Amazing! We needed a place that was open late for a post-concert bite. This was one of the only places open so we gave it shot...and we were NOT disappointed. Everything we ordered was just so good! The grilled edamame was the best edamame I've ever had. Everything off the grill was superb. The miso soup was so good. I'm so glad we stumbled on this place by chance! Everything was seriously so amazing here! The dishes are all had thoughtful details and the chef can puts a lot of care into everything he makes on the grill. Grilled flank set combo: I had this well done but it was still so tender!! Even the potatoes that came with this dish was absolutely amazing. Very crispy skin that it actually separates from the inside. But the inside is very soft. Again, it was subtly flavored but just enough you can taste it. Nicely marinated and cooked to perfection. Potato salad was still fluffy and light. Tofu had a great sauce and texture. Miso soup was different it had a refreshing taste because of all the vegetables in it. Shishito peppers: my favorite dish!! Grilled to perfection and it's slightly sweet from the sauce. It comes with Japanese mayo and bonito flakes. Very flavorful. Highly addicting! Japanese style pork belly: comes in a thick broth. It's subtle in flavor with a slight hint of a flavor I can't pinpoint. Meat is super soft. Overall, everything here was surprisingly good!! Servers are super nice, you can tell they care what they are here. Street parking. Great ambience to chill. I highly recommend this place. read more

Great food and very friendly staff. I'm visiting from Honolulu from NYC for the first time and this was probably one of my favorite spots. I had aburiyaki beef flank, which was incredibly juicy and tender. It was cooked perfectly! Also had the chicken karage which was delicious and had great flavor. Most karage I've tried before were dry but this wasn't! My only criticism is the lack of selection for their desert menu (they only had green tea), but I guess you can go somewhere else for dessert. Highly recommend you come here for dinner! I would definitely come back here again if I return to Oahu. read more

Wasabi Tako, jellyfish, shishito peppers, and Konbu cabbage are highly recommended if you like those foods!!! It all tasted so fresh! The name 'Aburiya' mean grilled meats should be the attraction, but don't overlook the sides. I usually pan fry my shishitos, so grilling them took it to a new level for me. Everything is heavy on sesame, shiso, and yuzu, if that's what you like. The chicken thigh had an unfamiliar taste from the marinade- it wasn't for me, but it was extremely juicy and cooked perfectly. $3 Asahi on tap (happy hour 1:30-5) and a $6 very smooth Japanese whisky easily fixed that!! It was a one man show (host, bus, server, cook!) and he is very polite and I can tell a very diligent man. Much respect, he opened up during quarantine!! I had take out a couple times prior. Overall a great experience and I am looking forward to eating there again and trying more things, like the nikomi! read more

