Ackerly's Grill & Galley is now open in the former Main Street Cafe in Alton, across the parking lot from Fiddlehead Farms Marketplace. This casual and clean restaurant, which serves lunch and dinner was updated which has table and booth seating with a black and white color theme, black wood trim, white walls with classic framed pictures, dark finished wood floors, and a high pitched ceiling in the main dining area with a bar too! The menu offerings include a variety of sandwiches & burgers (with side) including beef dip, haddock sandwich, & lobster BLT, seafood dishes (haddock, scallops, shrimp, swordfish, salmon, lobster), steaks, chicken, prime rib (Fri & Sat), vegetarian (veggie burger, veg lasagna, roasted veg risotto), salads, soups, chowders, appetizers, and desserts. The prices here are reasonable & moderate, most entrees $12-$21, sandwiches $8 (chicken sandwich) to $16 (lobster BLT), appetizers $6 (beer & cheese pretzel roll) to $12 (seafood dip), and desserts are $6 each. I was greeted as I entered and promptly seated in a booth. The waitress promptly arrived to take my order. I knew what I wanted to order since I looked at the menu posted outside. For a starter, the New England Clam Chowder ($5 cup) served with oyster crackers had a good creamy texture (not too thick) with minced clams, soft potato pieces, bacon, & celery. The chowder was just right and not too rich. I was given a hot dinner roll with lemon herb butter (sooo good). For dinner, the Strawberry Almond Chicken ($12) had tender sliced grilled & marinated chicken breast served over a bed of fresh arugula, strawberry slices, sliced almonds in a tangy sweet strawberry vinaigrette dressing. The side choice of parmesan risotto had a firm texture mixed in with chunks of melted cheese. The food tasted very good and fresh. For dessert, I opted for the French Toast Banana Fosters ($6), which had a slice of grilled egg dipped French toast topped with a sweet rum sauce, soft banana slices, a scoop of hard vanilla ice cream, powdered sugar, and whipped cream. This was an excellent choice for dessert. The check for dinner for one came out to $25.07 with tax and before tip. The service was friendly and prompt. The waitress checked up on me and asked me how each food item was during the meal. I would recommend dining at Ackerly's for lunch or dinner, if your travels take you through Alton Bay. We ordered takeout from here and everything sounded great, but nothing really lived up to the hype. Maybe things would be different had we dined in. The lobster mac and cheese had very little lobster. The skirt steak was a tad overcooked. The chicken sandwich was pretty dry. They forgot to add the soup, and said they would send me a gift card for the difference since it could not be refunded, but I have yet to receive that. read more

First tried this place on a chef's recommendation. Went back because our first dinner was great. Nothing too crazy, just great food expertly prepared. Ordered take out on Wednesday night, lobster roll with sweet potato tater tots as well as fish and chip dinner. Got home food was not that great tasting, maybe they had an off night. Found they only put 8 tiny tater tots in the lobster roll plate for an extra $1.50 not impressed at all, very minimal amount of lobster as well. The fish and chips was ok not what I would expect for the price. The portion of food is very skimpy for the price paid. With all this being said we will try one more time in a few week before we completely write off the place and never return as we all can have off days. read more

Maybe we just ordered the wrong dishes, but I found the food to be disappointing. Service was ok, price appeared to be reasonable, but the amount of food per plate was a bit lite. We ordered the Pretzel App, Lobster Pie, and Pulled Pork Tacos. The pretzel and beer cheese app was just 2 pretzels and not cheese sauce but more of an aoli. It was ok, but for $10 I would expect a little more. My wife had the pulled pork tacos. They lacked flavor, the pork itself was dry, and hard like it had been left out for too long and over cooked. This dish was absolutely awful and should not be on any menu. I had the Lobster pie, which looked unlike any other lobster pie I've ever ordered. It was ok.. but not what I expected, and some parts were over cooked. It basically looked like lazy man lobster, roasted in the oven with ritz crackers and butter, not like a seafood pie. I was surprised by the quality of the food we ordered as I saw Ackerly's had 4 star on average. There might be better items on the menu, but what we ordered just didn't give me faith to try Ackerly's again. read more

Great place we stumbled upon when Johnson's was so busy. Great food and nice servers even though they were busy when we got there . We started with the soft pretzels appetizer. Hubby got fried seafood which was haddock fresh and flaky, shrimp, and scallops lightly battered and fries were good too. I had the flat bread caprese in picture. Everything was great! Terrible customer service. Ordered take out and showed up to pick it up and they said I didn't call or put an order in. Showed my call history and the amount of time I was on the phone and they continued to tell me it wasn't there instead of maybe saying "sorry" or offering to cook it. It was only 2 things. Asked them if I could put the order in and wait there and they told me they stopped taking to go orders. Won't be returning. read more

