the job for various reasons. Only Able Glass came through for me! They told me that not only didn't they need to replace the door, but it would cost me less than $400 to repair it to "like new" condition. They did exactly what they promised! Not only that, but when they gave me a 2-hour time window for each of their visits, they arrived exactly at the beginning of the window each time. Posting an update since its been almost a year of installing all my windows with Able Glass. With shelter in place going on, i finally decided it was time to clean my windows (believe it or not, the windows are extremely clean with no maintenance needed all these while since the first installation). While wiping the windows with a damp cloth, i noticed one panel had a scratch line on it. I then went to check all my windows and thankfully that was the only one. I then decided to email Eric Holder of Able Glass about it. To my pleasant surprise, Eric said we are still under warranty and proceeded to help order a replacement after i sent him the photos and window measurement. He then placed the order and told me it takes 2 ~ 3 weeks to fabricate the glass and deliver. Fast forward just 7 days later, the glass arrived and Eric arranged the installation the following day. I got a notification on their expected arrival timing and the guys came early. Within minutes, i got a new window installed free of charge! The technicians then proceeded to pack up and leave, and i literally had to chase them down to hand them their tip as they were not expecting it. Needless to say, i'm extremely happy with their work done and even more the after-sales service by Able Glass. They are truly a company that honours their word and delivers on their promises. Lady who answers the phone is rude *again, tells me she can't help me and that it'll probably be in the afternoon. I tell her that I was given an 8-10 am timeslot today and she gives me guys number to call cos she says she doesn't have any way and means of finding out the information for me. I then call the man, thankfully he's not rude, seems to be helpful. He said he'll try to find put and call me back. I was shipped a framed shirt and upon opening the box I found that the glass had broken and the corners of the wooden frame were split. I decided to take it to Able Glass since they quoted me at $24, which is a reasonable price. However, after I left the store I was given a call and was notified that they would have to "fix" the frame in order to put the glass in, and this would cost $60. I agreed to this. When I came to pick up the frame, it looked like all they did was GLUE some pieces of the corner back! $60 for glue?!?! Even the front desk rep said that she didn't know it had turned out that bad looking and she advised me to ask UPS to cover their $85 total charge. If you choose this company, I advise you to ask what each charge entails. To glue the corners it probably took 5 minutes and $1 worth of sealant...this is not worth $60. read more
