I needed a couple of keys made to my gate and front door. Sounds simple right? Apparently, that is wrong. I had keys made at Home Depot, they did not work at all. I then tried the Sears "key shack" on Lawrence, those keys worked sort-of (if you wiggled the key and got it to just the right spot - not an easy task for some reason). I read Kathy M's review of Ace Lock & Key and decided to give them a try. I had four keys made and every one of them works flawlessly! It is such a small thing but to have a key that works with out "jiggling" it makes coming home with a bunch of bags in tow a much less painful event! All I know is they can take an apparently difficult key to copy and make duplicates that work perfectly! read more

I went to this place with my door lock, and wanted him to fix it for me. The next day I went to pick it up, and he charged me $50 for the repair. When I went home, I seen the part was not fixed. I went back to him to get my money back, but he refused to give it back. He said he tried to fix it, but that he was not able to. Very bad business practice going on here, I would not recommend this place to anyone if you are looking for a lock smith. read more

The locksmith who owns this business is fantastic. The key I have for my mailbox did not work well on my mailbox. It was a struggle every time I got my mail. I went to Ace Lock & Key to see about replacing the lock on my mailbox. The locks on older mailboxes, which mine is, are not easily available. He looked at my key and decided to cut a new one for me. I don't know what magic he performed, but my new key opens the mailbox with ease. He is a master at his profession. read more

Just moved into a new home and needed our locks changed. We originally had a 7:00am appointment and the guy called at 5:00am (we were still sleeping) to say he couldn't make it. His phone apparently went to the wrong time zone so he was not aware that it was 5:00am. He rescheduled for 5:30pm the same day. He arrived on time and changed out the locks very quickly. He even discounted our rate by $15 because he felt bad about calling us so early. If we need a locksmith for anything in the future, we will most certainly call Ace. read more

Pros: showed up on time. Cons: did a half-a**ed job, and did half the job. We called to fix a door after a break in. He did a half job -- installed one half of a anti-pry plate, didn't use proper screws (which come with the things, as do both halves). He didn't have the parts he needed to properly repair the strike plate, so he did a half-a**ed job bending it back, but the door didn't properly latch. He left, claiming it was done. Had to get him to come back out, and he still didn't do it right. His english comes and goes, when you tell him he's doing things wrong, he doesn't understand, though it's clear from facial expression that he does, and he knows he's either no good or lazy. read more

My wife and I just bought a place in Lincoln Square, and had always passed this shop, so I decided to give them a call. The owner met me at our new place fifteen minutes later to look at what needed to be done, then re-keyed the locks then and there in less than 30 minutes. The new keys are very smooth in the locks, and certainly better than the old ones that were replaced. The charge was $130.00 for everything. read more

I work in Lincoln Square. A young girl from an office upstairs from me accidentally locked herself out of the office, and she was the only one there that day. She came down and was calling various locksmiths. The problem was, her boss was going to pay for it, but needed an invoice sent to him to be paid. I don't think there is a locksmith that would do that, but she was calling and seeing. She calls this one. They rushed her on the phone, pushing to make her a customer from the get-go. She tried to explain that her boss would need the invoice. They asked for her address. She said "So that's okay?" and they said yes. They tell her half an hour. After about 45 minutes she calls back to get an ETA. The woman just keeps saying "I don't know when he'll be there." The girl was being nice, she then said "Can I just get an idea...like, will it be another hour? Half an hour?" Then the woman abruptly says "Ten minutes". After about another 15 he pulls up in his car outside. The girl goes out. She explains again about the invoice and he says no. She starts to say that they told her yes, he cuts her off, says "Bye" and drives away. RIDICULOUS. I came onto Yelp because I think if you treat people that way, your potential customers should know. I needed someone in the area to put in two new deadbolt locks for my condo. Ace was very accommodating in coming out on a Sat to do the work. Being a locksmith novice, I didn't realize that actually I just needed those locks rekeyed and not replaced. And based on his great recommendations for consistently and security I could have the other locks rekeyed also. It ended up being cheaper with an even better result than I expected. I much prefer working with local businesses in the area and people like him who have the experience to recommend what you really need. Just came and made a key Home Depot couldn't make. Very fast and easy. Lots of street parking. Only downside is metered parking.

Would NEVER recommend. I called and spoke to a lady and said she was sending a locksmith over immediately and it would cost $85. An hour later no one showed and I called their number but it just rang and rang. So I hung up and called again only to get a busy signal. This lady literally put the phone off the hook to NOT receive my phone calls. Horrible customer service! If you can't make it just say so...DO NOT LIE TO YOUR CUSTOMERS. Very poor service. I called yesterday afternoon saying I needed a locksmith as soon as possible--my purse had been stolen with my keys and ID so I needed to change the locks on my place asap. Woman took all the info and said she'd check the locksmith's schedule and call me right back. It's now 24 hours later and I never heard a thing. Called another locksmith. who returned my call immediately and is on his way over. Will not ever call this place again. read more

Ace Lock & Key 5145 N Lincoln Ave I had a unique folding motorcycle key and some blanks, explained what was needed to do it right and he got it done. He even went as far to find an alternative blank he had in stock and cut one for me FREE and IT WORKED GREAT. Just watch the wife she can be short and curt but the hubby is more than willing, he knows and ikes to treat folks right and seems to like his job. I think the wife is just watching out for him in the business but when HE starts with you he finishes the job. read more