Hostess is about as welcoming as a rabid dog. Don't waste your time or money. Never any seating. Always short on staff. Staff who is there looks stressed by the hostess/lady at front door. Too bad, the area is limited on dining options and could use a few more good restaurants. read more

This is always a must stop for me when I'm near #LakeWinnipesaukee. Delicious fresh sea food and they have expanded the cocktail choice too They added a nice awning over the deck and it's a great place to hang out with a glad of wine or cocktail and watch the #Harleys cruise by on Main Street. This trip, I had their, home made Burger and the Tuna Melt the next day. Thanks to the Pomegranate Martinis I spent a very nice evening there and met some really interesting locals. read more

I was visiting my home state of NH and my nephew recommended Ackerly's and I am glad he did! There were 9 of us for lunch on a Wednesday. There was one waitress and she handle the whole place calmly and efficiently. Even with the teenager's special requests The food was fresh and delicious. I'm still thinking about the French Fries 3 weeks later. I wish I had more time so I could have gone back again. It will definitely be on my list for my next visit. read more

We came down of of Mt. Major starving and found this place close by. It's sizable inside, set in an old house and has plenty of space with no wait. The menu was a traditional family style restaurant with sandwiches, salads, burgers and other entrees, including fried seafood and raw oysters. This far from the ocean I'm usually weary, but the seafood (haddock and salmon) my hiking companions had was amazing and we ended up sampling each others food happily. I had the raw oysters and they were great, my half chicken was done perfectly and fell of the bone. They also had a larger selection of beer and wine than most small restaurants do. The service was quick and friendly and the place clean. I'd come back here when in the area. They also do a breakfast menu we did not try and had outdoor seating for the warmer months. The prices were a bit jacked up, but it was tourist season so it's understandable and the portions sizes were substantial enough where we didn't care. We had a great time. read more

Just passing through and stopped for lunch. Was worried since recent reviews were mixed but we really enjoyed our lunch. Our server Chris was really nice and attentive and the food was very good. This place looks deceiving from the outside, once your inside you experience clean new age decor. It's Wing Night and I sampled a few, loving the way the garlic and parm tasted together. I had the lobster pie and it was portioned just right and the sides of rice and sweet potato were tasty. I might try there breakfast this week. read more

My son and I stopped her last year and had a good meal. Strange things can happen to restaurants over the winter in the Lakes Region. I am happy report that things are the same. The food is the best part. Their mussels were very good and I followed that with a delicious haddock sandwich. Decent beers, good size menu, a little something for everyone. The kitchen is pretty darn slow however. So be prepared. I think this is more of a 3.5 star place. But I do recommend that you try it as I expect you will enjoy it. There are no Michelin stars in their future but if you are looking casual, unpretentious and good, then hit this place up. I recommend Ackerly's. read more

i would not recommend wasting your time here, posted as soon as you walk in says "please wait to be seated" but we stood there for close to 10 minutes with absolutely no staff in sight. even ordering a "starter" took over 20 minutes and we got the "Vietnamese spring rolls" which was $13 and only came with 2 very gross looking "spring rolls" not at all worth the price. the food was extremely overpriced only to taste like it had been sitting in the back for over a week- my fiancé got the black and blue ribeye ($27)that was very obviously a sirloin smothered in gravy that tasted like it was weeks old while i ordered the fried lobster ($27) that came as a literal kids serving with absolutely no flavor, the only enjoyable part of that meal was the slaw. and the only good part of our experience was a female server very obviously working hard to take care of the customers while an older man, who was identified as the "prep boy", reeked of alcohol and spent just about the entire time we were there hitting on any women in the establishment rather than helping the female server. again, wouldn't waste your time or money at this place- if i could give 0 stars and still post this i would. read more

I have been here now a handful of times, trying to give it the benefit of the doubt. The first time, my husband and I came alone in Fall of 2016 and it was a good experience. We didn't live in the area and drove up an hour for dinner - no complaints. We had dinner, oysters, and drinks. Then we moved up to the area - and of course love to go out to eat often so remembered this place and ate here with our son: had wings, the pretzel, and shrimp... we sat outside, the server was so busy socializing with some guys on the other side she barely even noticed us - as well as the food was bland & not anything special. My husband then asked me to go out and hop around as we love to do on date nights. We stopped there for a beer and ordered the seafood dip, with the intent to hang out for a bit, the dip came, it was thin and liquidy - while being bland. So we paid the bill and left, deciding to drive to Gilford as they have a GREAT restaurant not too far, that is a consistent great time & service/food. I wouldn't stop here, if you are a foodie and looking for something to be a culinary delight, go up the road - there are some other great options in the area!!! read more
