Very bed experience. Our dog's groomer is on maternity leave so my wife took a dog over there. When got there my wife informed groomer that our dog might get nervous sometimes (just sometimes) and it may be a good idea to put a muzzle just in case. Groomer embarrassed my wife in front of other people saying how nasty our dog is (not even knowing him) and how she doesn't have time to deal with nasty dogs. SHAME ON YOU GROOMER!!! BEWARE...this place does not know how to properly cut & groom all dogs. Owner purchased this business & merged former business (Dog N'Suds)...so they are one in the same. For years I happily took my pets to Dog N Suds. Sadly, there was a decline in the overall quality of grooming after the current owner purchased the business from Kay. Now she has purchased About Dogs. Her attitude has become increasingly more arrogant & teaches her staff to put out the same vibe if questioned in any way about an uneven cut, dull coat, etc. Their prices aren't cheap & non-negotiable! I have four dogs so I would at least expect my dogs to smell better, not be flaky from lack of rinsing, nails to be trimmed evenly & no jagged ends... especially for the prices they charge. Having 3 rescued greyhounds that never needed their hair trimmed, my young daughter wanted a small dog. We purchased a designer "teddy bear" (TB). I inquired about their knowledge of grooming the dual coats ( top coat thinner w/a thicker under coat) on this breed. Having had a Sillky in the past, I was aware of the importance of a GOOD/Knowledgable groomer. Our TB sometimes look okay & other times was shaved almost like a hairless dog. Once before a professional photo shoot w/my daughter. Ruined the pics! I was told they had to take nearly all her hair off b/c she had areas too matted. Then proceeded to tell me I need to brush her daily to insure it would not happen again. NO advance phone asking permission! FYI- We did regularly brush our dog, so I felt this was more of an "oops" on the groomers part... covered up by shaving all the hair off. And dated to charge more! Another visit the owner handed me a brush upon arrival & told me to be sure to have any mats out b/c they didn't have time. Seriously, am I employed by this woman?!! My first visit at the current location, I arrived to find the owner chatting with a friend on the phone. I looked at my teddy bear & saw one ear trimmed visibly shorter than the other. Her hair appeared limp vs full & fluffy! Asking her to even out the ears was a huge effort & abundant "Attitude"! My one greyhound also had rough jagged nails & dull fur. I was hurried out the door with an explanation that perhaps it's "the water" at this location or a new soap they may have tried. Upon arrival home Both dogs had terrible itching, the greyhound flaking, & the TB fur was unevenly butchered over entire body; as if they used old dull scissors. After trying to even it out myself, I called the next morning & left a message. I did not yell or use inappropriate language - I simply stated this was totally unacceptable & I needed to bring the dogs back in. Four calls & speaking to 2 staff members, but the owner never returned my call. HAPPY ending... I decided it was WAY past time to locate a new "Professional" groomer. Go to SHAGGY PAWS in Lake Zurich (Rt 12 & 22). Never an issue, owner & staff are AWESOME!! Pricing is competitive. Two years with this establishment - zero issues. Very professional! My TB looks amazing - like a show dog every time. So do my Greys! No attitude- no issues! It's a great experience. Just be sure to call a few days to week in advance. Lots of people Love them. Shame on me for not seeking a better place sooner. No one should put up with,or pay for arrogant unprofessional people ... that don't know how to properly groom all dogs ...or treat there clients ...and don't care to learn!! read more

I've been looking for a good groomer for forever and my neighbor recommended these guys. She has 4 dogs so I gave it a shot. This place is great - my shih tzus looked super cute when they came out plus they're a LOT cheaper than Petsmart grooming! Petsmart charges $15 extra for nail grinding and a bandana - here it's part of the full groom. Super satisfied. Thanks!! read more

We were scrambling for a groomer after our experience at another local groomer was so dissatisfying. I'd heard that About Dogs was smaller and more personal than our previous groomer. So true! What was so great about About Dog was that when I told them what I wanted, they listened. And, even better, wrote down exactly what they did on our dog's card so we can repeat the look if we liked it (which we did). Or, if it turned out that I didn't like something, then I'd know what needed to be changed. Plus, they did a phenomenal job cleaning up our curly haired, floppy-eared pup's ears! I'd give them 5 stars except we've only gone once....about to make another appointment and if it goes as well, I'll gladly give them 5 stars! read more

I have no experience with taking dogs in to be bathed because it is something I've always done myself. But a shoulder surgery sidelined me for a long time. I took my Golden Retriever in, not knowing what to expect. He just pranced out afterward, so proud of his new look! They did a MUCH better job than I could have ever done myself, with the added benefit that I don't have to clean up the entire bathroom or wash a load of towels once the dog is clean :) The second time was no different. And they listened when I had a couple of things I wanted changed. AND they wrote it down on a card and filed it, so the next time, they'll already know my preferences. When I called for another appointment, I asked for another tweak to his routine, and they didn't even blink. Just took it in stride. I really like this groomer! read more

I have been to 6 different groomers with my Golden Retriever and have never been fully satisfied until today! I called in the morning and they took me at the time I wanted. They bathed, brushed, and trimmed the ears and feathering of his legs. I am so happy that they listened to what I wanted and I have truly never seen Charlie looking so clean and he smelled amazing!!! read more

I have 5 dogs. All but one gets groomed. About Dogs has been grooming my dogs monthly for a couple years. Sue has a very flexible schedule and does an amazing job. The dogs like going there, and they come home looking and smelling great. I would highly recommend them. read more

I went in to get my puppy's nails clipped. The women there complained about my dog's wild tail right in front of me (she loves attention), and after it was done, I had to ask if I needed to pay, because no one said anything to me or moved towards a register. Then, the three women had to discuss how much they should charge, ($15- for a puppy nail clip!) and then had the audacity to tell me that the $5.00 I am normally charged at a different place is a 20-year old price and the people I normally go to should be ashamed for only charging $5. To top it off, I had to have my dogs nails clipped again within days. Bottom line: They were not professional, did not do a good job on something very simple, and I felt very uncomfortable in general. I wouldn't trust them to take care of my dog outside of my presence. read more

This is a great place to have your dog groomed, provided the dog is small to medium in size. We have a Bernese Mountain Dog that Sue and the team have been grooming for a year. We also had one prior to this one without any problem. Sadly today we were informed that our dog is too big for the ladies to handle. So now we need to find someone else. Bummer. read more

I've been taking my shih-Tzu there for the past 5 years and they have always done a nice job. They do keep track of what you want on a card so they do know your preferences and you don't have to explain each time you go in there.Unfortunately, they are no longer working Saturdays which is key for me.
