This was my first time checking out Ahan Lao since a friend mentioned that there was a new Lao/Thai spot in the Southbay. I'm always happy to hear when food options down here diversify & Ahan Lao hits the spot! As far as C-19 pickup goes, Ahan Lao was punctual. I arrived at the designated pickup time and the food was piping hot & stayed that way for my drive home. We ordered our go to Thai dishes (green curry, Tom Yum, Drunken Noodle) as the litmus test. I appreciate the accuracy in the spice (we asked for level 7) and it was spot on. The pork belly app was a nice surprise too. I can imagine the full glory of its crispiness if you eat it onsite, fresh. The pickled chilis and tamarind dipping sauces were a nice 1-2 punch. I'll definitely return as the price point for quantity is appropriate. I'm hoping Ahan Lao can survive C-19 so go and check them out. read more

Wow this place is amazing. The food was spectacular but what stood out the most is the service and how the place is handling covid. The server/cashier answered all of our questions. Picked up food yesterday for my boyfriend and me around 4-4:30 in the afternoon. We both got curry. I got him yellow curry with chicken and I got myself green curry with shrimp. I don't know what was in the food but it didn't sit right in either of our stomachs. He's still currently going to the bathroom. Now moving on to the service. The service yesterday was eh. I came there with my son and my friend and her little family. Everyone waited outside while me and her went inside. The first thing I noticed was how the lady had such an attitude when we came in. We were the only customers in there. Another thing was when she yelled at us to get our food when it was done. I only went to this place because it was close to my friends place. I love their food! The spicy eggplant is sooo tasty, yet simple. Both versions of Papaya salad are excellent, but I prefer the Thai version. This place has unsurpassable customer service - Exquisite food quality - reasonable price - This is already our third time here since we discovered it less than 2 months ago. We normally order the following items: - Drunken noodles with tofu - it is simply perfect! - Papaya Lao style salad - strong flavor with fish sauce and some exotic flavor, it might be one of those that you either love it or cant eat it. We enjoyed it - Lao sausage - rich and flavorful, the chili sauce that comes with it in the side is amazingly yummy. - Chicken green curry - great curry sauce, mild and semi-sweet. - Mok pla - steamed fish. This is Excellent, the different herbs' flavors just burst into your mouth. - Chicken wings - crisp and simple, easy to eat, the plus for us there is no crazy sauce on it, which works well with us. - Pad Ka Pao with fried egg - hot basil - this is super delicious and goes very well with the brown rice. Their brown rice has a great buttery taste. It is moist, and not too firm nor not too soft. We normally would have to get on the freeway to get some authentic good Laotian / Thai food, but so happy, we have this alternative now. We still like the other places we used to go before finding this place, but the location of this restaurant is so much more convenient when we don't feel like driving far. We are glad to have discovered this little gem in Chula Vista, what makes it better is it is a small business family-owned, which we totally enjoy supporting. Cash and credit cards accepted. My best friend and I ordered: Crab ragoon: creamy on the inside and crunchy on the outside! Perfect bite size appetizer Egg roll: delicious vegetarian option. We came upon Ahan Lao by luck and boy were we thankful we did. After a long flight we were searching for food and we were not disappointed. Every plate was so delicious and fresh. Appetizers we had were Lao sausage, fried pork belly, crab wonton and chicken wings. We had for entrees the tomyung soup, Thai boat noodles, pad Thai, pineapple fried rice, drunken noodles. Every plate was so perfectly cooked with just the right amount of heat. I wish I would have gotten a picture but the food was so good it was swallowed down before I could get a shot of it. When i walked in, i noticed a son and mother duo (assuming it's mother/son i could be completely wrong) working like a team in that kitchen, keeping up with their hectic af orders. We ordered a Yum Beef Salad, the Sausage, sticky rice, &fried banana rolls. We received great service despite how busy they both were (it was just them 2!) the food was exceptional and flavorful. The son even came out and gave us a dessert on the house with tapioca pearls, taro, and coconut milk (so good!). It was such a kind thing for him to do. My husband is a total Thai food snob since he grew up going to Thailand often for vacation - he is not easily happy with any Thai restaurant. We both DEVOURED our food. We have been searching for good Thai food since our favorite place closed down. I asked my friend Mali if she knew of a good Thai restaurant and she referred me here. I am so glad she did because the food here is so good and when you ask them to make it a extra spicy #10+ she made it just the way I wanted. I Googled this place just shortly after an appointment I had for a quick bite to eat. Understandably it is a small family business not many workers. I entered the restaurant was not greeted I had to yell hello!!? A young man came out barley made eye contact and was very soft spoken so I couldn't understand what he was saying .. I ordered the Lao sausage which was just alright. As well as the usually a get chicken panang curry which had a good taste, VERY SMALL PORTION OF CHICKEN. The place was small might I add 3 tables max. There was no option to sit and be served. They give you TOGO automatically. I won't be coming back. Customer service was left to be desired. read more
