My husband and I are in the process of doing a large gut renovation for an apartment in a co-op on the Upper West Side in Manhattan. I've been speaking with architects, contractors and builders and have spent time in many showrooms in the city. No one was as helpful, knowledgeable or clear as Matt Sax (at ABW) was about the various products, the reasons he recommended each and what I should be thinking about or looking for in an appliance. He made the thought of selecting each of these items feel not only more manageable, but actually sound exciting. And this was on the phone! I have tried to convince Matt to allow me to buy the products from him but he has made the reasonable point that I live a bit too far away. Despite this, he was exceedingly helpful and patient with my questions. I can only imagine how excellent a salesperson he is when you're there in person and eligible to buy from your showroom. If I sound very enthusiastic about his work, it's because I am! Matt stands in sharp contrast to so many other salespeople who have much more limited patience, and more importantly a more limited fund of knowledge. I ordered a Bosch wall oven in April. By July it was not working. ABW came out 3 times and finally admitted they could not repair it. Each time it took more than a week to have the repair person come and then even longer to get the parts - so in all the repair people have been to my house 5 times only to decide it was not repairable. So from July until now I have not had a properly functioning wall oven. After it was determined that they could not fix it, no one called me afterwards to say what they next steps would be. I have now called at least 5 times to see when I will be able to get a new oven and they keep telling me that they are waiting for Bosch to get back to them. Now just in time for the holidays I do not have a functioning wall oven. read more

This place is tucked way back in a hard to access corner of a suburban decay zone ... but it's worth your while to check it out if you are in the market for some high end appliances for your remodel. The showroom has a lot more stuff and a lot nicer setting than you'd guess from the loading-dock-based main entrance. You need to make an appointment. I got some guy Chris at random ... and he was very helpful, answered lots of questions, and is preparing quotes on a whole range of items. I guess the real proof comes if we actually buy something from them ... but so far, so good. read more

Should have read the Yelp reviews before buying from them. I bought almost $10K worth of appliances but they wouldn't take back the refrigerator when I wanted to return it. I called the day after it was delivered and the answer was a flat out NO. I said I would pay a restocking fee even, but they refused. Had no interest in working with me after the sale was made. ended up working with Best Buy on my new refrigerator and they offer 15 day return policy. that sounds like a better way to go. I bought a washer and dryer from these folks in the fall after a very negative experience with another company. The customer service from ABW was great - they are responsive and prompt and also very honest about what they can and can't do and what timelines they do and don't control with getting the goods from the vendors. I really appreciated the free measurement as part of the service; another company charged me $95 to come out and measure my space and then stopped returning my calls. I have gone back to ABW to get a dishwasher and appreciate their integrity. read more

They lost my business. I was ready to drop $5,000 to $7,000 on 4 appliances with them OVER THE INTERNET. However, after being played like a fool, and eventually not hearing back from anyone after 2 weeks, I took my money elsewhere. I was able to wrap up a deal with someone else in less than a week and it took almost 2 months to get nowhere with ABW. I understand we had to start from scratch regarding measurements, but after not hearing back from anyone, I guess they decided they didn't want my money. I was nothing but polite and grateful in my emails for everything the employee did, even though I would go days without a response, he would never remember who I was when I called, and didn't seem too interested. Every time it was "ok, let me call you back," and never did. Always too busy for me. I will never, ever deal with this company again. Huge waste of my time. This is not my only home, nor was it my final project for this kitchen. They lost out on a lot of money. After reading the other reviews, I guess this was a blessing in disguise. Michael Coffman was an excellent sales person. He is very knowledgeable about the products he sells and was one of the most responsive and helpful sales people we dealt with on our entire kitchen renovation. For the most part ABW was great. Their pre site inspection requirement is too rigid when it's a whole kitchen renovation and is an overall annoying process. The salespeople are unfortunately inconsistent with their level of competency and service. I visited with 2 different people at different Abw locations before finding michael. For some it seems it's a chore to follow up with more information, even after I followed up to make sure I didn't fall through the cracks! So, the 5 stars is mostly for Michael. I'm sure there are other great salespeople there, but it can be hard to find them! Michael is definitely dependable and knowledgeable and deserves your business! read more

I purchased a new liebherr 30 inch refrigerator for my basement 05/2018. A little over one month later, the refrigerator and freezer stopped cooling and my food was ruined. I called and scheduled a service appointment and about 2 days later. The morning of the appointment, the refrigerator started cooling again. The tech said everything was fine. One day later, the temperature started rising again in the freezer. Someone came out again 4 days later and ran some tests and said that a part needed to be replaced and it would take 5-7 business days for it to ship. Something didn't seem right to me, as this is a one month old, somewhat high-end refrigerator. I was told that a replacement would not likely be possible because it had been only one service call. I ask, who should expect even one service call for a one month old refrigerator. Buyer beware of ABW! Poor customer service. read more

