Now I know you all may be a little skeptic with going to Tijuana just for tacos , let alone going there for dental work, but don't believe the stigma. This is a top professional dental office that had nothing but EXCELLENT reviews! One thing that really made me want to go , is the fact that all of the employees are BI-Lingual , which is soooo good because I don't know a lick of Spanish . When I got to the office , I had to get buzzed in by the employees which is a good sign because it reassured my safety. When i walked in the office, everything was top notch! So clean and the girls at the front desk were sooo welcoming and sooo informative. I have to give a shoutout to my girls Paola and Sofie (the two girls in my pictures) that we're soooo helpful and always remembered who I was when I called to follow up. That really showed that they cared for my experience and really enjoyed their job enough to always greet me on the phone with kindness and always helping with my appointments!!! I wanted to come in and get a few crowns but they gave me a whole new smile makeover!!! I legit couldn't stop smiling after leaving the office! They priced me and helped me with deals!!! ****if you pay cash upfront , you get a 10% discount**** which really helped me! One crown in the US ranges from $800.00-$1,400 per crown.. But a crown here in Mexico aka Tijuana is priced $450.00!! And they were worth it!!! I also want to give a huge shoutout to my Dentist who gave me my new pearly whites! Thank you sooo much DR. When I initially spoke with the dentist I was assured that once I had my permanent dentures I would be able to bite and chew normally. Not true! My permanent dentures are too big for my mouth, dig into my gums causing great discomfort, and pop off whenever I bite into anything harder than a banana. Even though they were the priciest I went with them because I believe you get what you pay for but apparently not. I gave them 3 stars because the people are all very nice, professional and competent and the office is clean and modern. They also did a great job on my extractions. If you need extractions and don't mind paying more than the other dentists in the area I would recommend them. If not for this I would have given one star. I went to their office on Friday, Nov. 3, 2017 and I wish it was sooner. I never thought I'd be able to afford dental healthcare, I was wrong. After a U.S. doctor's visit cost me a good chunk of change(for a physical wtf), I knew I'd have to sacrifice getting my teeth checked out in the U.S. With the exception of going to the dentist in 2014 to get wisdom teeth removed, I hadn't been examined in nearly two decades. Going to Advanced Smiles made that choice look foolish. It is so much easier than you think it is. If you're worried about your car, you can always park on the U.S. side. It's about a half mile walk to get across the border. Once in Mexico, you can call yourself a Lyft or have the office do it for you. If you don't speak the language or you lack Mexican friends, I recommend having Google Translate to help you. Also, it'd be helpful to carry some waters, sandwiches, and a external battery to charge your phone. Tips aside, I arrived at their office. They were very generous in receiving me. At the office, you can shut off Google Translate. The majority of people in there speak fantastic English. Makes you think your Lyft driver took a wrong turn and landed you back in the U.S. They examined my mouth and were very upfront about what pricing was going to be for me. At that point, I can buzz off or continue. I chose continue because it was a steal what they were charging me. A dental exam, X-rays, deep cleaning, and ten cavities filled(yeah, I know, got to lay off the sweets) all for $670 dollars. In Los Angeles, this easily would've been thousands of dollars. They worked on my mouth for five and a half hours, making a cowardly lion as comfortable as he can be. I remember the dental assistant told me,"It must be exhausting to have your mouth open so long." I shot back,"You guys are the ones doing all the hard work, I'm just laying on my back." After finishing, they called me a Lyft back to the U.S. I sat in the car obsessively staring at my phone, using it as a mirror to check out my teeth. I was astonished by the care they took bringing my mouth back to glory. It's been a few days, and my mouth feels great and looks great. Don't be a fool like I was. My experience wasn't very good. I wanted it to be good. They preformed 3 root canals at the same day. That part was done very well. Came back a few weeks later. My crowns didn't fit well. 2 weeks later 1 crown crumbled. The second one was too big and crumbled as well. Now can see the metal fitting. He shaved down one of teeth to make the crown fit. Guess what, that tooth has a cavity now and I need a root canal. So I need 1 rootcanal and two new crowns. They charged me 2300 dollars. Will not be back unless they fix their mistakes. read more

