I can tell from the comments that most people here probably aren't from Lanzhou--understandably, since it's a pretty niche city. But that doesn't take away from how authentic and delicious Aipapa is! As someone who was born and raised in Lanzhou and has been in the U.S. for 15 years, I finally got to taste truly authentic Lanzhou food again. Every single dish is just as good as the street food I remember from back home--absolutely amazing! The potato noodles are a must-order signature dish, and the veal is so good I couldn't stop eating. The potato slices taste exactly like the ones sold outside school--this whole experience felt like a dream. It brought back the flavors of my childhood and literally moved me to tears. The live music was such a unique bonus--I never imagined I'd be enjoying street-style snacks while listening to live saxophone music! I truly hope the owner starts selling beer soon because that would be the perfect pairing. I came here two days in a row and now I'm heading back to Northern California, but I'll be recommending this hidden gem to all my friends in SoCal. We'll definitely be back next time! read more

Recently opened place, sign in for their waitlist at the front. Went on a Friday night, high ceiling decked with white lights giving that lounge type vibe with live jazz music. They're self serve on condiments, drinks and even to-go boxes/bowls, and love that they do not accept tips. Price is very affordable and food is good! You order and pay online and they'll serve you your food when ready. Tried their famous Lanzhou Potato Noodles (available in several spicy levels) with options to add or remove an ingredient/spice which I regret opting out on the garlic as it was too strong of a flavor for me on this dish. Their Lanzhou grilled flatbread for starters is an interesting taste. Also ordered Lamb Rice Bowl which is another interesting flavor. The place was half full around 1pm, the jazz/blues ambiance hits the spot for us! So light and refreshing ~ food came fast and hot, spicies hits all the right spot to our taste bud. Cute ambiance! Went here to try because because the lamb had raving reviews but honestly it was quite underwhelming. Got the lamb and chicken sandwich. Both were just dry and not what we expected. Also ordered the cold noodles and it did not look like the picture they posted of it. It's green and in a prepackaged container. Weird. They emply a self service style where you get your waters and utensils yourself. Ordering is done via QR code on the app and was very intuitive. I got e Potato Noodles (5/5) and the Lamb Flat Bread (4/5). I love extra wude flat chew noodles and these potato noodles hit the spot. They were so satisfying and substansial with each bite providing a good mouthful. Paired with the soup base, the flavor was not too salty and complimented the noodles perfectly. The lamb flatbread seemed to be very popular with everyone as a lot of people ordered it. The onyl downside was the bread which is a little bit dry but passable. I have been meaning to try this place for some time. The inside of the restaurant is very fun. There is a live music station set up. They had plenty of self serve water, utensils, sauces etc. I had to try the potato noodle dish. I was hoping it would be soupy but it's more like flavorful noodles in chilli oil. It was not spicy enough for me even after choosing extra spicy. The noodle texture is so delicious. The bread is quite pricey for what you get. Four lives of dry dense dough. Not very good. Even soaking the bread in the chilli oil did not do much to help it. I wish they had more on their menu because I ended going to northern next door to grab some extra sides to amp up the meal a little. I saw that this place has a lamb fish and was curious about it so when visiting the area I gave it a try. Personally if this was lamb was wrapped in a mushu burrito wrap it would probably tastes better with a combination of its spices and the brown sauce you get with Peking Duck. The old restaurant Halal Ma's Kitchen is gone. We were saddened as we got there it changed to AiPaPa kitchen. I can see why they weren't getting much customers before. So, they changed into a brand new menu and concept. The owner is same, we spoke to him. We went on their opening week. The environment was super busy on a Sunday. Younger crowed goes there more. It's not a family style Don't expect good service! They don't bring you spoons, plates, to go boxes, and menu. You basically order online or kiosk and they only bring you the food. They don't have a big serving spoon. Only regular spoon that you eat with. You have to serve yourself. Their cart has all sorts of disposable very small paper boat plates, plastic soup bowl size, and plastic utensils. The items are not for proper size to eat your food in. The display didn't look professional. People will be wasting many plastics. The bun picture on the menu was deceiving. It showed a big bigger flat bread but instead it was 4 small thick square breads. It doesn't match the picture at all and it tasted saltless. Didn't know what the bread was for but I guessed it was for the soup. The night market chow mein spicy noodles was good. The lamb stew soup was good. You can tell the soup broth was made separately not broth from the meat. Not sure if the restaurant will last long. read more

The food here is SO flavorful, and the flavor profiles are not something you can find anywhere. I personally do not eat lamb so I ordered other options but my boyfriend throughly enjoyed the lamb here. I think we would both come back! The performers are all skilled and each time we feel the need to tip the performer. again we don't have to but we feel like this kind of quality performance shouldn't be enjoyed for free. Tldr; We definitely enjoyed this meal as a whole experience! Be adventurous and try their restaurant. From the moment we walked in it was welcoming. LIVE music definitely plus! Food: We ordered the potato noodles (5/5), yogurt (4/5), chow mein (3/5), and flatbread (2/5). Our typical cuisine: HK, SE Asian, and tacos. So the flavor profile of AiPaPa wasn't very familiar to us. Think it was the Sichuan peppercorn or fennel / cumin that was throwing us off. That's why the flatbread had a lower rating. Had a slightly bitter oily crust we didn't enjoy. Remove the outer crust and you can safely feed the inside to a kid. Very soft. Texture wise we enjoyed the potato noodles the most. We suspect the noodles were made in house. They were bouncy, chewy but not al dente, held onto the sauce very well. We had to use more napkins than usual. I have no idea how to describe the flavor other than mildly spicy and Lanzhou? The ground meat was lightly seasoned and the roasted peanuts just married it all together. Yogurt reminded us of another similar style. Slightly acidic or fermented. Icy. Enjoyed by the adults. Kid...at least took a bite before pushing it away. Chow mein....was average. Not spicy so the kid ate it. We thought it was very plain? Something that could be made at home better. Service: Our waiter patiently explained the 2 page menu to us. Gave us suggestions for the kid. When you step in, there's a large family table that sits 8-10. Behind this table is where they have the music area setup.
