Excellent Restaurant to eat Greek food. After walking Astoria park with my son, my friend, and my dog, we decided to try this place which is right in front of the park. Ditmars Blvd. has many great restaurants and bars, this one, lived up to be one of the best. After the Covid lock down, I love going to restaurants even more than before. The Octopus, it was the first time that I ate a really good Octopus, it tasted like soft delicious fish, not like rubber as I had it in previous places. This one make me to finally say, I like Octopus. I guess, the quality of good cooking makes a huge difference on different types of dishes. The fish and everything else was excellent in taste, it was an absolute great evening for us. I didn't like that the menu is a barcode and it has to be scanned on the cellphone to be read, please note that they do have a regular menu with the items listed if you ask for it. I had my son text me a picture of the menu, since there are so many things with technology and cell phones that I don't do. I really liked how nice the waitresses were, we had to actually ask them to give us the bill when we were ready to leave, unlike some restaurants that try to shooosh you out as soon as one finish eating. I understand many businesses are doing their best after Covid but the following issues existed prior to the pandemic. My friend had not been here since 2010 after a terrible incident and lack of customer service. He decided to give it another shot. 1) 4 of us and only 3 table settings and they never supplied a 4th till I said can we have one more fork. 2) no one ever checked to see if we needed water or more drinks ( so they lost money). I did ask for one more soda which never arrived. We did want one more round of beers but no one came back to the table. 3) my friend asked what do you have that's grilled and the waitress said, did you read the menu. 4) not once did they pick up our plates so we could barely fit everything on the table. My friend is a restaurant owner so is very aware of lack of service. There are so many good Greek restaurants in Astoria that there is no reason to tolerate such poor service. The location is by the park is its only saving grace. read more

I came to this restaurant for lunch while in Astoria. It has a very nice ambiance. We sat in the outer section. We were seated and quickly tended to. Throughout our meal the waiter was very attentive. We were just coming for a light lunch so we got a few things and shared. We started with the greek salad which was very fresh and did not disappoint. Then we got the stuffed calamari which was decent. The filling was tasty and the calamari was cooked well, my only complaint was that it was a bit cold when we got it. I also got the cheese boureks which were yummy! We got the grilled shrimp as well and that was nice, they were seasoned well and cooked nicely. They gave up some complimentary deserts at the end of our meal and I especially liked the chocolatey one. It's quite a nice little spot! read more

We came here for the first time on Mothers Day. We have been eating in a neighboring Greek restaurant that we live but decided to try a new place. It was a success. It was packed but somehow we were able to get a table right away. We ordered our drinks, the house Rose, was delicious. We had two small salads for entree with shrimp Kataif. Veggies were fresh, the cheese in both salad was delicious and added Greta flavor to the salad. The shrimp Kataif was from another world. It was super delicious, We never had it before. We will have it again. At the advice of our server we ordered two fish for three ppl because one of them was very big and she was right. But the fish came out sizzling and perfectly seasoned, tender and moist. I never sucked in fish bones before but we couldn't leave any piece behind it was soooo good! Fish came with option of potato or rice or veggies, we had lemon potatoes (how can you not?!) and cooked veggies (spinach) it was excellent. Since they don't have dessert menu, they give everybody a desert on the house. I don't know what it was (see pic) but it was just slightly sweet, not overwhelmingly like many American desserts. So, I was on a walk by Astoria Park and was longing for a restroom which was non existent. I grew desperate and bit my pride and said I'll go ask Agnanti. I really had to go. Upon arrival, I stress to the server- I will order whatever it is so that I may please use their restroom. ( I didn't think it was going to be a big deal as it was dead, 0 tables) She tells me no, it's for customers only. I said, so I can't use your restroom as it's urgent then order to go? Where the young gentlemen states " she said she will order, let her use the restroom. " Which a lot of respect to that guy. He understood the business incentive and the human urge to having to use the bathroom. I am a woman of my word. I will go back only to give him a hefty tip, he's a sweetheart. As I'm walking to the bathroom, this older woman; presumably the owner - was BASHING me in Greek. Unbeknownst, I am full Greek. I actually didn't say I was Greek because it's self righteous to address that I'm Greek and hey " I'm your family let me use your bathroom." Because it's a business, I'll respect it. You know? No hand outs. I'm not trying to use your bathroom and take advantage of your operation. For crying out loud, I grew up in the food business. So I used the bathroom anyway- and this woman was still venting, commenting on my appearance with how I doll up to go to the park. How everyone will witness me not get anything as I said I was going to. I mean she was going off and I felt so uncomfortable. I don't work hard for my character to be bashed and doubted when I said I will do something. So I told her just for that, I will do what you believed I would do to begin with. I will not support a person who speaks that way, so freely and rude. Little to her knowledge on our way in, prior to all of this- my friend said would you like to sit down to have dinner & a glass of wine? To which I replied- since we came to the park let's watch the sunset and come back! I was going to come back! So imagine I was gonna buy something to prove my gratitude and COME BACK for actual dinner. That's two checks! LOL. You can't make this up. She was so nasty, miserable, mocked me by saying " you're so smart" since I confronted her ill mannerisms/ behavior towards me. I didn't choose to not speak Greek to be sneaky, lady. I choose not to speak Greek so I didn't try charming my way just for a bathroom use. That's the irony! I was a good person walking in, I am a great person walking out. I will never recommend this place until it's operated by polite humans, not anything short of decent. I hate leaving bad reviews. But, if you look at these reviews- I'm not the only person who experienced such a negative interaction. Learn how to treat people. Watch your words. You never know who's listening, who's watching and who's family practically pays your RENT. Nasty, nasty woman. Hope it's a lesson learned. read more