TL;DR Advanced Smiles is amazing! I would give 10 stars if I could. I began looking into dentists in Mexico after being told that my dental work in CA would cost well over $15k. When I told my CA dentist that there was no way that I could afford that insane cost, and they told me that they provided payment plans. I was not going into major debt over this. I had heard that dentistry in Mexico was substantially cheaper for the exact same thing. When I told my family/friends that I was considering this course of action they all gave me the same "you're going to Mexico?!" reaction. Despite their reservations, my wife and I went ahead and made the appointment. Our experience was fantastic! Everyone there speaks great English so there is no miscommunication. Their equipment is top of the line and their bedside manner is perfect. Every time I walk in, I am greeted as warmly as if I were entering a friend's house. They do all they can to make you as comfortable as possible while working on you. Also, I get really anxious at the dentist and they noticed this and offered an anti-anxiety medicine (which really helped). I ended up having 5 appointments with them to remove 2 wisdom teeth, repair a broken tooth, perform 2 root canals, some fillings, and a cleaning. Dr. Celia was phenomenal. She sat me down and walked me through all my options, allowing me to choose what I felt was best. I thought that I would have to have my broken tooth pulled and have an implant put in (which would have cost a lot more money), but Dr. Celia was able to save the tooth. I was amazed! After each appointment, they would call and check in on me to see how I was feeling. They even helped me get an uber to the pharmacy and back to the border crossing. I got a cleaning done in the US last year, left the office with a serious quote... more than $8000. I'm from Europe and I hadn't been to the dentist for years since I had moved to the US... Well, a few months later, I chipped one tooth on Thanksgiving Day, after doing lots of research on where to go without breaking the bank... I decided to call Advanced Smiles Dentistry, got an appointment the next day. I parked my car in the US, crossed the border by foot, Sofia called an Uber for me and stayed on the phone until I got in the car to make sure I was safe. I was very pleased with everyone speaking perfectly English and how nice, confortable and clean was their office. All the girls were very friendly and informative, I was offered water and wifi password while filling out some paperwork. Dr Thelma Toledo performed a thorough exam, Xrays, gave me a quote, which looked just like the one I got in the US, needless to say, MUCH more affordable ! I ended up paying 1/3 of what I'd have paid in San Diego. Crowns, root canal, cavities, old fillings that needed to be replaced... you name it! My husband also came with me for a deep cleaning. A few appointments later and many hours at their office...I left today for the last one and I'm beyond satisfied with Dr Toledo's work. She is sweet, patient, professional and dedicated to provide the best service. She answered all my questions, and took really good care of me. I asked for a mouthguard grinding and whitening kit, took the impressions today and they'll be mailing it directly to my house when ready, that is what I call great service ! I also want to thank all the girls that helped me along the way, from calling me a ride back and forth to the border many many times, to calling me in between appointments to follow up: Carolina, Liz, Vanessa, Andrea, Sofia, all the Dr's assistants and those I forgot; outstanding service, you are all amazing! Highly overrated. After a year of spending over $10,000 here, my teeth are again failing. Then the rep at Advanced Smiles turns around and blames me for it. Better quality care and assurance in the United States. Won't go back. I chose Advanced Smiles Dentistry upon referral of a trusted friend and I could not have been happier with my experience here. Dr. José Metzler was not only compassionate and friendly but an extreme perfectionist who would not let me leave until my teeth were absolutely perfect. I had a full-blown upper arch overhaul So after about 3.5 days of work (over two weeks) and 30 hours together in the chair together I was fully convinced that he was the right person for the job. He was a tentative to my every need, noticed my body language & constantly checked in with me to make sure I was OK and if I needed anything. I have never been treated by a dentist so well in my life. I have very sensitive teeth and have always had extreme dental anxiety which was lessened by my Experience here. If you are like me I cannot afford major cosmetic dentistry in the United States, this is your place! The staff is extremely knowledgeable, polite and helpful. The facility was extremely clean, sanitized and worked like a well oiled machine. Something I have yet to experience in the United States, and I have been going to the dentist for over 30 years. My fiancé and I were very hesitant about going to Tijuana for dental procedures but it all worked out beyond expectations. A dentist in San Diego told my fiancé that he would need a root canal on his chipped tooth and Dr. Thelma double checked only to find out that he actually didn't need a root