So when my brother told me that C&M had a good deal on a particular blank (that's the rod without any guides or reels attached yet, Mabel), I couldn't pass up the opportunity. So on a nice Saturday morning, I made the long drive out to San Dimas and... closed Saturdays due to COVID. Currently, they're operating on a three day mid-week 4 hour schedule. Not to be denied, I called on a Tuesday at 1:50ish, and Colleen said, "we close at 2." Thankfully, she offered to open up for me if I drove out again. Very cool. I arrived at 2:30 or so, and Colleen spent the time helping me put my project together: guides, reel seat, winding checks, EVA handles... appreciated the service. COVID's impact on their supply chain is notable, but it's affecting everyone, and you can't hold it against a small shop when their suppliers are hurting too. We're all in this together. Not a good experience :( During the SoCal heatwave this week…read moremy A/C stopped working. I wanted to have a local company do the work so I searched online and in local mailers. Ameduri was one of 3 companies I called that could come out the same day. Their $85 Service Call was a little more then the others, but we needed it fixed ASAP. They arrived on time and after I filled them in that everything works except the blower motor they started to diagnose the HVAC. Within about 15 minutes Derek told me that they needed to do a more comprehensive system check that would cost $145. I asked what's the difference from the $85 I was told? He said the $85 would be for a simple fix, like a dead battery or something and this would take them longer to check everything. I told him that I felt like the service call should already include checking everything. Derek's reply was "We can pack up and leave." Right there I should have let them go, but I still had no AC and the 1st company wasn't going to work out. This didn't sit well with me but I agreed. I was about to call their office to question what I felt was a little bait and switch like, when I realized that Derek is the owner. A little over a hour later (2:20pm) he told me that the motor is bad. He said the office is looking to see if they could find a replacement and they will call me with a quote when they find it. Then, the 3rd HVAC company arrived right after, within 15 minutes of testing told me the motor was bad. He showed me what they checked in order to rule out the Control Board, ECM, relays and fuses. They even showed me how everything else worked but the motor. The technician found a supplier with the replacement, picked it up and returned to finish the repair including a thorough system check before 5:00pm. They went above and beyond and he wasn't even the company owner!! Meanwhile, I barely received an email from Ameduri a day later that they are still looking for a replacement motor. Thanks a lot...
