We came here with the whole family tonight to celebrate my father's birthday. 5 of us total…read more(including my 6 & 4 year old son and daughter). My husband and I had been once before for our anniversary and the food was incredible. Tonight really showed how much heart and love goes into this restaurant when a little boy peaked out from behind the wall & asked if my kids wanted to play with him as we waited to be seated. After making sure it was okay with who I'm assuming is the owner & family of the little boy, my kids went to the table he was at to color and play with him. Everyone was so kind and gracious with my kids, and the little boy Sebastian was the highlight of our night. He was such a sweet kid & the best little host. My kids had a great time with him as we waited for our food. I got the carbonara, my dad got the chicken pesto & my husband got a 3 meat penne. The kids got chicken tender and fries. Each dish was delicious and tasted authentic. The bruschetta dip was amazing. My husband doesn't normally like bruschetta, but how the flavors were balanced had him eating most of it. The bread was perfect, crisp outside with a softer inside. My carbonara was creamy and flavorful. Most carbonara upsets my stomach because of dairy (but I still order it anyway because it's my favorite), but how they made it here left me feeling satisfied without an upset stomach which is a huge win in my book! It warmed my heart to feel like my kids were welcomed in a restaurant with open arms when many restaurants view kids in general as a burden. We will definitely be back! Personally, we've never been to a restaurant that provided this quality of service and hospitality in addition to the best Italian food we've had at a more than reasonable cost! 10/10 recommend this to anyone!

Italian Restaurant located in Downtown Avondale. The…read morerestaurant is cute and the decorations are on theme for an Italian restaurant, but are not cheesy. They compliment the culture extremely well, and help set the atmosphere. When we went for lunch on a Sunday, it was pretty empty (only 1 other table). I would recommend not worrying about the low attendance. I think this has to do more with the fact that Downtown Avondale tends to be pretty empty. I think that they would do really well and be a lot busier if they were in a different location. The service was amazing, our server was attentive and gave out really good recommendations. While all the food was delicious...the free bread was my favorite. It was perfectly toasted and seasoned and included a brushetta topping on the side. I could have just ate that and would have been extremely happy. We ordered an appetizer of Calamari, it was a good portion size for the cost. The Calamari was well seasoned and crispy. I ordered the Portobello Mushroom Ravioli. It was flavorful with large pieces of mushroom mixed with the sauce. Even though it was a white cream sauce, the dish was suprisingly light, I would recommend trying it. The other two people I was with both ordered the Frutti de Mare. There was a good mixe and amount of seafood in the dish and the pasta was cooked perfectly. While the marinara sauce was good, I don't think it was something that was out of this world. I just think it needed a little more seasoning or some kind of kick to round it out. Overall, great restaurant and would recommend.

Of course it was always during the day when they weren't open and it was quickly forgotten. Finally the universe brought us nearby while we were on our way to dinner to another restaurant and the lightbulb went off "what about that Italian place near XXXX" and the rest was history. My goodness are we happy we had that epiphany because we just found our new favorite Italian joint. First off the service was fantastic and that was all courtesy of Sal. He is very knowledgeable and just cool about everything he says and does. It's like you're having dinner at his house. He just wants you to have the best experience without any pressure because he knows the food will deliver. I know It's so annoying to ask for recommendations but he didn't seem bothered by it at all. In fact he encouraged it and after taking his recommendation i understand why he was so confident. This place is just so damn good. Starting with the bread, it was fresh, warm and delicious. We had the soup (tomato basil) and summer salad special which were both great. Onto the entrees, the lasagne bolognese and the eggplant parm with ravioli instead of the sautéed spinach as recommended by Sal. Both were so DELICIOUS. The eggplant parm was light and flavorful which the lasagne was dense but packed with so much goodness. It was a lot of food so we had to take most to go, which will be another 2-4 meals for us. We finished with a chocolate peanut butter mousse dessert which was the cheery in top of a great meal. I'm so happy fate brought us here. I can't wait to go back.

The Most 3-Star Pizza Experience Possible (And That's Okay)…read more Sometimes a restaurant is amazing. Sometimes it's terrible. And sometimes it's so perfectly average that it deserves recognition for staying firmly in the middle of the bell curve. That's kind of where Sauce landed for me. The pizza was solid enough for a lunch stop, but it felt like it was missing that extra something that makes you think about it later. Nothing was bad, nothing was wrong, it just lacked a little flavor punch. The prices were reasonable, which is becoming a rare and beautiful thing these days. The service was friendly, and while they do charge extra for ranch, I'll give them credit: they don't hand you a tiny thimble-sized container and call it a day. If you're paying for ranch, you're getting ranch. The ambiance is fine. Clean, casual, and perfectly functional for grabbing lunch. That said, this isn't the kind of place I'd pick for a long dinner catching up with friends or family. It's more of a "I'm hungry, I need food, and I have places to be" kind of restaurant. At the end of the day, you won't be upset that you stopped here. You'll get a decent meal, friendly service, and move on with your day. Will it change your life? No. Will you write home about it? Probably not. Will it successfully provide pizza during a time when you wanted pizza? Absolutely.