canal. He just needed a fill and a crown. We ended up paying 1/3 of what they wanted to charge us in San Diego. Dr. Thelma's office is very clean and the receptionist were very nice. The customer service here is amazing, they will direct you and walk you through every single step! Simply wow. What an amazing job of getting my smile just right. I highly recommend. Don't be scared of dental tourism with places like this. Edit.,,, While I will still be giving this place 5 stars as my experience was much better than anything you could afford in the States, I will give a few honest critiques: -If you do pay cash, they will give you 10% off. However, since you have to pay for 70% of the total at the first appointment, they will only take 10% once you have 100% completed the payment. Understandably, this can make for some difficult math, but for god's sake, write it down somewhere. I had to fight on the final day with the receptionist about how much I should have to pay due to me paying in installments of cash. They were trying to say I would only be getting 10% off my final installment. I had to carefully go over the history was was very close to not receiving the discount if I didn't fight it. I understand it's Mexico, but I don't think you should be haggling around the agreed upon payment plan. -I was also uncomfortable with the main dentist Dr. Julian haggling with me at the last minute. I did six veneers but he was trying to convince me to go with 8 up until the last minute. It can be a little unnerving with that kind of uncertainty going up into a pretty major dental procedure. I just wanted the agreed upon procedure that we had discussed in two previous visits done. I don't want to throw last minute modifications to it. -Also, they tried to throw in a mouth guard after it was all said and done for an extra 150 bucks. They said it was absolutely necessary but did not mention it until everything was done. If it is critical, it should be put in the bill and not sprung on the customer at the last minute. It's these little things that let you know you are still in Mexico. Overall, great job. My critiques are very minor, but I should be honest with the business owners if they want to know what makes Americans uncomfortable about Dental tourism. PS. I was really hesitant about going to Mexico to get my wisdom teeth pulled, but after getting quoted almost $3,000 from an oral surgeon in San Diego I changed my mind. I made an appointment the day before I arrived. They put me on a waiting list and luckily called back because one of my teeth was causing me a lot of pain so I was desperate. Upon arrival the office looked like any other dental practice in San Diego: very clean, high tech, and everyone was friendly and informative. After getting X-rays, they quoted me $1,000 for all four extractions which saved me almost $2,000!!The doctor was extremely knowledgeable and kind. However she told me one of my teeth was going to be difficult because it was impacted & close to the nerve, so I chose to be sedated (an extra $400 for the 2 hour procedure). The three other teeth came out with no pain, but this tooth... worst pain I've ever been in even being all numbed up and sedated. So here's my advice. If you know you have impacted teeth I might think twice about coming here because their sedation isn't a laughing gas and you won't be put under general anesthesia. It's basically Valium which helps a lot but definitely isn't the same. However, considering the amount of money I saved I don't regret my decision at all! It's been a week since the procedure and I'm healing really well so overall it was a great financial decision and I'd definitely come back to get other work done. In my opinion, Dr Thelma Toledo is one of the few dentists on either side of the border who lives up to the title of doctor. While I can't give a general review of all Mexican dentists, I would whole-heartily recommend her to anyone considering going to Mexico to save on exorbitant dental prices in the US. I just had a consultation today with a dentist on an unrelated issue, who was extremely impressed with the crowns that Dr Thelma did for me. She said they were beautiful. I didn't know how good they were at the time, since I had some jaw pain at the time, but after a few days when my jaw realigned, wow, what a difference. The crowns had been done right and now for the first time in my adult life, I feel like I have a normal bite. My jaw has aligned perfectly and I literally thank her in my mind when I eat something and have comfort chewing now. Other people are reviewing other dentists in that office, so people may have their favorite dentists in that office that they like, I had a super experience, so I am partial and will only let her work on me going forward. read more

