this is easily one of my fave date night spots. It's small and cozy with cool lighting and I love that they're always playing anime. I always prefer sitting at the bar. It's a better experience when you get to interact with the staff and they give you their recs. All of them are super sweet and knowledgeable about the menu. We pretty much wanted to try everything and did. I've been here several times before but got the salty dog drink this time. super good if you like mezcal. can't go wrong with any of the drinks. Got the ebe 11 and spicy salmon roll, as well as a few specials from the specialty menu. one has a chili oil base and was super good. ended with the ube cheesecake and i was obsessed.

Modern, moody establishment with quick service (of note my party of us 5 gals were seated right next to the bar, but overall the space is small). We stopped by for the first time together (some of us had been before) on a Friday night after coming from another happy hour elsewhere. Some of us ordered food, but most of us just ordered 1 cocktail. I got to try 1 salmon belly nigiri for $5/piece, which was so rich and buttery and soft. I got the Calpico Milk Punch $16, comprised of monopolowa gin, creme de flora, grapefruit, lemon, calpico. It was a clear, clean cocktail that tasted sweet but inert. I also tried my friend's Commintment Issues $16, comprised of kuro kabuto sake, kiyomi rum, cantaloupe puree, lime, agave. Sweeter than my drink, refreshing. Another friend ordered us tequila shots, on the pricier side at $13 each. Admittedly as a non sushi-lover, I enjoyed my experience here, especially the creative cocktail options and moody atmosphere. They were even playing Cowboy Bebop on the screen behind the bar! Pricier than I'd usually go for, but I'd be very down to come back for another girls' night!

The chef is Filipino, but trained in sushi, so there are a few filipino items on the menu! Went here for the special roll call menu. Huge fan of the Kinilaw and the natsu yellowtail; amazing and I would come back just for that. Restaurant was a little busy so service somewhat delayed, nothing ridiculous. They gave us a cocktail gift set as well! A miss for us was the Sinigang sashimi--I am Filipino but found the flavor pairing a little bit strange, the taste of the salmon was lost and the pickled vegetables were a bit overpowering for me. The miso scallop and coffee cured salmon nigiri weren't our favorites, but the bluefin tuna and yellowtail were great, same with the sashimi. Cocktails both creative and delicious.

I've been wanting to try this place for a very long time !!! And it was so worth it !!! Adorable Cute atmosphere Quiet Modern I could go on and on with how the restaurant just was a whole vibe ! Tbh I don't remember exactly what I got but I like pretty each everything, I will say their version of a tempura roll is a different then the usual but still was a good bite! Servers were amazing as well! You could tell they like their job and take pride in it. They were very attentive!! Will go back :)

Amazing sushi and cocktails Any nigiri you get will take you on a culinary journey. Cocktails are creative and fresh. We love sitting at the bar with great collaborative service from the waiters

The dim lighting at Across the Pond created an intimate yet trendy setting--perfect for catching up and celebrating with friends. While the service wasn't great, it wasn't terrible either--just average. The food and drinks, however, really stood out. I especially enjoyed the sushi rolls--they were fresh, flavorful, and surprisingly filling. The drinks were fun and adventurous, with enough kick to get you feeling tipsy.

Great spot for a date night. Staff wasn't rude but wasn't very friendly. Food took a while to come out - we could see food sitting there waiting to be served for at least 5-10 minutes at times. I think if they had 1-2 more servers that would help with the speed of service. We came to celebrate a birthday and even though they don't have desserts on the menu, they gave us a free dessert from the sister restaurant, Clever Koi. Food was all delicious and they choose an anime to show at the bar TV every day; loved that it was Spy X Family when we visited. Server said the Berry White cocktail is the sweetest; I'm glad my friend got it since I learned I'm not a big amaro fan. My other friend got the Koi Reviver and I learned I'm not a big shiso fan, either, but they both enjoyed their drinks. I liked my Big Trouble Little Tokyo!

We walked into a beautifully modern, sleek sushi house. We were seated quickly by friendly staff with high expectations that Across The Pond unfortunately does not live up to. After ordering, the first dish took nearly two hours to come out. Subsequent plates were even farther behind. Although they were displayed beautifully, none of the bites justified its price. No excitement or signature flavors to anything. Nothing was bad, but for the expense that this restaurant will have on your wallet, there are much better sushi places in the Valley.

Shari cooked well and good seasoning. The size is a bit on the smaller side for the menu price. Quite pricey by the piece sushi nigiri. Sushi rolls were creative and somewhat clean comparing to more Americanized ones with tons of sauces and deep fried garnishes. Fish was good and on point, every restaurant can buy from the top sushi Japanese distributors but the rice is the screw up most of the time. Not here but the rice was just too small as well as the rolls, therefore overpriced on the overall meal and in that type of casual ambience I expected a better value. Akami Chu toro Toro

I've been a long time goes of Clever Koi and Fellow osteria, but I always forget about this hidden beauty. I met up with some friends for a little birthday cocktail and late night snack and I forget how much I miss this place. Awesome staff, unique craft cocktails made from scratch, and fresh sushi. I love the low lit vibes with the movies they play at the bar. Definitely give them a try

The ambience is nice but the place is small. The sushi was delicious very fresh and tasteful. The service wasn't the best the server also bartender seemed upset and like he was rushing us when they still had hours until close and there wasn't a wait and was only half full.