I bought a full set of fairly high end kitchen appliances from ABW. They were great to work with and very responsive throughout the process from order to installation. Defining the kitchen took quite a bit of time with the kitchen installer, with lots of changes. The ABW salesman was very responsive in building new quotes or helping us decide on options. He was easy to work with, and helped us throughout the process. The installation was also a bit complicated, owing to some issues not foreseen by the kitchen designer (not ABW's fault). Once again ABW was easy to work with, and was very flexible in sending the install people out a few times to clear up the issues. They were able to get guys there quickly to meet a couple of deadlines. Overall I was extremely satisfied working with them. They are an organization that really does seem to put customer satisfaction first. It goes without saying, but we're very happy with the way the appliances look and work. read more

I'm a Building Engineer in D.C. We contacted this company to service our two rooftop grills. They sent out a Tech a couple of days later who was knowledgeable in trouble shooting the problem. He stated we needed an ignitor box and light switches. We requested the parts be ordered immediately and use speedy shipping (due to the high use of our grilles). I called this company a day later to confirm the order and recommended to have the parts shipped to us at the quickest shipping rate. Three days past and I heard nothing from them; I called and they haven't received the parts yet. Almost a week later, and still no parts. I ordered the needed parts from another grill wholesale company in Ca. We received the parts overnight two days later. I got the parts and installed them myself and the grills are now working great. Thereafter, I called ABW Appliance and advised them to send the parts directly to my building whenever they get them (disregard the quick shipping now). Mysteriously, I got the parts in from ABW the very next day. One and a half hours after I received the parts, I received a call from ABW stating that they just got the parts in and they wanted to set up a time for their Tech to come out and install them. Apparently, ABW had no clue that the parts was on my desk while she was speaking to me and she was surprise that I had them. The main reason I had to give this company a two star rating is because I'm not an Appliance Wholesaler; but I was able to get replacement parts far quicker from the west coast then they was able to get from Virginia. They have nice appliances but look elsewhere for service! They take forever to get back to you - and this was for a sale because our old appliance had broken! No sense of urgency at all on their part, no recognition on how people's lives may be affected by, say, a broken dishwasher or washer/dryer. AND to boot, when scheduling to come out for service/inspection/etc, they require you to commit to a day, but they won't commit to a window of time until the day prior to the appointment. Ridiculously unprofessional!!! There have to be better service providers out there! read more

I ordered a dishwasher from ABW in early december. It worked for about a month and then stopped. I kept thinking we were doing something wrong but eventually realized it was the dishwasher. We called and asked for someone to come out which took weeks and weeks -they said because of the pandemic. Someone finally came and said that it was an electrical panel fault. Nothing we did. They had to order a part. It's now May and we have been almost half a year without a dishwasher. We ordered from them despite the fact that they are more expensive than mass retailers (like home depot) because we assumed they would have better customer service. But that has not been the case at all. They have never contacted us with updates about the repai . We are always the ones to call. The part we need seems to be on permanent back order. They have not taken responsibility or replaced the dishwasher. We have spend $3000 and for the past 5 month and foreseeable future we are still hand washing. read more

We purchased an oven from ABW about 3 years ago and had a great experience with the sales and installation. Everything professional, no complaints. Recently, we needed a service call to get the glass cleaned and, again, a great experience. From the person in the office who took the appointment to the repair person who came to our home - we couldn't be more satisfied with ABW. They may be a little more expensive than Best Buy but you absolutely get what you pay for, ie., a professional operation with professional, well trained staff. My Bosch washer was under warranty and ABW was sent to repair it. Technicians arrived on time, professionally dressed, extremely courteous. They repaired my washer in about 30 min. Sears Appliance repair had previously attempted to repair my washer under my home warranty and they arrived late and damaged my hardwood floors. My only complaint is that the customer service department returned my call 2 days after I had left a message to follow up on scheduling the repair appointment. read more