Delicious food, always fresh. There's a covered glass patio which is nice to sit in, right next to Astoria park. It took me 30 minutes waiting but it was worth the wait. The staff are friendly. The food taste really good. This is real Greek food in the heart of Astoria. If you are looking for authentic Greek food, this a fantastic place to check out in Astoria. The service was terrific- waiter very friendly and made good recommendations for both food and wine. I had an excellent Greek salad and its huge/ fantastic. The chicken Souvlaki me and my friend enjoyed. The Octopus and Branzino was Wonderful. Cozy atmosphere as well. Great rustic Greek food. Home-style cooking like grandma's cooking. Flavorsome and varied with lots of choice for seafood, meat and vegetarian dishes. If you want unpretentious authentic Greek food, come dine at Agnanti. Solid Greek restaurant with a beautiful view of Astoria Park. Highly recommend sitting outdoors during the warmer months. The food is amazing, the atmosphere is great. I came here on a Friday night with my parents. Let me start off the review by saying that I'm Greek and I know what Greek food is supposed to taste like. All I can say is, what happened to the flavor ? Complementary bread was given with olive oil when we sat down, but it was literally just 3 slices of multigrain bread. The kind that you can buy from the supermarket. They weren't even toasted or warmed up- looked like it came straight out of the package. Tzatziki is usually supposed to have a creamy texture to it, but the one we ordered was not creamy at all. The kotokeftedes appetizer was alright, but when it came to the main course dishes, they were very underwhelming. My mom ordered a lamb stew, which was served to us cold. The potatoes in the lamb stew usually have a lemon kick to it, but there didn't seem to be any lemon. I ordered myself a soutzoukakia (Greek meatballs) which were flavorless. I'm not sure if they changed chefs or what, but the quality of the food is definitely not the same as what it used to be during pre-Covid. Very overpriced for mediocre food. There are definitely better places to get Greek food from in Astoria. Would not recommend. read more

Lost a regular customer as of 5/29/21 As someone who has grown up in the restaurant and hospitality business and who is 5.5 pregnant, I WILL NEVER RETURN TO AGNANTI AFTER MY EXPERIENCE WITH THEM LAST NIGHT. I am 5.5 months pregnant and showing. I live 1 block away and since lockdown, I've ordered takeout or delivery from Agnanti on average, once a week as part of my efforts to support local restaurants. Last night, I was feeling very nauseous (as I have for most of my pregnancy). I called Agnanti to see if I could do takeout for warm bread and olive oil on the side since that's about all I felt I could stomach. I spoke with a woman there who told me that they usually don't do that (they don't have it on the menu and usually don't charge for it when sitting down at a table). I replied to her that I would pay whatever they wanted to charge me, explained to her that I was pregnant and nauseous, and she replied I could pick up the bread. When I arrived at Agnanti to pick up the bread around 8:19pm (so almost a closed kitchen), a different woman on staff greeted me and proceeded to explain that they wouldn't be able to sell me a side of bread because it was Saturday night and they only use the bread for table service. With tears welling up in my eyes, I explained to her that I was pregnant and nauseous and would pay whatever they wanted to charge me for the bread, and that I just really needed some warm bread. The woman replied that they couldn't do that because of the previous rationale. I said "so if I sat down at a table right now, would you let me pay for the bread?" She said no because I would need to order food with the bread. At that point, I was like "forget it" and walked out. I walked over to Gregory's Taverna, and with kindness and compassion, the woman on staff there gave me even EXTRA bread and a side of olive dip and for only $2. AGNANTI- YOU JUST LOST A GREAT CUSTOMER AFTER THE APPALLING LACK OF COMPASSION I EXPERIENCED LAST NIGHT WHEN I TRIED TO BUY BREAD FROM YOU THAT YOU USUALLY SERVE FOR FREE WITH YOUR TABLE SERVICE. moved to the area not too long ago, I thought it was just me but reading the reviews, my hunch during my experience was right.... couple weeks ago I walked in on a Thursday night, dressed down, an older lady and a taller lady were inside looking at me a bit awkward, didn't greet me. I kindly asked for a to go menu, I was sorta shooshed outside by the older lady, she snarled its outside, unsuspecting I said okay and went outside looking for a menu... then another worker said scan that.... Instead of scanning and placing an order, I got annoyed, walked away and told my wife about the incident... it's sad and ugly to read the negative reviews... I'm sure the food is probably legit... I was reading reviews and planning to go there tonight with my family for a sit down dinner, but now plan to go elsewhere.... all good, it is what it is.... read more

