For food we had the Spicy Yellowtail Roll and the Slammin' Salmon Roll. The yellowtail roll was good, but the salmon roll was better: melt-in-your-mouth-goodness! It was a Saturday night sushi date with two of my good friends. I made a reservation on OpenTable and was able to get any time slot. It was not too busy which was nice but kind of surprising being that this place was incredible. Our server was amazing he recommended the best cocktails tailored to our liquor choice and gave specific recommendations for dinner. We ordered the shrimp ceviche, yellowtail roll, salmon roll, soft shell crab roll (the best), and the sashimi sampler. We shared everything family style which I highly recommend. There were 3 of us and we didn't even finish all the food. All the food was outstanding but I HIGHLY recommend the soft shell crab roll this was the highlight of the night. I ordered a mezcal cocktail which was delicious and my favorite out of all the cocktails we had even though all of them were amazing. I felt dismayed after traveling from N Scottsdale to Clever Koi to find there was a 45 minute wait for dinner. Too long too wait around, but too short to drive to nearby Lux Central for an espresso martini. Luckily, over the bridge we went to "Across the Pond" a cool, hipster cocktail/sushi bar, and a sister restaurant contiguous to Clever Koi. I'm typically not a cocktail guy, but there were several drinks that stood out. I tried "Riding the Pine" which was Gin, Lime, and passion fruit based. Although we were only there for approximately 45 minutes, the music stood out and the vibes were right on Saturday night. Fabulous, Ja Rule, and Lloyd never get old. I was really feeling it. If I had another cocktail it might have gotten a little crazy in there. When our table was ready at Clever Koi we were able to "walk across the pond" with our drinks and enjoyed a 4 star dinner. read more

Walking through these doors to Across the Pond made me feel like I was transported to another era and other place. Perhaps, south Florida but in the 70s in a good way! I was excited about coming here because one of my close friends had been here last week so I wanted to try it out after seeing his photos! Our bartender was way knowledgable and creative so any cocktail desires were not limited to the already enticing libations on their menu. I enjoyed Enabler since it was bourbon based. The Suntory Sling and Golden Child were also unique and good! My husband ordered the Omikase, chef's choice, which he really enjoyed! It's about 4 courses over an hour and a half! It gives you ample time to enjoy the food and their cocktails. My friend and I shared the Karai hamachi, the soft shell crab roll, the spicy lobster roll, and some nigiri. The coffee cured salmon nigiri was delightful as was their snapper nigiri. Even their soy sauce was aged in maple barrels so there was a hint of sweetness to the saltiness of the soy sauce. Tiny little details are the key to this restaurant in flavors, unique cocktails and modern twist on sushi, as well as the decor. The service was smooth, friendly, and just right - never rushed and never slow. We felt very "at home" at this special spot. You should definitely try it! read more

