My fridge had been making odd noises for far too long, so I finally called Adam's Refrigeration. I called a few days before Thanksgiving and was surprised they were able to check it out that afternoon. They were very nice and professional, emptied my freezer so they could get to the motor. While one gentleman was swapping the motor for a new one the other cleaned the rack and wall of the freezer for me. They put everything back in the freezer for me too (they offered to take my gin and vodka off my hands, which was sweet). Then they quickly fixed the fridge door (I didn't even know that was a problem till I saw them adjust it a few inches). I'm amazed how big of a difference the new fan makes! I can barely hear it now. The prices for parts and labor were reasonable too (said the girl who's never bought refrigerator parts before). I was expecting to pay twice as much. I hope I never need them again, but if I do I'll definitely call Adam's before anyone else. read more

Incredible service. I called Adam's and got a v-mail that said "if you're getting my v-mail, I am in a refrigeration unit or do not have cell reception. I promise I will call you back in 10 minutes" (not "I'll call you shortly" or "as soon as I can"). In less than 10 minutes, I had a return call. With 30 min notice, Joel had gone to the tenant's unit, assessed the situation, called me with a price, moved forward and fixed the problem. He's never met me but was happy to put the invoice in the mail. Awesome! read more

I just wanted to add to Joel's 5-star review total. I had a fridge leak and ruin my hardwood floors. After talking with Joel about the probable cause and estimated fix on the phone , he advised me that I might be best to get a new fridge (the way I was leaning anyway). Unfortunately my insurance wanted to hear from someone official about the cause of the leak, so I called Joel back. I realized I was likely to have to pay for his time and would have done so happily in exchange for his honest advice earlier. Joel sent over a faxed report of the cause directly to my insurance agent the next day. When a few days later an envelope from Adam's Refrigeration arrived I was surprised to not find a bill, but a copy of the service report he faxed, along with the fax confirmation. No bill. Just Joel doing more than required, and not asking for anything in return. I am writing this review and will be sending back just compensation in return. More importantly, if I ever have fridge issues he is the only one I would call. Based on my experience I would advise you do the same. read more

When your husband texts you at work that the ice maker/water doesn't work, you think "Okay, we can manage that for a day or so." However, that goes out the window the next day when you look in the freezer for something to feed your toddler. Looking in the fridge, you see that everything in the door is defrosted and part of what's in the fridge is also. While my toddler played, I frantically looked on Yelp for refrigeration repair. We've had other appliances repaired, but never the fridge. Once I got up my husband, I called Adams Refrigeration right away. I got a time set up almost instantly for an afternoon repair. All of this happened when we were planning to attend Mac & Cheese Fest. So, we warned our babysitter that the fridge repair man might show up while our dude's down for a nap or when we're out. Our poor babysitter had to feed our dude without a working fridge. Luckily, Adams Refrigeration showed after we got back from our event. We explained the problem. He moved out the fridge to see the problem. With a little cleaning and diagnosing, he realized it was the circuit board. With a few quick fixes, we had a working fridge again. He was prompt, upfront about price, and very nice. He was especially sweet to our toddler who got so excited by the sight of his drill that our little dude ran to his toys and grabbed his. Unbelievably good service. I think this is my first yelp review. Our fridge stopped working over the weekend while we were away. The technician came out within an hour after we called and fixed the issue right away. The fridge needed a part replacement and the technician had the part we needed and gave us a VERY good deal on the part and labor cost. Our fridge died today and we have a baby so getting someone to our place asap was important. Joel promptly answered our call and was here within the time frame he gave (2 to 3 hours). He got right to work and within 5 to 10 minutes, he diagnosed the issue, explained the issue in layman's terms and showed me where the issue existed. He gave us some options (replace the fridge or get a new compressor) and did not push their service. We appreciated his quick response, quick service, and provided options to us. So the fridge in my apartment HAD the loudest motor..... and over time my fiance and I got used to it. When our lease came up for renewal, we talked to our landlord about it. We were told to find a reasonably priced repairman and just deduct the cost from our rent. So my fiance found these guys that same day. And they showed up at our apartment the same day. I called Adams tonight around 10 p.m. I explained my situation. He diagnosed me over the phone and was very honest. He told me that he was 99% sure it was a computer issue and that I'd have more luck calling the manufacturer to get the part. He told me that rebooting the fridge was worth a shot, but that the control board was probably having issues and may need to be replaced anyway. Restarting the fridge did the trick temporarily, but I'll probably need to get a part replaced, just like he said. He didn't come out. He didn't charge me a service fee. He just gave me free, honest advice. And, that, is how you build word-of-mouth. They don't make refrigerators like they used to, just like they don't make guys like this. read more