Like a lot of the reviewers here, I'm disappointed with Agnanti. The problem is the manager. It's true she's rude and has little regard for her customers, unless  they're [seemingly] her friends. I had been going there for years and enjoyed the food, the decor and the location, across the street from the Astoria Park. Nice ambiance which is why I'm giving it two stars. Well now with COVID things have changed and the last time that I went to Agnanti,  they had [as per the laws of the city]  placed seats outside including some seats that were off the curb right on the street. The restaurant is on a corner, so cars that turn the corner are almost on top of you blowing fumes on you as they turn, blowing their horns and the frequent motorcycles in the area with their loud engines are annoying and distracting as hell. Hardly a recommended eating situation.  Here's the problem, even though there were plenty of tables available on the sidewalk and they were empty, she wouldn't give us one table for two and wanted us to seat on the street.  Her waiters were going to give us one of the tables on the sidewalk, but she got involved and said "NO," because she claimed they were reserved. If anyone has been to Agnanti and sees this lady in action, besides fighting with her staff and the customers, she spends half the time socializing with friends at their tables.  The day that I went there, she was on her smart phone texting.  From what I can see, she doesn't value her regular customers even if you are a frequent customer. Its seems that she treats her restaurant like a social gathering place for friends. read more

One of the most Authentic Greek restaurants I've ever experienced in NYC big competitor of Taverna Kyclades on the same blvd. I had the pleasure of having one of the most amazing outdoor dinners before summer is over. Agnanti has outdoor table seating, some are very small which was where we were seated, we had to rush eat our food because we ordered a lot and there wasn't enough space for other dishes. Presentation wise as you can tell they dishes have a nice presentation. wait staff was very professional and welcoming, loved the smiles. The Shrimp Kaitifi was one of my favorite dishes there, nice appetizer to share, the mustard sauce gave a terrific touch to the Shrimp which was wrapped in Kaitifi. The Bacalao croquettes Over the yummy spread were also a good choice. Fries whitings were very tasteful, fries perfectly and crunchy on the outside just how I like it. We also tried the Stuffed Calamari and the Agnanti Wraps for appetizers, must try absolutely both of them, the Grilled calamari had such an amazing mix seafood stuffing that left us wanting more. The Agnanti wraps were also a great call, when you hear wrap you'd think of an actual wrap but "no" this is fried phyllo stuffed with feta cheese and chopped bacon. *Party In My Mouth* the flavor combination between the feta and the bacon was just perfect. In the end they brought us dessert on the house which was very nice of them. They don't really have a dessert menu or it doesn't seem like they carry a variety of desserts so they just brought a plate with two walnut cookies and yogurt with cherry which was very light. Overall my experience here was great. Unfortunate we were a little disappointed about the table we were sitting at which seemed a little cafe style table and very small. After starting the summer in Greece, I needed to end the summer there too (somehow). On a Thursday afternoon during a 'sick day' from work I decided to come here for lunch. My typical meal for lunch (and almost every meal) was Grilled Octopus, Greek Salad and sometimes those amazing olive oil and lemon potatoes...oh and a bottle of wine. So I decided I needed to have that here to feed my nostalgia and depression. I sat outside and was taken care of by a very sweet server that definitely embodied the Greek hospitality that I missed so much. My date and I got a large Greek salad to start,tzatziki, and two octopus and a side of potatoes and a bottle of Santorini wine. Everything came out in a timely manner, the octopus was perfectly cooked and the salad and tzatziki was perfect...only complaint was the potatoes were a little over cooked and mushy but I still enjoyed them. My husband and I had the most delicious meal here yesterday and we cannot stop thinking about it. We both starred with their Trahanas soup which blew our minds so much that we took another order to go (big regret not getting more). I got the grilled shrimp with the artichoke side dish and my husband got the chicken with lemon potatoes. Everything was excellent and the staff was super friendly and accommodating. The vibes were also much cozier and downright romantic compared to some of the other Greek restaurants in the neighborhood. There's even a little fireplace inside. I loved this place so much. My friend ordered this for us as take out one day when we went over for a girls lunch. She ordered calamari, these cheese balls, spicy feta dip. Tzatziki, Greek hamburger with fries and of course the Greek sausage. My absolute favorite is the Greek sausage. I love the charming and the flavor was divine. They have 2 Greek sausages the one with the leeks is the one we get. (My friend who is Greek told me) Even though this was take out everything was fresh and hot when it arrived. I loved the food so much that when another friend and I were meeting for a late lunch one day I suggested this place. I wanted the same things that my other friend ordered so I had her send me the order that she made. She sent me a screen shot of the order. I showed it to the waitress and she laughed because it was all in Greek. She also asked "are you sure?" Because it was a lot of good for two of us. I told her yes, because I wanted my friend to try everything. We were definitely very full and satisfied at the end of the meal and I gave my friend the leftovers to take home. Menu seems to be different from what I remember pre-pandemic. The Lima beans and Melitzanasalata were good, but we were surprised they were served with two slices of plain, supermarket-style bread and no pita was available for any dips or spreads (b/c grill was totally occupied by fish). Fried baccalao tasted only of fried batter, and spanakopita seemed like it was reheated from another day. The small bites of dessert at the end of the meal were a sweet surprise, with the semolina ball tasting fresh. The sunset and bridge view are lovely, especially in spring, but the food really missed the mark. read more

