It's always expensive, but it was a good price and with the pace these guys worked, it worked out to be good value. Bad attitudes from most the guys from the get go, people came yawning and looking tired and miserable then walked around judgmental speaking to each other in their language making angry faces clearly taking about me and my stuff then packed my belongings judgmental with someone even asking me why I had so much stuff. They also should have one shift of people to pack and a new shift of people to unpack because everything took a long time 9:40 to 8pm for a one bedroom. and wasn't affordable in any manner. The manager is a low life refuses to communicate this company is trash, guys were even arguing with each other. Totally unprofessional then they stole my dolly and lied and said that it never existed! The manager refuses to government dolly back, I don't even accuse them of taking it I just said they must have accidentally took it but now their denying it ever existed, they used it to move my stuff and took it if it was an accident I understand but now their denying are all lying including the manager. Save yourself the trouble and hire anyone else! I feel sorry for the guys because they all seemed tired but some behaved hateful, they should just quit and not take out their anger on customers. In the end someone packed a subway sandwich and chipotle that was rotting in my boxes by the time I could unpack and I know that was on purpose. I was nothing but respect and tried to be kind but now they are lying, they also ripped my floor and refuse to give me their insurance company info so may need to go to small claims court soon all because they refuse to do the right thing after I paid over 3k. I informed them that I did not want to exceed 3 hours and they got the work done with about 15 min to spare! I interacted them how I wanted some of my items packed and they complied with no issues at all. They handled my belongings as if they were their own. I really appreciated that. I found them through the yelp app and was somewhat reluctant but I am very glad that I chose them. What a crappy experience. Arrived late. One guy was on his cell phone dealing with personal stuff while I'm paying him by the hour. They forgot to give me two glass tops they left in their truck. One mover lost or stole a box of items. Damaged my floor. Additionally I was offered to buy an ounce of marijuana at the end of this unpleasant experience. What a joke. Hired 3 movers and one stayed in the truck mostly. They were not affordable and took their time billing me by the hour. I had to help pack and shrink wrap everything in the interest of time. They weren't efficient. Terrible experience and I would never use LA movers. They are not bonded movers and won't cover lost items. And, are your friends all skinny modelrexics who couldn't help you lift a coffee table if their gorgeously-cheekboned, gamine lives depended on it, because their coke-and-cigarette diets have rendered them helpless? (The fact that they all drive Smart Cars or Mini Coopers can't help) Well, it's Melrose Moving to the rescue, sexy! This is my second time using Melrose Moving, and once again I'm happy and impressed with their service. Are they the cheapest movers out there? No, but they ARE licensed, bonded, and insured, unlike the douchebags from Craigslist you might have otherwise hired, who would no doubt strain their backs lifting your industrial-sized liquor cabinet (because you throw industrial-sized parties, love) and now want to sue you for thousands (but will settle for an extra C-note and a the rest of that bottle of Svedka on the counter). The men from Melrose moving work quickly, too, despite the fact that they get paid on an hourly labor rate. It all starts with visiting www.melrosemoving.com and requesting an online quote. You simply fill in your old address, destination address, and approximately how many rooms worth of material you will need moved. Within the same day (within a few minutes, in my case) you will receive a call by one of MM's representatives to explain their services (moves are scheduled as early as 8am and as late as 4pm, seven days a week), and set up your appointment time. You can also skip the website and just call the phone number listed above. Basically, MM's service breaks down to the following: You have to pay a flat fee for a truck, which as of the date of this review is $50. Then, it's recommended that you are assigned two men to move your things, at $70 an hour for both put together. If you have a very heavy move and require more personnel or trucks, of course it can be arranged at additional cost. Then, it's explained to you that the movers charge $1.50 per mile for driving the truck to your new address (example, if you move twenty miles away, the driving charges would be $30). The phone representatives are very helpful in explaining that prior to your move, you should carefully pack as many things in boxes as possible, both so that the movers can get your things packed away and transported quickly, and also to reduce the ultimate price you pay for labor time. However, it's also explained to you that you can, if you so choose, do ABSOLUTELY NO PLANNING for your move, and simply have the movers box, tape, and transport everything for you -- even your unmentionables (HOT) -- though this of course means the labor charges will be through the roof. The men themselves are courteous and friendly -- and yeah -- immensely strong. The first time I hired Melrose