I replaced my roof and needed $12,000 in wood replacement due to termites; it was time to fumigate. A friend in real estate has been using the same company for 30 years and told me they would "take care of me" -that quote was $2413. A neighbor had his house done several months ago and was happy with the work - that quote was $1950. Wanting to get a third quote I went to Yelp and found Aguirre Fumigation. Oscar made an appointment for 10:00 AM and showed up at 9:50; he presented himself much more professionally than the other two and quoted me $1860 but said they had a special going on for a $150 discount so it would be only $1710. Three months passed until I was ready; Oscar again showed up 10 minutes early and went through the entire procedure and we scheduled a Saturday tenting and a Monday removal. I asked when they would arrive so I could get the cats out and he said between 10 and 12. At 10:48 a truck showed up with a crew of very professional, very respectful workers who had already done two other houses. The crew chief walked through the house looking through the drawers and cabinets and pointed out items that I had neglected to double bag. I watched as the crew placed heavy carpet pieces over all the corner edges of my new roof so not to damage them; every seam was straight and tight. My back patio has a planter on two sides where I was unable to remove the plants; they wrapped over the patio cover then brought the tarps inside the patio and saved all my plants I have had for years. I was unable to move a 40 year old staghorn fern that has attached itself to the house but 3 of his crew were able to free it and place it in a safe place in my yard. I ask them to let me know when the tarps would be removed and left for the motel feeling I had made the right choice. My phone rang at 7:30 and the crew was there finishing up. I wanted to get my house tented while I was out of town. I talked with them to make sure that they would be able to do this. They assured me that they need access to the outside of my house. We scheduled the tenting for Tuesday. On the Saturday prior to the tenting I was told that they would need to have access to the inside of the house. Even though I was out of town, I was able to arrange for the house to be opened on Tuesday. On Monday, the DAY BEFORE the tenting, they sent the documents that needed to be signed. BEAWARE!! You MUST sign a wavier that relives them of ALL responsibility for damages to the roof. This means that they can do anything they want to your roof & you have no recourse against them. At the very least this should have been mentioned in the first conversation. UPDATE: Unbelievable!! I just got a call from this company cussing me out for leaving the review! I found I had significant termite damage to my home during an investigation of my pest control company that routinely services my home. The house needed to be tented. They quoted me the price. I checked Yelp and found Oscar. He called me back within ten minutes of the time I called him. He came out the next morning, scoped out the necessary work and gave me an estimate. I signed with him to perform the fumigation in two weeks. He uses Vikane, the same chemical the Big T uses. He ALWAYS called me when he said he would and arrived on time. He let me know what I needed to do and left me bags for my consumable items that needed to be double bagged in special bags. His crew arrived on time and have this down to a routine. They were all kind, courteous, fast, very professional and sensitive to my needs and questions. They were very respectful of my home and property and treated them as they were their own. I am back in my house at exactly the time Oscar said they would be done. They even went through the house and closed all the doors and drawers that had to be left open in the fumigation process. Oscar, the owner of this company for over 20 years, is such a friendly and punctual person. They did the fumigation while I was on vacation with my family. When I came back, everything was done. My family recently completed the fumigation process with Aguirre Fumigation and had a great experience. Here's what my mom Jami had to say: 1) Oscar Aguirre came out on time on the appt date and emailed us his quote which was about $300 cheaper than the other two companies we had looked at. We also liked their guarantee of 2 years, instead of the general guarantee of 1 year that most other companies have. 2) Oscar also gave us a discount and was willing to let us pay with our credit card (whereas some companies don't). 3) The wood repairman (also named Oscar) also came on time and fixed all the damaged areas of our home. He was friendly, helpful, and explained the process thoroughly for us. His crew left a few items (e.g. tools) in our planter (which had some new plants in it), but that was just a minor hiccup. Otherwise, the wood looks fantastic, and they painted it to look the same as the original color. 4) Fumigation happened on the date as scheduled. They even bagged our extra items we had left out (since we didn't have enough bags on our own). 5) I placed 2 plants in the house, one upstairs and one downstairs and told Oscar not to remove them before the fumigation because we wanted to test and see if the fumes would be strong enough to kill the plants (they both "successfully" died). 6) After the fumigation, the gas company didn't turn back on our gas as promised (we had to take cold showers for a couple of days), because the gas company claimed they hadn't received instructions from the fumigator on where our key was hidden - again, minor hiccup. I used Aguirre Fumigation services in 2016 for my house in Jamul. The service and the outcome was great. People who worked for him were all Hispanic, respectful, efficient, and caring. They broke only few tiles. The house had ant and silverfish problems and all were gone during the fumigation. I then used Aguirre services again in 2017 at another, bigger house also located in Jamul (4,600 sq ft). This one was a failure. The careful and good tenting by his personnel followed by pumping the poison gas (Vikane) and something went wrong during the process. Either Aguirre services did not pump the appropriate amount of gas to save $s, or there was air inside the tubes instead of Vikane. None of the pests were dead after the fumigation as we found them up and alive in plenty (silverfish and ants). Also, non of the brush or plants very close to the house that remained under the tent were dead. Few days after the fumigation, we were installing porcelain tiles in a room on the first floor, and when we removed base boards we found termites. When we explained what happened, Mr. Aguirre showed his true face and hid behind his paperwork. He claimed that 1. subterranean termites were not included in the contract, 2. His service was for termites but not for ants or silverfish. I was very disappointed with Mr. Aguirre and I found him dishonest. I did not place a complaint or sued him as I did not have time for my wasted $5K plus. If you are going to use his services in spite of my review, be aware. If things do not go right at the beginning, do not expect a correcting service or a refund. read more

