The good: The chicken and ground beef kabob were outstanding. Both were exceptional. Get the grilled tomato and onion. Excellent. The lamb dishes with carrots and raisins was delicious. Be careful, there are bones. Cucumber salad was great. I liked having the extra veggies and the mint is so tasty. The owner was our server. He was very kind since this was our first visit. Excellent food with excellent service ! What a GREAT find in Concord! Authentic, flavorful, and healthy Afghan cuisine coupled with friendly and efficient service makes us already planning to return soon! Between the 2 of us, we ordered the Qabeli Palow, Beef rice plate, and shared the spinach veggie dish... everything is oh - so - good! Both dishes were flavored perfectly, meats were moist and tender. My favorite part of the dishes is this -- all dishes tasted fresh, they were not greasy, and not too salty or spicy. Only really good restaurants do / can do this... so that their food is not hiding behind the grease or the salt "for flavors". Really happy experience and we will definitely be back soon!

My mom and I came here today for lunch and it was a nice surprise. We ordered 2 sambosas, a chicken kabob, daal, and an order of bread. All the food was delicious and prepared quickly ( within 15 minutes). The only reason I'm giving 4 stars was that the inside was not super welcoming.

Sorry everyone, I guess we got a little too hungry and got to the pictures late. Anyways, in the mood for Afghani. For those who aren't familiar with the area, The Bay has a large Afghani population which means good Afghani food. They didn't have bolani which is my favorite but they had pulao and chapli. Pulao is like biryani. The rice was spiced well, fluffy, and so good. The lamb was really soft and tender. The chapli was just ok. I like it a little crispier but it was spiced well. The other thing we ordered were the mantu, something I haven't tried but they reminded me of Nepalese momos so I got them. The skins of the mantu were just right. The beef was cooked well but I didn't love the creamy sauce. Decent meal but I really wish they had bolani. For centuries, Afghanistan served as an important hub for international trade. As a result, you will find cross-cultural influences in Afghan cuisine. From Mongolia to India to the Middle East, exotic regional spices and herbs are used in its culinary offerings. The resulting flavors are complex and are the main reason why it is one of my favorite cuisines of the world. Afghan Cuisine opened a few months back in a small plaza near the Concord Police Department headquarters. On 01/05/2020, I met my buddy David here for lunch. David had already gotten a table when I walked in at 1 pm. The interior was small but cozy. Cleanliness was impeccable. The room decorations were a reflection of the Afghan culture. Seating was made up of 7-8 small tables. We decided to order a few things to share. Below is what we got: - Mantu ($5.99) - Murgh and Shami Combination ($18) - Qabeli Palow ($14.99) - Sambosa (free with Yelp check-in) Mantu was a plate of three ground beef dumplings covered with a sauce made with tomatoes, chickpeas, mint, and yogurt. Size wise, they were like wontons but not as plump. The texture of the dumpling skin reminded me of typical wonton wrapper. The filling tasted ordinary but the sauce was exquisite. It had great depth and brightness. The mintiness really stood out. Sambosa was a fried pastry stuffed with mashed potatoes and peas, served with a green yogurt sauce. The filling was slightly spicy and delicious. The pastry shell was a bit hard to cut through though. The Murgh (boneless chicken) and Shami (ground beef skewer) Combination was served with seasoned rice. The meats were very juicy and flavorful. The spice blend used to marinate them provided a depth of complexity to their flavors. The Qabeli Palow was a rice pilaf mixed with raisins, carrots, and lamb and is regarded as the national dish of Afghanistan. Afghan Cuisine's version was solid. The rice had a perfect sweet and savory balance. The lamb ribs (wish they had used shank instead) were tender and flavorful. They had just a hint of gaminess to remind us what we were eating, but not overwhelming. Afif, the owner, provided us with fantastic service. He was very friendly and we were well taken care of throughout the meal. With T/T, the meal was about $50. We were very glad to have tried this place out. The food was authentic and delicious and the service was excellent. Hopefully, they will be around for a long time. Give them a try if you're in the area! 4 solid stars. BONUS MATERIAL: - Small parking lot on site. - Major credit cards accepted. Pay at the counter after the meal. - Free sambosa with Yelp check-in. - Catering service available.