If you're American and are on the fence about getting dental work done in Mexico... Read my review and then make an appointment!!!!! First of all I'd like to start this review by mentioning that I am from San Diego and was quite hesitant about going to Mexico for dental care. But after my experience with Dr. Larissa at Advanced Smile Dentistry I will recommend this dentist to my friends and family no matter where they live. I personally don't have dental insurance which is what brought me to Mexico for dental work. I had a tooth that had cracked on me a while ago that I needed to have fixed and knew that it would require a crown and I knew I couldn't afford to pay for that out of pocket in the U.S. I made an appointment over the phone and when my appointment day came it was a quick and easy drive across the border into TJ, and they have a pay parking lot right across the street from the office building which made it quite convenient. Dr. Larissa was extremely friendly and took the time to explain everything that they recommended for my dental care. They did a full set of X-rays, and examination, and thorough cleaning all within the first hour. All of the equipment they use is just as good, if not better, than the dental equipment you would find in an American dentist office. Dr. Larissa was very cognizant of any time I was uncomfortable and altered her techniques to avoid any pain I may have been feeling. When it came time to work on the cracked tooth that I came in for she did her very best to avoid a root canal, but after removing the damaged tooth and taking multiple X-rays it was aware that the best course of action for the future health of my tooth was to do a root canal and and prep for a crown instead of a filling. They have a root canal specialist (Dr. Luis) and he came in immediately to perform the root canal and then Dr. Larissa returned to do the build-up on my tooth. One thing that I'd like to mention is how busy this office is, but even so, Dr. Larissa still fit me into her schedule the very next day to have my temporary crown put on, and 5 days later to cement the permanent crown. I told Dr. Larissa before we started that I was moving across the country in a week and a half and she did everything necessary to make sure I would have all the work done before my departure date. Even though I am moving to Missouri, I plan to return to Advanced Smile Dentistry in the future to have Dr. Larissa fix a couple of fillings that she found that needed work. I'm a SoCal resident and have made the drive down here when in absolute dire straits. The staff and personnel here are all top notch and highly qualified in their respective fields. Their customer service is extremely helpful and they make you feel completely welcomed and comfortable. They take insurance and even no insurance/out of pocket and their services are not as financially brutal as they are in the states. Unfortunately, I am uninsured and finding adequate coverage and dentist offices to do a great job at an affordable rate is like pulling teeth in and of itself. All the staff here are the utmost professionals, most if not all are educated, trained, and certified all in the USA. You're in absolute great hands here. Everything here is straightforward & actually easier to understand than what I've experienced in the States. They provide detailed printed info sheets showing whats what, where triage is necessary & what can wait. The staff has excellent communication skills & it's really quick & easy to get to from LA. Just drive to the border, park at the outlet malls, cross the border & hop in an Über. I said to the Dr., " Should I just get an implant rather than replace my crown?" She said," No, a tooth is an organ. Its a part of your body & if I were you I would keep it as long as I can." That is a very human thing to say, & I really appreciate it. Caring staff, beautiful and modern office, incredible prices! I came here for a root canal plus a bunch of other stuff. There were complications with my RC and they explained everything in great detail and made me feel as comfortable as possible. The huge negative for me, which has nothing at all to do with this clinic or my experience with them, is the expense, hassle, and time involved with traveling to TJ so often. I live in San Diego (Alpine) so it's about a 45 min drive to the border. I park on the US side, and on Saturdays it's $25 to park plus $7 taxi to the clinic. They call an Uber ($5 with tip) for me to get back to the border. Then there's often a three hour wait to walk back across. It's an all day, exhausting, expensive, bummer. I think I've had 5 visits there so far with several more to go. I'm still saving a ton of money, but the inconvenience really isn't worth it for me. I have a crazy stressful job and spending an entire Saturday in TJ is not how I want to spend my day off. With that being said, if you live out of state and need a lot of work, you can stay in a hotel in TJ for a few days and get it all done at once. My experience with Dr. Julian Sevilla at Advanced Smile Dentistry was perfect. Make no mistake, I'd bet I had the same feelings of trepidation as you do now. Anecdotally, when I was telling my sister about my experience, her eight-year-old daughter cried out, "Mexico?? Is that even sanitary??" Eight years old!! There is no hiding our (American) prejudice when it comes to healthcare. I may smirk at my niece, but I myself lived in Mexico during weekends over the course of four