Looking for a place in our new neighborhood, I took our Subaru in for tune up and oil change - I used the Yelp coupon, impressed by all the great reviews. Some other minor repairs were diagnosed and taken care of. Others were honestly diagnosed as not pressing and given a time frame to address later, which was appreciated. We had some strong oil smell burning off the engine in days following, left I imagine from some minor spill, but not a big deal. Price was a little high compared to last few tune ups ($300), but those were not in Chicago. I think the price was fair, and certainly cheaper than a dealership. My impression is that they are very honest and professional. I will certainly use them again. read more

Brought in my ford focus for new break pads and rotors (and an oil change). Adeel was super straightforward with me about what my car needed, and what it would cost, while giving me options at the same time. After a couple of drives with my new brakes, I noticed a smell coming from the left brake. I called him and he knew exactly what it was (caliper was seizing) and told me to bring it in that day. He replaced my caliper (not even a part I originally paid for), rotor, and brake, all at no cost and all ready the next day. Great service, and everyone there is super friendly! Thanks guys! Add another 5-star review to the list! Adeel and his crew really are the real deal. Everyone hates "picking" a mechanic. You have to be so concerned about being screwed. Especially if you don't have enough knowledge to know if they're lying to you. I have only had GREAT experiences with ABM. My first experience was getting my oil changed to synthetic. I decided this would be a great opportunity to check out a new mechanic. I had them look 'er over for anything else they thought it needed. Adeel told me I would need tires sooner, rather than later but I had a little bit of use left. Same with the breaks, although they had more life left than the tires. I can't remember now but I needed to have some fluid changed. He told me I didn't need to do it quite yet (when I was getting the oil changed) but I should bring it in after X miles or X months or something. (I think it was about 3-6 months.) Seriously, who tells you that you don't need stuff "quite" yet. I think this is the gray zone when all too many mechanics just tell you to get it done now. Speed forward a year, time for my 1x yearly oil change (love synthetic) because I don't drive all that often. I also knew I was way past needing tires. Adeel agreed, but he said my brakes still had enough life and I didn't need to change them yet. He was really honest about the tires. He told me all the options I had, and said that he doesn't do TOOO many tires but gave me his opinions. I felt like they were honest--he told me when he though certain tires were just a name brand, but not really worth the extra money...and also told me which ones were too cheap to bother with. I got my tires changed, my oil changed, and he also mentioned my power steering hose was cracked (or something) and I probably should replace this sooner rather than later so I went ahead and had that done also. I do not hesitate to believe anything Adeel tells me at this point. He could tell me that he had a unicorn in the backroom and I would probably believe him. He talks to you like a friend, you just get the honest, frank, real deal. No fluff, no schmoozing just the honest friendly story. I also do love that you don't need to make an appointment. If you don't feel like bringing it in tonight, fine, you didn't have an appointment anyway. I usually bring mine in at the end of the day after work, and pick it up the next day after work. i took my 2011 ford flex into the dealer cuz the engine light came on they told me i would need a new engine at a cost of min 8500.00 or that the mech would buy it for 2000.00, my tricia said lets take it to abm and have them look at it cuz she said they are very honest and fair so i did and after a week they (cuz of the holiday weekend) they told me it looks like the water pump went out and they could fix it for 1600.00 so we had them work on it and after three weeks the car is running great i have since told all my golfing buddies about abm and they all requested their info cus they plan on taking their cars to abm.. great service and very knowledgeable people.. thanks for your workmanship.. we are very satisfied.. thanks george vazquez read more