The chapli kabob was really tasty and tender and the shami kabob was juicy and flavorful. Ask for the chai, it's delicious

I'm sure you've driven past Afghan Cuisine many times, saw their "voter best Afghan cuisine in Concord" sign and wondered about it....well, stop wondering and hurry on in! It wasn't our first time eating Afghan food but unfortunately we aren't well versed with it either so we asked Ali for some recommendations. With his recommendations and our drooling over the menu we decided on Sambosa, Shami lunch portion, Qormay Gosht, Broani Banjan, and Naan. It took longer than expected for our food but the wait was worth it! Everything was fresh, well balanced, delicious and had amazing texture! My absolute favorite was the oomay gosht (lamb)! The lamb was so tender and juicy. I literally picked up the bones and sucked on them in the restaurant!!! The broani bamjan (eggplant) was my second favorite! Loved that the eggplant wasn't soggy or drowning in yogurt. We will definitely be back soon!

I haven't written a review in a long time, but really felt compelled to pick up the proverbial pen again after my really amazing meal at Afghan Cuisine in Concord. I got the mantu kadu and falooda drink at the recommendation of the main employee there. He was so courteous and kept apologizing for the wait of the mantu kadu. Reader, it was worth the wait. The mantu kadu are steamed butternut squash dumplings that have onions, corn, yogurt, and other spices. The server recommended that you get the naan to go with the mantu, but I didn't heed his suggestion. He gave me a side order of the naan anyway (so grateful for his generosity!). The naan come in little small squares of crispy and chewy carby goodness, which was perfect to sop up the sauce that covered the mantu. The falooda drink was also really wonderful -- a subtle rose flavored drink that wasn't as sweet as the rose milk teas I'm used to. It paired really well with my meal. This place deserves 5/5 stars, easily. Next time I'm in Concord I will definitely be ordering from here again.

Not only the food is the best in all Bay Area , the people which work there are the best , very respectful, nice and best attitude , they are not providing only food , they provide food with kindness and love . I really recommend this restaurant for all,

Decided to try this place on my way home from work around 9:30. The food was phenomenal I ordered a couple veggie dishes cuz I've been trying to lose a little weight and boy was I surprised. Overall a very good Afghan restaurant. I ordered the Chapli kabob with sambosa. The chapli came with a very large portion of rice and thick meat patties with spicy sauce, salad and bread on the side. The sambosa was very tasty as well. The servers were very nice and the inside of the restaurant has a very nice ambience to it. It's cheaper than your average afghani restaurant but well worth it in terms of quality and taste! Highly recommend!! read more

First time I went and the food was great. The waiter told me that everything is prepared fresh, they don't have freezers on the premises and the food certainly tasted that way. The lamb was so tender it dropped off the bone. Friendly staff too. read more

My wife and I loved the kababs with rice, as well as the baklava and the chipera as finishers. Spicing was sensitive and delicious. This was our first try at this restaurant, and we will most certainly be back. Perhaps as important as the food itself was the welcome we felt from the owner and his family and staff, and the homey atmosphere. The clientele was mostly Afghani. We were not Afghani but did not feel in the least like strangers. I love that in a neighborhood restaurant! read more

I called in our order and it was ready in 20 minutes. We ordered the chicken and chapli kebab combos and a sambosa. Delicious! The grilled meat had great seasoning. The combo gives a good serving of meat and a lot of rice. We will definitely be back! read more

Loveeeeeeeeeeeee the food, love the service, love the time it took. Did take some time to make the food but in the end it tasted like it was fresh and the time taken was definitely worth it. The food was absolutely delicious. I had never tried Afghan food before, and I'm vegetarian, the employee was kind enough to talk us through almost the whole menu giving me options and alternatives of what I could do. Hubby and I ordered Sabzi, Borani Banjan, aush, chapli kabob, loubya and rice. It was absolutely amazing! We have been searching for a new Afghan restaurant since our favorite one sold to a new owner in Dublin. To our surprise, we found an even better replacement that's close to home. The flavors were just like his mom's cooking. Tastes so much like the Kabul style we love the most. Perfect ratio of price to quality to portion, there really is nothing to complain about. The spices were perfect, textures of the borani banjan was spectacularly tender, the loubya was done perfectly and the aush was the best we had, second to mom's of course. The number one way of telling if afghan food is going to be great is the rice and it was fantastic! Done right, perfectly seasoned, separated nicely and complimented all of the other dishes. Even the bread was the right kind of bread. I hope this restaurant keeps this quality, we DON'T want to go anywhere else. Hubby also said they were quite hospitable when he arrived to pick up the food and even spoke to him in his native language. It was a pleasant experience for him to hear the music that his family listened to in Afghanistan and the hospitality that he grew up with. Please don't change a thing! read more

Just had a family feast. Awesome! Friendly service over the phone. Greeter recommended Chapli Kabob, Chicken Kabob, Shami (beef) Kabob with saffron rice for a family of 5. I added the Lamb (Qormay Gosht) and some sweets, had to try that. Five thumbs up. Too full to eat the baklava right now. Wish I knew the name of all the tasty sauces that came with it. Don't care though, I broke out the naan and sopped it all up. When I go back, I'll ask them what sauce goes with what. Highly recommended. read more

