Furnace needed repair for the first time. Given all the symptoms of what was going on, to me, the problem seemed possibly related to the blower. Looked over 3 highly rated companies on Yelp for an estimate. All I was looking for was an estimate. Contacted the first two companies. With both, a unexperienced office person answered and both could not give me the estimate I was looking for. Both required a technician to physically check the unit at a cost. It seemed I had no choice but make an appointment with each. Frustrated on knowing I'm going to be paying someone for not fixing the furnace, I contacted Adams Heating to see what they had to offer. Right away, I got a response from the owner in directing me to his tech (Josh). After discussing my situation with him, I cancelled my previous two appointments and made one with Adams. I called for bids on a furnace replacement and new AC and got back very similar prices from 4 companies and 1 very low bid from a San Jose company. Looking at reviews of the San Jose company scared me away. Looking at Adams bid, he was quoting me a larger furnace and AC unit than the others so I got in touch and asked him to match the others in size. He did and lowered his price. Still above the San Jose company by a couple thousand but being local and good reviews I went with him. The job was suppose to take 2 days, they were done by 10 AM on the 2nd day, the crew was fast, very easy to get along with and did excellent work. I had this done at the end of September, just when the hot weather hit so I've got to test the AC along with the heat and everything has been perfect. Couldn't be happier. read more

We have had a great experience with Adam's heating. They have been very responsive even on evenings and weekends throughout our project. We started with another company that really made us feel like they were just trying to get us to do the most expensive thing despite what we were asking for. So we called Adams. Josh came out and took a look at the heater and attempted a fix. It didn't work and we ended up needing a full replacement. They had both the part for the fix and the replacement unit fairly quickly. Well, he saved me minimum of $189, which is about what 5 other HVAC companies would charge me to come out and replace thermostat (if that was all that was wrong). Josh, on the phone, walked me through the simple diagnosis to see if thermostat was faulty, which it was. He even helped me pick out the right thermostat, over the phone, when at Friedman's and reminded me to get batteries too! I installed it myself, no big deal. So grateful to Josh, here to help, not to take my $$ unnecessarily, made my day! I will definitely be using Adams for any future HVAC needs, and will tell friends. I received a $10,000 estimate from a heating and cooling company to fix a long-standing problem with my home. I have had 4 other companies evaluate the problem over the years, without being able to find an affordable solution. Brian Adams came out and spent 15 minutes looking at my system. Adams H/C quoted us $1,500. for duct cleaning. Our home is 2,700 square feet with thirteen vents, basement that is cemented with easy access if necessary. I called COIT and their truck mounted duct cleaner is far stronger than the ones these other companies use, and they quoted me $475.00 for the EXACT same job. I repeat: $475.00. for the exact same job.I suggest everyone start sharing their quotes on Yelp to let these people know that we are tired of these ridiculously high prices so that maybe they will think twice before having the nerve to write up such outrageous estimates. I have had trades people actually tell me that they take payment plans, as if that solves the problem. Always get three estimates and never hire the first person you speak with. read more

One day during the 2017 Sonoma wildfires I got a call back from Josh. I had a simple question about my thermostat. Once Josh answered my question, I asked him how things were going up in Sonoma County with the wildfires. "Oh, we are coping OK" Josh answered, "I am standing here hosing my house down, the fire is now across the street". "Why are you returning calls at a time like this?", I asked. "To take care of our customers" he answered. More recently, I called and spoke with Brian Adams. I explained that we had just finished some construction in the house. Spackle and paint dust seemed to have gotten into my air system. My lungs felt like they were glued together. "We can clean out your furnace and duct work next week", he responded. The technician that answered my call was great. Very nice and helpful. He arrived on time THE NEXT DAY (!!!) and diagnosed the problem with my heater quickly. Then we had to discuss price. My heater, a wall heater, is at Home Depot for $1500 including tax. The owner of adams heating wanted to charge $4500-$5000 for the heater and install (including possibly working on the vent pipe in the attic). No way! Went with another company and spent $3500 all in, which I thought was still quite a bit. read more