years and never once visited a healthcare facility there because of this. At least for critical (not just routine) dental work, I realize now what a shame that is! Rather than dump a whole bunch of subjective exclamatories on you about how great this place is, let me point out some factual observations and let you decide for yourself: Why did I finally go here? I'll admit - it was a very, very dire emergency that got me to consider going to Mexico. For starters, I had a very bad cavity that decided to act up intensely the Friday just before Christmas (Monday). My dentist here is only open Monday through Wednesday. Even if they were open, I had just gotten laid off and was between insurance coverage. I had considered biting the bullet and paying the ludicrous fees for dental work in the U.S., but the pain was getting to the point where I could barely walk! Mexico it was. How did I pick this place? Just like you are doing now - going through Yelp. I picked this for the obvious reason of having the highest number of good reviews. I also picked out one other that allowed walk-ins (since this place is by appointment only). Lastly, I printed out the search results in case neither place panned out. While driving down to the border, I called both places at around 8:30 am. The walk-in place was fully booked (what?! LOL) and this place just happened to have an opening at 12:30 pm. Done. Was it easy to find? How as parking? Is the area safe? NOT easy to find. At the time of my visit, there was no clear signage in front of the building. Note that I speak and read Spanish and my wife who was with me is from Mexico. We did finally find the building address and the first unit on the right side is the dentist. There is signage once you get inside that building. The entrance to the small office is secure with a buzzer and the receptionist having to let you in. Parking is not abundant so you may have to wait or circle the block. We luckily found a spot no more than half a block down from the front of the building. There is a small park area along with other office and dental units. It is a very safe area although you may not immediately think so based on your standards. How were the people? Do they speak English? The folks that work at this place are extremely professional and cordial. It became apparent to me that they are well aware of the stereotypes and work very hard to mitigate any concerns you might have. For the general staff, English is functional and you can discuss general concepts with them. However, I struggled to explain more detailed concepts about my issue. For the doctors however, their English was impeccable. They understood English just as well as any American dentist I have had (perhaps even better than some!). And my doctor actually read the existing issues and medication I pointed out in the initial paperwork - that's new! As you might guess, many of the patients were not local residence but rather folks that came across the border for care. I even overheard the receptionist arranging a ride for one Japanese gentleman to get back to the San Ysidro border. How as the procedure itself? Was a mule and old rope involved at all? No mule no old ropes. In fact, the initial x-ray was done with a much less intrusive CAT scan machine! The anesthesia was spot on and graduated just like any dental visit I have had in the states. The work area was extremely clean and everyone was very cordial and professional. There was a lot of welcoming small talk that made me feel very relaxed during the entire procedure. The procedure itself was the extraction of a dropped molar that had a very awful cavity. The doctor explained very clearly how he intended to proceed and how long it would take. In the end, I had very little pain, the problem was taken cared of, and in less time than estimated. The cost fell in the middle of the cash price estimate that I was quoted over the phone earlier that day. After the procedure, my doctor took the time to explain how to ensure proper healing and went to great lengths to explain certain risks since I am a smoker. I had this sense that he genuinely was concerned and not just checking off the "what-to-tell-patients-when-done" list. I can't convey enough how comfortable I felt with Dr. Julian Sevilla. Amazing! Will definitely be back for years to come. I've never had such an enjoyable dentist experience. Don't be afraid of going to TJ, it's fine and everyone speaks English here. I crossed the border and jumped in a taxi to Advanced Smiles Dentistry, $5. It was about 12pm and I was super hungry. Knowing I wouldn't eat much after dental work, I hit up the taco stand out front and it was delicious. Great carne asada and birria tacos. The dental office staff were extremely nice! From the Receptionist to the X-Ray Tech to the Doctor... all amazing people. They took great care of me and it was painless. Afterwards I stopped by Plaza Rio to do some shopping. read more