I have a rental unit in Ravenswood, and my tenant came home one day to find the fridge less than cold and the freezer mostly defrosted. I told my tenant to call Adams Refrigeration, and they came out within a day or two! He serviced the fridge and needed to replace a few parts (which he had on hand), and was done pretty quickly, and the cost of the service and repair was extremely reasonable. About a week later, my tenant told me again that the fridge was not working, so he called Adams again. They came out promptly, and made a very easy fix to correct the situation - and they did not even charge for coming out that second time. These guys are great. From the time I found them on Yelp and called to when my fridge was fixed and everything paid up took less than 1.5 hours. Our freezer had been having issues icing up frequently to the point where I was ready to give up and just buy a new fridge. However, after starting to research new models, I read a lot of reviews complaining about how the new fancy fridges aren't built well and many of them end up having even more issues. So I thought I'd first try and call in some repair guys to see if they could give me an assessment. Called Adam's and got an answer right away. They said they could come over in about 45 mins. They were here in about 30 mins. It took them about a minute to assess that all we needed was a heating rod to help melt the blocked up ice and they could fix it right away. Well it took them 30 mins to clear out the freezer, defrost it, add the part and put everthing back together. I would probably still be chipping away at ice right now. The guys were super friendly and careful to clean up everything. They even cleared out the dust that had accumulated in the bottom vent. With parts and labor the total came to $123. On top of that I saved hours trying to find a new fridge and $1500-2000 to buy one. Best decision I made today. read more

