The Agave in Rehoboth- Last 2 times I got dinner here it was terrible experience. Poor quality food. 1. Takeout - chicken quesadilla that has the peppers and onions. Except when I got home it was basically a kids size quesadilla with no vegetables. 2. We just ate here again and barely anyone was there. We ordered nachos for an appetizer. We received them and they were SOGGY. Absolutely terrible. Like were they leftover? That's how leftover nachos get the next day. We wanted to send them back but our waitress didn't come back to our table for 45 minutes! Even though no one was there. I also ordered a mojito strawberry mocktail that came in a small short glass and just tasted like strawberry syrup. read more

I'll give credit where it's due : the drinks were good, the fresh guacamole was solid, and the mango salad was actually really good. The street tacos were decent too. Service was great! But this "rice and beans" situation? Absolutely not. That rice was not rice from any Spanish origin I've ever seen. They really tried to pass this off like it was authentic, and it completely missed the mark. Probably rice from a bag. The appetizers and drinks saved the experience, because the main side dish was a hard pass for me. Gross. Do better or become a tourist trap. read more

Rude & rushed runner practically threw the appetizer plates accompanying the guacamole order on the table. Rather than ask my mother the raise her menu so he could safely place the plate in front of her, he shoved the plate under her menu and left it half dangling off the table. The plate crashed to the floor and smashed at her feet and could have cut her. The runner rushed off seemingly oblivious or unconcerned about what happened. I called the manager over to tell him what had happened. He gave a superficial apology but never came back with any sort of explanation or gesture in response to such a jarring situation. It was an absolutely appalling experience from an inexperienced and/or arrogant employee who frankly should not be in a customer facing position. read more

I am a weekly customer, at the bar and today, 6/1/2026, was the most disappointing experience I've had at Agave Restaurant on Coastal Highway. After receiving my initial drink, I sat with the menu in hand, ready to order food. The place wasn't busy at all--several staff members were standing around with nothing to do--yet I was completely ignored. They passed by me several times. No one checked in. No one asked if I wanted to order some food. No one even made eye contact. I waited far longer than anyone should in an empty establishment, and eventually I just gave up. It's frustrating to be a loyal customer and still be treated like an inconvenience. If this is how regulars are treated, I can't imagine how new customers feel. I can't believe I haven't written a review on Agave until now, but this is my family's go-to restaurant in town! We live in Rehoboth part time and are here just about every holiday, and we bring all our visitors here. It's a bit of an upscale take on your typical Mexican restaurant, and it's fun to sit at the bar for happy hour and enjoy their fresh drinks. The drinks are fantastic especially if you're a marg lover, and we always have a good meal. I can't forget about the desserts, either. The chocolate cake, coconut cake, and tres leches are all to die for!! Besides the occasional long wait time for drinks and the fact that it's on the pricier side, you're guaranteed a great meal here. My personal favorites are the chili ancho margarita and the surf and turf burrito (tried and true, highly recommend). read more

I have to give 5 stars to this place. Was a little hesitant since the reviews were not great, but we tried it anyway. We didn't want to wait for a table so sat at the bar. The bartender quickly wiped down our area with disinfectant and not just a wet rag which is very important to me. He also greeted us pleasantly. He made some fabulous margaritas and we shared the fajitas. So the fajitas didn't come out sizzling, but were cooked perfectly and full of flavor. I like when a restaurant takes pride in cleanliness and the bathrooms were also clean. Will return. read more

