Michelin quality food but without the price tag. [[HIGHLIGHT]]We sat at the bar while the Chef and one other cook made everything in front of us.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Was great experience and will definitely go again. This was from last year but forgot to write the review. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Great date night place.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Small well designed restaurant in the heart of Kapaa town.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] There's only one daily seating and reservations are required to dine. The chef's tasting menu was excellent and the dishes were delicious and well balanced. It is worth noting that the chef works alone, and thus patience is required between courses, however, the food is worth the wait. Overall very enjoyable experience.

Absolutely W-O-N-D-E-R-F-U-L ! [[HIGHLIGHT]]Service was impeccable and the ambience was just perfect.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] And we were blown away by the fresh and delicious creations that were made with such care and plated with beautiful artistry. Each dish was consistently delightful and each entree held a delectable surprise of flavor. So thankful for the dinner experience and grateful to the chef and his love and care for the island of Kauai and his sincere desire to use local and fresh food to create a Michelin star experience. We had a truly incredible evening! The chef is a tremendous talent.

Great dining experience! [[HIGHLIGHT]]Extremely intimate setting, two person show, impeccable service.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The food was great! Some of the best on Kauai for sure and we've been many times. I will try and find my way back when I return!! Make sure to try the sake pairing as well :)

What a find in Kauai. This is an artisan restaurant. If you're looking for a crazy California roll, you're in the wrong place. Their effort, balance, ingredients and techniques are classic presentations of "authentic" Japanese food. No The meal is set omakase style where the chef guides you through what's fresh and seasonal. The starter was a whimsical shaved ice with lemongrass foam. After that the starfruit salad was amazingly great and the fruit itself popped with an apple like crunch. Next was sashimi that was beautifully presented and extremely fresh. The courses kept coming and eat dish not more than a few bites. The greens on the next dish were balanced and rolled sushi style and plated with a macadamia sauce that was robust with flavor. The heart of plam was presented in a dish with broth and would be a great stand alone for vegetarians. Moving into meats, the sous vide opah was as expected. Unbelievably succulent and seared to finish before serving. The yakitori was equally high quality with an amazing dipping sauce they combines creamy, spicy, salty and sweet. Amongst the best the island can offer. Don't forget the dessert. We ended with a light cream filled matcha jelly roll they was topped with chocolate. Served with a palate cleansing sorbet, this meal was worthy of the investment. New standard has been set here for authentic Japanese food prepared by a true artisan.

The best food in Kauai, period. If you are a foodie this is the place for you. Innovative and bold food that is served by the chef/owner. The experience and quality are worth every penny. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Date night? come here![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

One of the best dining experiences I've ever had. The flavor combinations I experienced during this meal were indescribably good. The pacing was perfect, the pairings and sauces were perfect, everything was perfect. I was worried it wouldn't be enough food at first but every course is a reasonable size and I filled up way before the last one! Candace and Mitch were absolutely wonderful. The service and ambiance could not have been better. I cannot wait to visit Kauai again to dine here!

Amazing experience! The food was presented so beautifully and elegantly. Each dish had ingredients from the island with authentic Japanese taste and presentation. The quality of the food was top notch and delicious. The owner of the restaurant Mitch was very knowledgeable and friendly. We would definitely recommend this tasteful experience. We look forward to our next experience at Ainu Kauai the next time we visit Kauai.

This restaurant should have a Michelin star, maybe two? No Hawaiian restaurant has ever had one to my knowledge, and I don't believe the judges come to Hawaii. In California it would most certainly have at least one star. Cedar was our server and mixologist and was great. The Kama'aina (his creation) may be one of the most delicious cocktails I've ever had. The owner who's name I didn't catch was also very sweet and attentive. He has created a beautiful restaurant and a lovely experience. We had a lovely meal. Wonderfully creative flavors and flavor combinations. A number of ingredients I have never had or tasted before. Posted as many photos as yelp would allow, but I am leaving a few dishes off. Looking forward to our next trip to Kauai so that we can return.

Aina I believe would be awarded a Michelin star if Michelin visited Kauai to rate it. I'm a bit of a Kaiseki fan and when I saw Aina I couldn't help but make a reservation. They used many local ingredients to offer a traditional Japanese kaiseki experience, I found it to fall just a bit out of what my experience is for traditional kaiseki but I thoroughly enjoyed each course. My party consisted of myself and two well traveled foodie Australians and they both enjoyed the meal as well. We did take them up on the drink pairing and it was fun, unique and went quite well with the meal. Only tiny bugaboo I had, the contemporary decor left the place feeling quite cold.

