Came across a craigslist ad for a dishwasher and called on a Sat evening to ensure the company still had it available. Lady named Jerry stayed they did and offered to let us come the following day (Sunday) though the business was closed. Was impressed by offer but said we would come 1st thing Monday morning for it. Drove just under an hour Monday to make purchase to be informed by male employee that he wasn't familiar with the items and after searching the main store area and back noted they did not have the item. Said the two people who would know had dentists appointments. (Why would you not have it ready if you knew customers were coming first thing in morning? !) He was unable to provide information on the two units in show room saying he didn't know if they even worked. . Called Jerry again on her after hour phone and sent to voicemail. Having taken the day off work to purchase and install this I can say we are less than pleased. Will happily update changes of opinion if applicable. Well, the day went by without a return phone call, an apology, etc. It cost is double their price to buy a new appliance. Won't return there again. read more

I have been so happy with the used Whirlpool stove that I bought in December from Affordable Appliances. It was totally worth the hour drive from where I live in Winfield. I had looked online for used appliances because the glass front of the brand new GE stove that I bought actually exploded while I was away for Christmas. When I saw that all the new stoves had the totally glass fronts, I decided I would look for an old stove with a smaller window with plenty of metal in the door around it. As I looked online, I wasn't sure about the condition of stoves bought from individuals selling them on Craig's list. I was glad to find a place that cleans, repairs and reconditions them with a 90 day guarantee. This stove and oven are the best I've ever had. I'm a baker so I noticed that the oven heats very evenly. Everything on the stove works great, like it's supposed to. So, if you are looking for a used appliance, I would highly recommend going here to look! read more

Wayne was great! He installed my Bosch dishwasher after a large "expert" company from McHenry refused to install it (it was taken out of my previous kitchen and had electric tape staining on the ground wire). We've used him before and I should have called him first. This place is simply unacceptable. We have 2 appliances that we were hoping to sell to them. I contacted them in May of 2016 and they never returned my call. When I started calling them earlier this month, again we got to brush off. I would leave a voicemail and they never called me back. When I finally got a hold of someone, they asked me to send them pictures to a cell phone. I sent them and again, never heard back from them. When I followed up with them the next week, they claimed they never saw the pictures and asked to send them via email. Again, I send them the pictures and again they never called or responded to my email. After I called them the following week to get an update, the lady at the store said she would take the appliances for $50. We agreed on a date for them to stop by and guess what...they never showed up. No call, no show. When I called them the next day, they didn't return my call or even answer the phone. After another round of phone calls on my part, they promised they would stop by this past Saturday to pick up the appliances, but again, never stopped by. When we had to call them again, they made an excuse and said they would stop by on Sunday. Again...no call, no show. Today my husband called them and what do you know, they came up with some more excuses as to why they hadn't gotten back to us. I called them immediately after I spoke with my husband and told them I was tired of the excuses and brush off. This place is poorly managed and though claims to be "sorry," isn't. The man at the store then called me shortly thereafter and said he would still be willing to look at the appliances. I told him that would be fine, as long as he showed up. We arranged from him to stop by at 5:30. Guess what?! He didn't show up until 5:45. He took one look at the appliances and said he couldn't take them based on their "color." WTF?! Your establishment had the pictures and knew what we were selling. I hope this place runs itself into the ground. They have horrible customer service and basically couldn't just come out and say they didn't want the damn appliances. We are all adults here...if you see the pictures and don't want them, say something. Don't give me the run around and waste my time and energy. I wouldn't purchase an appliance at this place and you better believe I won't be trying to sell something to them again. People of Lakemoor and the surrounding towns, this place is a joke and isn't worth your time. read more

I appreciated the time given to me in touring the facility for a machines and their clear stating of policy. Unfortunately, that's about it. Had a handshake deal for $700 for two machines delivered, installed, with removal of old machines. Though this was not really "all the value at 1/2 the price" as they claimed, I thought it was at the edge of reasonable and accepted it. The machines came, I requested photos and model numbers before deposit (in line with policy). A day later I got photographs - all appeared fine. They would not honor the agreed $700 price, however. Be careful of who you deal with. Jeri presented herself as someone with authority to contract by agreeing on the price but then was seemingly overturned by someone in the background over the phone. Honor seemed to have little place at Affordable Appliances. read more

They were very accommodating and went above and beyond what I expected. They installed the washer and dryer and replaced the old vent tube when they noticed a hole. I wanted to sell my old unit so they took that one down the stairs and put it in my van for me. They were so nice and efficient. read more

SHE'S BLACK. As I recently posted, Pat gifted me a washer after being without one for over 6 months. He bought it from a used appliance store. I was elated! 6 months of hauling Lilli to and from the laundry mat, in the rain, snow, etc, my troubles and frustration was finally over. At first Pat just thought I didn't know how to use the damn thing as it would shut off at the spin cycle. He finally figured out that it's a timer. Fortunately, our brand new, used, washer came with a 90 day warranty. I e-mailed the people at Affordable Appliances in Lakemoor, attaching the invoice as well as a brief e-mail describing the problem. I called them later that day, spoke with the owner, and he stated that his best friends father had passed away and that his schedule was hectic. He said they could possibly do Saturday, but if not definitely Sunday. His wife called me later that night, re-stating that they had a funeral but that they would be here on Saturday, early. Saturday arrived, I woke up early, cleaned up the laundry room, and nothing. I then woke up early on Sunday expecting them to be here in the morning as the owner stated (since they stood me up Saturday morning), nada. I called today and re-stated the problem and that I didn't appreciate being stood up (I wasn't belligerent, but I also wasn't Dorothy from The Wizard of Oz as I was/am frustrated with my laundry situation and the fact that I had been stood up- twice.). The owner's wife was defensive and just all around unpleasant, ending the call (as in hanging up on me) with a "Tell your husband to call me as I will not talk to you). I had Pat meet me at the appliance store. I walked into the store with Lilli and Pat and said "My husband is here", to which she replied "You need to leave" . I did. Immediately. Pat came out of the store about ten minutes later and said "She said 'You're drunk, she's black' you need to leave or I am going to call the police". I was speechless. SPEECHLESS. All I could muster to say was "Did she really say that?" as I choked back tears. He replied "Yes, she really said that". The owner/husband called me about 20 minutes later. He was obviously trying to butter me up as he was ridiculously polite. I explained that this had gotten out of hand. I was the customer. We paid for a working washer- $275.00 to be exact. He then explained that his wife was just trying to describe me in case she ended up dead. I'm sorry but does "being black" and him being "allegedly drunk" really put it in perspective? Would that really assist in a lineup? 1 drunk male, and 1 black female? My hair is purple!!!! Like really purple. Not many people in Lakemoor, or even McHenry County for that matter with purple hair. He's white and was wearing a bright yellow shirt. Wouldn't those be a more accurate descriptions of people? I also asked him if she mentioned that I had my 5 year old daughter with me. He snickered and said "No, she didn't". He promised to come tomorrow to fix it, as I never asked for a refund! Ever! All I want is a working washer.... the washer of my dreams to function normally! I am disgusted. SHE'S BLACK! It's 2016. It is a sad state of affairs that not only did I not get exemplary customer service and care as we paid for a working device, but it has escalated to this.....the color of my skin.
