We wanted to seal/cap a buried gas line that went to the backyard bbq pit ... and called several plumbers mostly by looking them up from yelp ... a few of them came by and quoted exorbitantly high prices & didn't look very professional. They tried to scare us saying that most plumbers will not touch gas line & its very expensive job to even make small repairs to it. I wasn't even sure whether they would do a decent job even if we paid them (we had very bad experience with some plumbers a year ago with our kitchen gas line work). Lucky for us, we had Jason from Absolute Pro Plumbing come over to our house. He did a seal test to make sure the buried line wasn't leaking anywhere else. He found that the coupling which connected the line to PGE gas meter was actually leaking & replaced that part. He then proceeded to remove a portion of the gas line under the ground, since we wanted the gas line to be moved closer to the backyard fence. He also helped fix a plumbing leak in our backyard and his work was very professional & clean. When I later found out from him that he has over 16 years of experience as a plumber before starting his own business, it became obvious why he was able to do such a good job. So, I'll tell you my saga... I had been smelling gas in my bedroom off and on for a while. The first time I called PG&E was 2010, they couldn't find anything, I thought I was crazy... finally had a day last week where I could actually smell the gas. Called PG&E, they came right over, yes lady, you have a leak! Yay, gas was turned off, everything is now safe. Now I needed to get it fixed. Talked to a Amir here, he said, "We can fix it, but you need to get the leak detected first. We can't fix it until we know where it is". Sounded reasonable, so I called a leak detection company - "We can't get anyone there until next Monday". Ok, called the next one, and the next one and the next one, finally found one that would come the same night. "Lady, you have 70-year old galvanized pipe, we can't fix it, have to do a full replace. I'll have my boss get you a bid". Ok, also sounded reasonable - at this point, my gas has been off for 48 hours - no hot shower (it's amazing how much we take that for granted!). I wanted a couple of other bids, so I called a couple of other places. Amir had been the first person to give me any kind of straight answer, so I asked him for a bid as well. Amir's bid came in the lowest, and he could start the soonest, I gave him a shot. Amazing work, asked all the right questions, got things done and inspected, didn't assume that I was stupid because I'm a woman, just generally all-around pleasure to work with. I called two plumbing services to give me quotes on work that I had received a horrendous quote on from a larger company that I had used in the past. I highly recommend Absolute Pro Plumbing. One night we came home and saw our carpet was wet. We knew there was a leak but didn't know where. I called Ameer and even though it's was 7pm on a Saturday night (Thanksgiving week), he offered to come by my house and take a look since he was in the area. Ameer saved the day! My water heater decided to go out very early on a weekend and I had a pool size of water spilling everywhere in my garage. I was totally clueless what my first step should be. He sensed the panic in my voice over the phone. He was at a customers home, lucky for me it was not far from my residence.