This was our first time fumigating our house and though we had many questions, Oscar never failed to make sure we were well informed, not only about any questions we had, but also throughout the entire process. Oscar arrived on time and was very professional during the estimate. Fast forward to the day of the fumigation, Oscar's team arrived on time and gave us plenty of time to wrap up our last minute packing. Oscar also coordinated with the SoCal Gas Company to turn off the gas for us. If I'm not mistaken, YOU the homeowner, is responsible for turning off the gas, not the fumigator, this was just Oscar going the extra mile to provide his amazing service which I and (as you can see) many other Yelpers can vouch for. From unloading to leaving, Oscar's team took only about an hour and a half, very impressive considering they completely tented and sealed a two story house! On the (early) morning of return, we came back to our house and found that the entire house was already untented and was ready for re-entry! As promised, Oscar coordinated with the SoCal Gas Company again to turn back on our gas later that day. Aside from that, that's about it for the fumigation... One thing to mention was that Oscar's team was very careful around my grandma's plants, which was also a plus! As for pricing, it was very competitive and is without a doubt the best option considering Oscar's willingness to go the extra mile to make sure everything was taken care of, like coordinating with the SoCal Gas Company, and with the level of professionalism involved between Oscar and his team. On a side note, one of the main reasons why we also went with Aguirre Fumigation was because it was a family owned business that DID NOT subcontract their work to another company. Before finding Aguirre Fumigation on Yelp, we had another company come to estimate us. After doing so, I read the pre-work contact's fine lines and saw that they subcontracted their work to another company... After doing some more digging into the said subcontracted company, I found out that they had a rigorous and colorful history of fumigation thefts (I feel like it's too many to be "coincidental") which was absolutely traumatizing. I was able to rest easy after being reaffirmed by the man himself that Aguirre Fumigation is not subcontracted and was 100% responsible for the work. You get what you pay for people, so be careful of selecting one of those "cheaper" alternatives (it may cost you more than just money). We just had our home tented and chose Aguirre Fumigation because the owner Oscar was well spoken and had good reviews. Oscar gave me a quote slightly lower than his competitors. He said that Aguirre also owned the fumigation company and did all their own work. Therefore Oscar stated that he would have no trouble scheduling the work within a few days, while we were house sitting for family. He said they can do all the repairs after the fumigation and replace any of the wood that required it. He offered more free storage bags than the competition and said they they would wrap my satellite dish, rather than us having to remove it. He also said they work on Sundays and would definitely be here to remove the tent on Sunday after the fumigation, So that we would have water and power to feed our animals and access to our home and clothes for work on Monday. He mentioned all his good reviews and how careful his company is, including his own fumigation department. That they would keep all our doors locked and only open a window in every room during fumigation, to prevent burglary. The main garage door would only be open 6 inches. I later called him stating that we would like to have his Company do the work and he said that He would com out to sign the paper work the next morning. In the paperwork which he stated was just a formality I had to sign to hold Him and his company not liable for any damage and that I should expect to have a lot of damage. That really bothered me. I also told Oscar that we had drainage pipes that led from the gutter down into the ground which connected to other open ground drains. He said, no problem, just show it to the men who come to place the tent and they will cover them. In the next two days Express Fumigation came out and I made them aware of the open drains lest the fumes escape. They seemed to have a hard time understanding.They pulled the tarp tightly down over my satellite dish, cutting off the signal. In the end they left some drains open and we could smell fumes escaping. After placing the tent over my house, Express said that they would return on Monday as they do not work Sundays. They said that they were independent sub-contractors that were not owned by Aguirre Fumigation and that Oscar should not have given me a removal date without confirming it with them. They gave us a hard time and made us wait all day to hear whether or not they would remove the tent on Sunday or Monday. We voiced our concerns regarding the open drain pipes and they said that Oscar should have told them about this himself. They also went back into the house after I had left, and opened every window, including leaving the garage door wide open and the other two garage doors were left open enough for access by rolling under, after it had aired out a few hours. They told us to call Oscar afterward as He was out of town for the weekend. Well we found a dead lizard over the drainage pipe. Our satellite dish was not functional and cost us 100.00 for a service call which Oscar did refund. They did not break many roof tiles, so little damage. I then asked for a lien release from Express Fumigation that showed us that He had paid his subcontractors, they sent it and showed that they had only charged Him half the amount that he had charged us. Oscar Aguirre made 1000.00 for just coming out to measure the ground, because he had a license. He did no other work, neither inside nor out. No repairs or masking of the damaged areas. No estimate to even make repairs. Oscar basically made 1000.00 minus the $100.00 satellite refund, for being well spoken! He has told the same to others, as they have written in their reviews, that He was one large Company therefore cutting out the middle man. I hereby submit our review with both the good and the bad, for consideration.