First, I have always made it a point to never give a negative review. I am making my first ever exception. We have Agave gift cards which, at this point, is the only reason we continue to return since we have had at least four recent poor meals at the Rehoboth location. The food quality has been sloppy, food barely warm, and the portion size chintzy. Don't take it out on your servers. The staff is excellent, kind and service, prompt and warm. The only dishes that have been worth ordering are the fajitas and the salads. Advise avoiding soups. Agave's hey day seems behind them unless they start to pay more attention to the plates coming out of the kitchen. Off season is a great time for course correction. To begin, the decor was lovely bit the quality of the food was just terrible. Even our teens, who will eat almost anything, commented on how bad the food was. What a disappointment. Agave used to be one of our favorite spots, but after our recent visit, we won't be returning. The entire experience was frustrating from start to finish. The service was inattentive and disorganized--we waited far too long for basic things like water and silverware, and our server seemed more interested in chatting with coworkers than helping guests. As for the food, the prices were absurd. Nearly $20 for a plain cheese quesadilla? That's not gourmet, that's gouging. Nothing we ordered felt worth the cost. There's no justification for those prices, especially when the quality has clearly gone downhill. Agave has gone from a pleasant local gem to an overpriced, poorly run disappointment. There are far better--and far more affordable--Mexican restaurants in the area. Save your money and go somewhere that actually values its customers. read more

I've had great experiences here and know people that visit every chance they get. The food has always been tasty and the people friendly. I recommend the fajitas and the nachos. The prices are a bit high, but remember you're in a beach town. Having indoor and outdoor seating, a large space, and a free parking lot give some benefits in a busy part of town! read more