I tried the Ramadan special and it was a great meal for the family. The thing that most stood out was the quality of the meat. Nicely cooked and tender, and generous amounts of it (lamb and chicken). I'm used to restaurants overdoing the rice and skimping on the meat. read more

We ordered takeout from here and it was phenomenal. We ordered samosas, chapli kebab, beef mantu, mantu kadu, and baklava. When we got home we realized something was missing from the order. I had a bit of a dumb moment and couldn't tell what was missing, couldn't really remember the names of the things we ordered, only that there was something missing. I called the restaurant to ask if we maybe forgot to pick up a bag. It turns out they forgot to include the samosas so they offered to give us one extra. We drove back to the restaurant and then noticed that they hadn't even charged us for the samosas we ordered. However they still gave 3 without charging which was extremely generous. All that time I didn't realize they were closing (8pm) in the middle of this but never made us feel rushed or like we were inconveniencing them. The food was incredible, and so was the overall experience, so we are looking forward to making this place a regular in our takeout rotation! Thank you!!! read more

This is below average Afghan place and its more expensive then other Afghan restaurants in the area. At first I was reluctant to order because of the high prices but reading such wonderful reviews I went for it. Here are my observations. First the food in general was bland and seemed like burnt. It didn't taste Afghan either. The Chapli Kebab were dry and they didn't use the right spices for it. They didn't have any taste. Then the Shami Kebab which seemed like burnt and dry as well. They tasted more like boiled meat. The Qabli palao has too much oil in it and again, fried carrots in were burnt as well. Then the chicken curry which honestly looked more like Tomatoes and chicken thrown together in a cooker. Lastly the Daal. Seriously how can one go wrong with Daal. But they did ... in the end, we all looked at each other wondering what did we just eat. This place need a new chef..and please don't send burnt food... read more

We had not been here before, so we tried lots of things on the Covid-19 take out menu. We got the Sambosa, chicken kabobs, Qabeli Palow, Mantu Kadu, Naan, and hummus. Yes, we'll have leftovers! Every dish was excellent! The food was very flavorfully without being super spicy. We will be regular customers. The service was friendly both on the phone and during pickup. And a bonus for us is that it is very close to our house. read more

Just dined in with my family for a late lunch. All of the food we ordered was good, prices were fair for the portion sizes, and service was nice as well. The owner even came by and checked on us to see how our experience was going. When going to family owned restaurants, that is the type of connection I look for. The menu is authentic Afghan and has regular dishes as well. The service is top notch and the people are extremely friendly. My favorite meal is the lamb that comes right off the bone mixed with their afghan rice which contains carrots and raisins, so good! It is by far my favorite Halal restaurant in the Bay Area hands down. You have to try it if you love great food! read more

This is a very comfortable place to dine and the employees here are pleasant to talk to. I was excited to learn that they will soon be serving the Afghan ice cream. I spotted this place as I was driving by and I knew that it was a new place that opened up. So I went in and only had a dessert as I had already eaten at another location. The "candy" was delicious as was the tea. I will definitely be returning to eat meals here. read more

Save your Money and I will recommend to somewhere else's. It was my first time to order for pick up from this place. The place looks was nice and clean but when I see the kitchen and whose made my food. I was very disappointed and regret to order from this place. Believe me guys when I eat half of my portions food and I pay attention I see small peace of hair in my bowl of rice. I am so sorry for them . They have to change and follow the rule of Inspection of health b/c first health is more important for us. My relatives from Austin were visiting and we were on our way back from Vallejo where my son was admitted for acute, live in physical therapy. We were hungry after a long day and were hoping to order a family style meal to serve the 9 of us. Boy did we hit the jackpot! The food is incredible: authentic, fresh, Afghan food. I love me some Afghan food and when we find this gem it did not disappoint. In fact we catered it twice; once for a Christmas meal and the other during a family reunion. The food was fantastic, the service was incredible and Mohammed was so generous with the serving sizes. We had plenty of food and it was great to be able to introduce Afgani Cousine to family and friends who had never eaten there before. Cannot beat the quality. If you love Afghan food and live within 2 hours of here -- must pick up good. The owners and chefs are all Afghan and take tremendous pride in the food. They're generous and kind people to boot who love speaking with customers. Order extra and enjoy the leftovers -- nothing on the menu is less than 5 stars. The Chapli Kabob is spicy which I love. I ordered a combo meat platter with qabli palow, nareenj palow and it came with white rice. Every item was presented beautifully and everyone was impressed and raved about the food.