I've been dying to try their Big Island location on past trips but never made it happen. Since they don't take reservations, I was fully expecting a long wait arriving around 12:30 PM on a Friday, but we were pleasantly surprised to be seated right away. While most people sat in the covered patio area, we opted to sit right outside with our feet in the sand, because why not?! The beach view is unbelievable, and the breeze kept us perfectly comfortable without feeling too hot. Hubs and I were both craving fish, so I ordered the fish tacos and he got the fish and chips. Everything was so good! Honestly some of the best battered fish I've had in a really long time. Add in a cocktail to kick off the vacation, and it made for the ultimate welcome lunch to Kauaʻi. Between the food and the incredible vibes, this place set the perfect tone for our weekend trip. Will definitely be back!

For dinner, we ordered the Hawaiian pizza and chef's veggies to share. The pizza was topped with kalua pork, pineapple, scallions, and a unique sauce. Pretty good. We wanted to eat some greens so we asked about the chef's veggies. It was roasted broccoli, bell pepper, and squash. Delicious and seasoned well. For drinks, I ordered a green-tini and my mom got a virgin lava lava flow. I actually preferred her drink over mine. The green-tini had a nice kick to it. Can definitely taste the jalapeño. The virgin lava lava flow was sweet and creamy. Perfect way to end the night! The restaurant and bar definitely get crowded, but there's plenty of space inside and outside. You can get a nice view of the beach. The weather is always good, so we sat outside. The bartender was also super kind and checked on us multiple times to see if we needed anything else. It can feel a little touristy, but I still think it's worth a visit.

Things we Loved: 1. The entrees: We had tandoori shrimp and lamb vindaloo. Both were spiced just right and the staff delivered on our request for spice level (me mild, hubs medium). Both the shrimp and the lamb were fresh and tender. 2. The rice: We ordered the lemon rice. It was literally the best rice dish I've ever had anywhere. I can't even explain how exotic and amazing it was. 3. The service: This is a small family run place and you can tell how much care they put into not only the food but the service too. Things we didn't love: 1. The naan bread was crispy vs chewy. It's a personal preference but it still had good flavor. 2. The raita was watery so didn't serve well as a dip for the bread as it just ran off. Both of these things were very minor to us because the things we loved we really loved a lot. In terms of prices, they were a bit steep. But everything was very fresh AND the portions were very generous - enough to have a 2nd dinner from the leftovers the next evening. We loved this place and are already going back with some friends this weekend.

Lemon rice was good. Raita was just water with a hint of curd. All the entrees were super spicy even though we ordered medium. They mentioned their medium means on the spicier side, but this was just too much. I honestly wonder who came up with that spice scale. Just call it what it is. Naan was good. Kulfi was okay. Gulab jamun tasted like the boxed kind, microwaved and handed to us. Service was fine, but overall the place was a disappointment. And it is RIDICULOUSLY EXPENSIVE for this food.

Our server, Andrew, was excellent. He was nice, knew answers to questions we had, offered recommendations and was attentive. Our food was delicious! We had the Beach Boy Salad, Wally's Steak Crown Royal, and the Prime Rib au Jus. Both were very delicious!! I would have liked to give 5 stars, but deducted one because of the hostess up front. When we arrived she DID NOT say hello or anything equivalent. She did NOT smile. She was NOT welcoming. As we approached the desk, my husband said, "Hello, we have a dinner reservation for 5:30. She said, "Your name?". My husband gave her our last name. Then she said, "She'll take you". She barely acknowledged us, NEVER a smile. That is not customer service. Please retrain her on how to represent the restaurant, customer service, and just basic manners.

When we pulled up around 7pm, there was just 1 other party that was there and they were seated outside. There was live music and we asked to be seated right in front of him. Boy, that was a big mistake as the speaker was right there and it was very difficult for me and my wife to carry any kind of conversation. That was mostly my fault and I should have asked to be seated a few tables back. But it was fine as the musician was great the whole night with his soothing voice and relaxing tunes. There were only 2 servers at the time so getting my drink refilled was a little slow. We ordered the fried enoki mushrooms. Not sure where they were going with this dish as enoki mushrooms don't really have any taste to them. Plus it's a little stringy. I thought it was a little oily. Not sure if the oil was hot enough when they fried this, but it was a bit greasy and since it didn't have any taste to it, the tartar sauce pretty much carried the dish. My ribeye, however, was great. It was cooked medium-rare with a lot of mashed potatoes. The peppercorn cream sauce was a nice touch and didn't overshadow the meat. The one thing I would suggest is that the ribeye was on the thin side, so it didn't get that char crispiness that you would be able to get on a thicker steak. Since I asked for it to be medium rare, getting the desired texture would not be possible. I would have liked to be thicker as the bite would be more substantial. I normally associate a thin cut to a cheap or budget steak. Flavor-wise and temp, it was perfect. There was so much mashed potatoes that I ended up leaving half of it on the plate. It's a garlic mash and really tasty. The Osso Buco was tender, fall off the bone. I did, however, find it to be a little too salty though. You also get a lot of Risotto. They do not skimp on portions here. Great find.