I have found my Dentist! I have been putting off some reconstructive dental care for some time and finally decided to look into Dentists in Mexico. Based on other reviews I went with Advanced Dental Care and am thrilled I did! From phone conversations w Poala to all of the friendly assistants and Dr. Jose Metzler, all were very professional and personable and comforting. The office was very modern and staff was constantly cleaning. They have state of the art equipment and facilities...I was very impressed with the technology. Best part was there has been very minimal discomfort during the recovery for all of the work I had done the first day. The employees at Advanced Smiles in Tijuana are the nicest and most accommodating people you will ever meet! I must admit that I was a bit nervous because I needed A LOT of dental work....5 root canals, 5 crowns, and several fillings! I haven't been to the dentist in many years because I have so much anxiety with dental work. They put me at ease from the moment I walked into their office. Sophia was the sweetest lady and really made things so much easier for me by making sure I had safe transportation to and from my hotel. She has a genuine heart for helping others. The other office girls were just as kind and helpful. They always had a smile on their pretty faces! Dr. Larissa was the most patient dentist/doctor I've ever met! She worked on me for a total of 4 days.... and the 1st 2 days she worked on me from opening until closing! She never rushed me and made sure that I was very numb before proceeding with any treatment. She is young but VERY smart and skilled! I traveled from Mississippi to get my work done. I was quoted $13k for work done in the states but only paid $4500 here at Advanced Smiles. I would recommend Advanced Smiles to any of my family members. They made my experience the best! Also, they gave me a pill to help me relax during the treatment. I slept through so much of the work! Finally, a dentist office in the Tijuana area I'm not scared to walk into and run as fast as I can from. My wife and I have walked into some really questionable dentist offices in Baja, many of which either smell like raw sewage or are simply dirty. When you're in an office thats in the business of reaching into your mouth, the last thing you want is for the place to look and smell dirty! This office is clean and professional and is more reminiscent of one you'd find in San Diego. It's also nice that everyone also speaks English. Will continue to go back! read more

It took me a while to commit to dental treatment in Mexico, but after doing some research I found this clinic on Yelp and decided to go for it. The clinic was very easy to find and it has a cheap parking lot in the front. All the staff members are very professional and friendly. They speak very good English and take time to answer all your questions. You get the doctor all to yourself. I loved my experience here and will definitely be back. read more

Coming from Seattle I only had a few days to interview dentists for extensive work. The $$ charged back home made the work prohibitive. I was luck to fill a last minute cancellation for the first appointment of the day on my way to consult with 2 other dentists. The Yelp reviews had this place as my first choice but I was late in setting up an appointment and didn't expect to get in. Fast forward and easy drive into Tijuana, parked, filled in health history forms and a free in depth consultation. I had been to another clinic that charged for the CT scan but since they wanted from their own "state of the art" 3d equipment they did it for no charge. With multiple options discussed and 3 different dentist in the room to review the case I was convinced I was in the right place. So much so that I decided to get started. Somehow they squeezed me in and after an almost 4 hour procedure I left with a beautiful new upper temporary. I came back two days later to fine tune things so I could get on a plane back home. Being right at the border of San Diego gives the option of staying in the US. Next time I think I'll head to Rosarita Beach or stay at the Marriott in Tjuana which is nothing like it was when I was last there 30 years ago. Very modernized and lots of English spoken. Dr. Julian and his staff have me the feeling that my comfort and care was their primary concern. Can't wait to go back to complete the job. Had two crowns done here. I was pretty nervous about the dentist in general, but they made things so comfortable! When we crossed the border, we gave them a call and they arranged an Uber for us. When you walk in, they offer you bottled water. Everyone was so friendly and nice in the office. Wait time was just a couple of minutes, got to my chair and had X-rays done, then discussed my treatment plan. My dentist here caught things that the one in the US didn't. I mentioned I was nervous, and they gave me something to help with that. She explained everything to me in clear detail about the work they were doing. At one point, I got cold (because I am always cold) and they pulled out a blanket! I came back about a week later to have the zirconia crowns put in. I am very happy with them, and my experience at Advanced Smiles Dentistry. I would choose this office again without question. It was a great experience! read more