On our first night in the area, we opt for a highly-rated Mexican restaurant nearby to our B&B following the long travel. We had our dog with us and were happy to find out they had outdoor seating. We ordered our drinks and an appetizer but it was getting late in the day and the sun was on the other side of the building, hence it was cold and uncomfortable outside. Upon speaking with our server and the manager about possible solutions, we came up with a solution that saved the night. They packed everything we ordered and added another round of drinks to our take-home bag. We got back to the B&B and enjoyed a lovely and very tasty meal. They even refreshed our appetizer-- chips with Queso and the chips were still warm. For our first dinner in Rehoboth, I had the SWEET ANCHO RIBS- Ribs smothered in a sweet & spicy Ancho chile BBQ sauce. Served with twice-baked sweet potato topped with orange crema and pine nuts. Was fabulous, loved the flavor of the BBQ sauce. Good that the order is a full rack as the ribs are light on meat. The flavor is certainly there. My wife had the SOFT SHELL STEAK TACO- Grilled filet, fresh garden vegetables, melted shredded Mexican cheese, topped with pico de gallo, and chipotle mayo. As a restauranteur this pains me to leave this review because I have NEVER done this, but then again I've never had such a horrible experience at any other restaurant in my life. We walked in (there were 6 of us). I had already looked them up after a long day at the beach and was going to make a reservation but we were already in the parking lot. We entered and the hostess said "yes" and looked at us. (Sorry to bother you at work...) We said party of 6 and she said the wait would be at least 50 minutes. I explained that there is a reservation available right now with no wait. She said "I doubt you can make a reservation". So, we made the reservation and then returned to the host stand and said "Reservation for 6." She rolled her eyes and walked away and waited awhile and then sat us at the table at the door. And when I say at the door, I mean literally at the door. I see a young lady walking by and I ask to speak to a manager. She said she was a manager. I explain to her that the hostess at the front was extremely rude to us from the moment we walked in. I said "Is it possible that we get seated at anther table not right at the front door?" Without even acknowledging our poor experience she said she would be right back. She came back and said that it would be at least another 30 minutes for a table for 6. I pointed to the table they just say that walked in after us that did not have a reservation. She just shrugged her shoulders. I said you did not even acknowledge the fact that your hostess was rude to us, you completely ignored me. She said "enjoy your meal" and walked away. Our server was PHENOMENAL. He said it was his first day serving and I believe his name was Payton. He was kind and was so apologetic for the horrible experience. I told him that he was the first person to smile at us since we got there. Now, on to the food. Everything was bland and unseasoned and I mean everything. From the rice to the steak to even the margarita smh. We spent a lot of money and we tipped the server well but we will never be back. The way they doted over other patrons of a different hue but then completely ignored us and were rude told me everything I needed to know. I have never in my 20+ years in the service industry have a "manager" not even acknowledge anything I was saying to them. The tables are too small and there's no place to sit anything down if there's more than two people. The food runner carried more food than he should have and we attempted to help move things on the table, but a hot sauce was knocked over in the process. The salsa is bland, watery, and expensive. The drinks were inconsistently made between hardly any booze to holy cow that's a lot of booze. I have many fond memories of the Lewes restaurant on vacations throughout the years. So I'm going to start by saying this place is really cool. Their agave margarita is really good, as long as they do not put too much freshly squeezed lime juice in it. It takes away from the whole experience of the drink. Everybody is so nice and friendly. The ambience is very relaxed in nature and gives you a place to just vibe. The food was incredible. I would definitely eat it again and it is something that I haven't been able to really find since moving from Texas. I can't say it's as good as Tex-Mex, but it is as close as it gets. The major downfall of this place is that it is ridiculously expensive. I have never paid that much money for a restaurant of this caliber. If it were a very fancy place that served an abundance of food, etc. for the prices that we paid I would totally understand. However, for 4 Margaritas ($13 each), 2 beers, chips with a small bowl of queso appetizer ($15), quesadilla ($17), the fish tacos ($30) and the surf and turf burrito ($30)! Plus however, much the side of guacamole and sour cream was.. This ended up being a $200 meal.. so again I just think that it is unreasonably priced, but glad we have the experience. We visited Agave on Coastal Highway Rehoboth on January 3rd. It was our second visit to an Agave location in five years. On our first visit to Agave was to their Lewes location five years ago. At that time, I was disappointed to learn that you could not order fajitas unless ordering for two. We were also told of their seating time limit of 90 minutes. I wanted to try the fajitas. I wound up ordering quesadillas. Five years later, I stopped in the Lewes location and asked about the fajitas for two only policy. I was told that was no longer the case. I didn't ask the price charged if ordering for one. I should have. $$$61. We decided to try the Agave location on Coastal Highway. There is a list of things I found off about the experience. - There were 3 in our party. There were 3 seats at the table. I asked for a 4th chair for our umbrella, purse, and two cane's. Every other table had four or more. We were seated near the door; coats stayed on. I asked - the guy came back and said none were available. There were - I asked again and was told it's up to the server. Really! I put the umbrella on the floor because it kept sliding when leaned on the table. - The server was rushed. From the minute we arrived to the moment he walked away after we paid; our server seemed more interested in clearing the bar seating section than looking after his guests. With a tab, including a tip of $129, I don't expect my car to get washed. I do expect to get the sense that our server wanted our business; I don't think he cared. - Chips and salsa are best before the meal. We would have enjoyed having more chips. Our server eventually offered them. More chips did come out with our entrees. I ate one for desert. - The food did not rise to the level of average. The fajitas were cold and served on a cold plate. The salsa, cheese, lettuce, and sour cream were served in a stainless jigger glass. Every order of fajitas I have ever had was better than Agave's. No sizzle at all. At $61, my expectations were not met. - We had water only. No cocktails, soda, or tea. The drink menu was never picked up. I usually order iced tea, my partner a cocktail . Perhaps service would have been better if we ordered from the drink menu. - The 20% tip did not reflect the service or quality. I was generally disappointed with Agave. read more

Had brunch and will never eat there again. Food was horrible. Pancakes were definitely cooked ahead of time and reheated. Potatoes were disgusting, and soured totally cooked the day before. My fellow diners were also disappointed with their food. Bland and cold.Absolutely nothing about this meal was good. Kitchen staff should be ashamed and fired. No excuse for what was being served. Host was MIA for about 10 minutes. I could have overlooked that but the restaurant was not that busy. The service was okay. The dining room was way too loud. This was way too expensive to be as bad as it was. Absolutely would not recommend this restaurant to anyone. I do not get the hype and excitement regarding Agave as we found our visit to be mediocre at best.  The decor is very beautiful but due to the high ceilings, the loud noise level made it difficult to carry on a conversation. The food was ok/good. The queso dip tasted like white velveeta, with no seasoning. The margaritas and sangrias were typical ones you'd get at a chain Tex-mex restaurant. Service was spotty but friendly. We sampled several of the entrees and they were good (pricey), but nothing memorable to the level of the hype for the restaurant.  With two amazing authentic Mexican restaurants in downtown RB I would recommend traveling to them instead of visiting Agave. read more

