The shrimp was well seasoned and perfectly cooked. The fresh mozzarella on top was a perfect addition. The espresso martini was great! Our table had the calamari, hummus and artichoke dip. Visited About Last Knife right before my show at Pantages, figured it was a good opportunity to experience a good Dine LA menu. I'm giving it 3 stars overall. Going to go into detail but TL;DR - great service, had the nicest server. Slowwwwwww kitchen, be warned. Good starters, and a mixed main course and dessert. Dry and overcooked steak, and subpar chocoalte fudge cake plus the slow service led to the loss of the 2 stars. There were some great moments, and i'll detail them below, but unfortunately, they were overshadowed. I need to preface this by saying we walked in at 5:30 and were one of maybe 3 or 4 couples in the restaurant, all were well into their meal and all had left by the time we received our main course. Our show was at 7:30, and we walked out at 7. We weren't late (budgeted our time well) but to be a 90 minute experience when there's almost no one else in the restaurant seems like a lot. I can't imagine what would happen if they were full. Now the food: Note: For Dine LA - my friends and I always order different things and share so I have 6 dishes to review! YAY! First course we had the filet mignon carpaccio and the smoked trout croquettes. Both were good and very flavorful. I wouldn't say spectacular, but I would have them again. My one issue was the menu clearly says "baguette" comes with the carpaccio and we had to ask for bread separately. we got these mini crustini type bread-bites which was fine, just not what we expected when seeing the word "baguette". For the second course we got the Filet Mignon with Truffle Mash and the Papardelle Cacio e Pepe. The pasta was spectacular. 10/10, highly recommend BUT it was "salt to taste". Not deducting points for that because a lot of restaurants do forgo the salt so people can season their own meal. I'm hoping it was done on purpose, because if not - bland. Once we added a bit of salt, it was a fantastic pasta. I'll go back just for that. The Filet Mignon was not great. We ordered it medium, and got a very well done piece of meat with no taste. Again - the salt thing - but this is meat so....I don't know what to do here. HOWEVER, the mashed potatoes were stunning. For the dessert we had a stunning brulee cheesecake and a very lack luster chocolate fudge cake a la mode. The ice cream was great, the fudge cake tasted a bit chalky and was kind of hard to eat. I also couldn't find them on the menu, not 100% sure they're there. If that's true, that proves it was something quick and easy for Dine LA. Great drinks - had a mocktail and a berry mojito. Nothing much to say, they tasted good. Despite the great service and the beautiful interior, I am stuck at 3 stars. There is no way that meal should've taken that long given the circumstances and for a dine-LA meal l, I expect a baguette, my filet to come out the way I ordered it and a dessert that doesn't feel like you just defrosted it. I'm echoing the other reviews when I say plan your time well because you'll be here a while. To the restaurant, I do want to say that most people use Dine LA to experience a restaurant for the first time. I highly recommend putting your best foot forward for the menu and highlighting what you do well or they won't come back. Went here on a Friday night for Dine LA. We made reservations, but you probably don't need one. Overall, the experience was good! Atmosphere was calm and the service was attentive and friendly. Looks like most of the customers may be hotel residents, but it meets the criteria as place to go for a casual dinner on the nicer side! The highlights of eating at ALK was definitely how cozy we felt, and the overall service being very kind and attentive. The food: Calamari: Crispy, but mostly breading-- we still enjoyed it though! Filer carpaccio: okay, but the mushrooms were flavorful and arugula a good pairing. Filet Mignon: Don't let the picture fool you! Both of ours were cooked PERFECTLY--medium rare, good quality, and seasoned well. Melt in your mouth the way a filet should be. Mashed potatoes:sooo flavorful, soft, and smooth--so good!!! Dislike: The veggies on both dishes were very average, no seasoning, poorly cooked. Mostly went untouched. Dessert: A bit odd. Came here for dine LA. I was with 3 other people and we in general didn't care for the appetizers, tomato soup and fish croquettes, we all had the sand dabs as an entree and enjoyed it But we all loved our desserts! The tart tatin and the cheesecake were delicious and a true stand out. read more

