Took a group of 8 to lunch after church. We called ahead to request a table set up & it was ready when we arrived. Full disclosure: we are lifelong Texans & have lived in Fort Worth for almost 50 years; therefore, we consider ourselves Tex-Mex connoisseurs. Kayla was our very helpful & efficient server. She answered our questions pleasantly & with excellent knowledge of the extensive menu. I had the Durango Burrito & it was large enough to take home for another meal. The seasoned beef inside of it was delicious. We ordered chile con queso dip with meat & it was also a delicious appetizer with crispy chips. The only negative observation was that the portion of the lunch-size quesadillas was smaller than expected. We usually have leftovers but my husband finished his entire plate & enjoyed it all. So we decided to try this place because we had lived in three different states and are looking always for a better mexican restaurant That is similar to california mexican food. First of all, the happy hour, we sat at the bar and the margaritas were pretty good. I decided to get fe raspberry high biscuits margarita and wow, you get the whole glass plus extra in a shaker. The food is very good, we ordered the grande and it was plenty for two people to share but I especially loved the green salsa. Our server was super sweet and delivered excellent service, refills were provided before the previous drink was empty, she noticed we enjoyed the green salsa and brought out extra, all this at 8:30 on a Thursday. Came here for a birthday. Stuck 8 of us at a 6 seater table. Did have to put my food in my lap when it came because there was not enough room for our drinks and our plates. They use big plates for all their food. Started with a hibiscus margarita. It was flavorful and served a little martini glass with a sugar rim. Only had one because of the price of it. Ordered a dip that had a spicy qurso, regular queso, and a bowl of salsa in it. The spicy queso wasn't very spicy and the normal queso didnt have a lot of flavor. I preferred there spicy salsa more than their normal salsa. So wasn't totally impressed with that trio I started out with. I got a fish that had a little bit of everything. Chicken, beef, and cheese enchilada. A taco, a beef tamale, and a cheese filled and fried pablano. Had queso as thw sauce i wanted served on top of it. Wasn't able to eat half of it which was my plan. I wanted to take food home for later. The cheese filled pablano was alright. The breading on it was kinda greasy. Taco was full and the meat had good flavor. The chicken enchilada was my favorite. Moist chicken and very filled enchilada. The cheese one I could have done without and the beef enchilada was good but had lots of grease coming out of it. Overall it was just a mediocre visit. This abuelos is nice and I love that it's easy to park at. The food is good and if you know what you like consistent. (Love me a Durante burrito). I would say the serving staff needs a little work. They just always seem inexperienced which leads me to believe there is high turnover over. Would love to have great service to go with the good food. Let's celebrate Cinco de Mayo! My wife and I hadn't been to Abuelo's in quite a while and decided to dine there since we were in the area and it WAS Cinco de Mayo. We ordered some queso to start the celebration off with along with a couple of their special margaritas. I love the variety of sauces that Abuelos serves. Mixing sauces is a lot of fun with their thin crispy tortilla chips. I even like their green sweet sauce. Their queso was wonderful, creamy and gooey, just like we like it. My wife decided on the chicken fajita taco platter and I opted for the Juarez platter. It had a crispy beef taco, tamale and two enchiladas, one chicken and one cheese. Both platter came with rice and beans. I decided to order Abuelos "Papas con Chile" instead of beans. I always enjoy them. for a change every now and then. Both of our entrées were delicious and served on piping hot platters. That's always a nice touch at Abuelos, the food always comes out HOT. My wife and I had a very enjoyable visit to Abuelos to celebrate Cinco de Mayo. Our server took excellent care of us while we were there. We don't do alot of chain restaurants but we were in the area and craving Mexican. Our server was the best and on top of everything. You get three types of salsa with chips and all three were delicious. We ordered enchiladas and fajitas and they did not disappoint. The beef fajitas were seasoned beautifully and so tender!!! You get all the toppings and it is definitely enough food for two. I got the papas con chili (?) and they were so so good! We came here after my niece's volleyball game and I honestly wish we would've just gone somewhere else. The queso tasted as if it came straight out of a jar and lacked flavor. My entree (chicken enchiladas) tasted as if they heated up the ingredients in the microwave. Even though the food wasn't my favorite, the staff at the restaurant were very kind and personable. We had lunch with friends at the Abuelo's off I20 in Arlington today. Our waiter was Chez. He was one of the best waiters ever. Very polite. Heard the name of our birthday friend and started calling him by his name. That is very profession. Calling a customer by name is a great gesture. So Chez was great and the food was wonderful, As it always is at Abuelo's. Their food is just fresh and delicious. Let me start this off by saying that I've been a waitress for the last 7 years, everything from sports bars to Japanese fine-dining, and I've never seen slower service. Our server was very polite, though it was clear he was either overwhelmed or simply needed more hands on the table. We had a 20 top that turned into 40, which means we were already expecting to wait a little longer to compensate. However, it took almost 30 minutes for waters to hit the table, another 35 minutes for our only round of drinks to arrive - some of which took even longer (these being a Dr. Pepper, chocolate milk, and lemonade) - another hour for appetizers, and finally food came out at the 2.5 hour mark. Food came out one dish at a time, and A THIRD of the food came out incorrectly. Half of our party had finished their food AND left before others even got their meals. We never received water refills, very little attention was paid to our tables throughout the night. The fastest service we got was for to-go boxes. The food was good, though some plates were cold, so at least there was that positive. All in all, the only negative part of the experience was how long it took to for literally everything. read more

B/c I've been to Hulen mall dozens of times I decided to try Abuelos and I'm glad I did. It wasn't super busy and service was fantastic. Ordered the sampler and can i tell you between the salsa trio, chips which was my least fav of the meal and the sampler I would have been good. I ordered a classic margarita and it was pretty strong and tasty just the way I like it. Very good food and service. I had the Pechuga con Calabaza which was a sautéed chicken breast in a spicy, creamy sauce with zucchini, chilis and corn. It was very good. My co-worker had the chicken tortilla soup which he enjoyed. The three salsas they serve were excellent, a two mild with one having a hint of pineapple and smoked, spicy one. The food was mediocre but the waiter was super nice. I was annoyed by no sparkling water or even filtered water for that matter. Waiter informed us the bar had Dasani which if you read the label, you'll understand why I politely declined that option. Margaritas was 1/5 - very watery and flavorless. You can never go wrong with Abuelo's. It is one of my favorite, go-to staples in Mexican food, at least when it comes to large chain restaurants. I have to admit, there is not a dish that I have tried there so far that I have not enjoyed, but my two favorite are their Steak and Enchiladas and the Mi Abuelos Manjar, stacked enchiladas with two eggs served over the top. The first time I saw that dish, I had major reservations, but a helpful server ensured me that she felt the same way, before she tried it. I took her advice and now it is one of my favorite Mexican servings of all time. One of my favorite things about Abuelo's is their Chips and Salsa / Queso. They serve some of the lightest, crispiest, fresh made tortilla chips you can find anywhere, along with endless bowls of their incredible salsa. Add a bowl of queso to the mix and I could make a meal out of that itself. The only thing preventing a fifth star this time around was some of their struggles were limited menu choices (pandemic related I am sure) and a rather mouthy manager that I will just assume was having a bad night. First restaurant for us to go since COVID. Tables were spaced out, lots of space to be far enough from the other patrons. Paper menus and had a QR code in the middle of the table to view their menu.