Seafood is my favorite and their sushi is delicious, flavorful, and fresh. It's quality sushi at a great price. I have been meaning to try this joint since I live about 5 min away and am so glad I finally got around to it! It is an absolute gem with great vibes inside and delicious drinks and sushi! My cocktail, the Berry White, was literally one of my favorite cocktails I've ever had. My boyfriend got the Suntory Sling (I think) which was also amazing. They have 20% off your entire tab every day from 5-6pm which is awesome!! My favorite food item we got was the Slammin Salmon with the beautiful sauce that looks like its paint dripping. We also got the blue fin tuna roll, coffee cured salmon, and ebi-ten roll, all very yummy. This is the absolute best nigiri I have ever had in the Valley, hands down. It is unbelievably fresh and melt-in-your-mouth. They source the fish daily from all over the world and I can't even begin to describe how perfect every bite is. Pretty unbelievable actually! We went back 3 weekends in a row I think lol. While I agree with the other reviewer that the sushi takes a while, I wouldn't give this place 1 star based on that. In my opinion, it is part of the charm (you can literally see like 1 guy hand-preparing all of the sushi by hand for the entire restaurant, they are like works of art!) and it makes for a lovely, slow evening where you can relax and enjoy the company of the people you are with. I personally enjoy the family style, but this isn't your typical sushi restaurant if you are looking for a huge variety of rolls or you are in a hurry. I tend to like a sweeter "froofy" cocktail and I would order both of these again. I'm also impressed by how complex these tasted. It's disappointing when I order something at a bar and I immediately know I can make a better version myself at home. These drinks are good & I would not be able to replicate them with what I keep stocked at home. Several others in my party prefer to feel the burn and ordered stronger drinks (no fruit allowed). Great date night spot for some decent sushi and splendid cocktails. Tucked behind its sister restaurant Clever Koi, Across the Pond offers a more clandestine experience that's perfect for dates. I started off with their Saketini, which was far different from any other I've seen. As opposed to fruity flavors most bars would use, this was incredibly stiff and served up. Basically just ice cold sake and gin in a glass. It was powerful and biting, but still refreshing. It pairs well with their salmon sashimi. Moving on from that, I had even more fun with the Suntory Sling, featuring Japanese whiskey and pineapple ice cubes. This has to be the most popular mix of them all given how I spied one at every table. It is a drink you can't miss! I'm not going to lie to you and say the sushi will blow your mind. It's a conspicuously limited menu served with even more limited space--rather than a full blown sushi bar, there's just a tiny corner of prep space where you can see servers awkwardly hunched over, cutting tiny rolls. I will most certainly say they're good enough, and more than good enough after knocking back a couple, so I won't complain too hard. Finally, even if you're not getting sloshed I recommend taking the light rail here. Not just because that's convenient and eco-friendly, but because the parking is tight and employs a valet system. I think doing valet for small lots like this is incredibly stupid--an arbitrary upcharge that is more about maintaining a veneer of pretentiousness than any convenience. But at least it's a trifle one can easily avoid. All minor grievances aside, I would recommend Across the Pond to just about anyone. The food is tasty, the drinks are very good, and the prices are one hell of a value. You can't go wrong! read more

Love this place! It gets busy on a Friday night, so get there early or make a reservation. I lucked out grabbing seats at the bar with 3 of my gf's. The Cameron's Kick caught my eye from the chalk board- a lovely whiskey/orgeat/lemon juice cocktail topped with pretty pink bitters. Also loved the rum old fashion from the menu. I've had drinks made by three different bartenders here and they are consistently good- not the case at so many other places where the quality of the cocktail depends on who is working that night. Right now this is probably the best sushi in Phoenix. Which is exactly as much of a backhanded compliment as it sounds like. Harumi used to be the best but the last time I went it was seriously underwhelming. The coffee cured salmon nigiri is unique and delicious. The toro was bomb though the normal was better the the more expensive fattier version. Ultimately the only downside is the price as I spent more on 4 pieces of nigiri served 1 piece at a time than I would spend on my whole junn all you can eat meal. Stopped by for happy hour the other day and was pleasantly greeted by many waiters and waitresses. This is a small-ish restaurant/bar right next to clever koi and definitely has a similar Asian influence and decor. We ordered drinks and sushi off the happy hour menu and were served pretty quickly. The waiter was also very knowledgeable about the various drinks on the menu. I got the lemongrass drink and loved the flavor and freshness! I also got an avocado roll and the vegetable roll. Truthfully, there was nothing too crazy about these in terms of flavor or ingenuity but the presentation was very pretty! I was very impressed with our waitress who was AMAZING at catering to a vegetarian. She took note and made sure to keep my food separate from my friends' seafood and also served me tamari instead of their soy sauce which is apparently served with fish sauce. The roll was good but next time I go back I will stick to the fresh and amazing fish. My husband ordered an "Enabler" to start and really enjoyed it, he also ordered a spicy tuna and spicy salmon roll, loved them both! It was quite shocking since we weren't told that they were understaffed until we started waiting for a long time. I feel like when we ordered food, they should have warned us about the wait time on our food. For the price, the food portion and quality was okay. I unfortunately did not think the rolls were too great since every bite tasted different they didn't have consistency on the rolls. The soft shell crab roll was the best out of the rolls but pieces of the roll lacked the spice it mentioned in the description. The nigiri and sashimi did taste better but quite expensive for what it served. The ceviche came with marinated yuzu sauce topped with avocado puree and cilantro. It was subtle and not overpowering with the taste of limejuice. The Kurodai was my favorite bite of the night; well-aged and marinated black snapper with a savory bite. Lastly, the Slammin Salmon came with salmon rolled with cucumber topped with seared salmon and chipotle & avocado puree. This itself was a solid bite and I appreciate a roll without some cheese or extra spice to it. I didn't even need to use wasabi or soy sauce for it. Overall, I'm in love with Across The Pond!