Joel and his sidekick came to my house two days in a row. The first day they realized that they couldn't get the refrigerator out because the contractor built it in to push into a countertop. After trying to pull it out and failing and unscrewing and re screwing the door, he didn't charge me anything insisting I just call him back. After getting my handyman to cut out some of my frame to pull out the refrigerator they came back and thankfully fixed my problem. I cannot tell you with all the different service people I've had in my unit, how nice, honest, affordable and professional these guys were. My Frigidaire Professional went out and contacted a Frigidaire dealer. They came out and said it was the computer that went out on my 4.5 year old fridge. They quoted me just under $500 to replace the computer, so I contacted Adams and explained the issue and they came in more than $120 less! Joel also gave me some great advise and was very honest that it could be more than just the mother board and would hate to see me pay to replace this and then find out that something else doesn't work. I had an issue with my G.E. fridge and, after explaining the problem with someone I knew, discovered it was a PCB board that needed to be replaced. The first company I called gave me a quote. After reading reviews, I gave Adams a call-- and got a quote for $150 LESS! I booked the appointment (which was able to happen same day, within 3 hours no less) and the repair person worked efficiently, was very polite and friendly, and even found a broom so he could sweep up behind the fridge while I went to get payment. I woke up this morning and realized my frig and freezer had died at some point during the night. All my food was warm! So I ran out to the store and bought a bunch of ice to try and preserve as much as I could. I was afraid it was going to take a few days before anyone could make it out (most places quoted about 3 days) but not Adams. When my ice maker quit working, I thought it was just a hardware problem, but then the ice cream wouldn't stay frozen. As everyone knows with fridges, it's a time-sensitive situation. Sadly, this was all on a Sunday. I found these guys on Yelp and called them because of the 5-star ratings. It was well-deserved. First off, I called on a Sunday and they picked up. After seeing all the positive reviews I figured I might as well give it a shot. Joel set me up for an appointment on Monday morning. He showed up on time after giving me a fifteen minute heads up and brought replacement parts with him. Inside of an hour, with the help of his personable associate, it was fixed. And all for only $130. He walked me through the issue every step of the way and showed me exactly where the problem was. I could probably fix it myself if it ever happened again. He cleaned the compressor really well and got it restarted, but cautioned me that it may or may not take, but to give it a few days. Music to my ears! I found my new favorite refrigerator guy! I made an appointment with Joel for after work today. I got out late (and I called him) he said it was OK and he would call me after he was done with another job. It was so great he was willing to still come out and help me. Now it is almost 730 pm and he is still out working- fixing refrigerators for busy moms like me who have no clue about what is broken. He took the time to throughly evaluate the fridge, checked the doors, all the connections and made the diagnosis in 3 minutes. He was professional, friendly and I trusted him completely. He told me my unit was still in good shape and I could probably get 10 more years of use out of it! Whew! New ones are expensive! After a trip to the truck, he defrosted my freezer, fixed a broken timer- all for less than I could imagine! He adjusted the door my kids hung on and bent for free. Wish I would have known about these guys sooner. I had my motherboard on my refrigerator repaired 3 months ago by a Chicagoland competitor and sure enough, my "new" motherboard crapped out on me today. Since the competitor gave me only a 1-month warranty I was in a bad place (buy a new fridge, pay that company again, or look elsewhere. I called Adam's at 5pm on a Saturday and Joel picked up the phone and gave solid advice; and said to call him back if it made sense. I called him an hour later and he showed up within 15 minutes to diagnose. Surreal customer service experience. Obviously was a rain cloud over my day paying again but the service call ($45) was nothing compared to other quotes. Adams is fantastic. About 3 months ago my GE fridge was melting and I called Joel who said he could be at my place in Logan Square in an hour... and guess what? About 55 min later he rang my doorbell! He had to replace a bad computer board which he had on his truck. He also speeded up the defrost process with a blowtorch and cleaned out the cooling coils. He did all the work quickly and efficiently and really knew what he was doing. His price seemed very fair and he suggested I keep the old computer board and its packaging in case the new one died quickly I could get GE to replace it. Today the fridge was on the fritz again (never buy a GE profile) and I called Joel. He made arrangements to come over and fixed the problem. This time the computer was OK, but there was a problem with the defrost... probably due to the chicago humidity and someone leaving the fridge door open for a while. When went to pay him he refused the check because he had just been out a few months ago. The problem we had today was unrelated to the problem he fixed last time so I would have been happy to pay, but he refused. Adams is prompt, honest, professional, clean, polite and reasonable. This guy is THE BEST. My fridge went out on Memorial Day, after buying a weekend load of groceries for my family that was in town. He came over within the hour - had all the parts he needed - and was done within 20 minutes. My fridge runs wonderfully and it's under warranty for parts and labor for the year. He diagnosed the problem with my GE Monogram fridge (piece of junk), and had it fixed within 30 mins. The service call cost a song and a dance at only $45, compared to at least $125 elsewhere; labor was around $25 cash; and parts cost sounded fair to me. I had the heating coils replaced via a GE service call a year ago and they charged me about $400; Joel would have charged me only $175. NEVER call the manufacturer for a service call again. Joel was awesome!! We noticed our fridge was not producing any cold air so we needed professional help. We gave Joel a call that evening and he was able to come over the very next day. He quickly identified that the fan motor was the issue. Since his truck was fully stocked, he was able to fix our fridge immediately. He was efficient and personable. Joel explained why our fridge wasn't working and the part that needed to be replaced. He even noticed that we had a leak in the fridge and made adjustments to prevent it from happening. I have a GE fridge that broke 2 days ago. The fridge wouldn't cool down no matter how high my settings were. My landlord contacted Adam's Refrigeration at noon and he dropped by within the hour. I guess I was lucky to receive his speedy service, but I was very impressed at his speed. Mr. Adams also inspected the fridge, demonstrated me the issue I was having with the fridge and told me as well as the landlord the cost before he conduct the work. Excellent, excellent service. The repairman was extremely knowledgeable and thorough in his repair of our refrigerator. Furthermore, service is extremely prompt (in both instances, we got a same day appointment to accommodate our schedules), and on time. And to top it all off, the prices are some of the best in town.