I purchased a Best Cirrus kitchen exhaust fan from ABW, and I am in the process of also purchasing a cooktop and dishwasher from them. I am in the process of a home remodel, and I spent a lot of time researching products and prices and had been to several other appliance locations and websites, and I was very pleased with the ABW show room and sales team. BLAKE W. is an excellent sales person! He was had a very good understanding of the products, took time to understood what I wanted and my budget, and explained to me the pros and cons to ensure that I would be satisfied with my purchase. As a result, I am not only buying more, but Blake has gained a customer for life (whoever goes first!). What makes ABW and Blake different? 1) He showed and discussed with me high and mid- appliance, and made very HELPFUL suggestions that did not appear to be based on selling me the most expensive product or some hot-shot promotion that didn't meet my needs. 2) Blake has a great memory and recalled details that I forgotten, which proved very helpful, 3) ABW sales people work as a team, and even when Blake was not in the store, they took the time to work with me - even sending out specs. 4) Price is always a factor with me, so when I purchased another product elsewhere, the response was "you got a good deal," and it ensured that I would look to them for the rest of purchases -- even several of their competitors, including a nearby big box store, told me their prices are hard to beat! The store is well laid out, conducive to shopping, and they cook goodies using some of the appliances. I didn't feel rushed, their sitting area gave me a place to think and do more research. It was worth well worth my time driving from DC and navigating to find the store. I have spoken to most of the sales persons there, and they are all impressive, and from diverse backgrounds, which is something I like to see when I shop. Updated review... While I feel my initial criticism of ABW was warranted, it is only fair to report back when a company does the right thing by its customer. ABW acknowledged the storage fee policy was not stated at the time of purchase and is waiving the storage charges. The policy is now firm and clear to all customers, so any such charges would not be a surprise or arbitrary as they came across in my case. A large part of Customer Service is acknowledging mistakes and doing the right thing. In that area, ABW jumped up quite a bit from my initial impression and earned a significantly better rating. read more

Kudos to appliance repair technician Dan, who professionally and correctly repaired a refrigerator leak, and initiated a repair of a leaky dishwasher, that has defied repair by several other repairmen. Holding back the final star until the repair occurs and is successful, but my guess is Dan will do the trick on this troublesome problem. And ABW has been great in working with us through this problem. Poor repair service. I had a very similar experience to Patrick K below which also happened to involve a Thermador oven that needed repair. Contacted ABW and of course had to pay $155 to have the service man come and read the blinking lights. Then scheduled service for which I also had to initiate the follow up. Fast-forward two weeks, servicemen arrive 2 hours late with incomplete parts so oven still not working. Take home message - don't buy Thermidor and don't use ABW for service. read more

I am very disappointed with my recent experience at ABW. What occurred felt like nothing short of bait and switch. The staff seemed knowledgeable, but at every turn things were promised initially and then rescinded later. We were quoted prices and sent proposals with the same price but on downgraded models - different then the ones we had discussed. They then refused to honor the original pricing. We were told discounts would be made on installation and then later told they were sorry but the discounts couldn't happen. The excuse was always that someone else said "no". In the end it was apparent to me that the salesperson could not be trusted and we are going to purchase elsewhere. If you choose to go here make sure you leave the store with everything in writing and that you are absolutely certain which appliance (and especially which model) they are referring to. read more

Sent their tech to repair my beverage center. Have used him before and he is good, but as he put the beverage center back into the cabinet, our newly refinished floor got deeply nicked in two places and he clipped the bottom trim on our kitchen cabinets, causing it to pop off. ABW would not stand behind their tech's damage and refused to make or cover the repairs. We are now paying a carpenter to come out to fix the trim and we have to hire a flooring guy to come and fix the two deep nicks in the floor. Beware, the next time you need an appliance repair. ABW is not worth the time, money and stress one must go through to fix ABW's damage. Also, you are better off purchasing from Discount Appliance Distributors ("DADs") in Beltsville, as you will save hundreds of dollars over ABW. FYI. read more

When I was planning my kitchen redo in 2015 I was so lucky to find the showroom at ABW. When I walked into store I was quickly greeted by a salesman named Blake. He showed my ranges, refrigerators, and a dishwasher. While at the store I placed my order and had the items shipped on time according to my contractors schedule. I purchased an inexpensive Frigidaire microwave from them, and in less than two months, it started to make a grinding sound and stopped heating. Service came out, diagnosed the problem, but didn't have the parts so they scheduled another appointment. Service, which seems quite competent, put the new parts in, but in less than a month, the grinding noise started again, and the microwave didn't heat. Service came out, stated that they would contact Frigidaire, and I would hear back. I received SEVEN calls from Frigidaire, from different people, asking the same questions, asking that I call back and each time I did, it would take four prompts and long waiting time to speak to someone who knew absolutely nothing. I didn't want the same model, as it is clearly faulty, but ABW refuses to give me the option to buy another model, maybe even more expensive, and I'm fairly certain that this new microwave will be defective too. I will have had five appointments with APB, and each one has a waiting window of four hours, which will make five days of waiting most of the day for them to show up. A responsible company would have handled all the back and forth from Frigidaire without my involvement and would have given me an appointment time without waiting, as compensation for all the other wasted appointments. The service men are quite knowledgeable; it's too bad that for such an inexpensive appliance, so much time and effort have been wasted. read more

