This is the restaurant formerly known as Ally's Comfort Cafe. I believe they changed ownership during summer 2017, therefore they now have this new name. We visited today and saw a few new faces, but we were happy to see a lot of the wonderful waitresses that we knew from before. If we come here on a weekend, we try to arrive by 9 AM since this is quite a popular spot and gets crowded. Food does come out quickly though and I love that our drink order is taken right after we sit down. We arrived around 12:30 today (after a movie), the place was still hopping, but there were a few empty tables available. I ordered my usual blueberry pancakes, they still taste the same and are quite good. Hubby enjoyed his potato pancakes and hash. The thing I love the most about the pancakes here is that they are so moist, many restaurants make them too dry. Menu design appears to have changed, but a lot of the choices looked the same. About Time Cafe still has the great variety of options that were on the menu before when it was Ally's. This is our go to breakfast spot on weekend days when we are up early! read more

About Time Cafe is an unsuspecting fantastic breakfast restaurant! We were searching for a new breakfast joint and I read all the raving reviews here-- it did not disappoint. From the moment we walked in, the staff was welcoming and friendly. The decor is an older style, but it is very clean and cozy. The food came out incredibly fast! I ordered the breakfast BLT at the recommendation of a table sitting next to us and it did not disappoint! I will definitely be having it again. New favorite breakfast place! I wish I could leave at minimum a 4.5. Previous experiences would've led me to leave 5 stars but today slacked only a spec. I'll still be back and love this place but, "Yay! I'm a fan" means 4 stars. Stellar food. We've only ordered breakfast here so far but it's always served fresh and hot, and never questionable about it's quality which is spot on. There's 2 other breakfast joints I frequent and they all make a mean omelet. Tough to crown a winner but they're equally tied for top dawg in the area. Their grits are different than most, they're thickened up a bit. I love the taste of them but sadly, since I love it, I can tell it's probably not healthy for you. Likely fluffed up with flour, I'd rather something healthier even tho they're very flavorful and the texture is thick and unique. I wish their fruit cups were cheaper than $5.5, or at least discounted if you substitute them instead of their home fries and toast/bagel option. But I get it, bread, bagels, potatoes are a dime a dozen even from a grocery store and if you buy a fruit cup from the same store it's an arm and a leg. So I get it and don't hold a grudge. I do wish they offered something healthier instead of toast / bagel / home fries though. Sliced tomato is $1.5 but if it was offered as a substitute I would've been happier. Service is on point usually, minus today. The awesome cashier multitasks as a runner and checking on the customers, but I always feel guilty about making them run for something when my server, who's paid and tipped to do it isn't to be found. But they still hooked it up as a team. Today specifically the cashier/runner and cook helped us out more than our server which is different. As a fair guy, our server was running around and seemed busy so possibly they were short staffed today. All in all a great experience, just a little off beat today in the service area. Very personable and no bad vibes just didn't get checked on or got refills / hot sauce or anything. 5 star joint, next time I visit I'll update accordingly. Looking forward to coming back. A quick +1 and -1 that dont need to be reviewed but I still will. Thank you for providing the best paper straw I've ever used. Most immediately make me hate life when they stick to my lips or feel like im using a paper towel as a straw or they just fall apart. I love this whole in the wall spot. And the food always deliver , both when you sit inside or order takeout for breakfast. Some of my fav dishes are the potato eggs Benedict, pecan pancakes, Greek omelette ( any omelette really). The inside is not super fancy, it's more of a diner feel with booths and tables. This place is extremely quaint! The staff is EXTREMELY nice and welcoming, they've got that real southern hospitality. I'm not sure of the name our server was but it was the tall gentlemen. He was extremely attentive and nice as was the rest of the staff. It is a little small with about 25 tables but the interior is really nice and clean. They have a few TVs and the tables are nice spaced. The food was simple cafe breakfast food, however it was really well seasoned and cooked it is a lot better than most cafes in the area. I ordered the 2 eggs your way and my girlfriend ordered the breakfast BLT and some pancakes and everything was perfect! I high recommend this place! Will forsure becoming back on a regular basis! Stopped in on a Sunday morning and was very pleased that there was only a short wait and table were definitely distanced. Sanitizer on the tables. We decided to eat here based on my neighbors recommendation. I was really pleased. My Mom and I each had a Mimosa which was not their strong point. We searched for a nice small brunch spot and came across this cute little place. I appreciated the attention from the staff and owner as she walked around and greeted everyone. She wanted to make sure our meals were satisfactory. This was our first time visiting and she gave us souvenirs to make sure we remembered this location. On to the food...The pancakes were HUGE!! Nothing fancy here, just good and affordable well made food. The place could use some upgrading, that being said, the staff is pleasant, the food is good, and the prices are great. The Mexican burrito, chicken and