Food was okay, but way overpriced for the quality of food served. $50 for fajitas is outrageous. We opted for burrito and enchiladas. Rice and beans tasted like it was dropped out of a can. Chips and salsa that I get at most family Mexican restaurants was $8.50. My wife asked for sour cream and we were charged extra $3.75. The table area was not very clean either. Cushions on bench style seating were stained, the table was very sticky, and the floor was filthy. No ambience in the dining room--it was an open dining area with cafeteria vibe, it was way too loud. While very crowded, there was no redeeming qualities to indicate why. Hostess staff was marginally polite, but not welcoming at all. Our waiter was kind and efficient. All in all, I would not recommend to others and I would not return. read more

Went here for happy hour and then dinner. The bar was full, and there really was no other place to sit for happy hour anymore, despite many tables being open at 3:30 in the afternoon. We decided to get drinks at the bar and stand anyway, while we waited for our table to be available for dinner... turns out we didn't have to stand very long before they seated us. Still not pleasant to not be able to sit when there are empty tables. The margaritas were really good! The four of us shared the guacamole trio for appetizers, then we had the Ancho rubbed ribs, the chicken enchiladas, surf and turf burrito, and mole enchiladas, and shared a side of honey rum beans. We took home 2 pieces of cake for dessert. Portions were large! So are the prices. One additional margarita put our dinner bill for four at $188. Food was very good and Justin was attentive. We had mole enchiladas, garlic pepper shrimp, steak tacos and fish tacos at our table. Not able to do much in the way of switching the sides that came with some of the plates but I suppose that's a minor issue. Dessert was Banana Tres Leches, which was delicious, and coconut cake. Prices are a bit high but probably the norm for the location. Main gripe is that the noise level is very high (dinner on a Saturday) making casual conversation almost impossible. Let's start out with a disappointment I had he here. It may sound petty. I order chips and salsa. It was all but $8.00. The chips were not hot or even warm . For the price and atmosphere they had I expected it. The flavor of the salsa was very good but no free refills. And the salsa disappeared fast. Flavor of our meals was very good and even the appearance was inviting. The margaritas easily held their own . Service was good though out our entire visit. I would easily return here. I feel compelled to write this review after my first and only (thus far) visit which was phenomenal. I have to say that had it not been for my friend's insistence to look past the bad Yelp rating, the rating alone would have prevented my ever coming here. Based on other reviews, it appears the restaurant may have a CONSISTENCY issue in both the food and service, but I can hands down say that this is some of the best Tex-Mex food I have ever eaten. Agave is cursed with being overhyped. The first location in Lewes, DE is so popular that people regularly wait two hours for a table. With new location and the larger dining room, it was time for me and my family to find out what all the hype was about. It just so happened that we stayed at the hotel next door, so it was an easy walk to the restaurant. We got there about 15 minutes before its noon opening and there was already a line to get in. By the time they opened their doors, there was about 35 people eager to get in. The tortilla chips are really amazing. They're thinner than most restaurant chips and seasoned differently. I really loved them. I shouldn't gauge a restaurant on something like this, but I just did. The entrees were overpriced and not worth it. First, they could really use a kid's menu. We had two kids with us. $14.50 for a chicken & cheese quesadilla is outrageous and they barely ate it (we ordered two). They also don't come with any sides. The Garlic Pepper Shrimp at $30 was also underwhelming. Nice size shrimp on the skewers, but the flavor didn't blow me away. My wife got the fish tacos. She didn't think they were great at $23, but I was actually very covetous of them as they were served on a puffy taco shell, which I've been wanting to try for some time, but only know of their existence in San Antonio. Seasoned rice and beans were good, but I'm not paying all that money for rice & beans. All this to say that we probably made some poor choices with ordering. I'm sure there are menu items that are more of their specialty. However, it was an expensive mistake to order what we did. Perhaps I need to stick with the chips & salsa. read more