From the time and attention to detail I received from the sales person (she even caught a mistake my designer made) to the installation team, the whole experience was wonderful. There was a mistake in scheduling which pushed my service back. When the men came they had ordered the wrong part. I provided them with the serial # and brand of the product so this was a company error. I asked if the part could be overnighted and they said they aren't liable for the $50 overnight fee. I canceled the job. I realize this will prolong the process of getting the washer fixed but I can't support this business with the $300 dollars they were charging. read more

A fine selection of appliances, but I strongly advise caution with these people after they advised me to buy hardware that didn't fit and tried to charge me for returning it. I placed a $21,000 order with ABW that included a Viking stove and a Subzero refrigerator, and provided them with the specs and measurements of the kitchen that it would be installed in. Despite my warnings they insisted that an 84-inch refrigerator could be installed under an 84-inch ceiling, but when the time came to install the fridge could not be stood up - and the company tried to charge me $4,000 to give it back. The conflict lasted for weeks and they only relented and let me buy a different model after I threatened to report them to the Better Business Bureau. Installation of the replacement fridge was shoddy - the freezer door never shut properly and ices up. They also wired the dishwasher to the garbage disposal circuitry. read more

I made an appointment with Steven Nelson, who was terrific in answering my numerous questions and helped me select a refrigerator that met my needs and budget. Then my husband wanted the refrigerator I chose to have an in-door water dispenser, so I took him there to see why I had decided against one. Steven mentioned the in-sink water purifier as an option, which is what we purchased, and love. We also purchased a refrigerator (more space without the water disp.) and washer dryer. Steven coordinated the delivery to meet our contractor's schedule. Another big plus with ABW, unlike most stores, they do all repairs including while the appliance is under manufacturers warranty. My experience purchasing appliances for my new home was phenomenal and I highly recommend ABW. Blake, the salesperson in the Rockville store, was extremely knowledgable and went out of his way to get answers to my questions, even months after my initial appointment. He first took the time to get to know me and understand my needs and priorities, which is something that no one else had done previously. The others just wanted to sell me appliances, but Blake wanted to make sure that he understood what my priorities were and what features were must-haves. He worked with me to mix and match a perfect appliance package, while being very respectful of my budget. I never felt like he was trying to "upsell" me. I have sent friends there and compared his prices to other major appliance dealers in the area and ABW's prices were the lowest by far. ABW has a great selection on the floor, knowledgable, friendly staff and competitive pricing. I would highly recommend them to anyone shopping for a single appliance or for appliances to fill an entire home. I went in recently to buy a grill. I was deciding between Alfresco and Lynx brands. Blake answered all of my questions and made it very simple for me to decide on which one was the best for my purposes after all my online research had been exhausted. I was most surprised to see how much less they were selling the grill for than online retailers (even Amazon). So far my experience in ordering and choosing the grill has been wonderful! I should receive the grill in a week or so and hopefully that part of the process will be just as smooth! read more

This place is awful. They care more about saving a buck than saving a customer. GM Brooke Chandler is not helpful; she did nothing to make things right. The repair team is incompetent and ruined our floors installing a new dishwasher when our first quickly broke. And when our new fridge broke (seeing a theme here?) we went 8 weeks without a fridge, and if we hadn't been persistent, they'd be fine with us never having one... as they will NEVER return your calls, ever. We were told Brooke would make things right, but because our model of fridge was on indefinite backorder, we asked for a fridge from ABW that was comparable -- they said we had to get a cheaper one or pay the difference. After so many weeks and endless mistakes, they couldn't suck it up to make it up to an extremely disappointed customer? We spent thousands at this place. They don't care once they have your money. Save yourself the trouble and go to an actual retail store where you have a shot of being treated with respect, and they care about repeat business. read more

My experience with ABW was nothing short of tremendous. Yes, they have a great selection of appliances and very competitive prices. But that doesn't come close to measuring up to their customer service. We found that the staff at ABW, and Steele in particular, really go out of the their way to show the customer how much ABW values them. They stick by their word and simply do the right thing, even when they could likely get away doing less. My only complaint is that they are so darned far away from us!