These guys are great. My car's battery died at our house which was just a block and a half down the street from their old location on Clark Street in Andersonville. We had a professional relationship with them as they already did work over the last couple of years for us. I couldn't believe that they said they would come over and jump it for me at my house so that i woudln't have to pay for a tow down the block. ABM Auto and Adeel are as Honest as they come in the Auto Repair business. Ive taken my glk 350 in a couple of times for repairs and these guys are honest and efficient. Their prices are extremely reasonable and they do not overcharge. Yesterday I took my glk 350 to replace to replace a headlight and today I brought my other car back to take out a nail and plug a tire. This will not always be the case but both times they took care of the issue within 15 minutes. Best of all...they did not charge me to pull the nail out and put in the plug. They probably couldve charged me at least $10-$20 but they didnt. I couldnt believe it. For a moment, this felt like you were in a small town and everyone knew each other. I just opened a yelp account specifically to give ABM a great review. After my experience with ABM, I completely understand why they have a perfect rating on yelp. Before going to ABM, I had taken my car to two other mechanics who had seemingly misdiagnosed, tried to charge me for extras that weren't necessary, or included services completely unrelated to the problem in their estimate. Anyway, after researching auto repair shops in Chicago I came across ABM. I called them at around 2:30 on a Saturday. The owner was very friendly and told me to bring it on in. I dropped off my car, explained the problem and headed back home. About 20 minutes later I received a call from Adeel who gave a detailed explanation of the problem with my car. He explained every possible option, the price for each option including exactly how much labor would cost. He did not try to persuade me to do anything extra, etc. He just identified the problem, gave me the cost, and fixed the problem without trying to add any BS. I ended up paying a little less than I was quoted, and he showed me all of the parts that were replaced (without me requesting.) In addition, I ended up paying $1,000 less than one mechanic had quoted me. Best experience ever at an auto repair shop and maybe even any business. We brought our 2002 Lancer in to have a flat repaired, and to check on why our back tire was always needing inflating. Adeel was kind enough to check our car right away because my wife and 5-month old son had to bring the car in. Nice people to do business with. Ok here what happened, just few weeks ago my benz went into limp mode mean tranmission stuck in second gear because of some electrical problem. I called dealer but dealer was outrageously pricy,then i called other shops in the neighborhood but they did not have mercedes software to diagnose and fix the problem. Friend of mine told me about Adeel that he is mercedes certified tech and he could look in to it. I've used Yelp, without personally signing up for an account, for some time. It has helped me navigate my way to great venues, great restaurants and great service providers. After it guided me to ABM auto repair shop, however, I found it necessary to sign up for an account and payback the Yelp community that has helped me so much. For a number of months I exclusively used public transportation. I went without driving my car completely. When I finally attempted to start my car, however, it didn't start. I checked the battery, I checked compression and I checked the spark but couldn't find the reason it wasn't starting. Eventually I depleted the battery trying to start it so many times. I needed to find a good auto repair shop in my area, so I checked Yelp. I'm glad I did. A gentleman by the name of Adeele provided me with great customer service off the bat. He was also extremely helpful in suggesting a towing company. He told me that he would check my car out and then call me before working on it. When Adeele promptly called me back, he told me that they: recharged the battery, checked all the rings, the spark plugs, and found the only thing preventing my car from starting was a flooded fuel line. They got it running the same day and only charged me for a 1/2 hour of labor. I had them give me an oil change as well and when I asked which oil change was the best Adeele gave me a straight answer instead of trying to up-sell me. I will continue taking my car here for all its future check-ups and/or hiccups. This shop didn't try to invent problems, it didn't exaggerate problems. This shop solved problems. If I had to, I would travel across the Chicago-land area to take my car to a fair auto repair shop like this and if I ever move I will. I typically have good experiences at ABM. However, my last (and final) visit I tried to save money on an ignition coil replacement on four coils for my Nissan Altima by choosing ABM over another repair shop in Albany Park. This is a decision I now regret tremendously! Not only did I not save money, I ended up paying more since ABM didn't complete all the necessary repairs for the coil replacement and the wiring needed. When I called to let ABM know that the other auto shop needed to re-wire the coils, Adeel explained that I didnt need the wires to be done on the coils. ABM electrical taped wires together that should have been individually taped until an appropriate fix could be completed next weekend. I knew something