waffles, Mexican bowl, and pancakes are all delicious. The portions are big enough to share, you definitely get your money's worth. First time we went it was just the two of us. Since then we've taken our 4 adult children and their families and, like us, they all keep going back. Love this place for breakfast! Tried they're new pizza offerings on the weekend, fun combinations available. We went with a traditional White Pizza and one called Bee Sting that has Florida hot honey. As you can tell by the picture we were too excited to wait, ate the first slice before taking the picture. I had one of the best breakfasts of my life at About Time Cafe today. The Cowboy Breakfast: 3 eggs, homefries, and brisket sausage. This was so delicious! My brother had the corned beef hash and eggs with a side of homefries. Those homefries! Crispy outside and tender inside and with a little onion. So good! We also shared a yummy cinnamon roll. The service was good, and the prices are reasonable for good quality, well-cooked food. And the place is sunny and nice inside. Definitely going back. Definitely eating the same meal. read more

9/9/2018 - After the Fire Hero 5K in Hollywood we came here to chow down on some breakfast food. We walked in and the lady said she had seen us in the parking lot and already had a table for us. NICE! We sat at a booth. Our server came right away and took our drink order. After looking at the menu, I was in between their basic egg and bacon breakfast or the Greek Omelette. I decided to go with the egg, bacon, grits and toast/ bagel plate. The only thing about my plate I didn't like were the grits. These are not your typical southern grits. They were sweet, they tasted like corn. Portion was great and it was very affordable. All of the food came our hot. After looking at my friend's Greek Omelette I will order it next time. This is a neighborhood restaurant, very laid back and chill atmosphere. Service was friendly and fast. Once, we were done, we sat for a little and talked. They did not rush us at all. On a Sunday morning around 11 we were told that is was going to be about a 20 minute wait and no more than 10 minutes later we were brought to our table. Knowing that it was our first time in, he took his time describing the weekend specials they offered. I also loved that you could see Ally's mom walking around checking in with everyone and introducing herself - She didn't make it our way, but I look forward to meeting her next time and giving her my rave reviews! Now.. the most important part.. FOOD!! Before we even sat down, my fiancé already knew he had to have the corned beef hash and eggs (it's usually his go-to if he's not craving something sweet). At first bite, he just had this look of pure bliss on his face.. best he's ever had. I opted for the Ally's Benedict - Wowza! Picture absolutely amazing potato pancakes topped with a slice of tomato and perfectly poached eggs and hollandaise.. it was heavenly! It was a huge portion so I "made" my fiancé share some of mine.. and he gladly did. Not that I needed it, but I also got a side of grits.. Fantastic addition to my already perfect breakfast. We have always been big fans of the original Aly's on SR 84 in Davie. Our visits tend to be somewhat limited because of my son's love for Aly's luscious but fattening pancakes, and the super long lines on weekends. This Sunday, when we saw the huge line we headed straight up to Aly's Too, on Oakland. I think we we drove there, got seated, ate, and payed the bill in the time it would have taken just to get seated at the original Aly's! Aly's Too has the same exact menu as the Davie Aly's, but it is a much bigger place. When we arrived it was busy but there was no wait. What I love about the staff at both Aly's is that they all hustle. Tables are bused and cleared immediately and orders are taken promptly. We were greeted warmly by Aly's Mom and although the crew is different from the one we know, they were all very warm and friendly. The food is the same home style food we love at Aly's: Diner food with a twist. This morning I enjoyed the Homemade Corned Beef Hash & Eggs. Funny, corned beef hash is something I would never usually eat. In fact, I have never even tried corned beef hash from a can. However, here the dish consists of big chunks of nicely seasoned corned beef and potatoes. Quite tasty, especially when mixed with some over easy fried eggs! It came with grits that were smooth, creamy, and flavorful. Our only complaint is that sometimes both Aly's runs out of specials early. Today Husband wanted to order an Aly's Benedict (a Benedict with a delicious potato pancake). Since they were out, Husband had to settle for Steak and Eggs. He enjoyed the dish, despite his disappointment. Our sons and their friend ordered Aly's special weekend pancake. This week it was Oreo: Two huge chocolate pancakes with a vanilla cream center. All the boys adored the pancakes. By the way, each pancake is huge so two people can really share the dish (unless they have a huge appetite). Each week Aly's has a special pancake. Next week it is Oatmeal Raisin. Once my son submitted a list of new pancake ideas for Aly to try. She picked one of them and added it to her pancake repertoire: Reese's Pieces Pancakes! Aly's Too is a great family diner, with friendly service and delicious food. This location is not as convenient for us as Aly's, but is is great to know that we have another option where we can get some of our favorite breakfast/brunch items! read more