Really not great, but really not terrible. Service is S-L-O-W and front of house is disorganized. Drinks are weak and overly sweetened. My duck was extremely dry and my husband's veal stew tasted like it came straight out of a Campbell's can. The most interesting part of the evening was watching the servers pick up a red bucket from the floor, place it on the bar, and proceed to use the water therein to wipe down said bar, before placing it back on the ground. Went for breakfast (while staying at the hotel). Didn't even end up eating there because after we sat down we were completely ignored for about 15 minutes. We got up and left and on our way out we saw the waitress who originally sat us down leaving - her shift was over. We were in a bit of a rush and sitting there for 15 minutes waiting to have someone take the order delayed the entire day. If I pay $40 for a crappy morning buffet it would be great if someone bothered to acknowledge we are there. read more

Went here for Dine LA. Turned out to be a nice surprise. We've walked by many times on our way to the Pantages Theatre but wasn't sure what to expect. We didn't have the warmest welcome on our arrival, but after that things looked up. We had a wonderfully nice waiter it was very attentive and accommodating. Both of us had the sole in a caper lemon white wine sauce. Absolutely delicious. We started with a beef carpaccio and ended with delicious desserts including a fudge cake with vanilla ice cream which was amazing and a burnt cheesecake which was also well above the standard restaurant dessert. I would definitely go back and definitely a great place to go before or after the theater. read more

The ambiance looked nice and fun; yet the food and service was so disappointing. Though I do like the small details like their menu on clipboards, the food just didn't cut it. Definitely a pass. During the time, we got a pork chop, a halibut, ahi poke, and because another yelper mentioned to get the carrots, we got the carrots. The ahi poke and carrots came out first. First off, the ahi poke was overly saturated with soy sauce and the cut of fish was not soft and fresh. Second, whoever mentioned the carrots must of had their taste buds burnt off. It came smothered with different spices but mainly cayenne pepper. Not delicious, practically inedible. Sooo spicy! The pork chop was dry, and bland. Terrible service! We went to eat for a Mother's Day brunch as it was advertised. The menu was lacking. Our food took very long to come out. The appetizer came out after the food and they did offer a discount. Our waiter was overwhelmed that he didn't have time to pay a attention to us. They my did have a jazz band that was very good. A mother and daughter left without ordering. The people next to us sat at their table 10 minutes before us and their food came out 10 minutes after ours. Happy hour 3-6pm at ALK was a pleasant surprise. Our waitress (Katherine) was helpful, attentive and very friendly. We were impressed with the nice selection of beer for $5 and amazing selection of wines by the glass (from all over the world-several from various regions of France including the loire valley, argentina, germany, etc) for $10/glass. We were planning on eating a formal dinner somewhere but the happy hour food served as a nice early dinner. We loved the cauliflower beignets (really just lightly fried cauliflower) in a subtle yet tasty sour cream sauce. The tuna tartar was good but not exceptional. The hummus app off of the regular menu was impressive and delicious and even included a couple of falafels. The portions were so ample that this served as a tasty and economical dinner--and the wine was fabulous. Breakfast the next morning was very good--my wife had the acai bowl--good but frozen! This spot is fine. Really nice staff. I had the lobster risotto and Brussels sprouts. I like that they use real lobster, unlike some places that don't think people know the difference between lobster and langoustine. Nice portion size but to be honest there was something missing from the flavor profile of the risotto. Can't put my finger on it, & the texture was a bit weird... almost like the rice was cut in half or something. By no means was it nasty... but it was just (respectfully) very forgettable. I stayed at the hotel Godfrey, (the hotel that this restaurant is in). It had been a SUPER long day at work so I decided that I was up for a dessert, so I got a slice of cheesecake to go and took it to my room. Unfortunately, it wasn't very good and I only took a couple bites. Such a bummer... I REALLY wanted it and it was less than meh. Oddly, the brussels were the hero dish? Hello, My 2 sisters and I came to the ALK restaurant for tea last week. To say that it was horrible would be an understatement. The service was abysmal, we waited for 10 mins just to be shown the tea menu. Then the waitress brought over one tiered tray with stale scones and lukewarm sandwiches. I then asked for more as when I called ahead I was told that each of us would be getting a tray. She said it's not the case she's not sure. So I asked for fresh scones at the very least. 20 mins later, the scones arrived. I opened them to find that they were completely raw. Attached is a picture. If I ate this, I would have food poisoning. I asked to speak to the manager. He was very rude and said they were raw because I asked for fresh scones. I pointed out that I asked for fresh scones, not raw ones. The manager never once apologized and tried to gaslight me. Disgusting behavior. I was then charged 90$ for this whole ordeal and honestly I would have had a better tea service at Starbucks. Your hotel doesn't know how to serve a proper tea and frankly it should be taken off the menu. I'm disappointed and frankly serving undercooked food is a health violation that should be reported to the officials. read more

