Abode Winery is a place you must stop at while in Petaluma. The wine is simply amazing and Tony was just incredible. We just told him a tiny bit of what we liked and he went from there. He gave us each exactly what we liked and it was perfect. Tony was incredibly knowledgeable about all the wines and the history of the wine and grapes. Talking with him was just awesome. This is not about their wine, which as a member, I would also give five stars. This is about what a great job they have done to continue to share the joy of their remarkable wines while supporting local musicians and downtown restaurants. The "normal" tasting room is on the ground floor of the Great Petaluma Mill building and if you go through or around the building to the riverside, you will discover two well-situated outdoor tasting areas. One is on the ground floor alongside River Front Cafe and offers tastings at socially distanced tables with the added enjoyment of a river view. Special events are held on a ginormous deck accessible from a near-by flight of stairs. Check their website for event announcements. How it works is you reserve a table online (tables are covered by canopies) and for a small fee, Adobe provides live music and table-side bottle service. Plus, they encourage you to patronize your favorite local restaurants and enjoy a take out meal with your wine. BTW, the people watching from the deck is an event unto itself. As an added bonus on the night I was there, they had a buy-two get one free special on selected wines. Or, as it were, buy four and get two free ... we drank "some" and, yes, we took "some" home. While the wines were fine, the service was not. The woman behind the counter clearly had favorites, and we were left with empty glasses several times. Another couple at the bar were looking at purchasing a bottle, and they received quite a bit of attention. We were traveling and not planning on purchasing a bottle, just tasting. I feel that contributed to the lack of service. Very disappointing to have to get up for water from a machine with paper cups. Really? We can't be served a glass of water with the wine? Very odd. I must agree with the other review about the pourer. It looks cheap. It was also disappointed to see someone who clearly was a regular getting more than the 1oz pour. My wife and I, in the midst of running weekend chores, decided to come in for a "quick" tasting. The tasting turned into a 2 hour wine fest. Why? Because of the attention we received from the owner and employees. Both Kevin, their CEO, and Gail, their Director of Communications, went out of their way to spend time with us and pour us wines they thought we would enjoy. It was a fantastic experience. Rude staff! I came to Sonoma with my family who recently visited from back east. Adobe Road was the first winery we stopped in. The place had 2 small parties of about 3 people each doing tastings. The staff did not even say hello to my mother in law or myself, not even a "We'll be right with you". We stood around for 15 minutes without a single glance our way. We would've stayed and tasted had they even acknowledged our presence. Not recommended. I even witnessed 4 other couples leaving for the same reason. read more

Tastings require an appointment -- not a big deal as they're very accommodating. Had a large group, they met us there, showed us the race cars, and then to the tasting room. Great wine, great atmosphere and really friendly people. Highly recommend it. Great for private groups, and especially those that have a fetish with Porsches. Syrah and Zin are both great. Perhaps the best wine tasting I have ever had. I went for an adventure out of the city this past Sunday, by myself, and only after visiting Bodega Bay, getting lost, and stopping to charge my phone and get coffee, did I find myself at Adobe Road Winery. I had only meant to stop in to try some wine from the area, instead I ended up talking with Tara, the woman pouring my tastings, for three hours. Now, this was a Sunday and I was planning on spending only a short amount of time in Sonoma and then heading back home to prepare for work the next day; needless to say, this did not happen. I had such a wonderful time tasting their wine (the Pinot Noir was so good!) and chatting. I will be having a dinner party this weekend and will definitely be picking up some Adobe Road wine in the city. I cannot wait to go back and hopefully see Tara again! read more