Missed quite a few tiems ojr first try. The gentleman serving me overcharged me and alsp added a bag fee to my tab. He seemed to lack a lot of care and thought i was dumb as a brick .he seemed pretty dumb tbh. Theshort male server. Serving sizes of soup were verrry skimpy and were the rice.. I noticed a microwave door open a few times during my stay at aburiya. We also ran out of rice. Who runs out of rice at a japanese restaurant? : aburiya ibushi Some of the items were pretty good. But the quality of produce seemed like it was purchased at walmart or well don quixote. Pours are heavy here. Bathroom here is lol. Smells pretty bad. Baby wipes flushed are probably a bad idea. This restaurant just opened in the middle of March. They have wide stylish clean open kitchen with Charcoal grilling station in the middle. If you like to watch their cooking while you're waiting, I do recommend to sit counter seat area!! Also I love their wall decor. It reminds me authentic Japanese Izakaya. The manager who is from Kansai, he is very nice guy and has passion for his food!! If you're a MEAT lover, you should check this place. The food that I ordered, everything was outstanding. We've been to many Japanese restaurants on the island and was just driving by and decided to try this place out. We were just in Japan in March and this place reminded us of an izakaya like we went to in Hokkaido. We are so happy that we did! We learned that they've been open for three years and while we didn't meet the owner, we meet Taku. Our food was delicious and the staff was very friendly! Next time we are on the island, we will definitely come again. We have family here and we will be sure to let our family know to come try this place out. Really, really hate to be one of the only person leaving a bad review... but really was just not that great... Or good... at all... /: Beef Flank Steak Set: It was chewy and marinade was nothing special. Lacked in flavor. And as you know flank is the cheapest cut of steak. Potato salad tasted like any other. Side salad wasn't very pickled as it should've been. Miso soup was like packaged miso soup, and they added cabbage inside the miso soup... really weird. Tofu was just cold tofu sitting on what just tasted like light soy sauce. Chicken thigh set: it tasted like your normal chicken thigh. I could throw a chicken thigh on the bbq grill and burn it a bit and it'd taste the same, maybe better because it was really dry. Yuzukosho was the only thing that was decent in whole dish. The way the chicken was cut up too was just lazy and disproportionate. And, as was the steak... they were cut up in 1" 2" 5" cuts. Bizzare cutting. Like a child cutting up your meat for you. One bite tonkatsu: the tonkatsu sauce was alright... the tonkatsu itself was chewy and had a lot of tendon and was hard to chew and swallow. Spinach on the side was just tossed on with some dressing that was over dressed on one side and no dressing on other side. Onion salad: red onion... bad idea for a salad, just too strong of an onion to use for a salad. I'd recommend maybe using white or yellow onion and slicing it really thin, one bite of this you should not be socializing with anyone. Sake: first place where I paid $10.5 for a shot of sake with no overpour... typically that box you have your shot glass over they keep pouring until half the box is filled, but they only fill the shot glass itself here... that was so sad for an almost $11 shot of sake. SAKE. That whole big bottle probably cost $15. Jellyfish: jellyfish was good, too much sesame oil, but it was good with beer. Ambiance: small (few tables and bar seating), smoky as heck (walked in and could barely see through the room), loud (inside and outside. Door is left open due to the smokiness of the restaurant). Service was good, nothing awesome just normal service. Overall, Its so frustrating, I really wanted to like this place, but it disappointed me and my company so much. Missed all the marks in terms of food with us. Nothing made us want to come back. With 5/5 stars I expected so so much, but left here so sad that I spent that much money here. I wish I could understand how all the other reviews loved this place.. Im sorry, but it was really bad actually. Would not recommend... had much better Izakaya, or Japanese bbq elsewhere. When we walked into the store, felt like we were in an Izakaya in Japan. The smells, the motif and the all-Japanese staff. Food - Almost everything is either grilled or smoked. We started with grilled asparagus, grilled shishito peppers and agedashi tofu. We followed with beef flank, pork belly and karaage sets. The set adds rice, miso soup, Japanese cold marinated vegetables and cold tofu to the basic order. We shared the main dishes family style. The taste was awesome for all dishes, and everything was cooked just right. Nothing over or under cooked, and all the hot meals hit our table hot. Service - When you enter the store, the entire staff greets you with the standard Japanese expression of welcome (Irasshai Mase!). From the time we were seated until checkout, the service was consistent and efficient. Ambiance - My Japanese wife and our Japanese friend agreed that the service, the smells and the motif took them back to Japan. A great all-around casual dining experience that is definitely worth a return visit. read more

And get the oxtail curry - meat so tender and the curry so flavorful (just like Japan). The special curry rice croquettes were a great fusion between arancini and curry rice. I decided to try this place out because I was walking by and saw all the construction going on. It was nice and cozy inside. They're doing only takeout at this time due to the ongoing events. I decided to get their pork belly dish to go. The cooking process made the meat taste unique. I live my poke belly flavorful and with a good amount of fat. This is really delicious. While I waited the gentleman who took my order gave me a cup of water to drink as my food was being made. I was really impressed by that. Ok. It is smoky- they don't have adequate ventilation for the smoke from the grill. We ate the shio chicken thighs - chef kiss yum. Hubs loved the condiment - yuzu pepper sauce. We had the beef flank too - tender and flavorful. And the kurobata sausage was yum too. The yuzu sorbet to top it off was the perfect palate cleanser and last taste perfection.