This restaurant is absolutely amazing I have two toddlers and fine dining with small children is usually a nightmare but all the staff were absolutely amazing. Especially our server John. Just an absolutely amazing person, I felt so at ease and calm. John went out of their way to make our experience completely unforgettable, I've been to many restaurants but John's customer service and just overall presence was immaculate. From the bottom of my heart thank you for your kindness and for making this Father's Day extremely special. So 100000/10 for service. As for the food it was absolutely delicious. Everything was cooked to perfection my children devoured their food. Portions were big. The restaurant itself is beautiful and clean. Food came out fast. Sorry I don't have pictures Truffle Flatbread 1/10: this was like a pizza you make at home with lunchables and the "truffle" part was just some slight topping on it to make it different Burger 3/10: the meat had no seasoning . The fries were thick and didn't taste good. During our stay at The Godfrey, we visited All Last Knife (ALK) twice. Once in the late afternoon for cocktails and munchies, and the following morning for brunch. Cocktails were great and the food too. Blueberry pancakes were delicious! My eggs benedict was blah as the eggs were overcooked. The egg yolks were fully cooked, so I was left eating a very dry tasting eggs benedict. The dinner menu had something I really wanted to try, the duck schnitzel. read more

Driving back home from Hairroin Salon I didn't want to be caught in traffic so I see a new place with good atmosphere go by and pull over to see what it is! A new Hotel but I'm interested in the About Last Knife and I sit down and order the Sausage Board - $22 The Daily Sausage selection is Lamb & Nguja, with Gouda & Goat cheese. A lot of grain mustard, a little bit of pickled cabbage, corn nuts and 1 almond. The lamb sausage was small but good! (Best part of the board) The Nduja sausage - salty, salty , salty and spicy! It would be great to have something to balance all that salt and spice with but no. The Gouda cheese and the Goat cheese were just that, more salt. Chef Steve Blackburn - who designed the menu - needs to understand that this much salt and spice needs sweatiness. Like honey almonds or fig jam, or just honey with fresh apple slices on the side... or raisins?? Anything that is not SALT after SALT after SALT. I had 2 Cabernet glasses (only 1 choice by the glass BTW) 6oz- $16 And if I felt that this was anything to boast about, I would've had a main dinner dish, but I don't trust the CORN NUTS on the BOARD or the lack of balance! Too bad really! Because the atmosphere looks pretty good. Open wall sliding doors at the bottom of the new hotel. With bar in the lobby where the restaurant is... great way to get guests to come in and order a drink as they check in! Hit or miss. Great drinks and service at the bar. However, yesterday was not efficient. They've been open for a couple months now. So it's not technically that new. Took so long to get absolutely anything that at the end we basically paid the bill before the dessert arrived. We chose the dine LA menu. Lobster was not well cooked on the risotto. It was almost fluffy if that's even a thing. Drinks were on point. Chicken was pretty good. The place was empty and it took almost 1.5 hours to get our food and the check. Our server was nice but didn't seem well trained. Also, if you do dine LA, everyone at the table has to. I assume it's because the appetizers were so small. read more