Moving, the service sent two gigantic Russian dudes, and the second time, two huge Mongolian dudes. They work fast, and are really careful with your things. They will also arrange your furniture in your new house according to your instructions -- unlike a lot of movers who just dump off your stuff, break your vases, scratch your cabinets, and then ask, "Where's my tip?" If you're wondering what a typical bill from MM might look like, study the invoice photo I've included with this review. I had three bedrooms worth of crizzap to move, and the boys did it in only three hours. Note that though the movers' driving charges were lower than average because I only moved one mile away (Beverly Hills, to Beverly Hills - sh'yeauh!) from my old address, my bill was also increased because I elected to use my debit card (they swipe it as a credit transaction) in lieu of cash. Also, my own bill was higher because I included a tip. They deserved it! Also, there's something so satisfying about watching healthy Russian or Mongolian movers wiping their brows and eating sandwiches you bought them as they take a quick break from lifting your seems-like-solid-rock bookshelves and sofas. I can't really explain what that something is... -- Oh yes I can! It's satisfaction in knowing my move is finished, and my hot self didn't lift a hand, except to wave goodbye, and sigh, "Thank you, Melrose Moving," for helping me confine my perspiration to the gym and my sex life. The absolute worst movers I have ever dealt with. They called 20 minutes after they were supposed to be at our apartment to say they wouldn't be coming... are you kidding me? Nope, we told them: "No way!" They need to get over here, we don't have the time to reschedule, plus the upcoming week calls for downpours. They finally show up 5 hours after they are supposed to arrive, spend more time arguing between each other about how to load the truck, and are really only interested in wrapping all our furniture in saran wrap that they charge $100 a role for. On top of that, these guys moved at a snails pace. It took them 4.25 hours to load up, drive 1.4 miles to our new apartment, and unload our 1 bedroom apartment... and that was with my gf and I working frantically to help them!!! Hell, we at least did half the work between us! The best example has to be when they were moving our mattress: In the time it took them to carry it out to the truck, my gf and I took out both box springs, the headboard and the base to our dining room table. I've worked with a lot of movers; these guys were BY FAR THE WORST! AVOID THESE LOSERS AT ALL COSTS! We complained and were made to feel like they gave us some sort of deal at $450 for a ONE BEDROOM apartment move, and who knows what it would have been if my girlfriend and I hadn't pitched in wrapping and carrying furniture out to the truck ourselves, we would have easily racked up a $600-700 bill. We were quoted $300. I'm so pissed steam is literally coming out of my ears. read more

I've been meaning to write about these guys, but finally just got a breather from the move. Fantastic communication with the manager who helped us find the right amount of movers and worked with our budget. I wasn't even entirely packed the day they came but they graciously helped me pack some boxes :-) We had our own shrink wrap which became useful when wrapping the tv and other valuables. They offer you wardrobe boxes as well if you have any clothes you didn't want to take off a hanger and get crunched up in a box. I couldn't believe our whole 2 bedroom apt. fit into their truck and it ended up being one trip. All the boxes ended up the correlating rooms based on our labels and when everything was said and done I was stoked at the results. The price was cheaper then we expected and we gave the guys a great tip for how happy we were with them. Great peeps! read more

4.5 stars I was completely packed and ready to go when the movers arrived...almost a half hour late. Fortunately, they made up for the error by providing excellent service. The movers--Dmitri and George--were great. Frankly, they were much better than I expected to get by paying for $75/hr for two dudes. And a truck. And insurance. They were professional, polite, careful, and easygoing. I was happy to provide a $30 tip for a four-hour move (along with plenty of Gatorade and water). In fact, everyone I interacted with at the company (especially Nancy) was fantastic. My only reason for knocking off half a star is that they dramatically overcharge for materials. They are happy to use yours if you provide them, so I suggest going to U-Haul and buying a couple of 1000-ft rolls of 20" stretch wrap ($22 at U-Haul, $100 from MM) and a few rolls of packing tape ($5 apiece from MM). You read that right. $22 at U-Haul. $100 at MM. As they wrapped my couch and love seat, I could hear the costs adding up. I pointed the massive price discrepancy out to them and they halved the cost of the stretch wrap. It was almost enough to push them back up to five stars, but add in the half hour tardiness and the stress that the overcharging caused in the first place and the rating stands. If you've got your stuff boxed up and your supplies ready, this is a five-star company. I'm happy to recommend them to anyone. The $75/hr for two pros is a little too good to be true, and they try to recover costs by marking up their packing materials. All you have to do is avoid that and you've got an excellent company taking great care of your possessions. read more