I'm a bit unclear on where the owners here hail from, as there is a Turkish section on the menu, which I've never seen at a Greek establishment before. In any case, wherever the owners are from, they serve out a great diversity of delicious vegetarian-friendly small plates. A friend and I shared a plate of tzatziki, the roasted feta with peppers and tomato, the olive-filled phyllo rolls, zucchini/cheese kebabs and fassolia. The feta was by far the favorite - smoky peppers perfectly complemented by the cheese. Everything else was devoured quickly as well, perhaps with the exception of the olive rolls, which were a bit one-dimensional. The complimentary dessert rounded out the evening. I never knew that Greece has a fried semolina sweet called halva, which is quite literally the same as Punjabi sooji halva. Unsure why the average reviews aren't a little more positive this is one of my favorite Greek spots in Astoria after living there for 4 years. Also right on the edge of Astoria Park so makes for a nice walk after a meal if you have some nice weather. The service is lovely and it definitely has a homey appeal. Moussaka if available is probably my favorite dish, the mussels, the shrimp kataifi, and octopus are all fantastic. The agnanti special is pretty great too if you're looking for something a little 'safe' if scared of exploring the menu (but don't be scared to!). Don't pass this place up! read more

This Greek spot is severely off the beaten path, on the heels of Astoria Park and along a quiet section of the busy Ditmars Boulevard. This family establishment offers both outside and inside dining, with a bustling service, homey decor, and excellent food. The restaurant itself is small, not large enough to host huge parties unless they take over an entire section. I feel like I'm in a small home when I'm here while listening to very soft Greek music playing in the background, with plenty of simple decor hanging from the walls. Aside from the simple interior, the wait staff is rushing in and out of the main area grabbing random dishes while tending to guests as the place fills up quick. Its hard to get the attention of the multitasking waitresses occasionally, just ask and be somewhat aggressive especially when its busy. Food here like most of the Greek places in Astoria is great. The Kefte Mentite (meat / yogurt patties) is really just meatballs but they look great. My favorites so far have been the Pastroumali (beef+cheese wrapped in phyllo) which tastes like pizza bites and the Tyrokeftedes Sifnou (herb cheese croquets). While its not on the menu, they do serve traditional dishes like the Moussaka and Pasticcio, which are also very good. Pricewise, they're fairly consistent with the other Greek spots nearby, which can run one for $40 for two appetizers and two entrees. The complimentary dessert they offer is probably the most generous I've had at any of the Greek places, as they offer a mix of fruit, yogurt, and Halvah Politiko (spoon cake with butter, orange syrup). While they don't offer delivery since its so far out, its a great place to stop by for nice lunch or a dinner spot after a day in the park. They do accept credit card and is worth checking out for any foodie with a penchant for a little bit of Greece. read more

We have been extremely disappointed in the food at Agnanti on our last two visits. This was once our favorite Greek restaurant in NYC, but not anymore. The Rooster in tomato sauce with pasta used to be a spectacular dish - tonight it was inedible - tough, salty, and lacking the great flavor the dish used to have. The overpriced $17 Spinach pie appetizer was the worst we have ever had at a Greek restaurant in Queens. Even the bread was ordinary and blah, not the wonderful crusty, grilled bread they used to serve. What happened, Agnanti? For 20+ years we loved your food, now it's just a disappointment. read more