Unable to dine due to not being a hotel guest I made a reservation for this restaurant for a fun night out with a few friends. Once we got there we were turned away at the entrance stating that we are unable to dine if we were not guest at the hotel. We called the restaurant to confirm since this was told to us by security. They told us that yes it is only for hotel guest and when we proceed to ask then why were we able to make reservations on your website, she said "oh I don't know" and hung up. No where on the website does it state that only hotel guest can dine at this restaurant and I am still able to make a reservation without confirming a room number or anything. read more

Arguably the worst food and service I have had in a very long time. The meat and cheese platter was polish sausage, a few pieces of cheap Brie, jam and some cheddar cheese crisps. This was so bad that we all thought it was a joke. Almost like something you would throw together from scraps. The Caesar salad was another disappointment - warm wilted lettuce with flavorless dressing. We ordered Brussels sprouts with our tomahawk entree, they came out but the steak never did. Updated rating: it turns out the fully refunded my meal, I only found out when I checked out, I greatly appreciate it!! I'd be willing to give them a second chance as a result :) ALK provides the room service for the Godfrey. I ordered a basic breakfast and asked for a glass of orange juice. When it arrived, I was very thirsty, so I went straight for the orange juice, which was in a standard 8oz drinking glass, and looked like cheap OJ but nothing set off alarm bells. I started chugging and almost choked: it was either a mimosa, or really rancid OJ. Not usually a big deal, but I'm 15 weeks pregnant, and am strictly abstaining from alcohol, so if it was a mimosa that of course is horrible; if it was rancid OJ, that puts me at risk for food poisoning, which can be terrible when pregnant. Additionally, I'm lactose intolerant and asked for oat milk for my coffee, but I was given regular dairy milk (luckily I could tell right away before drinking). I called to file a complaint, and they apologized. But that was it, no offer of a refund, or even just something as simple as $5 off my meal (which was $50 for 2 eggs, 2 small sausage patties, some potatoes, a cup of coffee, a glass of OJ, and a croissant, so kinda steep). I mean I feel like the least they could do is not make me pay for the OJ that ended up being alcoholic/rancid. A little would've gone a long way. I'm local and use the Godfrey for staycations, but I might have to rethink that. One thing is clear: I'm never ordering their room service, or eating from this restaurant, again. read more

This review is specific to Valentine Pre-fixe (aka Prix Fixe) menu 2022, and that was the only option. Hubby and I stayed at The Godfrey Hotel, a fabulous hotel which I gave 5-stars, and their one and one restaurant is ALK. ALK's regular menu is also fabulous, not Valentine dinner. 5 course plus brut champagne (yummy). 1st course - cantaloupe w/prosciutto (ok, fruit not in season yet) 2nd course - 2 tiny Miyagis on large bed of salt (too much toppings, not much oyster taste) 3rd course - choice of (a) beef tartare, (b) salmon & mousse on buttered toast (yummy on both) 4th course - choice of entree (a) vegetarian, (b) fried chicken with watermelon and creamy corn polenta with quinoa, (c) "surf and turf" for 2, additional $45 to pre-fixe price) - tomahawk steak and (lobster on Mac & cheese!?!). Hubby and I selected choice (b), only took one bite and boxed it. 2 pieces of rolled chicken of no taste covered in very dark panko breading that is only sweet and no other seasoning tastes if any. Composition of this entree was just all wrong, simplification would be better. 5th course - a shared Dessert, no other choice - just a vanilla ice cream chocolate sundae with a few crumbled (supposedly) brownies. The crumbles looked like something out of packaged brownie cups coarsely chopped, ice cream tasted not fresh; absolutely disappointed for a finishing course. The cost for this pre-fixe was $90 per person to include tax + gratuity. Add $45 is select entree (c). Would have been 5-stars if regular menu + champagne + a fresh good dessert. We saw 3 tables left after looking at menu. We stayed because we didn't want to leave the hotel, had excellent lunch up at the roof top lounge. The staff everywhere there was great. I just discredit the Valentine planner for the evening. Did not have cell so no photos; we were thinking of having a quality romantic evening (Not!). read more