I stumbled upon About Time bc I had a crazy breakfast craving and was in the area. I actually went to Ally's Comfort Cafe first with my heart set on their corned beef hash & grits but they were out of grits (in their defense it was 1 hour before closing). So I searched on Yelp for other spots in the area and decided on here. What a coincidence that About Time is the same place that use to also be Ally's Comfort(I was told Allys sold it over a year ago to the current owners). So the corned beef hash and grits tasted very similar to Allys Comfort, which was good since that's what I wanted in the first place. Thank you universe! My grits had a burnt under taste to them, as if they were taken from the bottom of the pot, but if not for that, I can tell the grits are tasty. The corned beef hash is great. I enjoyed my meal. I got my order to go, so I can't speak to their dine-in service, but the servers who helped me were all nice. Honestly, I don't see myself returning, but not bc I didn't like it. Only bc I'm not in this area that often, so I would have to go out of my way to eat here and, although good, it's not worth going out of my way for. read more

From the minute we walked in to the minute we left, our experience was top notch. Surprisingly we only waited about 10 minutes (if that) to be seated (we were a party of 5). We have been to the Davie location (closer to home) but honestly we loved this location more. The busboy came over to check to see if anyone took our drink order. He then brought everything over and my daughter asked for a kid's cup. He promptly brought it to her and transferred the juice. That little gesture is what customer service is about and we didn't notice a little wait for the server to come. What did we have? My daughter had a bacon egg and cheese bagel. She loved it. My FIL eggs, extra crispy bacon, well toasted bagel and tomato. His order was perfect. My MIL had the 2-2-2 with French toast instead of pancakes. She added on a small grit. The grits were home made and she said you can taste the corn. Again everything was perfect. She had originally changed her mind and her order still came out correct and our waitress was friendly about the change. My husband also has the 2-2-2. He was able to get the special pancake (the smores) which he got for me to share. The pancake was amazing. It comes out looking like it would be super sweet or super rich. It was perfectly balanced. In the words of my 6 year old...it was Deeeeeeelicious! I had an egg white Greek omelette...no tomato add avocado. I also had the grits (which were creamy and not gritty). I didn't have to add anything to it...typically I have to add at least salt. It was lacking nothing. When it was time to leave our waitress asked if we wanted refills. I asked for some coffee to go and she brought me more creamer and a longer spoon for the bigger cup. All in all, our experience was awesome. The food was delicious. The service was perfect. First timer here at Ally's Comfort Cafe, Too. It feels like going to your neighbors for breakfast. Here they did some things well and others decent. This place is clearly loved by the locals as it was packed pretty early in the morning. We got there and just waiting a couple minutes before we were sat. The lobby was quite warm so maybe a fan could be installed. It is sparingly decorated with a cozy feeling. Their corn beef hash breakfast place was delicious and had a great crust with it. The others were okay: french toast, bagel. The usual breakfast suspects. It's a great place to to go to for some neighborhood no fuss cooking but nothing out of this world. So happy we tried this place. Comfy spot in our neighborhood. Last Sunday morning before Christmas lots to do we stopped here and are very happy we did. We were welcomed as we entered brought to our table. You have the option for booth or table. Our waitress shortly came got us our much needed coffee we let her know we never been she shared her favorites with us. We ordered the Breakfast burrito, eggs Benedict and fried grits. Wish we knew of the BOGO mimosas I didn't see until walking out . Coffee was good. Burrito was flavorful, def a mouthful with each bite. It came with a delicious salsa whcih is why we cant wait to come back for the tacos. My eggs Benedict was also satisfying. The ham they chose seemed different than Canadian bacon but was good whatever it is. The fried grits were definitely different, a must try. In all it felt like a good family spot, The servers all look like family seeing the younger servers have that at home feeling. The restaurant feels like your visiting your Chicano family. I ordered the chicken and waffles from here and I have a few suggestions. The waffle portion was really good, it was well cooked and very sweet. However, the chicken did not match at all. A true chicken and waffle dish should have somewhat matching consistencies and flavor. The chicken was dry, tough, and bitter. I highly advise using a lighter and sweeter batter for the fried chicken. Possible soak the chicken in buttermilk over night and use more sugar in your batter. This place deserves all its stars and more. I made a crazy order of steamed spinach with grilled chicken on top and 2 eggs on to of that with mushrooms. Needless to say this was not on the menu. UPDATE: After a long time of not coming here, I was finally able to come back for breakfast with my gf and her daughter. The first thing I noticed is that the name has changed to "About Time Cafe" due to new ownership. Luckily, that was the only major change I noticed. I was happy to see that the same nice ambiance, staff, and food are all still there. We started off with some coffee. My gf ordered the country fried steak that she knows and loves. My gf's daughter had some chocolate chip pancakes with eggs and bacon, which she really enjoyed. One thing to note, the pancakes are pretty big, so one may be enough for children, specially if accompanied with sides. I had the funfetti pancakes, which were the stars of the show. The order came with 2 large warm and fluffy pancakes with a sweet cream and sprinkles. The sweet cream reminded me a bit of the one used in red velvet cake.