I saw an instagram reel promoting a happy hour at Across the Pond (20% off your tab) and was intrigued to see it was a fusion of Japanese and Filipino cuisine which is my exact ethical background. So I was very excited to try some familiar flavors with creative twists. The space is across from Clever Koi, and it's a bit small so if you're going on the weekend during dinner time, I think I'd make a reservation if I had more than 2 people. We were one of 3 couples in the restaurant at 5:15 pm on a Friday, so it was a bit quiet. They do have anime playing on a TV behind the bar. We started off with a drink each from their very creative menu. I ordered the calpico milk punch which I learned doesn't have actual calpico in it, but the gin is infused/washed with the calpico which is why it doesn't look or taste like calpico. We ordered some negi toro, poke on a leaf, and the magic carpet which was a single nigiri with I believe it was chutoro topped with uni. They were all good, but it didn't match the pricing. I've been to many sushi places in the valley now, and $15 for the magic carpet was a bit puzzling for what it was. We left still hungry, so I'd say this would be a place to start your night. I didn't order the sinigang as I couldn't wrap my head around the description of the dish vs what it normally is, and I wish there was a bit more Filipino influence. The bartenders were very knowledgable on the menu and absolutely lit up when my boyfriend started chatting with them about fantasy football. Probably will not be a frequent visitor, but it was worth a try.

This place is really good!! Didn't give 5 stars because is very gourmet compared to the price. But they do have a lot of drink options, the vibes are really cool. For our order they took forever but we were given free drinks and the wait was worth. Ill def be coming back to try other options in their menu

Lylo Swim Club was always top of mind but I still searched to see if there was an option closer to where I live in North East Phoenix. Ultimately Lylo Swim Club was what I chose and I am very glad that I did. The fan mister gave us great comfort and the pool was the perfect temperature for us all. The popular Dole Whip drink did not disappoint we all three ordered one. Also the food was delicious and our server Miguel provided us with stellar service! I highly recommend that you book a pool side lounge or daybed for your next gathering.

Just keep an eye on how much you're spending! There's a lot of spots for improvement here, but I'd also say that Lylo is one of the few businesses I've ever seen do such a visually-great escape out from their pool area. If you're here for the escape and temper your expectations for food or drink, I think you'd have a good time. There are a TON of mosquitos here, so prepare accordingly. The bar and hotel lobby didn't have bug spray nor any for sale. The nearby liquor store does have some for sale at less than a block's walk. (The pool is hot mid Phoenix summer. The pool itself felt closer to a hot tub than a refreshingly cold pool. I'm told this is normal for pools in Arizona in the summer.) PROS: -All of the drinks are really pretty, visually, and with the pool, you have a great mecca for social media photos. -Despite the ridiculous 110+ Phoenix heat, we were relatively comfortable in the shaded restaurant area with the misters. We could still see the pool, but we weren't baking alive. -Pool bathrooms were clean enough. There were lots of puddles and toilet paper on the ground, but nothing was horrific or moldy like some pool bathrooms can be. Spacious stalls for changing too - though I didn't see any shower or changing areas. -The pool area itself is pretty! It makes for gorgeous Instagram photos, and Lylo knows that. There are lots of little spots (a camp sign, a chair off on its own, all the loungers, etc.) that make cute photo backdrops in addition to the pool itself. -There is a collection of inflatable pool toys in the corner that seem to be open for guest use. CONS: -Water bottles are not allowed at all - not even sealed disposable plastic ones from the grocery store. They'll store them for you, and you can fetch your own water with disposable plastic cups while you're here. -The misters in the pool area were broken. With the heat, we chose not to actually use the pool, and instead stayed in the restaurant, shaded area with misters. -All of the on-menu drinks are pretty sweet and not super boozy (at their price points). It's easy to go through quite a few at their higher price. Make sure that you're spending intentionally. -We weren't in love with the food we ordered. It felt like frozen food reheated and served to us. To be fair, that's about to be expected from a pool bar, but it was still something to note at the prices and with nearby restaurants walkable. -Service is there. I wouldn't say it was friendly or welcoming, but the servers checked in often in-between talking to people in swimsuits or joking with friends. I rarely waited for anything, but I didn't feel like a valued guest. -The fabric of the chaise loungers and lounge beds are stained. I saw some employees hauling off some of them and shoving them into the back of a fabric cleaning van, so I'd assume they rotate in and out and have to deal with a ton of spilled drinks.