was wrong when I kept smelling a burning odor and I called them immediately to confirm if this was normal. They said it was the degreaser from the oil leak into the coils before the repair. Also, they did not replace the value cover as I requested. Third, they were too busy to notice my motor mounts had gone bad too. Lastly, the rushed and lazy job performed caused the wires to short the electricity to my car's computer system. Ultimately, an ignition coil replacement ($900 job) is now going to end up costing me an additional $1,400 for a new computer and re-wire work for negligence. I would not recommend this place for auto repair. They take on too many jobs and rush through the work by taking shortcuts instead of performing the repair the proper way. I've spent thousands of dollars in their shop just to have a sloppy wire job performed that will ultimately cost me another couple thousand more in repairs. Where is the customer care at? This could have been prevented. It's very disappointing! read more

I couldn't believe I found this amazing auto repair shop. My car transmission was blown 1 month ago and I need a replacement of the transmission with a used one or transmission rebuilt. I have a personal friend who is an auto mechanic. He always offers me the lowest price that I can find which sometimes can be half of the price that formal auto shops can offer. So I have been using his service for almost 3 years (I've only owned my car for 4 years so far). So this time I still talked to him and got a quote of $1500 which would include the replacement of my bad tranny with a used one which has 90,000 miles on it. I did some research before and I know this was already a whole lot cheaper than several auto shops that I asked (price ranging from $2000 to $2500+). So I was about to let him repair it for me again, but right before I gave him my car I came across the review about ABM Auto Repair on Yelp. Although I didn't hold any hope that this shop would offer better deal than my friend did, I thought it wouldn't hurt to give it a try. Then I called them and talked to Adeel. I was shocked when he quoted me with $1200 for used tranny and $1500 for transmission rebuilt (FYI, it is not as good as new but it is rebuilt under the old tranny case by putting new gears inside. So more reliable than used transmission). Their quote is even $300 lower than what my friend offered!! With the same price of $1500, I can have my tranny rebuilt instead of using a used one!! Finally, I decided to do the tranny rebuilt because it comes with 1-year warranty whereas the used tranny is more prone to fail again and only has 30-60 day warranty. Tranny rebuilt is one of the largest repair in auto repair categories. So it takes longer time. I gave them the car just 2 or 3 days before X'mas but I got my car back in one week! They even worked on my car during the X'Mas weekend...Now my car is running great again and I don't need to worry about the tranny failure because there is 1 year warranty. I will trade in my car to get a new car within one year, lol. Besides that, I also asked Adeel if I need to change my timing belt since there are over 70000 miles on my car. I asked my mechanic friend earlier too and he suggested me to change it without inspecting my timing belt. In contrast, Adeel inspected the timing belt and told me it's still good for another 20000 miles so I don't need to change it right now. I would definitely change the timing belt if he said I needed to (I have some knowledge about cars and I know 60000-80000 miles is usually where you should change your timing belt). Basically he helps me save money by rejecting unnecessary work on my car which means he wouldn't make money out of my pocket when he could. Overall, it's an awesome experience dealing with Adeel and his crew. They're always friendly and Adeel, so are their coworkers i guess, is very professional. Quality work with great price! Just a little complaint, they don't seem to care very much about the cleanness of the car when they do their job. My steering wheel and transmission stick are greasy and dirty when I got my car back so I have to clean them myself. But anyway, they save me a lot of money!! It's time to fire my old personal mechanic and start using this shop as my routine mechanic, HA :-D. If you use the Yelp special discount as the first time customer, you can get another 10% off. Five stars! My experience at ABM Auto was excellent. Adeel is knowledgeable, loves his work (and talking about cars), and the best sign of all: there are so many cars in his shop you can hardly drive in! I recently began seeing my transmission light go on, on my 1999 Lincoln Continental (118k) after driving at highway speeds for some time. My dealer did a transmission service, and replaced the fluid, etc., but otherwise said that given the cost of a repair or rebuild, I should continue to drive the car since the transmission was not failing yet. Shortly after, I began to hear a small buzzing sound that