If you want any organic wines, don't come to this place. But if you want to hear about the thesis that one of the employees wrote regarding the dismissal of sulfites causing any adverse health effects then come to this place. We understand that wines contain sulfites naturally, but we avoid consuming too many because of the hives and headaches my wife gets from them. So perhaps just answer with a "no, we have no organic wines" instead of a mansplaining lecture that indicates you think you know more than her doctor does. Directly from WebMD: "Sulfites are chemicals that are in some foods, either naturally or as additives. It's rare, but some people (about 1 in 100, according to the FDA) are sensitive to these compounds. Their reaction can range from mild to life-threatening. Sulfites aren't used on most fresh foods, but they're still in some cooked and processed ones. And they can also happen naturally in the process of making wine and beer. If you're sensitive to them, you need to avoid them. Always check labels on all food packages. When you eat out, ask your chef or server if sulfites are used or added to food before or during preparation". Directly from CVS Health: "You are considered to be sensitive to sulfites if you have an allergic reaction after consuming or applying this preservative. Dawn, Tony, and Sammy are the best wine pour-ers in town! So friendly and knowledgeable, they really take care of their customers! Also the wines here are amazing. The chard is perfectly balanced, the viognier is amazing, and the sauv Blanc is nice and floral and not acidic at all. And that's just the whites! The reds are great: the zin is at a great price point and lots of flavor, the Pinot is the only Pinot I've had that doesn't just taste like water (slightly sweet and light on the tongue). And don't get me started on the beckerstoffer (see pic). This cab is to die for. Anyway see for yourself! A group of friends and I made this our last stop today and the staff could not have been ruder. We were excited to try the wines after a friend recommended them. The website reads "walk-ins welcome" When our group of nine came in late in the day, we were turned away although the tasting room was pretty much empty. I come to Sonoma on a regular basis and have never had a poor experience, so this a disappointment. The blonde gentleman who shooed us out, could use a serious attitude check. How lucky is Petaluma for getting to steal this tasting room away from Sonoma? Adobe Road has been around for a long time, but they're just now going back to their roots with this new tasting room. It's in a good location in downtown and quite close to some of my favorite restaurants, meaning it's a nice place to stop before heading to dinner. As a wine lover, aficionado & avid cork collector I was very excited to have an afternoon to visit Sonoma County wine country mid-December following my attendance at the Luxury Travel Expo in Las Vegas. The flight into San Fran was quickly accomplished. My vocation is Travel Consultant for Family Groups (www.dna.travel) & regional travel, (www.coastalgeorgia.com). Day tripping to go on a "look-see" for client offerings is part of my job description. Early afternoon Dec. 11th, centered on a delightful visit to Domaine Caneros Taittinger following lunch at a local restaurant (another winery, another Yelp). Sonoma County vendors were shining brightly and quickly rising to the tops of our short list horizon. The fruits of toil & labor of Sonoma County are to be savored. As daylight began to wane, we took the advice of the senior staff at our only other winery stop and proceeded to downtown Sonoma. After stopping in at Roche and selecting a bottle of olive oil, we strolled over to Adobe Road Winery. Having absolutely no idea or preconceived notions of a Sonoma Tasting, we sat at the bar and were given tasting alternatives and a brief introduction to the wines. Wish now I"d kept tasting notes but was distracted by an enlarged photograph of a Muslim family (6 persons) riding on a motorcycle placed prominently on one wall. I remember making an ardent case for the nameless, faceless woman sandwiched in between her husband and children, barreling down another Adobe Road thousands of miles away. Doubtful she has ever tasted wine, nor the freedoms we experience here in the West. One could say very little about her, except her person was covered by a burqa. The irony fell thick in the room....neither my son (27) nor the 30 something woman serving our tasting seemed to think wearing a burqa had anything to do with lifestyle or lack thereof. Obvious generation gap..of course, these two younger people have always had access to freedom and freedom-of-choice. My statements about women having the right to choose whether or not nameless, faceless existence was preferable fell on deaf ears and made our tasting server uncomfortable. (Maybe it's just liberal California, where any and all social mores are readily accepted without question. The mindset is totally unlike my southern, conservative, east coast, middle-aged sensibilities, especially when an entire sex is traditionally nameless & faceless, as is often the case in fundamentalist countries.) Our tasting hostess appeared very professional. She accepted my son's aside of apologies for his Mother's transgressions against the liberal mindset. The hostess took my order, processed my credit card for a $130 shipment of wine to be delivered in time for Christmas Day Dinner and turned to meet her next customer, a male, one of obvious Middle East extraction. I waited and finally asked for my receipt, so intent was she on her new client. Ironically. Christmas Day came & went and finally January 2nd, I called my credit card company and requested a chargeback to recoup the costs of the original bil when the wine failed to show for Christmas dinner. Procedurally, I was told to contact the merchant, which I did earlier last week. There was no locatable record during the initial call which I believe I made on the 27th of Dec. Graciously, to my surprise, I had a msg. on my phone today, (01-03) after Adobe Road received the chargeback. Shortly thereafter a very nice woman representing the company called again with apologies and promised to "make it right". I suggested shipping the order would be a good start. She pro-offered the failure to ship wasn't their normal business procedure (of course not, wineries need to sell their product). However, the lack of wine as a Christmas Day gift, after having depended on ARW to ship to the family farm, left us with little backup. Our hostess pulled out a Sterling Vineyards 2004 Zin and all ended well. Thanks Napa. Moral of the story, don't mix wine & social mores or risk having your order end in the dregs. More irony. ARW offered to send gratis a free cork screw or a pair of wine glasses and free shipping. I asked her to surprise me, so we will see. Customer service is never an easy thing. Attention-to-detail or lack thereof can easily lose a customer. As someone who has traveled extensively and had many experiences, mostly positive, I'd say Adobe Road has a few miles to go, but if eventual followup is a mile marker, they'll finish, well, at the end of the road. This post will definitely have a follow-up. Wonder if the wine will taste as good the second time around? I'm betting YES. read more