I arrived a bit before 6 to find it closed, no sign on the door and nothing online stating it had closed. So we headed downtown to the second location. I arrived about 6:10 pm and was asked if I had a reservation. I explained that we went to the other location only to find it closed and when we called the only number on the website to make a reservation (earlier in the day), no one answered the phone. We called multiple times. The guy at the door informed us the other location had closed and he couldn't seat us until 8 pm unless we wanted to sit at the bar. I asked to speak with a manager and was told there was no manager there. A restaurant should always have a manager or someone on site empowered to address customer concerns. We agreed to sit at the bar. First we ordered cocktails for $17 each. While they were tasty and refreshing, they had virtually no alcohol. I ordered the Kra Pow and, on the server's recommendation, chose the pork belly. My friend ordered the Pad Ki-Mao with pork belly. After waiting 30-45 minutes for the food, it finally arrived. Mine was dry pieces of pork belly, dry rice, an egg and three cucumber slices, no sauce whatsoever. When I asked for sauce, I was offered soy sauce and hot chili. My friend's noodles were tasty, but she also thought her pork belly was dry. The server, who was also the host and bartender didn't check in on us a single time during our meal. Between the outdated website, unanswered phone, lack of management and service, long wait and underwhelming food and drinks, the entire experience was extremely disappointing. I expected much more from this place.

GOOD! inspired by taco bell's baja blast hahahah). they TREATED us to all three of their current desserts on the menu. it was the most pleasant surprise i could've imagined. my favorite was the flourless chocolate cake! it was like a thick, rich brownie, had passion fruit cream to "lighten it up" and a caramel-like taffy on the bottom my brother and sister-in-law both said their favorite was the gulab jamun (which is basically like little fried dough balls/donuts, influenced by indian flavors and spices). the mille-feuille was also fantastic - the pastry was light and airy, cream wasn't too sweet and also very light, shaved cheese on top made it have a savory bite, and the jam alongside it was strawberry rhubarb. service is always amazing, friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable; it seems like everybody working here truly enjoys it. quite literally already have a reservation booked at valentine and will be coming back here beforehand. update: came back for more drinks (fernet & coke, spaghett western, negroni) and their lamb flauta. all AMAZING! and amazing order to whet the appetite before dinner at valentine.

Most people think that's a good thing but honestly all I could taste was booze. I ordered a whisky sprite (7and7 spoof) and wow I could only taste whiskey. Every sip was booze booze and more booze. For the cocktails I wasn't able to taste any of the ingredients since it was so strong on the alcohol. Definitely moneys worth I guess lol. The bartender though was very nice and knowledgeable about all the drinks. Could explain all the drinks and the different types of alcohol. Not bad. Definitely would come back. Super cute for date night or a small gathering night out since space wise isn't huge.

Unfortunately, my night consisted of a comedy of errors. Ambiance (3/5): When you think best rooftop in the state, you're thinking scenic and peaceful views. Don Woods' certainly has that, though I've seen better in Phoenix. You can see the mountains in the background, but that's about it. The hotel is located on a busy street, where you'll often hear the noise of cars buzzing by or the train choo-chooing. Did I just make up a word?! I imagine the best time to stop by is during sunset. The outdoor area is relatively narrow with seating for about 20-30 people. It's a mix of comfortable seats and tables/chairs. There's also a charming indoor area, where the bar is located, but I felt like I had to sit outside. The weather was perfect, too. Service (2.5/5): This is where the comedy of errors began. I was given a menu and some water and was left to peruse the menu. Before the waitress had returned, I had picked out an appetizer and a cocktail. I then discovered that their cook had quit the other week and as a result, no food was available. That's fine and all, but you've gotta give me a heads-up when giving me the menu. That way, I wouldn't have spent the time to look over the food menu and get my heart set on a particular dish. On a better note, they have free WiFi. And service was overall friendly and pretty efficient. Food (N/A): While I was unable to order some food, on most nights, they have a small menu of small plates. More of a snack type of spot then a full meal type of establishment. Drinks (3/5): Don Woods is know for its cocktails and they have a list of 10 or so craft cocktails. Plus, beer, wine, and the typical options that you would find when there's a full bar. I feel like the bartender messed up the proportions on my cocktail as it was a bit rough. One drink and I was out. It seems like Don Woods' is experiencing some turnover which is leading to some mishaps. Combine that with some high expectations given the accolades they won, and it was the recipe for a disaster. I love a good rooftop bar, so I was hoping for more at Don Woods' Say When. Even the lobby of the hotel was experiencing issues. They sell popsicles in the lobby but the guy temporarily manning the front desk didn't know how to get their Square device working. Which ended up meaning no appetizers for me at Don Woods and no popsicles from the lobby. Two strikes. We live to fight another day.

At the Say When Rooftop Bar, we enjoy the complementary cocktail. Not sure what it was but it was…read moredelicious with passion fruit and vodka. The service was not so good. Our food ended up at another table and vice versa. When we got the Mini Pizzas, they were very tasty and a great little snack between lunch and dinner.