steadily increased as I drove, directly proportional with speed. Over time, it got worse. Thinking it was the transmission again, I went back to the dealer, but they couldn't find anything. They said it might be wheel noise, but the conversation didn't go much further. As for the transmission, they still suggested that given the cost to replace it I should "drive on." I agreed. I lived with the noise, but over the past year it's become steadily worse. After reviewing different service shops for transmission repair/rebuilding, I decided to go to ABM. GREAT CHOICE!!! Literally within one minute of my describing the problem, Adeel said it suggested to him that a wheel bearing was gone. He drove the car, confirmed his diagnosis, and fixed the problem in a day, after also servicing the rear brakes. No noise!! And he agreed with the dealer: the transmission was weak, but not dead; on my car, which is worth $2,500 max. in trade, it's probably not yet at the point where I want to take on a rebuild. Long story short: I got the car back in 24 hours, and the noise is gone. I got the rear brakes serviced, he replaced a bulb that was out (I'd forgotten to ask), he replaced the air filter, and his service tech tightened the parking brake cable at no charge as well. I'll definitely be back to see Adeel and ABM Auto as other needs arrive--perhaps even for that transmission! read more

Actually, I just opened this account for ABM. ABM is great auto repair shop. They are very nice and friendly, and also, they are very patient, since I have asked too many questions to them... My car is saturn vue 2007; the ignition lock is DEAD, in another word, the car can not be ignited. I have to spend around 15 minutes to ignite my car, sometime, it is worse, for example, it took me 45 minutes to ignite my car. It is really annoying. So, I asked my friend where I can fix this problem, my friend said that ABM; and I trust him, and then went there. The first time, they took ignition part away, and fixed that. Honest speaking, they did great job, I can ignite the car very easily; but it is not as smooth as before when I ignite my car. So, at night, I called them again, they said coming tomorrow, we replace a new one with no charge. I dropped my car at the second day, coming back in the afternoon; they replaced it. They gave me my old ignition lock, explained to me what the problem of my ignition lock is. When I ignite my car, it is very smooth, and like brand new. read more

I have '96 Accord that, until this summer, had never been out of San Diego or Phoenix. On one of the first days of winter, my little car started to resist the freezing temps and the check engine light came on without missing a beat! Being new to the city and a poor student, I took my car to ABM because it seems other reviewers had older cars and were in a similar situation. Adeel, who I think is the owner, is awesome! I called first and he said to bring it in, never charging me for an estimate or anything. He was really up front and didn't seem to care when I said I'd have to think about the cost of fixing it when he called to let me know the estimate was done. I decided to get the work done (a tune up is about $200), and I also took it to get an emissions test immediately after leaving the shop. They must've done a good (enough) job because I passed! YAY! As a woman, I appreciate the fact that he's respectful and doesn't treat me like an idiot. As someone who isn't an expert in auto repair, I appreciate the fact that he's always willing to explain how things work and show me what needs to be done. I called around to compare prices the first few times I went in, and ABM seemed to be among the best. Brownie points: I had another car emergency (needed a rotor replaced before a cross-country drive) and Adeel's shop has been closed for awhile due to some structural issues. In the summer of 2013 I brought my car is because it just wasn't running "right" - lough exhaust noises, stalling out, just lost of little things. I had gotten a quote from another facility and was told I was going to be out approximately $1400, which I did not have to spend on my car at the time. I found Adeel through Yelp and gave him a call and told him my symptoms, he said to bring the car right in. That day I got a call letting my know everything that need to be fixed to get my 2007 Ford Escape back into top-notch condition...and it was going to cost less than 1/2 of that original quote. Every time we've brought the car in they have been super quick. Adeel is a little hard to understand over the phone because he mumbles so quickly. And that almost turned me away from coming in. But he is AWESOME! He's very thorough and quick and friendly. When we had a part replaced he had the old part in his office for me to look at. He explained what the issue was and what the repair was. This week my car hood wasn't latching and we didn't have the money for an expensive repair. Adeel told me to bring it in anyway and he would look at it.