I had only stopped in as a new local checking out the community scene and had a long and wonderful conversation with folks from Ontario Canada and other guests "On the Road" who had stopped to try these wonderful vintages.. Great spot on the Sonoma Square for some tasting. It was pretty quiet when I came with my boyfriend which ended up being great because we were able to learn more about the wine. The price of the tasting was a bit steep for my liking, $20 for 5-6 tastes, but I am also used to $5-10 at many wineries. We ended up splitting the taste which is a nice way to experience the flavors without the buzz. The wines were delicious and different in their flavors, all very smooth and easy to drink. I think my favorite part was the gorgeous bar made from planks of redwood and supported by wine barrels. read more

This is hands down my favorite little winery. I drive 50 miles just to buy a bottle of their Sauvigon Blanc aka Liquid Apple Pie. You can't have just one glass of it and before you know it you're in trouble because 2/3 of the bottle is gone. I have never had a problem getting service there. The same cute blonde has always helped me, she was very informative and friendly. It's a great place to just relax and have some great wine and great conversation. However make sure you buy at least a couple bottles of wine because one is never enough, I've even got my girlfriends hooked and they always ask me to pick up a bottle or two for them. read more

The only reason I am giving it 4 stars is because the decor inside (outside is good) is distractingly bad - admittedly I am easily distracted by less than stellar decor. Lose the wallpaper border and garishly mixed bold paint colors on every surface and I'll happily add that last star :) I did like the art on the walls, but the paint on the walls competes with it. Tasted at Adobe Road this past Sunday. The tasting room was pretty quiet when we got there, just 2 other people but did fill up as we tasted. The woman helping us was very friendly and let us taste more than just what was on the tasting menu we selected. Overall the wines were good and very reasonably prices, I even joined their wine club and walked out with 7 bottles of wine. We came from about an hour and a half away and saw their outdoor patio area and new we had to go. We did the Reserve tasting and I can't remember our pourers name. He is a white gentlemen maybe between 50-60 and was a high school math teacher. I'm so sorry I can't remember your name-- I had wine okay . But he was absolutely phenomenal. My boyfriend really loves wine and works at a different winery where we live. Our pourer let my boyfriend just pick his brain and ask him anything. It was so sweet and so kind and really was the highlight of our weekend trip for him. Besides that, the wine is just to die for. We bought a bottle of the La Familigia, Viorgne, Rose, and Chardonnay. The la familigia is to die for. It's a blend of 3 reds and 1% viogner and we might order a case and have it shipped to our house everything else we tried was phenomenal, I wish we had a bigger wine budget. I was so disappointed after learning my appointment at Hendry winery was mis-scheduled. Trying to make lemonade out of lemons I decided to check out Adobe Wines which I had taken note of at a dinner at Morton's. Wow, I am so glad I landed up at Adobe. We ordered both tasting flights, the regular and the reserve, and I enjoyed every glass which is a surprise as I normally don't like certain varietals. Alec was funny and informative and we had a great time in addition to picking up some great wines. As Adobe Road is unavailable where I live except if I visit a Morton's, I decided to join the wine club which meant our tastings were free and I got a discount on our bottles. I couldn't be happier how it all turned out and am looking forward to receiving my reds! read more

Wines were great and so was Larry our host. $15 tasting fee which is reasonable for Napa Sonoma area but would love it even more if that included more wines or was waived when you purchase two or more bottles. Otherwise really enjoyed their new place. $15 fee was 3 different varieties, $25 for 5 varieties and I've now forgotten what the third option was. In Placer County and Shenandoah Valley (in our area of CA) those fees are typically waived if you are buying bottles of wine. read more

Nice tasting room with friendly and prompt staff. Adobe Road's wines are all very well made. If you're looking for lighter, balanced wines, this is a great place to go tasting. They don't go for big, bold fruit bombs or lots of oak in their whites, but instead strive for more subtle wines that grow on you as you sip them.