Josh at Adams Heating responded to my message within an hour of an initial inquiry. I was advised by Moore Heating with whom I was a "member" that the part needed, would have to be custom ordered from China, take 4-6 weeks with an additional $150-200 shipping fee, and I should just replace my furnace. Josh asked for the make, model and part I was advised needed custom ordering and called back within a couple of hours to advise he could get the part immediately and repair for half of what my "member" price was with Moore. Upon coming out, Josh advised the furnace was in good shape and no need to replace, the year, make and model have had very little problems industry wide. He did the repair, educated me, was friendly, clean, and professional. My furnace now purrs like a kitten. Will definitely use again. Brain was the only guy who gave us a estimate and checked everything. Of the four people we had given us estimates (two that were less expensive than Adam's), no one checked and mentioned we needed to larger returns ducts -which cost more cause of it. We ended up paying more even after a discount, but it was worth it. I hate it when installers end up telling you they need to charge more on something cause of a bad estimate or they just wanted to get in the door first put the hole in the wall and give you the bad news and take your wallet with it. We were without heat for a while cause they were so backed with work. He had one of his master techs put a temp fix to our existing system. That took at least an hour of work and new equipment. It never fixed our system, but while we waited to get our HVAC in it kept us warm. I did A LOT of research on brands and installers and I have to say go with these guys. read more

After a recommendation from another company to replace my heater at an exorbitant price due to a crack in the heater exchange and having me sign a form to absolve them from any responsibility for carbon monoxide poisoning, I needed a second opinion. Josh did a thorough inspection including removing that part and we looked at it together, something the other company did not do, and there was no crack! He cleaned everything and reaffixed the circuit board because it was left loose by the other company. Josh was very professional and showed me evidence or lack thereof all along the way. As all other reviewers have noted, Brian and his crew were fantastic. We had a unique situation where we had someone drop a wedding ring down one of our vents. Given it had been about 4 years since our last HVAC cleaning, we decided to use the lost ring as an opportunity to get everything taken care of at once. Brian was quick to reply to my online inquiry, gave me a reasonable quote for the HVAC/dryer cleaning and was super flexible on scheduling. He showed up nearly to the minute of when he said he'd arrive. Now finding the ring turned out to be more challenging than any of us anticipated. Even with a 9 foot camera, they couldn't locate the ring. Brian called me and walked me through my options which more or less entailed going under the house, removing the duct work, searching for the ring there and then putting it all back together again! Needless to say, that's what we opted to do and he found it! In addition to being on-time, easy to communicate with and HONEST, they are true professionals. Let me start by saying that I have had two other heating and cooling contractors come out to take a look at my furnace through my home warranty company. In total there were 6 visits and several parts that were replaced but contrary to all the replaced parts the furnace continued not to work correctly. Apparently both of those contractors could not diagnose the actual problem. The last contractor told me that my entire system would need to be replaced which they quoted $3,700. I was not ready to throw in the towel so I called Adam's which someone recommended. I had a brief phone conversation with Josh and instantly could tell he knew his stuff. I made an appointment to have him come out and diagnose my furnace. Upon doing the diagnosis he determined that it was the control board as he predicted. He also showed me a video of the current board and how it was not working correctly. Since the furnace is in my attic and I couldn't get up to see it I found the video extremely helpful. Josh was able to install a new board for a fraction of what a new system would cost. I wanted to thank Adam's for a great job and especially to Josh for being honest and forthright with his diagnosis. Another great experience with Adams Heating and Cooling and I had to get online to provide feedback for them. I have used them three times for service calls, used them to replace a furnace at my mom's condo, and will be getting my new furnace for my house with them. Currently, I have an old furnace that puts the fear of god into most technicians, but 'Adams' had no issues with handling the fixes. I literally had one place tell me they didn't feel comfortable working on my furnace. Twice, I had gone to three different companies to get a quotes for a new furnace to ensure I was getting a competitive price. Adams was always the best price. Some companies were trying to charge me three times the amount for ugly wall units installed. I have an old house and such units would have been a terrible choice to keep the aesthetic. Brian and Josh are friendly, experienced, and professional. They have an old school client-focused approach to the business. They came and figured out what was going on, ordered parts, did the repairs and everything was good to go. Yesterday in the midst of the Labor Day heatwave, it stopped working again. While doing the walk-through prior to signing the lease with the new tenant, we discovered that the AC was absolutely not working. It was 100 in Santa Rosa that day, and everyone was very crabby and uncomfortable. We had 3 days before the tenants took possession, and only one available day to come back to town. Thursday morning I called Josh at Adams. We talked about the problem and he fit me into his schedule that very same afternoon. Josh (and Josh the younger, his son) arrived on time and immediately got to work diagnosing the problem. Our condenser had a burnt out capacitor. He had the part in the truck and fixed it on site. However, it didn't end there. Josh inspected our entire heating/cooling system. He found and cleaned all of the filters, put in a drain hose where the previous tenant had removed it (really?), reprogrammed the thermostats, made certain all of the vents were working, and all the while explained in great detail how everything worked together. My engineer husband loved him and I did, too! It's a great thing when a contractor treats a customer with respect and shares knowledge. Our house was SO cold because our furnace had several issues, including faulty wiring from the original install, clogged drains, a bad capacitor and a really dirty filter. Wow...I cannot say enough good things about these guys. I self-installed a Nest Learning Thermostat in our house (3rd Gen) and was having a lot of issues. The fan would constantly run, even when I pulled the G-wire, which controls the fan - it would still f-ing run! Anyway, we just moved into the house, but the furnace is newer. It's an Amana 90 Air Command (forced air heater). After multiple calls with moronic Nest Support (save for one guy that was basically a Nest Pro) I send out some quotes on Yelp. I sent one to Adams and two other companies nearby with solid reviews and all got back to me pretty promptly. Mind you, I sent these quotes out at 1030pm on Sunday, but had responses in the morning. Brian, the owner actually helped address some common questions over Yelp chat regarding Nest thermostats. Sounds like the constantly running fan is pretty typical. He then tells me to contact Josh, his tech that's in my area. I call, leave a voicemail and Josh calls back within the hour. He's upfront on cost (lowest or 2nd lowest quote btw) and says he can be out at my house the next day...but this is where it goes from 4 star to 5-star experience. Josh says, "you know what, I bet you we can figure this out together over the phone, don't worry about it. I'm going into a house now, he gives me some instructions and asks me to reinstall the Nest then call him back in a couple hours). I do that...and he helps me diagnose the issue within 5 minutes. The friggin Nest people took 3 phone calls for f**ks sake, and even then, we couldn't figure it out. So...what's the issue... Our system had the Y (air conditioning), G (fan) W (heat) and R (power) wires, but Josh asked me if we actually have AC. Nope, we don't. That's the issue then...it's a bit hard to explain, but it's a power sharing problem. The Nest thinks we have AC, but we don't, so hence it directs power to G and Y wires, thinking it needs the fan on. Josh suggested unplugging both G & Y wires, or even just Y wire in case we want to use the fan to circulate air, we can still, but ZERO need for the Y wire. Why that fucking wire was installed in the first place, I'll never know. Problem solved, Nest thermostat works, with the G wire in place, we're good to go on the "Eco" setting, which is basically the same as Auto on an old system and last night we finally slept in a warm house, but not an overly heated house. Kudos to Adams...can't say the same for Nest support, but Nest itself is pretty awesome. read more

I initially thought their "diagnostic" fee was somewhat steep, but I wanted my heat to work again. It took the guy 10 minutes to figure out what was wrong, so he recommended that a switch be replaced. Little did I know that once he started to work on that, the labor rate (also exorbitant!) was now in effect! To replace a switch....almost $400 for less than an hour's work! I just want to give a HUGE shout out to this great local company-and to Josh in particular. We bought a short sale and have been doing all the improvements that come along with doing so. We had Josh out to do a furnace inspection and maintenance. He is the utmost professional. He communicated clearly and was responsive via text. I called for a service on my million year old heater. I am a renter and want to make certain all is good. The person arrived at least a half hour late, after I waited in the hour window and had to call him. My small dog was obnoxious ( which I get is not cool) however he threatened to drop kick her if she came near him again...not cool at all.. I have no idea if "maintenance" was actually accomplished as nothing was explained to me at all....150 check...NEVER will use this company again.
